frizzlechicken Report post Posted March 19 This was a blind bottle purchase that I was 99% sure I'd love, and I do. It's all ruby chocolate and red musk and berries. If you like those notes you will love this. It's great. ❤️
bheansidhe Report post Posted April 9 I've never had it, so I'm still puzzled by what "ruby chocolate" is supposed to smell like (in perfume, and in life). What I get here are distinctly white-chocolate cocoa butter notes overlaid with pops of tart-sweet red fruit, a red musk, and a gentle balsam-and-moss fougere. I suppose the last note could be leather if I looked at it sideways, but it's more of a general moss perfume base note. There's a tiny drizzle of floral sugar-syrup after a while, but I wouldn't call it a floral perfume; it's more like a drip of floral-infused syrup topping the scent stack. The dominant notes are the ruby chocolate, berries, and musk. The drydown is unfortunately cloying on me, as with Millennial Pink. My usual chocolate chemistry fail. Leopard403 Report post Posted April 19 I bought a decant of this because I, too, am confused by the idea of ruby chocolate. Smelling this scent does not create any clarity whatsoever. Sniffing from the decant I smelled something cocoa-based, but that is not true on my skin, even on first application. I’m in my red musk era and that tends to drown out other notes, but I’m not getting that clarion call here, either. I don’t know, this kind of smells like sweetened red wine? Sangria sans overt fruit? I actually quite like it, but I can’t make any damn sense of it. In some way it is familiar; it reminds me a bit of Blood Countess, which I adore. Elspethdixon Report post Posted April 21 The OG Red Rider smells like a saddle shop/tack room leather to me. In the imp/Wet: Bright and fruity sweet ruby chocolate. I am actually familiar with ruby chocolate (via the ruby chocolate dipped ice cream bars Magnum used to briefly make back in 2020) and this is definitely ruby chocolate rather than milk chocolate: it’s like a mixture of white chocolate and milk chocolate with a tart, fruity edge to it. Freshly applied: I don’t get the leather until it’s on my skin, and it’s a much softer leather than I remember from regular Red Rider - maybe the influence of the sugar-sweet ruby chocolate. This one is predominantly ruby chocolate/red musk/berries whereas Red Rider is predominantly moss/berries/leather. Fifteen minutes in: ruby fruit! One hour in: still a rich, fruity ruby chocolate, with several inches of throw.
