Just had to "big same" this sentiment, but for me it's because I don't usually like lilac in perfume. And I also didn't expect it to go well with Snake Oil, but I wanted to try it anyway. And now of course I feel silly for doubting because this may be the only lilac perfume that works for me! I dabbed some behind my ears this morning, and it was slightly more lilac for the first hour or so, but the rest of the day it was lilac fully saturated with our beloved "deep, rich, earthy notes swirled with vegetal musks, sugared vanilla bean, and dark spices." Just gorgeous, and lasted all day. Also now that it's fully rested, it's reading much less like a living lilac/face in the lilac bush scent, even earlier in the wear, which is good for me, because I like smelling living lilacs, just not in perfume for some reason.

Boney Moon: Piñon and Blackened Lavender
LavenderCoffee replied to doomsday_disco's topic in Duets & Menage A Trois
I was determined to be more stubborn than this bottle and I WON, lol. Took a full month for it to settle in and it's worth it, imo, but I'll grant it was really rather overwhelming at first. I'm getting lavender tinted pinon incense, like I was hoping for (&like marared mentioned above). It's kindof a rugged lavender vibe, like driving through the pine forests in the southwest, but there's also a stick of lavender incense burning somewhere. I really like it.- 4 replies

Ok I am on the hype train, I really love this. Excellent balance of the notes, not too dank on the patch side and not too sweet/too vanilla. There is a gentle earthy sweetness to the blend, but nothing like Silky Bat, for example. The hemp I think helps ground the notes and maybe tames the patch, it's not reminding me of the lab's cannabis at all. I thought I could not hang (sorry) with the hemp in Hanging Johnny from the Fire Down Below collection, but now I suppose it was just the interplay of notes in that particular blend. Anyway this is perfect. It has the perfect amount of throw, in that I feel like I'm wearing the scent and the scent is not wearing me. Magnetic, gender neutral, lasts and lasts.

It do indeed smell hazy! For me this lives in a violet sandalwood zone, and while the jasmine peeks through the haze to say hello, it does not take over at any point. I'm kindof into it but it's fairly quiet on my skin.

I just recently got into my imp of black rider before the lupers dropped so I was hype about this one. The OG lists opoponax and this one has sweet myrrh, but I enjoy myrrh, not to mention chocolate, so it seemed like a win/win! There are choco-blobbies in the oil so I agitated it a bit, but my skin makes this a very fuzzy amber myrrrrrh party anyway, to the point that I can't find much chocolate and only a distant backdrop of leather. I'm not mad about it, it's just not what I expected.

This seems true to the description in that it is primarily a vanilla scent accented with blackcurrant and tobacco. The vanilla sandalwood layers a wispy, dry aspect over the rich vanilla cream, and they don't quite combine with each other, creating the effect of a shifting, living scent. It's not unpleasant either, just one of those "smells like a person" scents that can be quite alluring if it works for you.

This reminds me a little bit of Bronze Dildo, even though there are no notes in common, just by the virtue of somehow smelling truly ancient and/or archaeological, thanks to the metallic components and natural wax. But it's also a perfect backdrop for the narcissus/rosewater/oud. I love narcissus anyway but this is such a striking composition. The dates don't stand out much to me and it's a pretty oud, don't be scared!

This is really gorgeous! That magic combo of amber/clove/oud I've enjoyed in Sinister Restlessness and Phenomena of Witchcraft but this one has patchouli instead of vetiver and lots of lovely accent notes. The lemon pops out especially but goes well with hay and juniper. Feels more foresty than animalic but it's definitely got a good bit of spirit!

Couple Engaged in Intimate Acts as the Man Pours Tea
LavenderCoffee replied to doomsday_disco's topic in Lupercalia
First time I tested this it came across as primarily jasmine rice, but trying it again I'm getting more of the tea and the yuzu. The smoky vanilla comes forward in the drydown. It's exquisite.- 7 replies

Just exactly as it says: soft lemon sweetened by beeswax with wisps of smoke! So lovely.

Can't resist a rose flourmand and this one is a delight! From the burst of vividly realistic rose petals at application, through the pale milky sweet drink straight into the yummy starchy pearls, it's joyful pink and green perfection, and very wearable.

I am a bad rabbit for loving this and failing to review it but I'm not sure what I can add. It's fun and fancy like a delicious forbidden soda made of stars. A whole inky sparkly galaxy through a twisty straw.

Got a tester of this and it works better for me than the perfume oil. My skin amps the tobacco flower in the oil and I'm not tracking hardly any in the hair gloss. And the lavender seems a touch sweeter to me, but it's possible that's a function of the lighter tobacco flower.

I could swear I had tested this at some point, and maybe had a bad time with the wine note. But I got a fresh frimp from the lab this week and I feel like I'm smelling it for the first time! The wine has much more of a berry component to it than I recall, or perhaps my skin chemistry has changed, but either way I'm into it! A darkly delicious romantic interpretation of rose.

FYI: This oil needs to be rolled/gently shaken, there is about a 2/3 majority of murk that separates from the other components, at least in my bottle. Once it is blended, the oil is quite dark, a reddish chocolate sort of color that may stain clothing/leave an evident tint on skin. The grave soil and coffin wood are quite prominent in the early phase of wear. I'm reminded of the dusty, dry patchouli of Die Pest auf der Treppe, but this note is decidedly darker and woodier. The grave soil is vivid, damp, unmistakable. As it wears a bit of softness emerges, even a slight sweetness. The coffin wood becomes more comfortable lined with this satin, a well kept grave with nary a splinter in sight! It really treads the line neatly between something that could be wholly unpleasant and something that fails to capture the undead vibes. The moderate throw is dominated by earthy wood through the first hour or so, at which point more of a musky base and a bit of the faded cologne seem to emerge. It's subtly magnetic in an uneasy way: I really enjoy wearing it and it is also perfectly creepy. For all the murk that was in the bottle, there is no overpowering red or blood musk to my nose. This three days rested specimen is already nicely balanced, so I am looking forward to how it will mature. A delightful addition to any goth/vampire collection, and recommended for admirers of the lab's grave soil note.
