BPAL Madness!

Recommended Posts

Cocoa butter, coconut, tiare, and a squirt of pumpkin juice.

(This is a perfume oil inspired by the scent of old school 80’s tanning lotions. Do not use this as a sunblock, as it’s… a perfume oil. Please be cautious with sun exposure, use sunblock every day, etc.)

In the bottle, pretty much all I can smell is pumpkin, with a slight hint of something in the background. But once it hits the skin, that all changes! The pumpkin takes a huge step back and the tanning lotion scent comes beaming through. It's so smooth. The rich cocoa butter and that subtle sweetness of the coconut and tiare. It's impossible not to get visions of long days at the beach as a child, or experimenting with tanning beds as a teenager (Regrets! I have a few!)

My hometown used to have a small video store that had a back room behind the counter with tanning beds. The whole place smelled like tanning lotion and popcorn, which is forever etched into my brain, and this is the closest scent equivalent to that I've ever come across. Not that it's salty or smells like popcorn, but the pumpkin component adds that earthy, semi-savory quality.

The longer it sits on the skin, the pumpkin that retreated into the background steps back out into the sunlight and mixes so beautiful with the other notes. I'm honestly not much for pumpkin fragrances; I always appreciate what the lab conjures up, but they're usually not my personal preference. This has changed me. I cannot stress how much I LOVE THIS. I will reaching for this one again soon!

This is a surprisingly mellow and wearable blend. The cocoa butter initially gives me the feel of being slathered in white chocolate, except that there are no sugary or foody notes here. The coconut and tiare rise up and twine with the cocoa butter to recreate that childhood tanning lotion smell, but it stays low. It doesn't hit me in the face. In fact, it smells like pleasantly sun-warmed skin that's baking by the pool in the late August sunshine. The skin vibe is enhanced by the pumpkin note, which is mellow and vegetal, definitely squash flesh as opposed to pie. If you want to wear a pumpkin note but always amp the cinnamon aspects of pumpkin pie spice, you will definitely want to try this for a completely different pumpkin ride.

Huh. Given the notes I was anticipating a delicately rich melange of summer confections, plus pumpkin.

Instead, from start to finish this is largely fresh, pulpy pumpkin. After extended wear, I get whispers of tiare, but it's really in the background, just adding a little faint balance that prevents this from just being straight up pumpkin squash on me.

I don't mind it- it's a light, fresh, pumpkin scent, which is a nice twist out of all the scents out there that are less about the squash and far more about the spice components. Still, I was hoping for the suntan lotion parts. I'll age it more and see how it does, but maybe this is also just a pumpkin flesh scent for me 🤷‍♀️
