BPAL Madness!

Recommended Posts

White lace, blackcurrant, and tea roses.

“She went on to make her petition, and it was in the tone of a person from whom such a request amounted to conferring, rather than seeking a favor. This was only in manner, and, as it seemed, quite unconsciously. Than the terms in which it was expressed, nothing could be more deprecatory. It was simply that I would consent to take charge of her daughter during her absence.

“This was, all things considered, a strange, not to say, an audacious request. She in some sort disarmed me, by stating and admitting everything that could be urged against it, and throwing herself entirely upon my chivalry. At the same moment, by a fatality that seems to have predetermined all that happened, my poor child came to my side, and, in an undertone, besought me to invite her new friend, Millarca, to pay us a visit. She had just been sounding her, and thought, if her mamma would allow her, she would like it extremely.

“At another time I should have told her to wait a little, until, at least, we knew who they were. But I had not a moment to think in. The two ladies assailed me together, and I must confess the refined and beautiful face of the young lady, about which there was something extremely engaging, as well as the elegance and fire of high birth, determined me; and, quite overpowered, I submitted, and undertook, too easily, the care of the young lady, whom her mother called Millarca.”

First few minutes of applying: The tea roses are quite strong at the outset here, no blackcurrant to be had yet. The lace lends a nice creaminess. It's a very clean, sharp, almost soapy scent.

After 15 minutes: A touch softer, but not much movement from the first impression.

I was hoping for a bit more jamminess here, but I layered her with Eat Me and really liked them together!

On my skin, Wet:  Very similar to Antique Lace in this phase, maybe with a hint of the roses

On my skin, Dry: Creamy & soft with a nice overlay of rose

Overall: I didn't detect any of the blackcurrants - like many other BPALs, maybe that facet will appear with age

I don't know why, but I got a coolness to this at first with the vanilla and rose that made me think that this was a cousin to Pink Snowballs, even though there's already My Soul Acquiesced in It in this update that has the chilly Snow White vanilla with white rose, and I wondered if my nose was drunk.  But then it quickly morphed into Antique Lace 2017's floofy vanilla (which is similar to NAVA's Moonstone to me) with tea rose and stays Antique Lace 2017 + tea rose for the rest of the day. I was not able to detect the blackcurrant.

Honestly, this is more lace-y than Tea Roses and Lace, so if you're a Lace fan who was hoping for more vanilla or more rose from that one, you should try this.

Although I enjoy this, I don't know if I need another Antique Lace-y vanilla in my collection, and I already have so many rose scents. I'll retest this before it goes away just to be sure. But trying Millarca and Mircalla side by side was really fun, and I do think I prefer this one to Mircalla, Countess Karnstein.

In the bottle: It's like sweet vanilla tea roses, but something is too sharp and "fake" floating on top - it's not exactly the cleaning fluid note I got from Mircalla, but is similar.

Wet:  I definitely get the comparison to antique lace, but it's softer, less vanilla, and the tea roses are blooming beautifully on top.  The sharp "cleaner" odd note is not showing up at this point.

Dry: OK, now I'm getting a very soft blackcurrant note and it's not at all too sharp/sour or otherwise like cleaning fluid. It's just this light dark fruity note. Tea roses are still the most dominant thing on me, but there's a slightly more rich "vanilla lace" undertone that's grown to support it, too.  It's quite lovely.

Soft vanilla rose, no blackcurrant according to my nose. Slightly creamy without being thick or cloying, well-blended and soft.

This was another chilly rose scent on me. It reminds me a lot of Pink Snowballs, Snow White, and the Bear Prince. This one may not be as dedicatedly chilly as some of the others, and the combo of the white lace and tea rose brings a higher amount of sugar and sweetness to the scent than some of the others mentioned. I do not get any of the blackcurrant. And the white lace does dominate the scent. So as more of a rose lover, this wasn't really for me. Too close, while also not being as rose-y as other scents already in my collection. Though if the Lab's lace note is your thing, maybe this is for you.

Not having tried any other lace scents to this point, I am really enjoying comparing this to My Soul Acquiesced in It, the other vanilla rose in the Carmilla collection!

Comparatively, Millarca is creamier, sweeter, thrones; less cold and translucent. I get a hint of tart blackberry and definitely a fair amount of soft rose, but the creamy vanilla is most definitely the dominant note on me. It's a soft, sweetly feminine scent, but there's something almost ominously off about it, as as if all the sweetness might be concealing something - I could imagine wearing this to a tea with someone to whom one wanted to be quietly barbed.

I prefer My Soul Acquiesced in It (as is probably obvious - I just can't stop talking about it everywhere in this forum!) as a more adult, complex scent, but Millarca is lovely and I am really glad to have it too, and especially to be able to compare it with Mircalla.

I thought I was fully safe to pass on this one, having entirely too many rose and rose-vanilla scents, but then reviews started comparing it to Pink Snowballs, which I've seen compared to Love Lay Upon Her Eyes which is one of my all time favorite BPAL roses. So here I am. And it's really pretty y'all. I can definitely seen the comparison, although I haven't deathmatched em yet. Millarca is airy, delicate, elegant, and soft. The rose is equal parts jammy and fresh, maybe from the blackcurrant since I can't pick that out on its own. Ughhhhhh I love it. Adding it to my stupid little rose perfume shelf. Right next to Love Lay ♡

Eta: I decided to go ahead and deathmatch em! It's quite similar tbh, but Love Lay is still my true love. Comparing them, the white amber in LL reads rounder with a sort of soft glow of warmth, while the rose is decidedly pink. There's a creamy-milky semi-opaqueness to it, like a scent moonstone. In comparison, Millarca reads more dry from the lace, the rose reads as a true tea rose,  and the blackcurrant is more evident, lending a tart, dark edge. Both are gorgeous in their own right and I'm pleased as punch to have a sister for LL, but I'll continue to hold out hope for another white amber rose from the BPAL gods. 🙏

a aged, whisper-thin white gossamer floats ephemerally around the dark haired woman. her pale dress, billowing from her gaunt frame and creating the impression of ghostliness, is stained near the collar- splatters of reddish-purple. …..fruit juice? something… else?

she extends her pale hand, the dead petals of a pink rose resting so delicately in her palm, and they begin to… almost glow. transform… blossom, into a bouquet of the most enchantingly sweet blooms you’ve ever had the pleasure of smelling.

WOW, I’m impressed. The throw of this is VAST and the length of wear i got was shocking considering A ) straight out of the mail, B ) the delicate, feminine, airy quality of this perfume should make it one that disappates quickly- not so, my friends.

This one is really special. So is Mircalla.

What a beautiful, warm and resinous rose. Unfortunately, I'm not getting any blackcurrant. I think I prefer Knave of Snowflakes for the blackcurrant + rose combo. And maybe the white lace is causing the rose in this one to smell somewhat muted, compared to my other rose scents. I'm not able to pick out the white lace separately as it's own note. I'll be enjoying my sample, but won't be seeking more.
