BPAL Madness!

Recommended Posts

Prototype of an unreleased scent for a media tie-in. A perfume for shapeshifters, charmers, and agents of chaos and transformations. Green-gilded leather, patchouli leaf, golden bergamot, agarwood, fiery clove, ti leaf, and amber.

Ok this is an appropriately tricky one. Smells like citrus soda in the bottle! On the skin the bergamot sings out with the amber, and it seems to share a fair amount of DNA with last year's Melancholy Fire, which is lovely. However I thought I was signing up for leather and patchouli, which seem very light/bordering on nonexistent to my nose, since I am a glutton for these notes. If you are hesitant about the agarwood, it is the light woody variety as far as I can tell.

Oh dear. Strong citrus, bubbly greens and golds and leafy-musk base. I am on the same level as LavenderCoffee as I was expecting a slightly more patchouli, perhaps grittier perfume? This is lovely but not that; I AM getting the patchouli (it reminds me very very very very vaguely of reptoid dominion) in the background, and it morphs into a pretty sweet hard candy mix of yellow-orange-and green flavours with the orange containing a sprinkle of cinnamon (must be the clove and a mix of a few other notes giving that kinda impression) and the backing of a fresh, green leather.

Laufeyson is unexpectedly effervescent. At first, I thought maybe it was a ginger note and the fizz was ginger ale-esque, but there's no ginger here. I suppose it could be the bergamot, but it's never done that in any other blend I've tried before. Maybe this has a fizzy, aldehyde-infused amber like Les Passades? Who knows. I get citrus fizz, leather, agarwood, and clove from this, with the fizz and clove being most noticeable at the beginning of the wear, and the leather and agarwood gaining strength over time (although this scent never gets as dark as it sounds based off of the notes).

This isn't a scent I need more of, but I'm glad that I decided to try it, and I'll keep an eye out for future reviews to see if anyone else has any ideas about the source of the fizz!

In Bottle
Golden, warm shimmer; I read this as marigold but that note is not listed, so I am wrong. I also get a lot of a champagne image (my mind sometimes does funny things when I smell bpal). No leather, no image of a laufeyson variant, not magically or green at all, no wood or patchouli, at this stage. Just warm flowers and amber.

Wet stage
On my skin, Laufeyson initially provokes an “elvish” image, a bit like the elves in The Lord of the Rings, in long shiny robes in a very fresh leaves-forest, holding little green and white flowers, just standing there, doing nothing at all...

Fresh, green, and when I try to smell the complexity, I get a hint of fresh green leather in a very, very far away distance, so far away, that I doubt whether it is there, or not there.

But it’s also too “clean,” so this a Laufeyson who is at home, in some kind of cell made of stone, and my feeling is that they have just summoned a fresh leather outfit. That outfit doesn’t really exist: it’s an illusion only. Ok, that is a very precise associated image. Hm!
The scent now also slightly soapy, but not as much as with other scents I have, and it’s only present, when I really press my nose against my skin, and I think bergamot is the culprit causing that, but I dont know. Clove is always a bit weird on my skin, and I get that here too, but it doesn't give me headaches.
So, yeah, at this stage, it’s very clean, but I like it!

Dry on skin
This is written while I was wearing it for the first time, and describes around 10min of my reactions to what I'm smelling, in a train of thoughts:
Happy: I do like this scent very much. It is very balanced on my skin now, but also "too balanced".... I wished for some kind of magic spark, some kind of trickster-y. I hope the clove amps down a bit, because it distracts me... There is a funny thing about it that makes me want to hug someone who wears green leather, and feel the warmth of the skin underneath the armour, but the thought is disappearing, and I can't get a hold of it. Is this the trickster-y after all? ...The next image is just a cozy orange leather chair in a stone room, a fireplace behind it that has a fire too orange to be true. ... And a whiff of a nearby forest coming in from a window to the right, it is dark outside, no stars, and this place inside is warm and cozy. ... There is this very deep feeling that someone *should be on the chair, only because it would be aesthetically nice to have. Like, right now. But that image also disappears... I don't know why I get stone, but that stays... Oh-oh: To be fair, this does give me some weird feeling of hope and safety, paired with a weird interest in something i won't write about publicly.... It now is still very clean and fresh, and maybe I would have hoped for more of a worn-down leather, but I do get a very clear image about who is wearing this green leather armour and present in this stone hall. It stays this way and becomes very balanced: green, cozy, very-very fresh.

Wearing this
To me, this is a scent that might be dependent on skin warmth, as I noted that it reactivated itself during yoga. That experience made me super happy. (Obviously, I ordered a fb backup after a few days of constant wearing).

Conclusions
This is a very nice scent! I think it is super interesting in its' changes. So there definitely is a charmer, transformer, and a trickster hidden in this scent (100%).

On my skin, it is very cozy, and I love it. I get why this may not work on every skin type, tbh.
I'm very glad I tried this and I'm already sad that I only have half a bottle of it (thus, I will order a backup).
Happy to see what ageing will do, but hopefully, a bit of the freshness will stay, cause it is important for this type of scent and the green and fresh smell.
Overall, I am extremely happy with this scent. To me, it is very uplifting. It makes my day. On my skin, Laufeyson stays for around 15-24 hours, but it has a very limited range, so it is absolutely suited for the office. Hint: you can just secretly smell on your wrist and calm your nerves down. Other people from a distance only note the patchouli, but smelling on my wrist gives me a calming and hopeful feeling.

So, I found my second signature scent! Next to "fuck you said the raven". Which is super interesting as other one refers to Odin's ravens, and obviously the Laufeyson one refers to someone as well. As of my emotional association and mental images when I read these two scents, these two could be family scents. Wearing those at the same time is simple: odin's ravens win but laufeyson remains there, smiling, and eventually, the scents mix and are balanced.

I cant describe how happy Laufeyson makes me: rest assured, it makes me VERY happy.
