    Alice's Evidence

I must preface this review by saying I'm really not one for "fall" scents. I really hate the fall, because it leads to a horrid midwest winter around here, and I DETEST winter. So anything that remotely reminds me of fall I tend to stay away from. BUT.... I really, really love this. It's the perfect Halloween scent that isn't LE. I get fall apple which is funny, since there is no apple listed in the notes (must be the plums?), a little bit of somthing grounding in the background keeping it from being too fruity, and a bit of cinnamon clovey goodness. Perfectly balanced, wonderfully "fall". I was really happy with the staying power of this one. The throw was just right. Can I see myself wearing this in June? July? Not so much. I'm just not that kind of girl. But come September, this one will be in heavy rotation.

    Snow, Glass, Apples

This is really amazing. It is very true to it's name. A coldness/icyness mixed with juicy tart Granny Smith apples. I wasn't sure I'd be a big fan of apple scents, because most of them remind me of this gift shop I used to work in that had the most horrible scented apple spice potpouri. But oh no, SGA, you have proven me wrong! It's so fresh and delicious-- a unisex scent, I would think. This will be the stuff of BPAL legend.

    Dionysia

At first, fruity with a bit of earthy-ness underneath it. A bit into the drying I smell the plum, and it hovers there for awhile. But the end, after wearing all day... oh... heavenly! I'm not a huge fan of the pachoulli or the earthy, headshoppy tones, but this may change my mind. It's a wonderful incense burning with candles smell, with a hint of sweet in the background. I actually got a lot of compliments on it, and everyone noted it smelled incensey (and good!). I'm in love. The Grindhouse ladies are making a play for my top ten list for sure!
  4. Yep, I agree with everyone else. Root beer, plus a little creamy loveliness underneath. When wet, a little bit medicinal, but in a good way. When dry a really nice vanilla sweetness with a root beer touch. But not like mass produced root beer, more like the homemade stuff you get at Ren faires and such. Really nice. And very wearable.

    Egg Nog

Creamy, sweet, and a bit boozy. It reminds me of a less sweet Egg'd Mailbox. It's really beautiful! This one faded really fast on me, so next go round I'll have to slather a bit more. More please!!

    El Dia de los Reyes

This is very cocoa and cinnamon on me. It really does smell like a spiced hot cocoa- Chocolatey, creamy and warm. The cinnamon isn't the typical stinging-get it off-burning like other cinnamon notes tend to be on me either, which is awesome. It has really nice throw, even if I don't slather. Multiple bottles, for sure!

Walk into a florist's shop, inhale deeply...

I'm a florist (among other things) and honestly Rose Red is the exact smell I got when cutting red roses for a wedding last weekend. When I got my first bottle, I opened it and immediately thought of the shop. I think it depends on what time of year, for me at least. In the spring, we have tons of hybrid lillies and bulb plants like hyacinth, which produce mega smells. Now with Christmas coming up, the shop will smell like candle wax, the hot glue pan, cedar and pine, cinnamon, carnantion, mums, and glitter spray. (Christmas for me will always be associated with the smell of glitter spray!!) I can see how Amsterdam smells a lot like it. If somehow you blended Rose Red, Amsterdam, and something with a lot of dirt, water and coldness, that would be a flower shop for me. Now I'm going to be on a mission to find that too!

    Velvet

In the imp I get the cocoa note, but when I put it on, it goes to pencil shavings and peanut butter (?).... The sandalwood takes over and pretty much runs the show from there, occasionally I get the tiniest impression of coconut.

    Crypt Queen

This is very much like Madame Moriarty on me, but with a little more raspberry and a smoke note underneath. I do get a lot of pomegranite too. Crypt Queen's pachouli is a very leafy green patchouli, not the headshoppy kind of patchouli. A nice blend of all ingredients, not too feminine or fruity but just the right amount of everything.

    Sugar Skull

Sugar Skull 2007 This is very Dorian-esque to me. I really am getting a vanilla musk, but with some brown sugar and caramel drizzled in. And maybe a waft of insence or something to keep this from going *too* sweet. It doesn't have very much throw, but it is a really nice, warm comforting scent.

    Pumpkin V (2007)

This is very citrus with spiced pumpkin. Totally the fall scent I was after. It kind of reminds me of spiced orange potpourri, but without the sweet, cloyingness that potpourri has. The pumpkin stays pretty strong in this one, and I would venture to guess the ginger is what comes across as spicy to me. It doesn't have a ton of throw, though, which is too bad, because this is lovely.

    Pumpkin IV (2007)

This is a little more pumpkin than some of the others. Although being as my skin eats pumpkin like nobody's business, it doesn't last long. At first this was all sage top note when I applied it, but now it's softened and sweetened to a drier almost grassy note. No pumpkin to be smelled, but I think some of the warmth is there. It's a lot sweeter a few hours after wearing than it was initially. It doesn't have a real strong throw, but seems to last pretty well.

    Pumpkin I (2007)

This was much more pumpkin-y on me than 2 and 3. But there was a really nice blend of fruit wafting on top, although I can't pick out any one fruit note distinctly. It's nice and warm, and really a blend I wouldn't have expected to work so well together. I should know better than to doubt Beth by now. It does go through a kind of unusual stage on me. Sniffing my skin, I don't get this, but the throw gives off a scent that reminds me somewhat of beer. Not like straight out of the bottle in a frosty mug beer, but having a party at your parents' house before you were 21, and you kind of forgot (or couldn't find everything) to clean up some of the evidence, and a couple days later your mom busts you out because she found a cup of beer behind the plant in the living room. Kind of sweet and yeasty and bready almost. It's actually a really nice comforting scent. (Not that I like my beer warm and three days old, but seriously, that's what I smelled!) The Pumpkin Patch this year has been phenomenal, I've loved every single blend, and this is no exception. Bravo, Beth!

    Marshmallow Poof

Oh wow! This smells just like marshmallows (duh, right?!). It reminds me of when we were kids, and we'd pull apart our marshallows over and over until they were the consistency of taffy, then eat them off our sticky fingers. It's sweet, creamy, and absolutly delicious! It's a white sugar, not a brown for sure. This is really awesome. I'm loving it! I'd honestly buy a gallon of this if I could!

    Pumpkin III (2007)

Initially, this one smelled like coffee. WTH? But only for a minute or two. After wearing for awhile, I'm getting a chocolate much like July's 13 (a more bitter, not milk chocolate, semi-sweetened, maybe), with a little bit of cakey-ness, a tiny bit of carmel, with the warmth of pumpkin underneath, but not the pumpkin note itself. Apparently my skin eats the pumpkin note, just like the other pumpkins. The chocolate really amps on me, and kinda takes over. Okay, wait a second. Just re-read the notes, and this makes much more sense now. The cakey-ness is the cream (which totally makes sense since it did the wonky thing for awhile that my skin does with cream/milk notes sometimes). The pomegranite is kind of the top note, making the chocolate sort of bittersweet. Huh! Interesting!

    Pumpkin II (2007)

This is a warm, comforting pumpkin, not like Jack, which is butter pumpkin of death on me. Initally when I put it on, I couldn't distinguish what the sweet smell I was getting was, but it overpowered all the pumpkin-ness. Pumpkin did come to the forefront for awhile, but was ballanced nicely with the other notes. Now after a few hours of wearing it, my skin amped the carnation way up, so I'm getting a warm carnation scent with undertones of faint pumpkin. But mainly carnation, just warmed up a tad. The only way I can describe it really is that it's very pleasant.

    The Perilous Parlor

This is a very light, sweet vanilla and pear. But like others have said, baked pear. Right after applying it is a sharp pear, but quickly dries down to a more mellow pear. Vanilla and pear take turns playing follow the leader throughout the day. At a point, I thought the vanilla may be the same as in Snake Oil, but I'm an expert by no means. It's creamy, yet not too sweet or cloying. It lasts nicely through the day, but I don't think it has a ton of throw.

    All Souls

All Souls 2007 This is quite a morpher on me. It starts out very sweet, and very cake. Not so much currant, or insense. After wearing for awhile, my skin amps the insence to almost a single note degree. Very "burn-y" and sweet, kind of this music/insence store we used to go to when I was in high school. It's got incredible throw on me as well. I keep wondering what's burning, and then realize it's All Souls.

    Samhain

2007 Version~ This is kind of brown sugary almost maple syrupy to me. With hints of spice, and a little smoke. It is pretty sweet, and has a nice throw to it. Completly evocative of fall.

    October

Wow, this is VERY different. It starts of green, and sharp. Kinda grassy almost. It's dried down to a rather masculine scent (bet this would be awesome on a guy), kind of cologne-y, with a hint of a chill and a bit of darkness. Deffinitly some autumn leaves as well. A very unique and complex blend.

    Singing Moon

This starts out very floral, but dries to a lovely herbal with a slight sweetness and greenness to it. I can't pick out individual notes, but it's really lovely.

    Dana O'Shee

In the imp this reminds me exactly of Caswell Massey's Cold Cream Soap- very almondy and delicious. As I wear it, I am reminded of dry, boxed cake mix mixed with Caswell Massey's soap! This is beautiful and light and feminine. The throw isn't tremendous, but I can still smell it 8 hours after I put it on, even without sniffing my wrists. Nothing turns wonky or sour, as most milk oils do on me. So glad, because this is absolutly gorgeous. NEED a big bottle of this one!

    The Sportive Sun

If Supportive Sun were a party, it would go a little something like this... Heliotrope, Amber, Almond Flower, Fragapani, Cedar, and Calamus were all present at a proper party in some nice setting, an upscale manor perhaps. It's a beautiful sunny afternoon, mid of summer. Everyone says their how-do-you do's, and start conversing among themselves, and proper adults do. Amber will not use her indoor voice. At all. Now, Cedar, Heliotrope and Fragapani are trying to speak amongst themselves, but are drowned out mainly by Amber's refusal to give up being the center of attention. Calamus and Almond Flower have given up speaking all together, and are sitting in chairs in the corner of the room with their hands over their ears. Finally they completly abandon the party, with Cedar, Heliotrope, and Fragapani not far behind them. All that's left is Amber. In a lovely entertaining room in a manor, all by herself. Chattering loudly. I don't dislike it, but amber amps up something fierce on my skin. I'll have to try this again, but it's not one of my favorites. Amber is too noisy.

    Leo 2007

Ah! Why didn't I get two bottles?! This apparently has the one amber I can wear in it. The amber isn't overpowering or obtrusive like it usually is on my skin. I also get a hint of what smells like carnation (but I know it isn't). Now after it's been on for 12+ hours it's sweet, but not overly sweet. The tone I get from this is a sparkling warm orange (the color, not the fruit), like a summer day in the sun. Beautiful.

    Squirting Cucumber

Wow. I haven't reviewed this yet?! What's the matter with me? In short, this is my favorite BPAL ever. It's green, crisp, and clean. I get a lovely grass note that blends down to the most accurate cucumber note I've ever smelled. This isn't just my favorite BPAL oil, it's my favorite perfume ever. Can't say enough about how great this is.
