Vanilla and Tobacco Flower.

I had to get this because I love vanilla and tobacco together, and was curious if the tobacco flower would be the same as the "creamy" tobacco note in Vision of the Courtesan or To a Wreath of Snow (white tobacco?). It isn't, sadly (or at least it doesn't seem to be, to my nose), but it's still lovely. It reminds me more of Kiseru, a warm vanilla with a more earthy, dry tobacco note. Definitely a keeper for me regardless.

Yay, I'm not the first to review! Thank you to feyofthefellwood for going first, lol. Yes, I agree, it's not creamy or sweet, it's earthy.

 

What I expected: "sweet vanilla tobacco flower".

What I got (Wet): Strong blast of patchouli

 

My partner hates patchouli with the fiery passion born of some long-buried childhood trauma. We have a pact that I won't buy anything with patchouli. It takes about 10 minutes for the patch to burn off and let anything else out to play.  

 

Over about 30 minutes, it mellows into a sweetish vanilla-ish fruity flower. 

 

Then, for the next two hours I keep catching whiffs of something exotically beautiful and thinking, "oh, what is that?" and realizing it's me. If I put my nose to my wrist, I'm still able to smell the earthy/rooty scent, but what projects beyond my skin is completely different and beautiful. 

 

I'll give it some time to age and hope it continues to develop. Maybe leave the cap off the bottle to let it air out?

In the bottle, a very beautiful, waxy group of white petals covered in what smells like wet powdered vanilla sugar. When first applied to my skin, the vanilla becomes what I can only describe as "commercial" and somewhat synthetic in tone. I started to be concerned that there was a brewing war between my skin chemistry and the fragrance, but it settled nicely over the next 20 minutes into something much more wearable. Does this share DNA with Dahlia? I will have to do a side-by-side comparison and report back. I did not get anything like patchouli but feel like there may be a faint hint of a dried tobacco leaf in there with the tobacco flower.

 

This feels romantic, and would make an intoxicating bedtime scent either on it's own or layered with a skin musk for even more interpersonal appeal. Medium projection and longevity at about 5-6 hours of solid wear before it starts to become less detectable. I will definitely pickup a backup bottle as I think it will be even more beautiful when aged.

This doesn't smell like just the two notes in this duet, to my nose.

 

When I first sniffed it in the decant, I wondered if this were just he Dregs of a Bottle of Vanilla Extract (Discovered in the Mud) plus tobacco. Then I sniffed them side by side and realized that Dregs is much cooler and features a different dirt note, and there's a bit of spice to this one that's not in Dregs.

 

But nevertheless, I get dirt, a sheer vanilla, and a dry tobacco note. My partner also thought that I smelled like dirt when I wore this, and when I layered a drop of this with Black Butterfly Moon, I mostly got the dirt and sheer vanilla floating over the blackberry-tinged purple flowers of that lunacy scent.

 

If you're here for a vanilla and tobacco flower duet in the vein of Pediophobia, or Zorya P,  you're going to be disappointed.

 

That's what I was hoping for, so I don't think I'll be keeping the decant.
