BPAL Madness!

Recommended Posts

This was a gift with the purchase of the full Snake Pit set. No scent description is available.

I want about a gallon of this. It is almost mean to be teased with a wee little imp but I am so grateful to have it. Sexiest damn thing I have smelled - maybe my favorite ever. It is a sugary, creme brule version of Snake Oil. So fucking mean. Beth, if you are readinig this, I will come to your house and be your cabana girl for life if you would only just make this available in 5ml form. I am begging here.

So. Freaking. Good. Did I mention the sugar skull/snake oil love child aspect? :thud:

At first sniff, in the vial, this is rich and sugary, flavored a little with cocoa or chocolate. It's almost buttery in its richness, reminding me of the sweetness of Creepy or Sugar Skull '05 (if you haven't smelled those, well, just think rich melted or crystallized sugar), but without fruits.

After less than a half hour, most of the richness and sweetness has faded, and now what I smell is a very familiar incense. I've smelled this before but I can't put my finger on exactly which flavor of incense it reminds me of...but it's very reminiscent. I want to say sandalwood but I don't think that's it. But sandalwood might be a part of it. Possibly a touch of some kind of berry? I'm not sure.

Through all this, the Snake Oil is there, in the background. You can smell it in the vial, and through the different morphing stages, mostly if you sniff up close, but not so much in the throw. I have a feeling that with some aging, or maybe even after a few days (I just opened the package a few minutes ago), the Snake Oil might come out more strongly.

So, do I like it? Yes, definitely! Very nice scent with chocolate and incense, and subtle spices of Snake Oil. Great stuff!

edit: Oops, sorry Tramp! I was so excited about trying this one, I forgot you had already reviewed it... :P :D

Whoa. This is super rich and foody. Chocolate, caramel, buttercream, sugary explosion. There is something grounding it all to keep it in check, sort of an incensy undertone to it. It is like a delicious well-crafted confection, almost a bit hazelnutty, too. What strikes me is how well it's balanced. Usually I don't like foody scents but whatever the base is makes a lovely pairing. This is worth trying especially if you are a foody, nutty rich scents lover.

I would also like to compare this to Creepy or Beaver Moon.....both scents are very foody to me and Anaconda definitely belongs in the foody category along with them...I smell butterscotch.....with the snake oil wwaaayyyy in the back jumping up and down waving for it to be seen. Overall a beautifully blended foody scent.....I will cherish my imp.

(Thanks for lettin’ me try this, C :P)

I thought that I would love Anaconda, but given its limited availability, I’m really glad that I don’t. This is a really heavy scent on me and the foodie part reminds me of something like Gluttony. Butterscotch, caramel, buttercream, chocolate something – but it’s so heavy and cloying that it makes me think of foodie candles rather than foodie perfume.

I do get the comparison to Sugar Skull in the drydown, but that was also too rot-your-teeth-out sweet for me. In the end it smells like buttery brown sugar and hints of Snake Oil-esque spice & incense. I could tolerate this in an oil burner, but not so much on my skin.

i think incensey sugar skull! good stuff, very pretty. very long lasting too...a drop or two spilled on my fingers around 230pm and i could still smell it (without even holding my hands up to my nose) 8 hours later!

Anaconda - This is a very nice scent, but not for me. I would definitely recommend it, however, to the sweet/foody lovers out there. I don't smell much of the Snake Oil in it. Rather, it reminds me a lot of some of the heavier foody scents like Gluttony and Cockaigne. It's very buttery/butterscotchy, chocolatey, caramely, and ultra-rich. I tend to not like any of the forementioned scents in my perfumes, so it wasn't a surprise that it didn't work on me, but I wish I liked foody scents more because it seems like a spectacular foody scent. Then again, since I can't buy a 55 gallon drum of it, I'm glad I didn't fall head-over-heels for it. It also faded on me rather quickly (as most foody/gourmand scents do).

Yup, there's a lot of consensus on what Anaconda smells like! To me, it has many of the same foody notes as Gluttony, but it's quite a bit smoother and drier, rather than heavy and sticky. It's like smelling Gluttony incense and drinking a Gluttony cocktail, while standing on a nice cozy Snake Oil rug.

Oh, this is *heady*!

In the vial and on I get such a beautiful bloom of caramel pipe tobacco. :P Rich, not overly sweet but........oh, so fragrant!!

On the drydown this one just doesn't change or morph which is a plus for me! I was so hoping it wouldn't change as some of the other Snake Pits had done as I SO LOVED the opening on this one. :D

In my personal opinion, this guy is the *perfect mate* for Miss Formula 54. I sense the pipe tobacco and cognac in this blend but without the smeared lipstick or black rose that Formula 54 touts. I will call Anaconda.....MR. F-54! :D

What a naughty little tease Anaconda has turned out to be.

I'm thinking Snake Oil custard with a burnt brown sugar crust on top. Definitely rich, though it seems the creaminess is coming from the Snake Oil rather than the additional components. I say brown sugar because it doesn't have the butteriness of caramel. I don't think it's overly foody as I'm getting whiffs of a very sensual tobacco on the drydown.

Indeed, a naughty little tease. Almost cruel, as an elixir such as this needs a much larger vessel.

The snake definitely ate a sugar cookie or two before it was harvested for its oil.

At first it smelled like caramelized sugar Snake Oil, and then it seemed to disappear into my skin. But...it's like it became a part of it. So my left wrist smells so, so lovely and sweet, but in such a way that it smells like me, if that makes any sense. Mmmm. Sigh.

Anaconda reminded me a lot of Sugar Skull. I put it on and went, "Meh, it's just like Sugar Skull." It had that same pancake-smothered-in-maple-syrup essence so I just let it sit. It lasted for a long time and stayed quite potent. I was sniff-analyzing about an hour or so later and still thought it smelled like Sugar Skull, but nicer. I can't even describe how it's different because I sold my Sugar Skull, but I think it was just a hair more tame, making it more lickable and a little less....oversacrinated.

I made up a new word! Yea me.

Maybe it was a little more pancake and a little less syrup that made it better.

The Snake Oil meets Sugar Skull comparisons are dead on in my book for this one - Anaconda is an oiled snake encrusted in rich maple sugar.

I'm ambivalent toward foody scents, so this could have gone either way for me. I think, though, that it edged just enough over the 'too foody' line for me to not regret that it's only available as a gimme.

To my nose, it smells like buttercream layered over cloves. It's not overly sweet or cloying, but it's heavy; every time I look at where I dabbed it, I expect to be able to see cream on my skin. It settles down a bit as time goes on, and, though I lose the overwhelming impression of buttercream, the impression of cloves (inaccurate though it may be) amps up, bringing the Snake Oil base with it. From there, the Snake Oil stays at the fore, with burnt sugar replacing the other scents as an accent. I like the mid-stage where the Snake Oil is just starting to emerge, less so the beginning and end stages, so I'm quite content with only having the imp.

(As a gimme, I'm grateful that it didn't end up like Imp of the Perverse. Compared to my wrist smelling of stale urine, I can totally deal with slightly-too-foody.)

I'm a little suprised by Anaconda. I had read the reviews and was expecting an uber-sweet, sugary scent. But on me, Anaconda is not at all sweetl. My first impression is nutty - hazelnut is what I'm thinking. Maybe coconut. Is coconut a nut? I don't know, but hazelnut and coconut always strike me as sort of similar. And then, after a little while, I get the tobacco vibe that andrabell mentioned. A ton of tobacco, actually. Which makes it not very sweet at all, almost bitter. It's definitely got bite. :P

I don't pick up any Snake Oil at all, at the moment

I got my bit of anaconda and thought I'd be wild about it because half the time, I'm a foody -- the other half, I'm so ecclectic I wouldn't know what to call me. Anyway, at first sniff, it was definitely foody, but it was really weird on me. There was an odd, suffocating note that came forward and made it smell kind of like burned plastic. I've swapped my bit for some more Gingerbread Poppet, which I <3.

Blood onmy hands sent me a few drops of this rarity and I slathered it on. I was thinking about buying the Snake Pit to get an imp of this originally, but now I’m glad that I didn’t. Anaconda is way too sweet, and smells like burnt sugar and plastic on my skin. Which honestly doesn't surprise me, I got the same burnt note from Sugar Skull and Hope and Faith as well... BPAL's sugar notes hate me. I don’t smell anything like Snake Oil in here at all either.

I was able to experience Anaconda thanks to the wonderfully kind generosity of Forspecial Plate. :P

Sniffing from the imp is like flan laced with Snake Oil. Sticky sweet caramel and buttery rich custard with a slinky-spicy undercurrent of yum. It's here than I smell the biggest connection with Snake Oil. Once the oil meets my skin, it turns to a sweet nutty scent, really quite nice despite the fact I'm not all that crazy about many of the scents in this range that have drawn comparison.

The subtle yet sultry tobacco note wafts up once the oil has settled for awhile into the skin. This was my favorite stage - creamy sweet smooth smoky fantastic and to my extended pleasure, it really lasted for a nice long while. It's now eight hours later and with my nose plastered to the spot on the back of my hand where I applied the oil, I can smell scant traces of sugared tobacco leaf but everything has pretty much slithered off.

The Snake Pit as a whole is a mesmerizing collaboration of olfactory artistry and the big snake in the little vial most certainly leaves a memorable impression.

Snake Oil, Eat Me, sugar and tobacco all together and pumping out the really good scent here. Very foody but very sticky resin done perfectly well. I love this one and it is a shame that it is just a tease. I would love to buy it as a Premium Blend if that were Possible. Since it's not possible, I will just dream of it while I put on Eat Me and enjoy that one.

The icon is about a TV program from the 1750's called Wild Kingdom. The host, Marlin Perkins (lower right) came across an anaconda in south America. His "friend" Jim Fowler (upper left) got hold of it to show it off to the camera, and the snake started to wrap itself around Jim Fowler and was going to have him for lunch. All the time, Perkins was talking away about the habits of the anaconda, "bla bla bla...isn't that right, Jim?". Poor old Fowler; finally part of the camera crew had to drop their equipment and come to the aid of the half eaten Naturalist. Much fun was made of that episode.

Anaconda can wrap me up in its death squeeze of caramel any time! Yum. Buttery, sugary, delicious caramel with a hint of Snake Oil. It makes me want dessert.

Usually I can't wear caramel, but damn. This is a rich, warm, sweet, wonderful scent. Gluttony was too much for me; Sugar Skull 05 was very much like syrupy pancakes. But Anaconda had a warm slithery charm. I would absolutely buy a bottle of this if I could.

My friends and I tried Anaconda at a party. (Some people do drugs at parties; my friends and I just sniff things. And drink. But at least we don't drink the BPAL. :P ) On one chemistry, it really did the awful plastic smell that some reviewers described. But on the proud owner of the Snake Pit, Anaconda was a sweet and sexy miracle. On him, it was . . . Fabulous. Divine. Drool-inducing. All the women at the party, suddenly finding themselves strangely hungry, started passing around his arm. I think we scared the poor guy . . . At least we left his arm attached. :D

Anaconda may not guarantee everyone warm and sweet delights; this is one picky, picky Snake! But when the chemistry is a perfect match, and that sugary magic happens . . . It could just be dangerous going out without an escort.

Oh, dear sweet Anaconda, why must you only come in imp form?? :P

This is one seriosuly yummy scent. I can best pick out Snake Oil, tobacco and burnt/brown sugar (a la Sugar Skull). I am normally not a huge tobacco fan but this is absolutely divine. It's like rolling around in an amazing rich desert. :D It stays pretty true throughout the drydown- true to perfection!

If this ever makes it to a bottle I would have to buy 8908098 of them. For now I will just inhale my imp, since I am a slatherer and would probably use it up in two applications.

This is major caramel; it's heavy, like some of Beth's most recent caramel adventures... Arrival at the Sabbath & Homage to the Devil for instance. It isn't as sweet as that one though. It's more dark & deep in nature. Just a dab is plennnnty so I think the imp, barring accidents, will last plenty long for me. Plus, though I like having an imp of it to fiddle with, isn't one that I'm dying for more of. Which is just as well- if I really adored it, I might cry. Anyway, good stuff but I can live without a bottle.

3.5 out of 5.
