Ay, thou art welcome, heaven's delicious breath! When woods begin to wear the crimson leaf, And suns grow meek, and the meek suns grow brief And the year smiles as it draws near its death. Wind of the sunny south! oh, still delay In the gay woods and in the golden air, Like to a good old age released from care, Journeying, in long serenity, away. In such a bright, late quiet, would that I Might wear out life like thee, 'mid bowers and brooks And dearer yet, the sunshine of kind looks, And music of kind voices ever nigh; And when my last sand twinkled in the glass, Pass silently from men, as thou dost pass. Dry, cold autumn wind. A rustle of red leaves, a touch of smoke and sap in the air. This is the scent I've looked forward to - some of my favorite autumn smells, all rolled into a single perfume. In the bottle, this was sharp and masculine. Ooo, very sharp. Wet, it transformed immediately to the scent of mouldering leaves, with an overtone of men's cologne. Dry, the throw is all wet, decaying leaves (which I find quite pleasant), but unfortunately, when I bring my wrist to my nose, all I smell is cheap men's cologne and a whiff of musk. On the whole, I think my skin chemistry has played me false once more.

The fear of Halloween. Menacing Haitian vetiver, patchouli, and clove with a shock of bourbon geranium, grim oakmoss, and dread-inspiring balsams pierce the innocuous scent of autumn leaves. In the Bottle: Ah, my beloved vetiver! And some subtle muskiness lurking beneath. On my wrist, wet: This is lovely. Warm and woody with a little bit of spiciness. The vetiver takes a back seat and lets the other notes come out to play. After 20 minutes: This is a warm, dark green scent That starts out rather strong and fades quickly to something soft and subtle. The individual notes are all present, but they reveal themselves gently. On my skin, nothing in this blend amps or battles with other notes. It's absolutely gorgeous and I will get another bottle with my next order.

ALL SOULS A day of remembrance and intercession. Without the prayers and sacrifices of their families and loved ones, the faithful departed may not be cleansed of their venal sins, and thereby cannot attain beatific vision. On November 2nd, prayers are sung and offerings are made to aid lost souls in transcending purgatory. An incense blend that invokes the higher qualities of mercy and compassion, mingled with the soft, sugared currant scent of offertory soul cakes. When I first put this on, I could mainly smell soft incense. I thought that it was my imagination until I re-read the description. I can smell buttery cake notes in the background, but mostly I smell soft incense and what I think is the currant note, rather sharp coming out from behind the incense. My skin will tend to amp the sweet, but maybe others will smell more of the foody notes. I think that this is a lovely combination of foody and incensy, which for me is the best of both worlds

Pumpkin with pear, white wine grapes, and jasmine-laced tea. In the bottle all buttery pumpkin, with a light note of something sweet behind it. Wet, pumpkin butter. As it dries the butter diaappears, pear and wine grapes appear. Not grapey like candy. Like I'm on a picnic in a vineyard. Having tea and pumpkin tarts. Delish!

Pumpkin with cactus blossom, sage, and sweetgrass. In the bottle this is mostly a warm but not buttery pumpkin scent. Once on, it sweetens up florally and the pumpkin really takes a back seat to the cactus blossom and sweetgrass (I think - I don't really know those notes individually but whatever I'm smelling is definitely flowery and not as much pumpkin-y). My nose detects a bit of sage and something slightly musty like hay. After a while I can't really smell the pumpkin at all which is weird because my skin usually loves and amps it. Not sure how I feel about this blend. It's the least autumn-like in my opinion. I'll have to test it again to see if it's a keeper.

Pumpkin with benzoin, bourbon vanilla, lemon peel, neroli, blood orange, and red ginger. Hooo boy I like this one a lot! Straight up it is pumpkin and red ginger. I *love* red ginger and this is the same as the ginger in Pumpkin Queen which is one of my favorites. Actually, this is very similar to Pumpkin Queen but maybe a little less fruity and bit more spicy/pumkiny. Yum!

A memory of pleasure passed. A ghostly rendezvous, delight beyond death. Faint echoes of laughter and the distorted music of a harp drift by, along with the scent of soft white pear and sweet vanilla. Foodies scent lovers like me- you need this. OMFGWTFBBQ this is sooo GOOD! Straight out of the bottle is is 'HELLO PEAR!!' But not just any old pear, the most ripe and juicy pear. The kind that is so tangy and sweet and juicy and drips down your face when you take a bite. The kind that smells so good your whole kitchen smells like pear. But wait, there's more. After I put this on my skin that tangy sweet pear got cut up and put into a biiiig bowl of vanilla ice cream. After a few minutes the pear fades a bit, just like it would if you were eating that bowl of ice cream and you picked out half the pear bits from the top and ate them first. And as it drys down the pear fades and you are left with yummy vanilla ice cream at the bottom of the bowl because all the pear has been eaten. And the vanilla ice cream scent lingers all day long. Yes foody lovers- fruit and pear lovers. THIS is the one.

Pumpkin with white chocolate, caramel, pomegranate, and cream. Straight up this is decadent chocolate cake and cream. Though it says it is white chocolate my nose smells dark chocolate. After putting it on my skin the pomegranate comes peeking it's little red head out from around the corner making this a chocolate caramel topped cake with a gushy red fruity center. After a few minutes the pomegranate comes out a little more. I am not getting any pumpkin out of this or any buttery notes, nor is the fruit super strong. Those who like chocolate blends will love this!

Blackened, rotted oak wood blanketed in moss and choked by a cloak of grasping ivy. My reputation precedes me, as a lot of people guessed this one would be in my order! I'm not sure if this is different from the version I smelled at Will Call but it definitely fits the bill for a scorched tree scent. It is different enough from the other woody blends that I've tried so far this year to set it apart in its own perfect little blackened, damp alcove. First, the label: love blue labels! A beautiful dark midnight blue scene complete with bats. Oh how I love twisted trees. It is a different sort of smoky, blackened wood from that which we smell in some other burnt wood blends -- it is not the smoke of Brimstone or Djinn, for example. It is not the smoky gunpowder burn of Agnes Nutter or Bonfire Night. It is more like a trunk where the fire was long ago extinguished, and it is now damp, rotted and caked with moss. It also reminds me of a darker cousin of October, with the crackle of dusty dried leaves and the refreshing blast of autumn air. The ivy is surprisingly strong in this as it dries. A crisp, green almost watery flourish of ivy growing out of the charred trunk. Ivy fans would do well to try this out, and wait for the initial smoky wood to dissipate to get the full effect of ivy. ETA: Fans of the Black Tower take note, this is similar in tone when it dries down, without the wine note. I'm still waiting for the longterm drydown on this, I'm just testing it quickly out of excitement. This year's crop of woody autumn scents is everything I could wish for.

The incense-tinged scent of forbidden tomes and the musk-laden remnants of infernal servants. An incensy library scent?! Are you kidding me?! They didn't even have to ask me to order this, they should have just billed me for it automatically! Don't be afraid though if incense is not your thing, this is a subtle incense, that has long since settled into the dusty volumes. It has soaked into the parchment, beneath layers of dust. A gentle, warm scent that really doesn't display its full lurid set of papery plumage until you put it on. These sort of scents really warm on my skin and become nuzzle-worthy. Put it on your favorite bookworm and then you'll want to distract him/her from their reading as it heats up on their skin. I think I catch a glimpse of the incense I loved in Riding the Goat -- a soft, slightly sweet, slightly tobacco-like note, woody and glossy and rich, but muted and distant in this blend. Faint wisps of smoke, and a breath warming on the back of your neck -- but when you turn to face the sweet-smelling spectre, he has vanished and only a faint outline remains traced in the air. Wear this one when you read at night, or study, or in the library, or a haunted mansion, basement, or haunted forest.

Wine just turning to vinegar, crumbling mortar, red clay, and the coppery tang of old blood. This is a dusty scent, just like you'd imagine an abandoned cellar would smell. There is definitely a coppery tang to it, as the description says. It smells vaguely of dirt / earth in the throw, which is likely the red clay note. And there is just the slightest hint of fruit, coming from the wine.

BONFIRE NIGHT Guy Fawkes, Guy; Stick him up on high! Hang him on a lamp post And there let him die! Guy, Guy, Guy! Poke Him in the eye! Put him on the fire, And there let him die! Burn his body from his head: Then you'll say Guy Fawkes is dead! Hip, Hip, Hooray! Beer, woodsmoke, tar, and treacle. Oh dear, I'm first? Yikes! This has a coffee sort of note... with smoke and just a little booze. It drys down very nicely into a warm bonfire (it actually is a lot like Death of Autumn without the first wet rottenness). I almost wonder if I got a mislabeled bottle of one or the other... There is just a hint of gunpowder but it's not nearly as much there as it is in Agnes Nutter which is what put me off there. This is slight enough to blend in nicely. It's a wonderful scent to wear to burn the Guy!

When reeds are dead and a straw to thatch the marshes, And feathered pampas-grass rides into the wind Like aged warriors westward, tragic, thinned Of half their tribe, and over the flattened rushes, Stripped of its secret, open, stark and bleak, Blackens afar the half-forgotten creek , -- Then leans on me the weight of the year, and crushes My heart. I know that Beauty must ail and die, And will be born again, -- but ah, to see Beauty stiffened, staring up at the sky! Oh, Autumn! Autumn! -- What is the Spring to me? Dark amber, dead leaves, khus, saffron, bitter clove, chrysanthemum, camellia, galangal, and a drop of oud. At first sniff out of the bottle I get a that 'greenhouse' smell of plants, not flowers, but plants. Which is probably the chrysanthemum talking. Then the Khus comes out to play which to my nose smells just like Vetiver. Once on my skin right away it becomes the smell of dead leaves all the way. *sniff sniff* Yep, dead leaves/dying plants with a very slight hint of smoke. After a few minutes it begines to morph and I start to smell a hint of the amber, clove and saffron. This amber is not as sweet as other amber blends, it is indeed 'dark'. The clove in the is very mild and on the back burner. I want to say it is slightly similar to Baghdad at dry down, but much darker and complex. After 20 minutes it morphs again and becomes sweeter and a little spicier. As it fades is is now all amber on me. I love sweet/spicy scents and this phase is my favorite so far. This one is such a morpher and all the phases are wonderful. It's such an exotic dark and sexy blend, I love it! So yea, dead leaves on a crisp day in autumn and a faint whiff of Halloween spiced amber. Yep, I'd say this IS the smell of the girls perfume from the Type O' Negative song 'Black #1' fer sure.

Pumpkin with tobacco, champa flower, carnation, and tonka. In the bottle, this is pumpkin with a touch of spice. On the skin, it's pumpkin with a touch of something fruity and almost juicy. There's still a bit of spice there so that must be the carnation, but it's blending well with the rest of the notes -- just adding a spicy warmth to the blend. The longer it wears the less pumpkin it is -- when it was first applied, in the first few seconds it was PUMPKIN. Now, it's much quieter and blending with the rest of notes. This is reminding me a lot of Pumpkin Queen which is fantastic as I adore Pumpkin Queen. It sticks close and doesn't have a lot of throw. Sniffing my wrist from a bit farther away the tobacco and carnation are more apparent, whereas if I have my nose plastered against my arm it is all spicy warmth and I can smell the pumpkin. The longer it wears, the more the spice is coming out on me. It just smells damn good! Not super foody, just spicy and warm - delicious. I have to get another bottle of this.

Overgrown oleander, marshy water hemlock, the sugared nectar of carnivorous blooms, putrefying wet greenery, oozing sap, crushed rosary peas, withered climbing roses, and nightshade berries. I searched, but couldn't find a review so...*gulp*...here goes. At first sniff from the bottle I definitely got white floral (Oleander?) with wet greenery. It's very pleasant and immediately made me think of what a tropical greenhouse smells like in the fall. On my skin and on the dry down the floral softens a bit and the greenery gets a little stronger. Not strong as in mossy - it's almost like fresh cut stems directly from the garden. Altogether it's very pretty and feminine, but not girly, the throw is very good and it seems to have better than average longevity. I'm so glad I took a chance and bought a big bottle!

A shadowy shrine filled with forgotten toys, broken dolls. The altar: a collapsing trunk distended by a rotted wedding gown. The air of the room is dusty, laced with the scent of a child's perfume and the remnants of a dried, crumbling bridal bouquet: tea rose, violet, white sandalwood, French lavender, and Calla lily. At first sniff in the bottle, I wasn't that impressed. It smelled dull, boring and unimpressive. I was crushed because this was the Haunted House blend I was really looking forward to receiving. The second I put this on my skin, all doubts were gone because this is one beautiful blend. On first sniff, the rose is the first note to come out with a bang. It's the same rose note in Hope, but slightly less sugared. The violet is the violet in Faith, my favorite violet of all. There is the linen note of Antique Lace, but instead of being in the forefront, in the Attic it's a soft side-note. This is like the beautiful combination of three of my most favorite scents, but with a twist. The dust is there keeping the florals at bay and it makes the scent a bit more grounded, less heady and so beautiful. Gorgeous.

Sleek iris and verbena, grey amber, benzoin, davana, and glossy herbs. Deeply herbal yet sexy blend. I love herbals but haven't yet used the word 'sexy' in the same sentence while writing a review(I don't think). Something reminiscent of blond tobacco? I kept thinking of the Luperci Heroine scents. The Indian ones. My nose isn't sophisticated like a lot of other BPAL'ers so after doing a search it seems its the Davana that is most prominent. To me it reminds me of tobacco, aromatic cooking spices, tomato leaf even. Murder of Crows also reminds me of the herbs found in blends like ..... ? Couple of days later, with the full moon and my hormones switching around I find the herbal side more prominent. Slightly warm, dry and just a touch powdery. Overall, this is a sexy herbal. Not sexy in a black leather or mini-skirt way. More approachable and friendly.

Thick shadows hang heavy across fungus-smeared, dilapidated wainscoting, cobwebs hang like fine lace across sagging mouldings, rats scuttle past gaping doorways. The faint scent of brimstone, ghostly breath laced with cognac, neglected mahogany panels, and rot. In the bottle and when immediately applied to the skin, this is not much else than musty stone. As it dries, there's something almost floral about it and I can't quite figure out why. Maybe it's the cognac? Now that I've looked at the description, it does smell a bit more like cognac to me... it has that slight alcoholic tang to it. Very interesting. It's amazing how a drop of oil can smell like a solid, albeit rotting and crumbling, stone.
