Spring Cleaning 2023

Finally getting around to this... sorry to my broom if I'm a terrible dustpan LOL   Jars:   I have SOOOOOOOO many... but they are useful and not plastic so I'm sure I could use another LOL 70s Fabric:  I don't know that I would personally use it but I LOVE 70s aesthetic and would definitely find a use/home for it even if I didn't use it personally   * Any use for embroidery floss? No  * Or seed beeds?also no * Or seed seeds? I've never tried to grow anything from a seed... but I'm into it * Feelings on comic books? I cannot.  My brain will not. * Same question, but poetry books? I love poetry * I recently pared my gaming setup down to a PS5, but I still have a ton of PS1-4 games kicking around. Are there any genres/titles you'd be interested in? I don't videogame * What size jigsaw puzzle would you like? 300, 500, 1000 pieces? our house is SOOOOOOOOOO tiny that we would not be able to use a puzzle without unwanted chaos * Tarot cards? Yay or nay? Meh? Sure! * Music? Digital? CDs? What genre? vinyl records are the only format of music I can play; otherwise streaming only * How about DVDs? Anyone still watch any of those? we're streaming only * Unused notebooks? they don't even have to be particularly unused!!!  just as long as there are still some usable pages I'm happy
* Do you like LUSH? Favorite scents? I like Lush but I'm not in LOVE with Lush.   * Do you bake? Would you be interested in sprinkles or any cake/cupcake decorating stuff? I don't kitchen
* Would you be interested in receiving a scarf? Any color preference? Climate changes seems to be bringing the cold to Texas more often and I don't own one so... sure!
* Would you be interested in receiving a hat? Any style or color preference? Black and/or gothy.
* Purse? I have a million purses and bags that I need to donate because I’ll never use them again! No    New Question- OCYL?  Any favorites? I'm into other perfume companies but I love hanahana beauty shea body butter (unscented is my fave but I'm easy) and am down to try other lotions and body washes etc.   Incense?  Any favorite scent types?  I like the headshop scents.... nag champa, patchouli, etc...      Any chance that you are a fan of murder mystery/escape rooms in a box? Or does this sound like something you might like to try? I'd love to try to see if I do like them! We're looking to expand our collection for game nights.  I have not tried such a thing but I would.  only caveat is that most "game nights" are just the husband and i so... if it needs more than 2 players we're kinda out   What are your feelings about booze, both my moonshine whiskey infusions or other interesting things that I have a lot of and bottles to share? I don't drink alcohol.   Matcha?  Yes   On a scale of 1-10, how "gothy/goth-adjacent" are you?  um... that's a hard question... other than my propensity for #allblackeverything, I don't know that an outsider would consider me particularly "goth"... but if you know me, you know that the #abe esthetic is an outcropping of my goth soul and love of all things death and creepy... I collect bones and skulls and mounted insects (with the exception of worms and caterpillars of which I have a bit of a phobia and which ick me out to an embarrassing extent)... but I don't wear makeup and my personal style is super casual and so I usually look like more of an old punk rock chick or just a trailer trash hippie than a member of the Addams or Salvatore families... AND since from my experience goth folx like to gatekeep "goth", I've never personally applied the term to myself... but... for the love of all the gods... please don't send me pastel things! they hurt me. ETA: Biscuits is my expression of all things cute, pastel, and girly... (@fluffywhitebiscuits on Instagram if you're not familiar with my familiar)   how would you feel about hair products like leave in conditioner, shampoo bars, texturizing products, dyes, etc.? I would LOOOOOOOOVE leave in conditioner but other products might not get much use, but you know... try me and see!   Do you need any pantry things like flours, sweeteners, or spices? we don't kitchen much in our house but if you send it I might give it a shot.  I don't particularly NEED flours but I do use almond flour a lot so I can always use more (we're not GF I just love the taste). Sweeteners - as long as they're all natural - sugars, honeys, agave nectar, maple syrup, etc.  We don't do any of the steevia/monkfruit/fake-n-sweet etc.  Spices - give me a try... we don't cook much but mostly because our kitchen sucks. LOL

Spring Cleaning Q&A

Updated 4-25-23 am   Embroidery floss?   No thanks. I want to say yes to this because I do like doing embroidery, but I know in my heart it is unlikely to happen.  Seed beads? No thanks.  Veggie seeds? No thanks.
Comic books?   Absolutely! There is a lot about my preferences and what I have and don't in my swap info and Goodreads.
Poetry? Yes please!
PS1-4? No thanks.  What size jigsaw puzzle would you like? 300, 500, 1000 pieces? Anything other than 300. Tarot cards? Yay or nay? No thanks. I have a couple of decks that I just never think to grab.  Music? Digital? CDs? What genre? I mostly use Spotify these days, but will occasionally I listen to CDs in the car. I mostly listen to 80s alternative, goth and industrial (I'm old),  but I am definitely interested in newer stuff and like just about anything other than serious dude country.  How about DVDs? Anyone still watch any of those? I really don't. There's a handful of things I might be interested in - e.g. some Terry Pratchett adaptations or other things that are only available on DVD.  Unused notebooks? Sure. I use these for notes when I'm doing mystery games.  Do you like LUSH?  Favorite scents?     I haven't used Lush in years, but I do like their body wash and lip balms, but have no idea what I like of their current line. I do not care for their soap and don't have a bathtub. Do you bake? Would you be interested in sprinkles or any cake/cupcake decorating stuff? I do bake - I would use sprinkles for sure. Other decorating stuff maybe - I don't tend to do fancy stuff.  Would you be interested in receiving a scarf? Any color preference? No thanks.  Would you be interested in receiving a hat? Any style or color preference? Winter hats no, but funky vintage ones sure.  purse? I have a million purses and bags that I need to donate because I’ll never use them again!  I can always use a fun cross-body bag.  OCYL - I think I covered this in my survey, but maybe not - I am pretty much BPAL only for perfumes, but I am up for just about anything in terms of scented body products.  Incense - Please DO NOT send me incense. Or tarts, because I just won't use them, but incense is almost always a migraine trigger for me.  Mystery/Escape Room Games - Absolutely, 100%. I have played a bunch of Deadbolt Mystery Society, Hunt a Killer and just started a sub to Finders Seekers.  Moonshine and other booze? I will take all of your booze, decanted, infused, or otherwise.  On a scale of 1-10, how "gothy/goth-adjacent" are you? A 10, I guess in that I used to be super in the scene in multiple cities, online, etc. While I haven't been super active in a long time, I definitely still feel very goth-adjacent in the sense that it's kinda always a dormant part of my identity. The Black No 1 will always flow in my veins (even if I was never actually raven haired).  would you use a brand new sealed package of organic matcha powder that has a best buy date of 2/23/23? Unlikely. I suppose I might use it to try my hand at matcha shortbread, but likely not before the use by date started to worry me (since I still don't even know where my flour and sugar are from our kitchen remodel).  Dustbin, how would you feel about hair products like leave in conditioner, shampoo bars, texturizing products, dyes, etc.? Maybe shampoo bars (if they can be used with dyed hair) or dry shampoo spray. Lightweight gel/goo that is good for short and/or wavy hair could be nice. Do you need any pantry things like flours, sweeteners, or spices? Always happy to take interesting spice blends or flavored sugars. Probably not flour. I could stash away any artificial sweetener that I could use in baking for the next time someone wants low-sugar friendly treats, but otherwise, I wouldn't use it personally.  Dustpan, would you like a mug? If it is large, dishwasher safe and relevant to my interests, sure. I will also take all of your random vintage/inspired tea cups and saucers, bonus if they are singletons.   Dustpan, what are your feelings on vintage toys, either just antique-type toys or things like Barbies, original MLP, etc.? (good condition, but no box) Mayyyyyyyyyybe if it's like a tin wind-up bat or something else directly relevant to my interests. There was a time when my youngest would have been all over original MLP, but they left that stage behind a while ago. Otherwise, I really need fewer collectables in my life.    Dustpan, how do you feel about home decor? Seasonal/day-to-day things? This is an area where I seriously need to declutter unless it is something super relevant to my interests. That said, I will definitely find a home for vintagey Halloween or Christmas deco, or things that could be used as serving dishes/utensils for our annual Halloween open house.

Spring Cleaning 2023 Q&As

Embroidery floss? Yeah, no thanks... I'm still playing catch-up with what I've had for a decade now lol. Seed beads? No thank you! Veggie seeds? If it's stuff that can reasonably be grown in a pot/bucket, sure. I don't have a green thumb but MIL does.
Comic books? I enjoy them!
Poetry? Sort of picky...but not opposed to them. Halsey's book was the last one I bought.
PS1-4? I know we have PS but I'm not sure which one... 3 or 4. What size jigsaw puzzle would you like? 300, 500, 1000 pieces? Surprise me. I'm not big on jigsaw puzzles but my family does them over the holidays when it's a full house and a variety of activities are needed. Tarot cards? Yay or nay? Meh? I don't utilize them (or at least haven't figured out how I'd like to) but I love good art. My best friend gifted me a Salvador Dali tarot deck one year and it's goooorgeous.   Music? Digital? CDs? What genre? I do have a soft spot for CDs. Uhm alternative rock? Think Linkin Park & Mike Shinoda, Hollywood Undead, I Prevail, Halsey. How about DVDs? Anyone still watch any of those? Very rarely, though I have a few very beloved movies on DVD that are my comfort movies! Unused notebooks? These would be handy dandy for the husb! I personally prefer journals. Do you like LUSH?  Favorite scents? FUNNY YOU ASK THIS.... I just discovered Superworld Unknown and Tank Battle, and I am TORN. I am trying to steer away from the brand, but if you've stuff to rehome, hubs love the Sakura bath bomb and I love Twilight and snow fairy! My tastes in perfume translate to body & body products. Do you bake? Would you be interested in sprinkles or any cake/cupcake decorating stuff? I do but I'm good on sprinkles and decorating things.  Would you be interested in receiving a scarf? Any color preference? No, thank you! Unless it's black or purple, and lightweight. I'll vibe with those. Would you be interested in receiving a hat? Any style or color preference? No, thank you! I'm just not a hat person unless it's cold AF out there. purse? I have a million purses and bags that I need to donate because I’ll never use them again! OH HO HO YES. I love a good purse and/or bag. My MIL would be interested in a purse that she could sling over her shoulder but isn't a cross-body type.   OCYL?  Any favorites? Any houses you would prefer not to receive from?  I love OCYL! I love Arcana (both wildcraft and craves - looking for Arcana's lipstick and marshmallow LNs), Nui Cobalt Designs (April Fools and Critters are my two favorite collections), Stereoplasm, NAVA gourmands, and recently started to venture into Solstice scents and Cocoapink! I came into a bulk lot of Whisper Sisters the other week, and while the house is too patchouli heavy for me, some of her gourmands are SO good! I don't care for Sucreabeille unless it's the Wayward AF (Supernatural) or Broken Hearts collections. I'm generally open to most OCYL as long as they're scents that don't embrace my doom notes. Incense?  Any favorite scent types?  No, thank you. I prefer candles and wax melts/tarts over incense. Any chance that you are a fan of murder mystery/escape rooms in a box? Or does this sound like something you might like to try? I'd love to try to see if I do like them! We're looking to expand our collection for game nights. What are your feelings about booze, both my moonshine whiskey infusions or other interesting things that I have a lot of and bottles to share? Would love to try them!   Would you use a brand new sealed package of organic matcha powder that has a best buy date of 2/23/23? I'd find a use, probably bake it into something yummy. On a scale of 1-10, how "gothy/goth-adjacent" are you? Probably 7 or 7.5 how would you feel about hair products like leave in conditioner, shampoo bars, texturizing products, dyes, etc.? I love leave-in conditioners! And we'd love to try more shampoo/conditioner bars if you have some unloved. Pass on texturizing products but medium hold pomades would be appreciated! As for hair dye...sure! I'm about to get my hair done but unsure what exactly my new hair shades will be lol. Do you need any pantry things like flours, sweeteners, or spices? We're okay on flours (husb went overboard when he was on a pasta kick). Sweeteners - I can't remember the names, but not the blue, pink or yellow ones. Stevia (green lol) has been okay and my MIL doesn't mind - we're open to trying other sweetener options for her (she's pre-diabetic and dragging her feet on changing her in-grained habits). I'd be open to trying new to me spices! We use paprika often and love peppercorns for freshly ground pepper!

Spring Cleaning Swap 2023

Jars:   I would also take jammy, pickled offerings if they just so happen to come in jars.  70s Fabric:  If it's brigher side, sure.  I could makes some bags out of that.    * Any use for embroidery floss? Not unless you have a beginner kit.  I'd love to try embroidery.   * Or seed beeds?I might be able to use a few here or there. * Or seed seeds? Absolutely, yes!  Just no nightshades because I can't eat them. * Feelings on comic books? Enjoy, especially Dark Horse and darker comics.  I do love a good graphic novel as well. * Same question, but poetry books? Please! * I recently pared my gaming setup down to a PS5, but I still have a ton of PS1-4 games kicking around. Are there any genres/titles you'd be interested in? Any you could pass my way, my husband would love.   * What size jigsaw puzzle would you like? 300, 500, 1000 pieces? No thanks.  With active kitties, nothing stays on any surface and puzzle pieces are fodder for cat soccer. * Tarot cards? Yay or nay? Meh? Sure! * Music? Digital? CDs? What genre? CDs, sure!  World music might be fun, but I'm heavy into industrial, alternative, new wave, bat cave, synthpop, aggrotech, metal.  Just no country or worship music, please. * How about DVDs? Anyone still watch any of those? Yes, I'm down for DVDs. * Unused notebooks? Sure!  I take notes while I'm teaching on notepads, so those are quite useful.
* Do you like LUSH? Favorite scents? I do, just not the candy-scented Lush stuff. * Do you bake? Would you be interested in sprinkles or any cake/cupcake decorating stuff? I bake a little.  I'd be interested in molds, perhaps.
* Would you be interested in receiving a scarf? Any color preference? No thank you, unless it's gothy like spiders or skulls.
* Would you be interested in receiving a hat? Any style or color preference? Black and/or gothy.
* Purse? I have a million purses and bags that I need to donate because I’ll never use them again! No thank you.  I have far too many myself.   New Question- OCYL?  Any favorites?  Sure!  I am the author of ascentaday on Wordpress, so anything you send me to from other scent retailers would be absolutely honored and appreciated.     Incense?  Any favorite scent types?  I can do stick or resin, but I prefer resin for inclusions in other things I make.  I love the traditional scents like frankincense, resin, and myrrh, but I'm very open. I don't have any dragon's blood, which I would really like.     Any chance that you are a fan of murder mystery/escape rooms in a box? Or does this sound like something you might like to try? I'd love to try to see if I do like them! We're looking to expand our collection for game nights.  I have no idea, but I would certainly love to try it.  I miss my RPG and immersive games I used to play from the before times.   What are your feelings about booze, both my moonshine whiskey infusions or other interesting things that I have a lot of and bottles to share? I would be interested in sampling them, sure.   Matcha?  Yes, omg, yes!     On a scale of 1-10, how "gothy/goth-adjacent" are you?   My husband would say a 10/uber goth, but I think I'm a 9.  I wear black clothing with bats, coffins, castles, and other creepy things. I idolize Elvira and Vampira.  I adore goth/industrial/etc. music and frequently attend concerts and go clubbing at the local goth club (and have done so since I was a baby bat  in the 90s).  I swing between Victorian, Fetish, Aristocrat, Romantic, Rivet, Cabaret, and Corp goth when I do go out. I did have a Gothic Lolita phase in my 20s and sometimes step out in that for high tea.  However, I generally revert to wearing cozy black jumpers (with gothic themes) and black pants, but I will wear purple and oxblood, and potentially jeans if I'm just working around the house.  I just don't have the spoons to do my makeup and hair all the time.  If I did, I would.

POTENTIAL Veils and Mists: will update with TAL review once I get ahold of it

You know when you look back on something you've done, or a way you've behaved, and you just want to disappear and hope nobody ever thinks of you again? You know when you read articles about toxic people and you're like... "Wait, I think *I'm* the toxic person. The call has been coming from inside the house this whole time!"   ...perhaps it's just me. Either I have overactive guilt/shame reflexes, or I just do crappy/embarrassing things more often than most people, or maybe both. Who can say! In 20 years I'll probably have enough perspective to tell the difference. But right now, I'm pretty sure I've done the wrong thing. Again.   I'm still working on finding solutions to the behaviours in myself that I want to change. That's an ongoing process, and it feels sometimes like it's just a sequence of falling on my face again - and again - and again - and irritating, aggravating, or hurting any number of people in the process. I do look at myself now and see that I am miles ahead of where I was five years ago, which is good. But in the interim -- sometimes I just want people not to think about me, or talk about me, or feel any type of way about me at all. I don't like being the subject of gossip, and I don't like the idea that my behaviour could get someone else down. In those moments, I just want to draw a veil over myself, separating me from the rest of the world. Giving me a little peace and respite from other people's thoughts and feelings, and giving other people a little respite from the effects and consequences of my behaviour.    That, I think, is a good place for Veils and Mists to come in. I'd never thought about it as a TAL I'd want to have in my life, but increasingly it feels useful or even necessary to me. I'm not sure how I'd judge its effectiveness because that would require proving a negative, and an impossible one at that -- "Prove other people HAVEN'T been privately gossiping about me or feeling bad about things I said or did!" Nevertheless, I'd like to be able to send that energy out into the world, with some serious oomph behind it courtesy of the Lab. I'll try and get my hands on a bottle and update this entry if/as events warrant.

These two novels — The Button Field by Gail Husch (2014) and Killingly by Katharine Beutner (2023) — were inspired by the same real-life unsolved mystery, the disappearance of student Bertha Mellish from Mount Holyoke College in 1897. I found The Button Field to be haunting, and now I’m looking forward to reading Killingly. ALT
