paperdoll Report post Posted May 10, 2004 As light and innocent as your first time should have been. The fresh scent of lotus hidden behind lightly scented flowers, amber, and citrus. Initial Sniff: The floral and citrus notes are prominent. I'm not sure what lotus smells like, so I won't say definitively that is what I'm smelling, but it is floral. If this were a color, it would be a light, bright orange/melon color.Wearing: This is equal parts fruity and floral on me. It almost has a berry scent to it. Very light and summery, it fades quickly.Final Impressions: While this is nice, it's not really my style. It's just... I don't know. Pale, indistinct, wallflower-esque, I guess. Pretty enough, but not special.
Vaniclion Report post Posted May 14, 2004 This is what I imagine certain types of flower fairies smell like. Girl fairies, at that. It's a very powerful, light floral. The lotus was the primary note, with various florals backing it up. There's a slight darkness to the scent, but I get a sunlight yellow color in my head with this one. VERY feminine. Ina Garten Davita Report post Posted May 26, 2004 First Impression: Lotus, lots of lotus. It's the same rich lotus note I really love in Blood Lotus. Second Impression: On my skin the fruitiness comes out. It starts our very jammy and thick and almost rotting. Final Analysis: I didn't smell any amber in this. Once the lotus fades, I'm only left with rotting fruit smell. Not overly keen on this one.
shriekingviolet Report post Posted June 9, 2004 Initial Impression: Very sweet and juicy. I smell apples and nectar. After Wearing It: Weird. I smelled fruit in the vial, but there is no evidence of such on my skin. On me Forbidden Fruit is primarily Amber and Lotus (and mayyyybe a hint of citrus), which blends together in the strangest way to smell something like a pale version of gingerbread or those pink frosted animal cookies that everyone loved as a kid. Very sweet, very warm and very foody. It smells delicious, but I find the scent so disconcerting on me. I usually don't have a problem wearing foody blends, but this one made me feel very, very weird. It was too little kiddish. Like how a pretty six year old girl might smell. Which is why I might be feeling creepy. If I were a man and someone caught a whiff of this on me, someone would assume I were some sort of sex offender. But instead, since I'm a woman, the association would probably lean more toward preschool teacher or young mother. Thank gods for small blessings, eh? This scent had good lasting power/throw btw. I should just mention in case anyone needs more things to add to the "pro" side of the list as its "kiddy porn" aura can really weigh down the cons. Final Thoughts: I both love and hate this oil. I'm really, really digging the way it smells, but then it keeps creeping me out that it's me that smells that way. What a bummer since I love both amber and lotus and this seemed like sure bet. Maybe it'll work out in the burner and keep its good smell but not give me such slimy vibes. Here's hoping!
isyche Report post Posted July 10, 2004 (edited) When I first put it on, Forbidden Fruit is a fruity powdery candy scent that smells almost exactly like Smarties (the US kind). I'm guessing that's the combination of the lotus and citrus? After it dries down, it becomes almost completely amber (I think). Neither phase really does much for me, though - another one to swap. Electra Report post Posted August 24, 2004 It's official - BPAL's amber does absolutely magical things on my skin. In the imp and while wet, this oil smells of Juicy Fruit gum. Not unpleasant, but nothing I'd choose to wear as a perfume. The drydown, however, is gorgeous. Beautiful powdery amber.
Miggins Report post Posted September 15, 2004 Forbidden Fruit smelt very golden to me. Sit in front of a window on a sunny day and close your eyes; the colour that you “see” is exactly the colour that I “saw” when I put Forbidden Fruit on. However, it felt a bit “empty” (for want of a better word) on me - like I needed something else to balance it out. Strangely, I think this would smell nicer on a man, although I swapped it before I had the chance to try!
Summerpixy Report post Posted September 23, 2004 Forbidden fruit is light and sweet as a childhood tea-party. Mostly I smell sugary amber as it dries down. All innocence, there is no wicked twist here, just simple sugary sweetness. I'm on the fence about swapping... we'll see.
pkwench Report post Posted September 28, 2004 Forbidden Fruit Vial: Bubblegum, bubblegum in a shoe. I smell some lotus, how 'bout you? Wet: I still smell overwhelming bubblegummy lotus. After 10: It's still overwhelmingly lotus, but it's a bit darker now, almost as if it's ripening After 20: I still have mostly lotus. A bit of a ripe lotus, but that's it. I don't smell amber or citrus. But, I think that's my body chemistry for you. It gets a wee hit of lotus and amps it to the Nth degree. Stupid chemistry! Alas, forbidden fruit, you are not for me. ChupaChup Report post Posted October 13, 2004 I have a rating system on my nerdy spreadsheet for BPAL oils, it goes from 0 (I'll never open that imp again) to 5 (orgasmic). Forbidden Fruit is one of only two oils that has scored a 0. I have never cared for aquatic scents but until BPAL, I don't think I ever tried a perfume with lotus in it. And lotus looks like it would be such a lovely smelling flower. Looking back over my spreadsheet, I realize now, thanks to Forbidden Fruit, that lotus was the note that bothered me in other oils, when I often blamed it on some other element. So I'm glad I got to try this one, thanks lab for throwing it in as a freebie. Oh, what does it smell like on me? Poop
Lorencita Report post Posted October 13, 2004 I didnt like this at all. It went very rancid on me, the same way it smells in the bottle... like rancid fruits. All I can say is that this smells like fruits that have been in a cellar for a long, long time.
Northernminx Report post Posted October 15, 2004 Bubblegum fruitness for a while that fades into a soft delicate floral. Very feminine, very youthful, very innocent. This is sunlight and joy and sweetness, but almost too much so. I'd love this on my nieces, but on me it's almost just too youthful and makes me feel less silly and more naive. Cute but off to swaps. Camilla T Report post Posted October 25, 2004 How strange!!! On me this is a dark scent. Not innocent and light at all. It smells like something evil and I really didn't like it at first. It gets quite different on drydown. More fruity and sweet, but in a "fruit that's almost too ripe" sort of way. I am very undecided on this. I think I have to wear it again on another day. I am in a strange mood today, because I haven't got enough sleep. Maybe that's got something to do with it. But it fits it's name quite well. Forbidden Fruit - like the apple that Eve took a bite of because of the snake. This smell captures that moment. But I'm not sure if I like it or not
Spanglemaker Report post Posted October 25, 2004 Forbidden Fruit: Wet: Sweet Tarts! On: This smells like a ripe plum without the tartness. Maybe that's the amber and lotus. I don't get any citrus. Very light. Reminds me a lot of Mabon which is strange because they don't have any of the same notes.
fragrantgrasse Report post Posted October 27, 2004 I really like the gentle, wet sweetness of Forbidden Fruit. For me the top note is lotus - then it quickly slides into a panapoly of tropical friut. Not Juicy Fruit, but more like Tahiti's mango-papaya - a sheer veil or water color fragrance, by that I mean it is so soft and sweet as it says in the description.... impressionistic & innocent. Lolita this is not.... more like Anne of Green Gables. I really like this but not sure if I would order a larger size...
pekeana Report post Posted November 4, 2004 In the vial, Forbidden Fruit is all floral, with just a hint of citrus. On me, it reeks of musk and floral. I caught a hint of lotus and a hint of grapefruit for a minute, then it was just musk and floral -- almost identical to the debacle of Ave Maria Gratia Plena a while back. I just... I can't stand this one. I'm sorry, Beth, I just can't -- it's just so incredibly, horrifically bad on me.
Ishtar Report post Posted November 8, 2004 When, oh when will I learn that no matter how tempting the other notes might sound (I am looking at you, amber and citrus), any blend with the tiniest drop of lotus just does not work on me? I don't know what I did to lotus, in this lifetime or a previous one, but I visibly pissed it off something fierce because it downright hates me. So, well, Forbidden Fruit looked like something I had to try, but alas, the lotus curse striked again. Gone were the florals, the amber and the citrus, all I was left with was bubble gum. A rather bad bubble gum at that, outrageously pink and artificial smelling Swap!
Scylla Report post Posted November 17, 2004 Gah! I should have learned my lesson by now---Amber = on my skin Note to self: Don't even TRY scents with Amber ANYMORE! None of them work on you! I don't want to offend Beth by a bad review because this smells SOOOO fruitilicious and lovely in the vial, and I know it's one of Ted's personal favorites. But when Forbidden Fruit hit my skin, it went REEEAAAALY, Horrificly bad! Egads! Rotten fruit is an understatement. Day-um.
TheDarkMother Report post Posted November 18, 2004 In the Bottle: Forbidden Fruit smells like a light almond scent, or maybe amber and musk. Its not overwhelmingly so, not as sweet, but the base comes through quite a bit. On Me: Ah, the smell of cut apples perhaps, along with gardenias, or some other thick, white flower, although I would bet on gardenias or magnolias. This is a sweet scent, innocent yet flirty, but begins to fade rather quickly. This is another gorgeous scent that I shall slather and covet until I can get a bigger bottle! Jasminepearls Report post Posted November 20, 2004 After the first swipe I could tell my skin was going to drink this scent up...it is hard to describe exactly how, I just know my body *loved* it. Ahhh, there is a Jasmine and sweet orange garden wafting up to my nose...no wait, that is the lotus I think, but it smells so incredibly similar to jasmine...with candied fruits dusted on... An hour later, my wrists had sucked up all of the fruit scent and there was just sweet floral, reminds me of childhood and picking the tiny white flowers that grew, vinelike up the side of the backyard fence... This is a scent of innocence, almost too innocent. It gives me visions of a doe-eyed virgin in a white flowing dress who doesn't know any better. It stayed sweet to the very end on me, morphing in it's last goodbye into a honeysuckle type scent that smells very one dimensional but strong. Great for summertime, but watch out for bee's! I don't think i will be getting a bottle, but certainly will be using my imp up on more sunny days.
helarctos Report post Posted November 26, 2004 When I first put this on, it smelled like fruit snacks ! Then I smelled something like jasmine or honeysuckle, which developed more clearly into lotus. The fruit snacks phase didn't last very long. After a few hours, what remains is still delicious, and predominantly lotus.
malanna Report post Posted December 8, 2004 My first impression is that of a Juicy Fruit piece of gum (cherry?) with a dash of lotus. As Forbidden Fruit dries, the lotus comes out to play. This does not bode well for me, as I don’t like lotus. After an hour, this still smells very lotus-like and is very strong in that the scent isn’t strong, but the one note is very pointed. After three hours, this smells more like a lotus, yet less like one, because it’s less watery. It reminds me of Pandora. It’s much less stronger (and less headache-inducing) and is less floral, with a bit of a medicinal touch.
Donnababe Report post Posted December 10, 2004 Forbidden Fruit I was really eager to try this as I love amber. Sadly this did not smell anything like I'd hoped. All I get after a brief waft of fruit is a horrific mustiness and no sign of warm golden amber. Not good.
any_old_actress Report post Posted December 23, 2004 FIRST SNIFF - juicy, fruity, girly WEARING IT - it's very similar to glitter on me. very juicy and sweet & childlike, playful and innocent. i get mostly a fruity scent but there is a faint floral bit to it - definitely lotus. VERDICT - not something i could wear all the time, it's just not my type of scent.
diabolique Report post Posted December 23, 2004 lotus pisses me off. this scent might be nice if it weren't for that one damn component. it's.. um, watery, over-ripe fruit. someone tossed a few pineapples and pears into a flower-infested, dirty lake. man, this one gives me bad vibes. it doesn't smell bad. it's just.. the lotus makes things really weird.
