  1. A different take on crossing and uncrossing. This blend acts by disrupting your adversaries' focus and jumbles negative energies sent your way. It effectively severs the psychic conduit connecting you to the person crossing you. Works almost instantaneously and is most effective when the curse is in its infancy. Can also be utilized in a far less noble fashion: use as an assault tool, creating chaos and disorder in someone else's life. Scent: Pungent, piney and redolent of Lysol. There's an earthy base that makes it bearable but I would never wear this for the scent. Effect: Oh wow. I used this on a dark moon to do the aforementioned psychic conduit severing from 3 people. During the work I threw in a return of anything consciously negative sent my way. The next day one was robbed - and has been very submissive and obsequious with me ever since -- and the other came down with a severe flu that lasted ten days. The third doesn't seem to have experienced anything negative, though the link between us (my ex of 4 years) does feel lessened in intensity. So while I got impressive and instantaneous results, they were a bit more than I was looking for; I will not use this again without structuring my spell very carefully. I'd say this has packed the greatest punch out of my 8 TALs. Use this with caution.

    Snow Bunny

Not at all what I expected. There's nothing girlie here, just a sharp pine/menthol smell that while cool, doesn't really convey any snow associations. It's pleasant enough as a room scent but nothing I would wear. It reminds me of an upscale Vicks chest rub and that just isn't how I want to smell. Oh well. Cute name, not so hot otherwise.

    Arabian Nights

The mention of rose in other reviews made me nervous, as rose and I don't get along. We really don't. Luckily this smelled in the bottle like a darkly spicy/sweet lavender and resin incense... the rose was muted. Even better, this smells decent on me. Not Bastet-sexy, but still wearable and for that I'm glad, because this stuff does its job. It definitely is an attractant on the sex side, but it also has brought a lot of new people into my life. I noticed that strangers are much friendlier with me when I wear this, especially women. It's definitely nice in that it has turned my world into a warmer place. Great TAL.

    Nocturne

This could smell like onions and sawdust and I would wear it faithfully to bed every night. It is so effective! I haven't felt this rested and refreshed in years. Scent-wise, it's lavender, roses and mint (catnip?) - not beautiful, not unpleasant. But it puts me to sleep and keeps me there for a good 7-8 hours. That is a miracle for someone who habitually wakes up repeatedly plagued by anxiety and nagging thoughts. Every worry I suppress in the daytime comes back at 4 a.m. Nocturne somehow rides over them and keeps me asleep. My dreams have been a little odd, but I imagine that's just the same anxiety that wakes me up, now working itself out in my dreams. I love this and I hope it keeps working. Recommended for any insomniac. ETA: I can't wear this too often or the law of diminishing returns kicks in. It stops working when I use it every night. The crazy dreams have intensified however.

    Bilquis

I have an odd relationship with Bilquis as I think it smells fantastic, but two other people have wrinkled their nose at it... So now I'm afraid it smells off on me, and hence only wear it at home when I'm alone. It smells like an old-lady version of Bastet. I get the honey and almonds but there's something powdery and floral that comes through and makes it a bit too preciously feminine... kind of like how when a silver screen villainness would smell, overly feminine and trying to disarm men with her wiles. I do like it, but it's a bit heavy. I use this sparingly.

    Mama-Ji

Overpowering incense - the hippie bookstore variety. My body amps this way hard and while it is pretty, I certainly can't wear it out... it's too intense. I tried just a dab in my car and everyone that got in made comments like, "Your car smells like church" or "did you burn incense in here?" Ultimately I used it as a candle dressing and that was pretty nice.

    War

I'm not going to review the scent, though it's nice enough. I bought this one solely for its purpose - and it definitely delivered. Without going into details, two "friends" who were jealous over a recent romantic conquest of mine, tried to set me up to be publically humiliated. I really, really didn't want this to be true but unfortunately it was and I employed War in a spell to come out on top of all my detractors and enemies who meant me harm. I figured it would be a good oil to use in a competition or evil campaign without directly bitchsmacking them back. And it was; everything went my way; one "coincidence" after another befell them and ruined all of their plans. It was comical, in fact. I also discovered the day after my spell that a maintenance man had been coming in my apartment while I was at work - something I'd suspected but couldn't prove until that day. I was able to get the cops and landlord involved and I do credit my spell for this as well. In short, I love War. This oil rocks my world.

    El Dia de los Reyes

This smells exactly like the description - for once, I can perceive every component listed. And it's delicious. Love at first sniff. Unfortunately this has amazing throw and endurance and after a few hours, I get sick of it. I actually showered it off before bed because it had become cloying. Why can't Eggnog have that kind of staying power?

    Egg Nog

Does this smell like Egg Nog? I guess it does somewhat. But mostly to me it is a dead ringer, no contest, for Lush's Snowcake. This is Snowcake in a bottle, which I must confess is something I've always desired. All told it's a light almond-cake-and-eggnog scent that is heaven. Heaven. I will be getting another bottle of this while I can - it's that divine. This may be my favorite BPAL ever.

    Kubla Khan

Jasmine hates me so I ordered this with some trepidation. Much to my delight, this is gorgeous. It goes on very soapy and clean, reminding me of a a floral-laced Come To Me; as it dries down, all I really can pick out is lily and sandalwood. Now it's quite complex so I know there are a jillion other notes comprising the final effect, but I can't identify them save those two. This is really a pleasant surprise.

    Goblin

So, so good. THIS smells like a fall night to me - making carmel apples and eating them outside under a tree on a cold night, smelling earth and fallen leaves. Oh my god, it's gorgeous. It doesn't change into anything weird or complicated, it has decent throw and it loves me!!! Strangely the coconut, while identifiable, mixed with the patchouli equals caramel to my brain. Odd. Big bottle for sure.

    The Death of Autumn

Straight up bitterness. This was the autumn scent I was most excited over and it hates me. It smells like a chemical spill for a good hour - no burning leaves or autumn anything - and then it slowly morphs into a less pleasant Hexxenacht. I get that same smoky night feel but it isn't terribly compelling or attractive. I'll play with layering it... I really want to make this work. ETA: I salvaged this by layering it with O. It's gorgeous!

    Oblivion

Salvation found in darkness beyond darkness, the blessed sleep of nothingness. Dark musk, wood spice, labdanum, patchouli, dark African woods, and saffron. The only thing that says Oblivion about this to me is the olive green color of the oil... it looks like a death potion endorsed by the Hemlock Society or something. But the scent? No way. This is like the scent of life to me - it reminds me of walking through the woods on an overcast day, everything cool and dry yet rich with the smell of pine trees and earth. I love this. I find myself reaching for this as a comfort scent because it always makes me feel better to wear it.

    Croquet

This has to be one of the most perfect blends BPAL has ever created, emphasis on the blend because no one note dominates on me - they all work together to produce a scent that is fizzy pink gorgeous springtime. Love it, love it, love it. I'm very afraid of rose and mildly afraid of citrus and yet... this is just stunning. I can't compare it to much save for saying that it smells like the happy, spring version of Kali, without the chocolate. So, so pretty. It also has nice throw, perceptible without being overwhelming, and stays consistent. Might have to get a big bottle of this one.

    Mr. Jacquel

This is so different on me than what I expected. It smells like Count Dracula's warmer cousin.. though not warmer by much because this is quite dry and cool. I'm a huge lover of Bastet and Anubis both but this just doesn't cut it for me. Perhaps it's because the patchouli dominates on me, laced with something astringent that reminds me of bathroom cleaning supplies. Apparently my chemistry just doesn't like this one.

    Boomslang

This smells just like I mixed Velvet and Snake Oil together - for the first 30-45 minutes, that is. Then it's just indistinguishable from Snake Oil.

    Bakeneko

Love the concept, love the kitty on the label. The scent itself... hard to say. It is a morpher, that's for sure. At first it was all orange spiced tea - the very notes I did not want emphasized. Gradually the cinnamon asserted itself. But my first wearing was on the whole unsuccessful. The third time I wore it a warmer muskier scent emerged... like someone else wrote on here, I enjoyed the waft more than sniffing it on my skin. The waft seems slinkier, more golden. And I did get a compliment on it. On the whole, I think it's a pretty scent, it's just the citrus I'm unfond of. But I do think it possesses that same feline slinkiness as Bastet and I think Beth definitely nailed the concept (like she always does!)

    Mag Mell

Unfortunately my imp broke on me so I only got to try this twice. And I love it! At first, sniffed up close, it smells like aquatic amber... none of the lemon or ginger or sage other people are getting. Gorgeous. Then as I forgot about it and went about my day, I kept smelling this light warm scent that was kind of rainy and kind of sunny and just absolutely lovely. It's so fresh and light-hearted, like a warm spring afternoon after the rain. This just may become a big bottle.

    Miskatonic University

I would love it if this smelled like a library or old books but I don't get any of that. Maybe faintly it reminds me of how a coffee-drinking old professor might smell. Which doesn't sound too appealing, but this is nice... Mostly I get kahlua but then it switches back to just rich coffee. This is definitely a cozy day scent and while it smells good on me, I might prefer it as a room scent.

    Arkham

This is like the violet cousin of Pink Moon and strikes me as an excellent perfume for Poison Ivy (the DC comic character) to wear. I can't stop sniffing this because first I pick up the light florals, then something kind of mossy and green, then it's wildflowers again... I am not one for florals but this is so perfectly balanced that I could easily wear this and not feel overpowered by flowers. I would wear this to the office or any event where I wanted a scent that was feminine and innocent without being too girlish.

    Jacob's Ladder

Light, golden and powdery - this is pure amber baby powder on me, nothing more or less. It fades quickly too, unlike what other reviewers are experiencing. The scent is sweet and inoffensive, but is a little too babyish for my liking. Normally I love amber but this is a bit cloying. My top amber scents remain Bastet and Brisingamen - this will probably find more use as a room or car scent.

    Horreur Sympathique

The description sounded so enticing but unfortunately this turns to a winey kool-aid on me. I wait and wait in vain for the honey and musk but they never show. Eventually I detect what I think is the oakmoss and that brings some much needed gravity to the scent. But then it disappears and this just hangs around as fruity sweetness.
  23. Nepthys

    White Rabbit

This is very strong honeyed tea on me. Eventually the linen comes through and the whole thing starts smelling very British to me. I like it quite a bit at first but after an hour the throw seems stronger than every and I'm over it. I think this will make a better room scent.

    Count Dracula

Long ago I loved Perversion. Somehow like most of my favorite scents, I eventually grew quite sick of it, but continued to miss the associations it had originally invoked in me - sexy men in leather, dark clubs, clove cigarettes and general debauchery. Count Dracula brought that all back with a bang. I can't quite pick up all the notes but this smells mostly like patchouli, clove, cinnamon and what I swear is a very faint mint note. I adore it. I associate this with summer, though, not sure why. There's something chilly at its heart that I think will be perfect on a hot Arizona day.

    Death on a Pale Horse

This was an extra, certainly nothing I'd have ordered on my own. I don't know how I overlooked it - this has got to be one of the best sandalwood scents I've ever tried from the Lab. It is just to die for. Dominating is sandalwood and vetivert with some faint lavender and mint - this is a chilly, clean, faintly naughty scent, like a gin and tonic on a hot summer day. It reminds me of something I love, but I can't identify. Definitely big bottle for me.
