In the Bottle: Musk, Vanilla and what seems to be a fine tobacco 

 

On the Skin: Ooh, nice on the skin.  The tobacco is lovely and the other elements almost make this candy-like.  The nutmeg is definitely there and adds such a lovely aromatic note,  similar to the cardamom effect.  Rose geranium adds a dusty rosiness.  Very nice.

In the tiny decant bottle this smells like my local metaphysical store. On my skin it’s a musky tobacco and patch sweetened by the vanilla, with the slightly dusty saffron and amber. I’m not really picking out any nutmeg, and the rose geranium which can be overwhelming on me is gentle and herbal. This seems really classic BPAL to me. You could wear it on a date or to pull tarot cards on your couch. I really like this one. 
 

ETA This must have good throw — not common for me! — because I got complimented by a fellow customer in a vintage clothing shop. Why is it getting so little love???

The scent itself is more-or-less as one might expect from the notes: a little earthy from the patchouli, a little spicey from the nutmeg and saffron, a little warm and glowy from the tobacco and amber, a little floral from the rose geranium. The bourbon vanilla I don't get specifically, but I assume it's what keeps the geranium from coming across terribly sharp (though it is definitely geranium, if on the rosey side). It's unisex-to-femme, but neither "sexy" nor "girly", and I wouldn't be surprised -- but might be intrigued -- to smell it on a man. 

 

"A Dyer's Saffron" is top-tier for me. Appropriate for any occasion. Strong but not obtrusive, with good longevity.
