    Al Azif

Wet this is soft and powdery- musk? and maybe amber? When first on this is soft and almost watery with a very faint hint of spice. After a few minutes it almost smells like gardenia? I don't smell any incense at all This becomes a sweet and warm scent. I think there's amber in it. It really doesn't smell like incense to me which is what I was hoping for. It does't feel dark or sinister either Oh well, I guess this one's not for me.

    Hairy Toad Lily

Wet this is very sweet and bright, fruity and floral. When first on this is a strong and sweet floral. It's a familiar floral- almost like that Jean Nate perfume they sell at the drugstore. After several minutes this softens and becomes soapy. After about an hour this is very soft and faint. On the drydown this has an almost grape scent to it. This is nice but not one that I'll need more of.

    Crypt Queen

Wet this is fruity, sweet and floral. Strong and powerful. When first on it's strong sweet pomegranate and berry mixed with musk. There's a hit of pepper too. After a couple of minutes a soft rose note starts to come out. After about a half hour it's softened quite a bit and is a lovely floral blend with some earthiness in the background. The fruit has disappeared and there's a lovely creaminess now. On the drydown it's a soft rose and pepper mix. This is a spectacular blend! Complex and mysterious- lovely and just what I hoped it would be!

    The Ghastly Garden

Wet this is a storng, heady floral. Sugary and wet. When first on this is a fresh, clean floral- maybe hyacinth. It feels like spingtime. This doesn't change much on me. This is a very well blended aquatic/damp floral. It reminds me a bit of Black Moon- like a floral version of it and much sharper. This is okay but is too strongly floral for me. Sadly it also reminds me a bit of bathroom air freshener

    Christmas Rose

Wet this is a sweet aquatic floral. When first on this smells the same. This is bright and crisp and very strongly floral. After several minutes a slight creamy undertone develops. This is very similar to Snow Moon and Snow Bunny but a little more floral and creamy, especially on the dry down. Nice but not one I need a full bottle of.

    Pirate Moon

Wet this is a mix of floral notes, musk and a bit soapy too. When first on this is ocean breeze and lightly floral with some warmth in the background. There's also a slight salt/wood note. After a few minutes it becomes sweet and fruity. After a few hours it's become a soft floral with a hint of earthiness in the background. This is a lovely blend and is much softer than I had expected it to be. I think this is going to age very well. Thank you so much Beth and Ted for allowing us to share in your wedding celebration. I will always treasure this special blend and it's companion The Phoenix

    Shub-Niggurath

Wet this is ginger and spice like gingerbread cookie dough- yum! When first on it's the same but much shaper and spicier. After several minutes it starts to soften and sweeten. This mellows out into a wondeful warm, earthy incense and ginger blend. Ginger doesn't always work on me (which is why I resisted this when it was first released as an L.E.) but in this blend it's perfect. This is a very comforting and sexy scent. I can see why this is a BPAL classic! I'll need a bottle of this at some point.

    Pumpkin IV (2007)

Wet this is very buttery pumpkin (more so than in other pumpkin blends I've tried) and there's a hint of sweet spice. When first on it's the same buttery pumpkin note mixed with some sweet and herbal notes. After a couple hours the pumpkin has softened, the buttery note is gone and now it's almost "dusty" smelling. This dries down to a very soft and lightly sweet pumpkin mixed with herbal notes. Nice.

    The Fruit of Paradise

Wet this is sweet pomegranate. When first on it's very strange- smells almost like celery salt?? along with a buttery, nutty note and the pomegranate underneath. This softens very quickly. This doesn't change much more on me. This is a nice full bodied pomegranate blend, not as sweet as Persephone. Very nice.

    Midwinter's Eve

2007 version: Wet this is sweet fruit- berries and melon, sorf of like canatlope or maybe lotus/bubblegum. When first on this is much darker but still sweet with some hints of pine or evergreens. After a few minutes it softens and becomes more herbal. After a couple of hours this is a soft floral and fruity blend. Quite nice. I'll enjoy using the imp.

    Fruitcake

Wet this is very sweet. Almond mixed with marichino cherries and a big dose of booze. Yes- this really smells like fruitcake in perfume form When first on- wow! Pure fruitcake. Candied fruit mixed with baking spices- mainly cinnamon I think. I can really smell those red, yellow and green candied fruit bits. This is much softer than in the wet stage. This becomes quite soft as it dries down and remains as mainly the smell of cake and spices (especially brown sugar). The fruit and boozy notes are far in the background now. This is a very cozy scent and is much more wearable than I thought it would be. What a lovely unexpected treat! I'll enjoy wearing this druing the holiday season. Thank you Labbies!
  12. Hmm...well I think the "rose" that you are smelling in Midnight Mass is probably myrrh. Myrrh has a sweetness to it that could maybe smell floral to you (as we know, everyone's nose is different). Rose Red is a very crisp, true rose to me. It's got a definite "chilly" tone to it too. Some people describe it like LadyMedb has as roses from the florists cold fridge. Peacock Queen is warmer and softer to me. London is sweeter than both and sharper. It smells like tea roses in a garden to me. I think you might like Peacock Queen a tad more than Rose Red because it's a bit softer and warmer. I agree that you might have to try them both though. (heh- I guess that's not very helpful ) But hey, if you get them both and only like one, you'll have no problem swapping or selling the other one

    The Death of Autumn

Wet there's a sharp hit of oud with something warm underneath- amber maybe. When first on this is oud and something sharp and sweet. There's also an earthiness to it. After a couple minutes a smokiness comes through. After a half hour it's become a very perfumey blend with hints of creamy, earthy notes in the background. This becomes an earthy/floral mix- almost like Queen of Clubs at times but lighter and less fruity. Very nice!

    October

Wet this is sharp, very perfumey and a bit floral. When first on it's faintly citrus and that strong perfume note. After several minutes a cedar note develops but it's not the bad "pencil shavings" on me that cedar sometimes turns into. I think this might be the sap note. This softens quite a bit into a warm, woody blend. It's nice but not what I was hoping it would be based on the description

    Strangler Fig

Wet this is fresh fig. Earthy, green and a bit sharp. When first on this is fig mixed with a sharp dirt/cedar/pencil shavings note- very earthy. After about an hour this softens quite a bit. This doesn't change much more on me. This is really nice! Like a single note fig. If you like fig, this is a definite must try!

    Scent for Halloween?

Today I finally went to see the exhibit Tutankhamun and the Golden Age of the Pharoahs I wore Bastet and it really added to the overall atmosphere. I felt like I was walking in ancient temples. Then of course I realized that it would be really cool if the Trading Post came out with Egyptian themed storage boxes. The Egyptians sure had some really cool perfume and cosmetic storage containers!
  17. I'll also recommend Pentitence and Midnight Mass. They are both heavy on the incense too but I that. I also highly recommend Athens: "A reformulation and modernization of a true Classical Greek perfume, myrrhine: voluptuous myrrh, golden honey, red wine, and sweet flowers." Not sure if you like florals or sweet blends but this one is a very cozy myrrh blend on me (I happen to really like honey and florals notes though).

What do bottles and labels look like?

    Seriously! Very nice set design

    Marie

Wet this is sweet roses and violets. When first on this is dewy pale pink roses with a breath of violet. It has the same watery and translucent qualities of Moon Rose. After several minutes the violet becomes a little stronger. It doesn't change much more. This is a very pretty, feminine floral. The perfect balance of rose and violet. This would be a good substitute for Hope and Faith. Lovely!

    Nocturne

Wet this is violet, pale rose and pale florals. Sweet and light. When first on this is violet and pale florals, a bit powdery. After several minutes the rose develops. This reminds me of Psyche a bit. It doesn't change much more on me. This is a nice soft violet and rose blend. Very pretty but not one I need to keep.

    Death Adder

Wet this is Snake Oil and dusty coconut. When first on it's faint Snake Oil with a hint of dry/dusty coconut. This feels light brown. After a while, the coconut becomes creamier and there's a hint of sugar mixed in too. So far this has been the softest and faintest of the Snake Pit blends that I've tried. It's still lovely and I am curious to see how it will age

    King Cobra (2006)

Wet this is Snake Oil with a hint of sweet frankincense. It's not vastly different from plain Snake Oil. When first on it smells the same but with a hint of something like root beer. This one doesn't really change much. It's like a lighter version of Snake Oil but isn't much different than the original. It is very long lasting like Snake Oil is. Since I adore Snake Oil I love this one too! I'll be curious to see how it ages.

    TKO

Wet this is a sugared lavender. It's like fresh lavender buds. It's softer and less medicinal than Somnus which is more like dried lavender to me. This is soft and creamy on my skin. I think there's some warm vanila in here too. I've been using TKO for about a year now and love it!! It works very well- beyond that really- it's THE BOMB!! Sometimes I like to use it with Somnus. That is a very powerful combo! TKO helps me fall asleep fast and Somnus gives me a long lasting sleep. Anyone who has trouble sleeping has got to try TKO!!! Stellar job Beth!

    Cancer 2007

Wet this is sweet, a bit fruity, a bit floral and a hint of sharpness. This definitely feels like water. When first on this is very soft and delicate- pear mixed with floral notes. It reminds me of water lilies (even though there's none in here). This stays very soft and light. It almost reminds me of Black Moon. This is very ethereal, watery, luminous and calm. I was worried that this would be too sharply aquatic but it's not. This is a beautiful representation of my sign. I love it!

    The Carpathian Mountains

Wet this is spearmint or wintergreen (like toothpaste) mixed with wet, mossy notes. When first on this is cool, breezy and sweet with maybe a hint of citrus. This is very light overall. After a couple of mintues some floral notes develop. This becomes a light and sweet floral blend. There's a hint of grapes too. This is a very light scent- faintly sweet and cool. It's pretty but after trying it a couple of times I don't think I'll keep it.
