doomsday_disco Report post Posted April 11, 2024 Goddess of phantoms and of shadowy play, whose drowsy pow’r divides the nat’ral day: ink-black opoponax absolute, glittering amber, caramelized oud, black styrax, and Oman frankincense.
patina Report post Posted May 7, 2024 (edited) Immediately in the bottle, I think of ginger. Fresh, not very spicy ginger. Then a liquid amber comes out. These resins meld together so well I can't really pick them out, though. Sweet, maybe a little baby powder in there but mostly liquid resin. This makes me think Byzantine, even though the amber is not the super bright gold you'd associate with the era. Dusky soft blue-black and dull pallid gold. DiZZysTARdust Report post Posted May 13, 2024 (edited) this is only two days rested so this may have an impact. as an avid frankincense lover i was very excited to purchase this. in the bottle i get a hint of frankincense and a lot of a cola like note i usually associate with labdanum. i’m guessing this could be part of the amber. freshly on and into the drydown this is all about the syrupy black amber. i feel like the other notes are contributing to the amber to support it rather than coming through on their own. i don’t get much oud at this point for those worried about that. it’s not too powdery on me and i usually will amp powdery aspects. all about the amber for now, but i’m looking forward to retesting in the future and seeing how this ages. ETA 7/18/24***this has been resting for a few months and i’m retesting tonight. the cola quality is very toned down now, but still present in the background, turning this into gorgeous slinky black amber resins. throw is on the lower side but i can’t stop huffing it. great scent for getting close occasions. it all blends really well. i don’t get the oudh per se but this does have a caramelized resins aspect. roseus Report post Posted June 6, 2024 In the imp I'm finding this very light and sweet, and there's a sort of bubblegum note - maybe lotus? On my skin I get a sort of fizzy spicy cola note, which I get with some resins. It almost makes me think of the fizzy champagne note, but softer. The base gets richer as it dries but it is very much a gorgeous glittering resin scent. This is worthy of a bottle upgrade for me!
ghoulnextdoor Report post Posted June 12, 2024 Imagine all the forbidden nocturnal mystery evoked by rich, smoky, brooding resins such as opoponax, oud, and frankincense, but soften it with sweetness and snuggles, make it a kinder, gentler darkness. Brown sugar candle glow, amber lantern light, the honeyed hum of a streetlamp– a companionable luminescence for the midnight soul, and a comforting balm for night owls, moonlighters, and after-dark enthusiasts. sudenmorsian Report post Posted July 9, 2024 (edited) This is gorgeous. Opening the bottle I got a strong whiff of incense smoke but the smokiness fades quickly. Wet on my skin there's something dark and surprising, licorice-like smell, that seems to be the resins, I guess mostly black styrax, until sweet caramelized oud is getting stronger and taming it a bit during drydown. There's definitely some kind of funny fizzy-like note that I think it's from resins. Sometimes labdanum gives similar fizzy vibes but labdanum isn't listed. Dry it's mostly glowing amber, sweet oud and dark resins. I have no words to describe how beautiful this is. Nyx, Night Goddess, she is divine. frizzlechicken Report post Posted September 10, 2024 This is a great example of glowing reviews here swaying me to make a purchase! I had saved this when it first came out as a possibility because I usually like Amber blends, but with so many things vying for my attention I may have missed out. This is a gorgeous scent, full of rich resinous Amber. Like many others have said, there’s a Labdanum-esque undertone as well, which I love. The carmelized oud is the same kind in recent blends like Gingerbread Oud; it’s spicy without being too much. This is a great scent both when freshly applied and having faded after a few hours. Thanks everyone for having posted reviews so that I didn’t miss out!
LavenderCoffee Report post Posted March 1 I am a bad rabbit for loving this and failing to review it but I'm not sure what I can add. It's fun and fancy like a delicious forbidden soda made of stars. A whole inky sparkly galaxy through a twisty straw.
VetchVesper Report post Posted September 26 There's an immediate, cool, scintillating quality to this from the amber that is reminiscent of twinkling stars. It's very close, if not the same, as the lab's champagne note. It floats above the sweet, syrupiness of the opoponax, rich, but not heavy. Opoponax often smells treacley and dark to me, but this smells more like a golden myrrh. The two notes stay separate through the dry down, creating an interesting tension in the fragrance. I never get any p'oud or anything woody, though I do get a caramel/vanilla tone from the opoponax. Perhaps the frankincense is the bright lemony kind, and it's blending with the amber? Basically, this smells like an unusual blend of good myrrh and champagne to me. I'd prefer something darker and heavier for my night goddess, but for those who don't like heavy blends, this would probably be just rich enough to please and gentle enough not to scare them off. I'm dithering on whether or not to keep the imp, as it's very unique, but I don't LOVE it. If you like the champagne note though, this might be a sleeper hit.
