doomsday_disco Report post Posted September 11 A glass of midnight stout, thick with black chocolate and roasted barley, its foam kissed with bitter espresso. A pale disc of buttered shortbread rests against the rim, crumbling into the inky depths. A strange eclipse of comfort and shadow: warm, crumbly biscuit and golden butter swallowed by a swirl of dark malt, molasses, and cocoa.
wilhelmscream Report post Posted October 2 A decadent swoon of buttery, malty, gooey chocolate and coffee. Wears close to the skin, so you're not going to enter a room bombastically smelling like the fanciest coffee shop. This one doesn't have the wild shifting powers of it's buddy Black Butterfly Moon. All the notes stay pretty consistent from bottle to skin, and they all settle down together in perfect harmony.
VioletChaos Report post Posted October 14 In the bottle, all the listed notes are present and accounted for in a frothy, rich, decadent mess that I am instantly smitten with. I agree with the prior post that all remain accounted for in the final drydown...I just wish it was anywhere near as strong as the warm, gooey WHOOMPH! I get from first sniff upon opening. That said, there's a way where this scent feels like a bit of a BPAL throwback to the ways Beth and Co used to do some of the olde-timey foodie scents. It doesn't remind me of any one in particular, more that sense of "This is a classic BPAL cake-rich scent!". It's very warm and cozy, and it makes me want to pull on a big sweater and cuddle up with a book. I imagine I will do just that whilst wearing this lovely daytime scent over the ensuing cold months, in fact! Medium throw and a nice base scent, I could also see layering this with either resins (to punch up the drama) or a decadent gourmand (to heighten and extend the foodie aspect). It's also a great daytime scent on its own that would be friendly in a host of environments. Yummy! 😋
theredkilt Report post Posted October 20 This a powdery cocoa stout-infused buttery biscuit. It's not buttery like Jack. It reminds me a great deal of the Cacao, Coffee Bean and Khus trio with added stout and golden butter.
doomsday_disco Report post Posted October 22 Black Fly Butter Moon is a very strong, almost toffee-like, buttery shortbread cookie scent on me. I swear there's some orange zest in these cookies even though there's no orange mentioned, because I get it very strongly, especially during the wet phase of the scent. It stays mostly about the cookies for a while, but then I was doing dishes some hours later and was hit with a blast of coffee and cocoa which was really nice. I didn't deathmatch the two, but I think this shortbread cookie might be somewhat similar to the cookies in A Little More Tea from the 2016 Lilith scents (if I ever do deathmatch the two, I'll update this post with my results). It also has the richness of Chocolate Stout Cupcake from Yules of yore. I don't think I need a whole bottle of this one, but I think I'll hang onto my decant! auraysu Report post Posted Saturday at 11:01 PM (edited) Seconding Doomsday- I swear there is some orange zest in this, and it's a nice little contrast to the buttery shortbread cookie! The 'shadow' part (dark malt, molasses, and cocoa) lurks underneath and gives the cookie some support. I want to eat my bottle.
