Black licorice champagne!!! What a time to be alive? undead? whatever. 

 

I love the fizzyness of all the BPAL champagne perfumes (champagne & party hats remains an eternal favorite) so if you like that as well you will be happy with this one. The black licorice is of course the point but it’s not overpowering at all (I also love black licorice in real life). I’m not picking up any leather on my skin but I can smell it in the bottle. It definitely has a body heat note happening as well. Really interesting and evocative to this particular scene in this episode.

I am an absolute sucker for licorice. That’s here, the plum champagne is here, but sadly champagne continues to be just sliiightly soapy ginger on me. The labdanum and resin does a nice base though. The leather here is present as something a little smoky in the back. Solid 4/5 maybe higher 

 

Edit: throw is moderate, plummy and gorgeous. It’s incredibly hot and sweltering so that probably makes the throw more intense than it would be otherwise

The gothest plum to ever exist. Purple so deep it reads black until light hits it, everything reduced to bloom and shadow like silent film reduced a face to kohl and cheekbone. Dark-sweet at the flesh and a low bitter anise hum near the stone, wet-eyed, glossolalia. Bruises decoratively, in mottled patches, like artfully smudged eyeliner, like careless lovebites, like ligature on a lovely corpse.

if you know and love the BPAL champagne, that fizzy delight arrives up front with a nice accent of plum. the licorice really comes out on the skin, and then you have plum accented licorice champagne, which was not a thing I knew I needed until right now. and thanks to the lovely dark resins holding everything down, it won't disappear into the night. I don't get much in the way of leather from this personally, but it's absolutely delicious.

Considering I really don't like actual licorice, the fact that this is my favorite of the collection (so far anyway...) is pretty amusing!

 

But I knew, based on the description alone, that a perfume containing champagne, black plum and benzoin was going to be interesting.

 

In the bottle, very much a super fizzy plummy champagne, a sort of vaporous licorice cloud hovering in the background. 

 

On the skin, the champagne settles down a bit. The rich black plum seems to be the real base of it, the leather and benzoin begin to appear out of the darkness. Creeping, resinous. The licorice adds an otherworldly, herbal funk.

 

There's a sinewy sexy swagger to it all. A little scary.

 

And yet... because of the champagne, it still manages to be a lively, fun fragrance!

 A very dark, fizzy plum! This plum is gorgeous. At first I thought it was going to be too candy-like for me, it really opened with a ginger ale note but on the skin the plum totally takes over and steals the show. Amusingly, I get zero licorice at all! Just a bit of the leather in the background.

Unfortunately this smells like a holiday candle from TJmax on my skin.  It amps quickly into a sickly fruity soapy candle. Throw 5/5 / scent for me 1.5/5 not foul, just super boring and headachey
