BPAL Madness!

Dead Leaves, Lavender Buds, and Golden Sandalwood

Recommended Posts

In the bottle, it was mostly dead leaves — but on, it’s a beautiful blend of that trampled on green and brown, almost wet dead leaves smell mixed with a gentle, floating without being fluffy lavender and sandalwood. Sometimes BPAL uses a sandalwood that is a little harsh on my skin but this blends in nicely.

I really love this one. I thought it might be too lavender for daytime use and enjoyed the thought of a sleepy dead leaves scent but this one works well for a cozy Fall day.

Leans somewhere between androgynous and soft masc without feeling like you’re wearing a gentleman’s cologne. Would pair nicely with a rainy day doing laundry and listening to lofi.

I can't find any other BPALs in my collection that have "golden sandalwood" specifically, so after three skin tests I might have to admit this is not a good sandalwood for me. I usually enjoy the dead leaves and I love lavender, but this is ALLLL sandalwood with a whiff of lavender on my skin, and the effect is more like a lavender scented soap than I would like. YMMV!

This starts off with a wonderful lavender. Fortunately, the dead leaves themselves aren't bell pepper-y or neroli-infused this time, but they do have a musty and a dry, papery quality to them, and mixed with this particular sandalwood, this somehow ends up being somewhat perfume-y and soapy on me. Wahhh.

There's a very worn-in quality to this scent. It's the golden sandalwood, I think - with a squeeze of fresh green lavender on top. It feels more generally 'herbal' to me than specifically lavender. Veers soapy on drydown in a way that reinforces 'cozy laundry' rather than being pure soap. I agree this is soft masc. My brain doesn't really recognize this scent as something to be worn as perfume, but wearing it feels like putting on a vibe.

This starts lavender-forward on me, but it doesn't take long for the sandalwood to come out. I love lavender and sandalwood together and this is another win, creating a comforting cozy blend. I agree that it doesnt feel particularly fem or masc. I think the dead leaves are there tinting it throughout wear, but they dont come forward enough to be recognizable until after a few hours of wear on me. I was suprised to find this one didn't go cologney (nor do I get anything soapy).

Instead, when all three notes come out its this really cozy fall blend that I would put on when I need some relief from anxiety or stress. I think it'll age really nicely. I only grabbed a decant of this and may be picking up more because I expect this will continue to blend into something really lovely.

Lavender blends often start out as a big blast of lavender that don’t last on my skin. But I love lavender and always hope one will stick around, so I keep trying. I get lots of lavender in the opening which is quickly supplanted by an awkward sandalwood, like the sandalwood soap in an import shop. I can barely make out the dead leaves which seems to be a recurring theme with this year’s leaf pile. This was not a good DL year for me, sadly.
