    All Souls

ALL SOULS A day of remembrance and intercession. Without the prayers and sacrifices of their families and loved ones, the faithful departed may not be cleansed of their venal sins, and thereby cannot attain beatific vision. On November 2nd, prayers are sung and offerings are made to aid lost souls in transcending purgatory. An incense blend that invokes the higher qualities of mercy and compassion, mingled with the soft, sugared currant scent of offertory soul cakes. When I first put this on, I could mainly smell soft incense. I thought that it was my imagination until I re-read the description. I can smell buttery cake notes in the background, but mostly I smell soft incense and what I think is the currant note, rather sharp coming out from behind the incense. My skin will tend to amp the sweet, but maybe others will smell more of the foody notes. I think that this is a lovely combination of foody and incensy, which for me is the best of both worlds
  2. A smattering of red rose petals scattered atop a pile of yellowing, ancient bones. Oh, no reviews for this one yet? Well, then I'll go first! I'll admit the concept drew my attention straight away; it sounded suitably morbid and evocative for my tastes, so I gave it a try. This is straight up lush red roses, with an undercurrent of something a bit ominous, but not very distinct. Mostly it's just fresh rose, almost honeyed. But I can definitely see how the "old bones" come into the picture…although it's more in tone than in actual distinguishable notes, I think. It's rather pretty and not as dry as the name would suggest. If you enjoy rose, you will like this! I blind-bought a bottle, and I'm actually glad I did.

    Magnificent Autumn

By what a subtle alchemy the green leaves are transmuted into gold, as if molten by the fiery blaze of the hot sun! A magic covering spreads over the whole forest, and brightens into more gorgeous hues. The tree-tops seem bathed with the gold and crimson of an Italian sunset. Here and there a shade of green, here and there a tinge of purple, and a stain of scarlet so deep and rich, that the most cunning artifice of man is pale beside it. A thousand delicate shades melt into each other. They blend fantastically into one deep mass. They spread over the forest like a tapestry woven with a thousand hues. Magnificent Autumn! He comes not like a pilgrim, clad in russet weeds. He comes not like a hermit, clad in gray. But he comes like a warrior, with the stain of blood upon his brazen mail. His crimson scarf is rent. His scarlet banner drips with gore. His step is like a flail upon the threshing floor. The scene changes. It is the Indian summer. The rising sun blazes through the misty air like a conflagration. A yellowish, smoky haze fills the atmosphere; and A filmy mist, Lies like a silver lining on the sky. The wind is soft and low. It wafts to us the odor of forest leaves, that hang wilted on the dripping branches, or drop into the stream. Their gorgeous tints are gone, as if the autumnal rains had washed them out. Orange, yellow, and scarlet, all are changed to one melancholy russet hue. The birds, too, have taken wing, and have left their roofless dwellings. Not the whistle of a robin, not the twitter of an eavesdropping swallow, not the carol of one sweet, familiar voice! All gone. Only the dismal cawing of a crow, as he sits and curses, that the harvest is over, – or the chit-chat of an idle squirrel, – the noisy denizen of a hollow tree, – the mendicant friar of a large parish, – the absolute monarch of a dozen acorns! Another change. The wind sweeps through the forest with a sound like the blast of a trumpet. The dry leaves whirl in eddies through the air. A fret-work of hoar-frost covers the plain. The stagnant water in the pools and ditches is frozen into fantastic figures. Nature ceases from her labors, and prepares for the great change. In the low-hanging clouds, the sharp air, like a busy shuttle, weaves her shroud of snow. There is a melancholy and continual roar in the tops of the tall pines, like the roar of a cataract. It is the funeral anthem of the dying year. A scent that wanders through the Ages of Autumn, from the last green leaf to the first breath of winter. This is truly magnificent. When it's wet, I smell it in layers and it truly does cycle (quickly) through different stages of Autumn. My nose catches (in order) green stems, dead leaves, tree sap, something sour and slightly sweet that reminds me of black currant or pomegranate. Once dry, it melds into a gorgeous leafy (dead and alive) scent with hints of the sweet/sour from the earlier stage. It is an up close and personal scent with little throw. I love this.

    Autumn - Overlooked My Knitting

Autumn — overlooked my Knitting Dyes — said He — have I Could disparage a Flamingo Show Me them — said I Cochineal — I chose — for deeming It resemble Thee And the little Border — Dusker For resembling Me For my knitter posse! A warm scent, as delicate as lace and as soft as cashmere, and as cozy as wool, punctuated with red currant for the blazing red of cochineal and surrounded a border of soft grey ambergris and a swirl of autumn leaves. Interesting as hell, and beautiful when it dries down. When I first applied this, I mostly got the leaves. Like a pile of damp leaves, which isn't bad because I totally associate that smell with fall. But then as it dries, the fuzzy grey ambergris comes out to play and suddenly the scent becomes slightly resiny, soft, and cozy. Really gorgeous, and a surprise morpher.

    Feeding The Dead

A barrel of beer, a pyramid of cakes, and three sticks of incense. Wet: Sweet, almost peanutty. A tinge of sourness cutting through the cakes. Not smelling the incense much. Dry: Incense, cake and beer, it's all there but nothing is overpowering the other two. Fantastically blended and not overly foody. Sweet, musky, with a hint of something....extra. I will be getting backup bottles of this! Yum! Lasting Power: Light/Medium. Throw: Light

    On Halloween Atmosphere Spray

Some folk in courts for pleasure sue, An’ some ransack the theatre: The airy nymph is won by few; She’s of so coy a nature. She shuns the great bedaub’d with lace, Intent on rural jokin An’ spite o’ breeding, deigns to grace A merry Airshire rockin, Sometimes at night. At Halloween, when fairy sprites Perform their mystic gambols, When ilka witch her neebour greets, On their nocturnal rambles; When elves at midnight-hour are seen, Near hollow caverns sportin, Then lads an’ lasses aft convene, In hopes to ken their fortune, By freets that night. At Jennet Reid’s not long ago, Was held an annual meeting, Of lasses fair an’ fine also, With charms the most inviting: Though it was wat, an’ wondrous mirk, It stopp’d nae kind intention; Some sprightly youths, frae Loudon-kirk, Did haste to the convention, Wi’ glee that night. The nuts upon a clean hearthstane, Were plac’d by ane anither, An’ some gat lads, an’ some gat nane, Just as they bleez’d the gither. Some sullen cooffs refuse to burn; Bad luck can ne’er be mended; But or they a’ had got a turn, The pokeful nits was ended Owre soon that night. A candle on a stick was hung, An’ ti’d up to the kipple: Ilk lad an’ lass, baith auld an’ young, Did try to catch the apple; Which aft, in spite o’ a’ their care, Their furious jaws escaped; They touch’d it ay, but did nae mair, Though greedily they gaped, Fu’ wide that night. The dishes then, by joint advice, Were plac’d upon the floor; Some stammer’d on the toom ane thrice, In that unlucky hour. Poor Mall maun to the garret go, Nae rays o’ comfort meeting; Because sae aft she’s answered no, She’ll spend her days in greeting, An’ ilka night. Poor James sat trembling for his fate; He lang had dree’d the worst o’t; Though they had tugg’d and rugg’d till yet, To touch the dish he durst not. The empty bowl, before his eyes, Replete with ills appeared; No man nor maid could make him rise, The consequence he feared Sae much that night. - Janet Little The scent of chatty witches gossiping with neighbors at midnight: ripe red apples, honey mead, poppy seed cakes, a trickle of sweet 7-year aged patchouli, and bundles of dry herbs. apples and hay with herbs. patchouli come out after a while to mellow it out.

    The Witch Bride

A fair witch crept to a young man's side, And he kiss'd her and took her for his bride. But a Shape came in at the dead of night, And fill'd the room with snowy light. And he saw how in his arms there lay A thing more frightful than mouth may say. And he rose in haste, and follow'd the Shape Till morning crown'd an eastern cape. And he girded himself, and follow'd still When sunset sainted the western hill. But, mocking and thwarting, clung to his side, Weary day!-the foul Witch-Bride. (Aw, c'mon, Allingham. Foul is a pretty strong choice of words, dontcha think?) Pale and lovely, with eyes belladonna-wide: hemlock blossoms and ghostly nightshade veiled by wisteria, white frankincense, black amber, and narcissus resin. I'm at a loss as to how to translate the scent experience of witch bride to words so that you, the reader, could gain some understanding of how it smells and decide if it's something you want to seek out. sorry! I blind bought my bottle based upon the label art and the theme and the notes and I adore it. I don't tend to go for straight up florals, and this isn't that. there's a sweet and warm resiny base, and some light florals (my favorite bpal narcissus experience to date!) on top, and it's just a nice beautiful blend. I only detect the herbal notes if I look for them, and I may only be sensing them because I read them in the description. they are subtle and add a nice bit of complexity (spoken by someone who loves very herby winter stars and the waters of the well of wisdom). witch bride is light to moderate in strength. very addciting.

    The White Witch

O brothers mine, take care! Take care! The great white witch rides out to-night. Trust not your prowess nor your strength, Your only safety lies in flight; For in her glance there is a snare, And in her smile there is a blight. The great white witch you have not seen? Then, younger brothers mine, forsooth, Like nursery children you have looked For ancient hag and snaggle-tooth; But no, not so; the witch appears In all the glowing charms of youth. Her lips are like carnations, red, Her face like new-born lilies, fair, Her eyes like ocean waters, blue, She moves with subtle grace and air, And all about her head there floats The golden glory of her hair. But though she always thus appears In form of youth and mood of mirth, Unnumbered centuries are hers, The infant planets saw her birth; The child of throbbing Life is she, Twin sister to the greedy earth. And back behind those smiling lips, And down within those laughing eyes, And underneath the soft caress Of hand and voice and purring sighs, The shadow of the panther lurks, The spirit of the vampire lies. For I have seen the great white witch, And she has led me to her lair, And I have kissed her red, red lips And cruel face so white and fair; Around me she has twined her arms, And bound me with her yellow hair. I felt those red lips burn and sear My body like a living coal; Obeyed the power of those eyes As the needle trembles to the pole; And did not care although I felt The strength go ebbing from my soul. Oh! she has seen your strong young limbs, And heard your laughter loud and gay, And in your voices she has caught The echo of a far-off day, When man was closer to the earth; And she has marked you for her prey. She feels the old Antaean strength In you, the great dynamic beat Of primal passions, and she sees In you the last besieged retreat Of love relentless, lusty, fierce, Love pain-ecstatic, cruel-sweet. O, brothers mine, take care! Take care! The great white witch rides out to-night. O, younger brothers mine, beware! Look not upon her beauty bright; For in her glance there is a snare, And in her smile there is a blight. Love pain-ecstatic, cruel-sweet: gold-flecked honey amber pulsating with red musk, patchouli coeur, bourbon vanilla, inky vetiver, pomegranate rind, myrrh, blackened violet leaf, and blood red rose petals. This is such beautiful (and unexpected for me) scent! I was not initally drawn to this scent (violet leaf and vetiver are typically enough for me to run far away). But, at will call I threw caution to the wind and tried it. A little while later, I found myself searching my notes to figure out which beautiful scent was wafting off of my left wrist. This is a dark, ripe rose, but it does not smell like rose alone. I get a dark, rich, sweet scent wafting off, yet closer to my wrists the rose becomes more noticeable. The violet is not noticeable at all, and the vetiver is only a minor player which keeps the scent from getting too sweet. On me, the red musk, honeyed amber and rose are dominant. Other notes provide depth and a darker, sexy vibe. On me, this feels like a darker sister to Eldritch Dark. They do not smell the same at all, but give me a similar, rich vibe. This is not a newly blossomed rose, but a deep red fully bloomed rose that beckons you closer.

    Sugar Skull

Vibrant with the joy and sweetness of life in death! A blend of five sugars, lightly dusted with candied fruits. I am nervous to be the first here but everyone is clamoring for a review. In the bottle: This smells like opening a new package of brown sugar- deep, fresh, bright. It reminds me of bartending and making my own simple syrup on the stove-top before work. When the sugar becomes heated and begins to boil, the scent rises up like this. Mmmm...almost like the crusted shell of a freshly-made creme brulee. On my arm and wrist: Whoa! This is suddenly taking on a new shape and I am falling in love There is a snap to the smell now that was undiscernableb/f in the bottle. Its almost spicy and definitely gives an edge to the sugar smell. I keep on sniffing my arm, wanting to smell it agian and again. It reminds me of something...hmm...what is it?? Kinda reminds me of Demeter's Snow fragrance which is clean and makes you feel pure and happy. Except that this being Bpal, it is far more complex and provocative. Something in this smell makes me think of Big Red gum but I don't know why...I don't get a cinnamon hit off this oil but I keep coming back to this impression. A few hours later: This has mellowed but is still going strong. Now, it reminds me of marzipan with maybe a hint of mint or something refreshing like that in it. I love it! This one has really surprised me...I generally don't go in for the sweet scents but this one has bite and legs must be the "skull" in the "sugar"!

    Sonnet D'Automne

- They say to me, your eyes, clear as crystal: "For you, bizarre lover, what is my merit then?" - Be charming and be still! My heart, which all things irk, Except the candor of the animals of old, Does not wish to reveal its black secret to you, Whose lulling hands invite me to long sleep, Nor its somber legend written with flame. I hate passion; intelligence makes me suffer! Let us love each other sweetly. Tenebrous Love, Ambushed in his shelter, stretches his fatal bow. I know all the weapons of his old arsenal: Crime, horror, and madness! - pale marguerite! Are you not, like me, an autumnal sun, O my Marguerite, so white and so cold? - Charles Baudelaire, translated by William Aggeler Tenebrous Love: a shivering white musk with vanilla-infused white cocoa, amber incense, and dead, dry leaves. This kid is biz-arre. Right onto the skin this is the crispy, decaying dried leaves note like from Death of Autumn, which I will mourn to the grave. Ooooooh, yeah. Dark, kinda moldy and acidic. My kinda thing. But then...morph...mint? What the hell? It smells like it's changing into the Last Unicorn. Now, with the Last Unicorn I blamed this minty/misty niff on the lilac, but methinks it be the white chocolate! WHY?!?! Gaaaaaah!!!! At this stage of the game, I'm not very happy. My leaves are gone and it smells a lot like lavender and chamomile baby powder and White Rabbit. Again-why? It smells...good...pleasant...like back in 05 when I wore White Rabbit and was nursing my babies...but I'm kind of freaking out. She's changed from Doc Martin's on the pavement to ballet slippers in the nursery, from fall to winter, in a matter of moments. THEN, she sweetens up and mellows out considerably, looses the "minty" and much of the "baby", and becomes more musky...sexier. Now, while it is still a sweet and cool scent, it feels a lot like a cousin of Snow White and Antique Lace. Hours later she's a wisp of clean, sweet, warm, slightly ambery vanilla musk. My kids say I smell really good. Shhh...Me and Sonnet...we are going to have to get to know each other a little better. Maybe I'm just being a gunshy freaky bitch, but I think she's...crazy. Like, she seemed really fierce and independent at first but it turns out she might be really squishy and girly. Is she putting on some kind of act? I know...I KNOW! That's a HORRIBLE thing to say. We are definitely having some issues. I'm just not used to it! I need to get used to it. I want to like her! I have every reason TO like her. She's complex, keeps me on my toes, stays close to the skin, likes to snuggle, good with the kids. It's the SHIFT, it's the mystery mint thing... It's not you, it's ME! I thought you'd be darker, creepier, more autumny. I want to get to know you...I DO! OMG! You smell GOOD! What do you WANT from ME?!?! Sigh... Let's go for a ride, bitch...I think we can work it out. It's gonna be really interesting to see how she works out for other people.

    All Saints'

Based on a venerable French pontifical incense blend: monastic frankincense and myrrh, Damascus rose, Russian gardenia, cassia, and lily of the valley wafting on a chill Autumn wind. A celebration of the glory and suffering of the saints and matryrs of the Church. I tottered over to Black Broom to get this lovely - so glad i did! Bear with me, I really cant figure out why i love this so much, but it is really comforting and delicious! out of the bottle - smells just like Harvest Moon when you put it on - the part where it deepens into chocolatey dark corny bread. uhoh, i am hoping this isnt a mislabel! but its definately different from Harvest Moon out of the bottle, darker, softer. upon wearing - de - li - ci -ous!!!!! Its very dark and soft, i cant pick out any particular notes just see in my mind dark wood moulding, marble floor, woolen suits and maybe a little tobacco drydown - It gets a little lighter, like the florals are making a last desperate attempt to push their way through the dark softness, but then settles into a lovely softness, much like velvet but darker and smoother and lighter (is that possible! yes it is!). It has lasted a really long time on me, i put it on like 4 hours ago and i still can a sniffasniff.... This is my FAVORITE oil to date. I cannot stop sniffing my wrist in the most obsessive way! I also must state that this smells NOTHING like what i thought it would from the description!! I didnt immediatly order this when the LEs were announced because i was a little scared of the rose and gardenia aspect of All Saints - I have been having bad luck with florals lately - but whatever the "Autumn Chill" is seems like what helps it mix into something so indescibably formal, delicious and comforting! I wish it was cooler here, this is what i want my turtleneck sweaters to smell like, and makes me want to wear my glasses and a bun in my hair. In a sexy librarian way, of course! edited to add: i wore it again today and its less foody, more resinous, im feeling the church thing a lot more now. I realized that it reminds me exactly of that Claire McCardell Monastic dress, brown jersey with a hood from the 40's, severe and sexy but tres formal. Still hard to pick out any notes. Still feels lovely formal and soft, and yes, monastic.

    Single Note: Fog Machine Juice

I have to say this has the ozoney and hazy quality that was also found in Thriambus atmo spray. Which I did very much like. Since there is gothy club mist in there, I imagine that's the same note.

    Hallow-e’en, 1914

"Why do you wait at your door, woman, Alone in the night?” “I am waiting for one who will come, stranger, To show him a light. He will see me afar on the road And be glad at the sight.” “Have you no fear in your heart, woman, To stand there alone? There is comfort for you and kindly content Beside the hearthstone.” But she answered, “No rest can I have Till I welcome my own.” “Is it far he must travel to-night, This man of your heart?” “Strange lands that I know not and pitiless seas Have kept us apart, And he travels this night to his home Without guide, without chart.” “And has he companions to cheer him?” “Aye, many,” she said. “The candles are lighted, the hearthstones are swept, The fires glow red. We shall welcome them out of the night— Our home-coming dead.” - Winifred M. Letts A welcome for the home-coming dead: an incense of dried ivy and maple leaf with honeyed fig, black cypress, and grave dirt. AHHH first review!! No pressure. ITB: Green dirt. Basically Beth's graveyard dirt is my favorite thing, and I leaped at the chance to try this. There is also a deep, almost vetiver like feel to this in the bottle that I love. Wet: The green dirt is now lightened by the honey, but the smoke in this really keeps the cloying in check. The dried leaves are very much burning incense and not just leaves, which gives this a super smokey and evocative feeling. Drying: The harsh smokey edge has worn off, making this much more rounder and balanced. I think I can smell something that must be fig as the honey fades a little, and it's really surprisingly wonderful and not foody. Dry: I had no idea I was going to find this sexy when it dried, but something about the honey and fig combined with the smoke and dryness of leaves really reminds me of some sort of fall/Halloween seductress. I can imagine Morticia Addams smelling like this. The smoke and leaves are very much in the back now, but they ground the sweeter scents really well and add really interesting dimension to this perfume. This is really feminine without being at all typical or overly floral, and I can see this aging amazingly. So glad I tried it!

    Pumpkin Spice Everything

[No additional description provided.] Okay, usually, I'm not a big fan of scents that include pumpkin, because I don't like cooked pumpkin and they tend toward pumpkin pie. Not so with this. I smell juicy raw pumpkin, with a dash of spice. Really lovely!
  15. Occasionally there are scents that just spawn that "YES, EXACTLY THAT" sort of response where they're pretty much 100% as described. This one takes me back to the Jewish cemeteries I've wandered through in the Czech Republic -- to my family's gravesite in Brno, with moss tracing the markers and pine underfoot as I searched for the right row; to the large cemetery in Prague, with the famous gravestones crowded with pebbles and coins people have left behind; to the tumbledown hillside in Mikulov, where the stones were pulled up during the war and yew and fruit trees stand side by side. It's one of those visceral memory kind of scents for me, where I stood there sniffing the bottle at Will Call and just kind of spaced out for a second. Babbling glee aside: this one's wet dirt in the bottle to me, with a hint of trampled old-pine greenery and grass shadowing it. I didn't put it on my skin -- I'm not sure if it's something I'd want to smell like, necessarily? -- but it's a lovely unique thing all the same. (And now I think I might have talked myself into buying it after all, when I talked myself out of it at Will Call yesterday, just to shove my nose in the bottle on those bad days ...)

    October

Ay, thou art welcome, heaven's delicious breath! When woods begin to wear the crimson leaf, And suns grow meek, and the meek suns grow brief And the year smiles as it draws near its death. Wind of the sunny south! oh, still delay In the gay woods and in the golden air, Like to a good old age released from care, Journeying, in long serenity, away. In such a bright, late quiet, would that I Might wear out life like thee, 'mid bowers and brooks And dearer yet, the sunshine of kind looks, And music of kind voices ever nigh; And when my last sand twinkled in the glass, Pass silently from men, as thou dost pass. Dry, cold autumn wind. A rustle of red leaves, a touch of smoke and sap in the air. This is the scent I've looked forward to - some of my favorite autumn smells, all rolled into a single perfume. In the bottle, this was sharp and masculine. Ooo, very sharp. Wet, it transformed immediately to the scent of mouldering leaves, with an overtone of men's cologne. Dry, the throw is all wet, decaying leaves (which I find quite pleasant), but unfortunately, when I bring my wrist to my nose, all I smell is cheap men's cologne and a whiff of musk. On the whole, I think my skin chemistry has played me false once more.

    Visions of Autumn I

White cedar, black pepper, golden amber, bay leaf, and 4-year aged oudh. I can smell every single note listed in the description. The end result is a beautiful, golden-cedar scent. Cedar definitely dominates here and the amber and oudh add a golden glow that rounds it out and makes it more robust. The bay leaf offers a pale green somberness, and - at least to my nose - takes a bit of the spotlight off the amber/oudh and mutes them a little. The black pepper is an accent gives the whole thing a touch of prickly spice. It is really, really pretty.

    Devil's Night

Devil's Eve, Devil's Night, Gate Night, Trick Night, Mischief Night; whatever your name for it might be, the chaos is still the same. Contrary to popular belief, this festival of pandemonium isn't unique to Detroit. Falling on October 30th, it is an evening of mayhem and destruction. On the gentler side, it may be celebrated by practical jokes, an egging, Ding-Dong-Ditch, or enthusiastic TP'ing of your most hated neighbor's trees, and on the more violent side, arson and vandalism. This is the scent of autumn night, fires in the distance, with a touch of boozy swoon, playful sugar and thuggish musk. Well, this is nothing like I expected. I expected it to be heavier and it's actually very light wearing on me. Beth nailed it with "autumn night" as that's what this smells like with a ever so slight hint of sugary/booziness. It is not at all too sweet or too boozy though. They are just very soft in the background. I do smell the note that I smell whenever Beth has a scent with the description "Autumn Winds". I have no idea what it is but it is very evocative of just that. When I was walking outside yesterday, it was chilly and the leaves were falling and I inhaled deeply and thought to myself "now that's an autumn air" and now I've got that in an oil but it's made even yummier with the sugar. This is really lovely and I am glad I bought more than one bottle. I don't think it resembles the Hex (can't spell it) LE at all, so I think those who speculated that this would be close may be disappointed. Although, I can smell just a tiny comparison to it. ETA: I'm noticing something spicy (almost gingerish) in this now. I don't know what it could be but this stage is really yummy. I just touched it up about an hour ago.

    Pumpkin I (2014)

Pumpkin artwork by Amy Kinard! Pumpkin cream with cardamom, black tea, allspice, and ginger milk. I have to confess to being generally ambivalent about pumpkin, with the exception of Pumpkin King. A few of this year's Weenie's might have changed that, though, especially this one. I get pumpkin (fruit, not pie), allspice, and cardamom with a drop of tea. It's a great spicy fall scent that still stays edible smelling, without going to the generic pumpkin pie that I mostly get from pumpkin fragrances.
  20. Last year's stale candy corn. I love, love, love candy corn so I had to try a decant of this! It's a weird scent. Wet, it does smell like stale sugar or maybe old honey? It dries down to a strong sugar, but there's a plastic note under it that warps it. Might just be my skin, though. I'll be interested to hear how it works on other people! But for me, that plastic note ruins it.
  21. Siste viator. I have very short hair, and was very excited about this because as a guy I can't usually (as much as I'd like to) pull off the more floral, exotic, strongly scented glosses. I don't need much. For some reason this iteration of hair gloss spray has a much more clear and easy to spray, non-clogging top. Hope this holds up! In a nutshell, this is dark, broody, but a bit drier and more high pitched than I expected. I expected some dark, thrummy musk, but this is predominantly a smoky tobacco (more the flower, although it's dry, crisp, bronze, if that makes sense). The clove, while present, is not as strong as in such things as Velvet Bandito or the Black Clove candle. The type of dirt is not the exuberant moist filthiness of Graveyard Dirt, but more the same tone found in Down the Rabbit Hole. The overall effect is a truly 'environmental' and evocative scent, while not traditionally pleasant, will appeal to those who like dry, potting soil, and an earthy, yet not overpowering, light aura of fragrance in the hair. I kind of smell like a hipster zombie. Two paws up!

    Marshmallow Pumpkin Bath Oil

MARSHMALLOW PUMPKIN Marshmallow goo and pumpkin pulp! If you have the Marshmallow Pumpkin scent from last year then you already know what you're getting here... it's marshmallow-y goodness with a bit of spice. I use my bath oils as body oils after my shower. I'm so happy to have a lathering product to use with the scent oil. and the label art is fabulous. The cartoon girl is wearing BPAL socks!

    Single Note: Stage Blood

Yussss. Cherry cordial and dragon's blood make for a juicy scent that oddly enough, totally does remind me of stage blood.

    Bonfire Smoke Atmosphere Spray

Woodmoke, glowing embers, drifting ash, and the memory of bones. At first spray, this is a high pitched, sharp smoke, which wasn't what I expected. But it quickly dissipated into something warm and comfy. There is a hint of things thrown into this bonfire besides firewood- it's not strictly a campfire, but perhaps some old boards with rusty nails are burning in the bonfire, giving just a hint of metal in with the wood. As it fades, the wood burns down into that familiar campfire smell, and softens into the smell you have left in your hair or on a sweater the next day after the bonfire is gone. Interestingly, this isn't as strong or long-lasting as Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Pyre, which lasts for days. This is a good smoke scent for those of us who miss having a fireplace and want to add that touch of coziness to the home. It's really lovely to add a touch of smoke when sprayed alongside another room spray, such as Konditorie, Samhain, or other foodie sprays.

    Pumpkin IV (2014)

Pumpkin artwork by Neal Segler! Warm pumpkin with three honeys, oudh, sweet frankincense, and champaca resin. A PUMPKIN SCENT THAT WORKS ON ME! A PUMPKIN SCENT THAT WORKS ON ME! I am one of those unluckies whose skin amps cinnamon like nobody's business. I have tried many a pumpkin creation by Beth and my skin has failed me every time, turning beautiful pumpkin scents into a terrible cheap smelly candle awfulness!! Well, I am ecstatic to say that this scent is THE PUMPKIN ONE for me and I am in love! Wet it is a warm, slightly spiced pumpkin scent. I could sense the cinnamon trying to force it's way to the top once again, but as it dried the Champaca resin made its debut and the cinnamon disappeared!! Then the most wonderful thing happened... the three honeys showed up and melted into the pumpkin and champaca for a sweet foody melody... It is what I always wanted a pumpkin scent to be!!! I was so happy I hugged Beth!! I have spent the evening driving home from Will Call with my wrist glued to my nose. Verdict: I should have bought more than one bottle!!! WINNER!!
