BPAL Madness!

Recommended Posts

Corvissa, Lady of the Yale skull – gold-plated armor and warm, sweet promises, steel striking steel, stolen glances and secret kisses.

Gleaming gold-plated armor, sharpened steel, fossilized amber, and frankincense tears.

I anticipated a similar metal accord to the ones found in the Steamworks line, Torture Queen, RPG or Witchblade scents. ⚔️ Instead Corvissa is fizzy, sparkly date paste, warm & glowy, no screechy metals, smoke, spice or leather. Shocked at how gooey this smells. I have nothing like this in my collection  Longevity 7+ hrs. Dazzling!

In the imp this reminds me a bit of my memory of The Robotic Scarab, gleaming and bright but with a fizziness. More resinous and deep on the skin, the frankincense leaning almost woody. Stunning!

Agreed with the above. Reminds me of the strangely fizzy Batty Cathedral. The amber gives this a nice base to stand on, so it's lasting better than Batty Cath did on me. Bright and fizzy,  grounded in smooth resins. Oddly refreshing and decidedly unisex. Ok throw, decent longevity. Another W for the Skull Maskerade series.

Corvissa surprised me, even though it's in line with what I should have expected from previous reviews. This is not a smooth amber with cool metallic topping. Instead, it's bright and almost cola-esque, a very different sort of 'shiny'. Very resinous, but in a way that comes across as somehow bright and sparkly? The 'fossilized amber' feeds into that impression; it feels more 'prickly' or maybe dusty than other sorts of amber and is the same as that in Troubled By Revenants from the Carmilla collection. Frankincense can be kinda weird to me, but this one isn't giving baby powder.

As far as other BPALs, this reminds me of a much-less-spicy, slightly-less-sticky-sweet version of Gnome's ginger ale.

Upd8: Wore this again, and realized that after a few hours it's quite similar to the sort of drydowns I usually get from black amber and black musk heavy blends (which, fortunately, I like); I might see how it layers with a few of those.
