    L'Heure Verte

Oh this is lovely! I get a sort of mint plus licorice scent that must be the absinthe (I have never tried it) it’s a little green and herbal. Rose and lilac waft in and out, the burnt sugar is not too sweet. It is a little alcoholic and watery. On dry down it seems to be gorgeous opium tinged watery florals.

Flower Moon: Ti Leaf and Elizabeth Root

A little fresh from the ti leaf, a little earthy, a kind of herbal richness. This scent has a delicate aspect to it for all these strong associations, something with a lot of subtle aspects to it for my nose to get lost in, a little soft and woody/rooty. On drying it became surprisingly pretty and perfumy. Trying to layer it with Flower Moon was difficult because Ti Leaf and Elizabeth Root has this more delicate, subtle aspect to it and was drowned out by Flower Moon. When I adjusted by using less FM and more TL&ER, it seems the TL&ER increases the earthy aspect of Flower Moon. However the subtleties and specific nature of the Tea Leaf and Elizabeth Root scent were lost. I’m trying scents that aren’t what I usually like, but do not contain disliked notes. I’m so glad I got to try this because it is a smell I have never smelled before and is not really like anything I have smelled before.

    Succhiotto

Wet, this is all syrupy fig, warm and soft. I have never tried fig syrup but this smells the way Bonne Maman Fig Preserve tastes. The vanilla comes out and for an hour and a half or so I get the vanilla and fig together. The fig recedes a little and the vanilla takes over, it smells cool and sugary. Vanilla doesn’t usually work on me but this is not at all play dough-y. If I look for it I can detect a little cacao along with the vanilla. This is a light and unobtrusive scent except when first applied. i absolutely love this and am considering a back up bottle.

    Nephilim

First impression is cool/clean/herbal— I love cool scents and this one is very cool, even cold. I think it is the hyssop coming out first. Then I get cypress and lavender sweetened by the fig with hints of the other notes. I am really enjoying this, not so much as a personal scent that I would wear, but just to smell. It is complex and interesting.

    New Year, New Monkey Business

On my skin it is predominantly a tropical floral scent. The banana is prominent when first applied but once dried it is mixed down with the fig. The floral part is not big and hot-house, but very present. It is a scent for feminine mischief and emotionally feels care free and relaxed.

Beaver Moon: Yuzu & Warm Honey Drizzle

Wet it is a delicate but bright Yuzu. Dry it is more balanced, leaning more to honey. Once dry this is a light scent and I only catch little whiffs of it unless sniffing my wrists directly. This might be a good concentration for warmer weather. it’s a very pretty, soft scent (by which I mean softer than a more bracing yuzu scent like Aizen-myoo) light throw.

    LE TITS NOW

After the lavender has died down a little is it gorgeous champagne and snow on a musky background.

The Woman Clothed with the Sun and the War in Heaven

On me this opens with pomegranate wreathed in light incense. The singed frankincense and saffron are gorgeous together, at first smelling almost fizzy but settling into a beautiful emotional incense. The cherry is in the background adding richness and a little rounded sweetness. No one catching this scent on me would think “oh that’s cherry” but it is a beautiful part of the blend. I did not like this when it first arrived about six months ago, but now it is amazing and I’m so glad to have it.

    Melichrous Dragon

This is one of my favorite recent BPALs. It smells fresh, a little bit sweet, and has a bright, uplifting tone. Tea, delicate sweet honey, some lemon that mostly recedes as it dries. On my skin the apricot is underneath everything giving a roundness and sweetness but not really standing out.

    Battledore and Shuttlecock

I love this! I especially love how it smells after three hours, that worn-in comfortable dry down period. It lasts a very long time. If I were going out somewhere special I would apply it an hour before. The “milk” aspect of the peony milk makes the scent less dry and sharp than you might expect from something with this list of flowers, almost like a fruity floral without fruit. However it isn’t as gentle as milky florals like The Poinsettia Gown.

    Pomegranate Milk

Ghoulnextdoor’s review is spot on. The pomegranate note really does seem to glow and there is a sense of elegant decaying candy about the scent. This is interesting and somehow makes you want to keep smelling it even though it isn’t entirely pleasant. Very glad I got to try this but I don’t need more as the combination of tart fruit and milk doesn’t work on me as a personal fragrance.

    Things Are Fine

Goes on sharp and sour. Hinoki wood is said to have a sourness and to smell almost effervescent, at least in incense, and I think I can smell that here. The white tea is adding to the sharpness. Dry, the white sandalwood smooths everything down. There is the tiniest sweetness from falling leaves and a wisp of soft smoke. It is beautiful now— clean, bright, comforting/healing. It feels like reaching for light when things aren’t really OK.

    Witch Birds

Once dry it is Choward’s violet candies and plum over a beautiful sweet vanilla- sandalwood base. The little bit of opium darkens the scent but isn’t prominent Violet tends not to work on me, it smells chemical and broken on my skin. This is a gorgeous purple, violet-vanilla scent for someone with a different skin chemistry. If you enjoy sweet violet or think you might, check this one out.

    Cairo

Testing a rested but not aged lab imp. First applied— a glowing citrus smell like a big beautiful ball of light. Maybe some lemongrass, lemon? Along with it is a honey note and a light wine scent. Dry— light rose backed up by a little myrrh, a slinky one not a gritty one. Wafting around is a gentle dry rose and resin with a little bit of honeyed wine but I am not sure many who smell it on you will even recognize that it is wine. This is beautiful and rose lovers must try this! I don’t generally wear rose scents but will treasure the imp.

    The Coiled Serpent

Lab-fresh imp. On me it is sweeter than what others are describing. I smell the patchouli and perhaps sandalwood and cedar but there is also more than a hint of almost fruity sweetness similar to a red musk note. There might be a flower petal way down in the mix as well, perhaps champaca. Apparently with recent life cycle and dietary changes patchouli is now my friend. This is really lovely but a bit too incensy-headshoppy for my tastes.
