Frimp from the Lab, 2022!

Wet, it seems more complex - rum? sea salt? spices? - but dry I'm mostly getting cinnamon spice; that part's just getting louder and louder. There's a trace of seaspray salt if I really think about it, but primarily it's a warm spice blend. Surprisingly cozy and nice for a pirate haven scent! :D

Wet: Hmmm, this is sharply masculine. It smells like men's aftershave. It's woody with a very prominent salty/aquatic background. It reminds me of Bath and Body Works' men's ocean scent. As it begins to dry down a bit, I start smelling a hint of flourmand sweetness. It has nice throw on my skin--better than most scents from this house.
Dry: Oh wow! This is changing FAST! Now (10 min in), the aquatic/ocean spray is deep in the background. Instead, it is very sweet, slightly boozy bubblegum but with a bit of warm spice (woody, even). Sadly, at the 30 minute mark, it starts being a bit soapy--like spicy aftershave and soap suds. After another 5 minutes, the soapiness progresses from suds to full detergent. The sweet spinicess is still in the background, but the soap smell is becoming overpowering. I gave it another 15 minutes, but had to scrub it :( Which is too bad, because I was really into that boozy bubblegum ocean spray smell.

As soon as I opened the imp, I thought to myself, "Wow, this smells like brine." I couldn't even imagine before what salt would smell like, but this definitely smells like salt. The wood comes out later, as well as the perfume note, but the salt never leaves. I'm very impressed.

I do not know how I could possibly add anything  of value to the aforementioned reviews, however I will say that Port Royale will be my signature scent for the Spring and Summer.
The opening of Port Royale is clean and cheerful. From a blind sniff (not reading the scent  notes) I smell fresh waves breaking on a Caribbean island. It develops slightly masculine as it sails into Bay Rum cologne territory.
The fresh wet scent is my favorite part of this.

~~frimp review~~

as a pirate and sea shanty lover, this and wellerman have caught my attention. this is an exciting frimp to get to test the waters of piratey smells.

on immediately fresh, it is very masculine. very woody and slightly salty. it morphs pretty quickly to spicy (kind of like those christmassy pinecones from craft stores) that I rather like. the wood is also still present. spicy and woody right now.

now, after about half an hour,  it has stayed mainly the same. spicy and woody and masculine. it's very nice and stays true to the inspiration

This is an old, old imp one where the white label has darkened to tan. And this still holds its own! Sometimes with older imps, in the vial, it will smell older, not as intense, but a skin test reveals it's true self after a while.

Salty woods, with some spice. More woods than Mary Read, but in that vein. It does bring to mind an old salty inn where you clinkedy-clink your tankards with a bunch of ruffians. Very nice! Maybe a sandalwood in here, but I'm not sure. Not perfumey, very gender neutral.
