I'm new to BPAL and basically flailing around at scents at the moment. Lush was my gateway drug. I wandered over here in search of something that smells like Lord of Misrule. Have not found it yet, but I'm swimming in new scents that make me happy, too. If it shows up now it'll just be icing on an already scrumptious cake. :D ETA: Found him! Mars Ultor! Some things I know I like: Patchouli Incenses Musks - especially red and skin Citrus Woods - Sandalwood, pine, cedar Green Lighter florals Resins Aquatics Snow scents Apparently foody scents aren't the devil either. Sadly, I'm having a hard time finding things I don't like... Things I do not like (so far.. trying to keep an open mind): Very sweet scents Cloying florals (Seraphim does not seem to work for me) Some favorites (i.e. things that make me walk around snorffling my arm all day), in no particular order: Mars Ultor Mme. Moriarty About Midnight Vixen Snake Charmer Anubis Goblin Love's Philosophy Infernal Lover Skadi Banshee Beat (Can hardly wait for RR!) Pepper Illustrated Woman Sin Dragon Moon '06 Dragon's Milk Fledgling Raptor Moon '10 Chaste Moon Hod Res. (omg, layered with Lush's Potion....)

  1. Revenant Rhythm is wonderful, but it's not quite Lord of Misrule. LoM has a bit more of a spiciness to it that RR lacks. That said, I would highly recommend RR. The smooth vanilla and patchouli blend together beautifully. I have the hair gloss, which sees lots of use, and the atmosphere spray. That gets sprayed on my pillow nearly every night at bedtime. I love LoM and I find RR very satisfying. The closest I found, as stated a few posts above, would be Mars Ultor, but sadly that was a limited edition and is pretty hard to find now. I haven't found a good GC scent that's similar, but the search goes on.

    Sleepytime BPAL

I've been enjoying Mysterious Warning and I Am Tired of Tears and Laughter for lavender-y scents recently. I also found Pumpkin Queen and Night Marchers v5 to be very sleepy, too. Misericordia isn't LE, but it has a nice lavender.

Where do I go from here?

I'm pretty new to BPAL, too, and though I probably can't help you out much with specific scents I can share how I got started. I came here having a very vague idea of what I liked and mainly searching for scents that were similar to Lush items I liked. I started off working my way through the "Lush to BPAL scent comparisons" thread and noting down scents that people mentioned that were similar to Lush scents I was familiar with. I'd read reviews of the BPAL scents mentioned and pick things that sounded promising. I'd also try to pay attention to mentions of "if you like X, you should really try Y!" I spent (and still do ) an embarrassing amount of time poking around in the review threads. I bought some imps from the Lab and some items off eBay. Things were kind of hit or miss at first, but I find that I now seem to be getting better at figuring out if certain things might work for me. Also, try to keep an open mind. I came in here certain that I didn't like foody and sweet scents, certain florals, "pumpkin-y" scents and... well, the Lab seems to have a real talent for broadening ones horizons. Go poke around in the Sales threads, too. People are always selling all kinds of great stuff and most everyone throws in freebies. I know there are a few things I love that I wouldn't have ever tried had someone not sent me an imp. I absolutely love Vixen and Elf. I'll try to be brave and recommend a few things that I like that kind of sit along the spice/wood/musk lines: Sin, The Cat, Scherezade, Oblivion, Snake Oil, The Antikytheria Mechanism. I'm not all that great with notes yet, so take my recommendations with a grain of salt! Good luck to you!
  4. For the record, I managed to try both and Mars Ultor wins by a mile. It's very close, enough so that I find it to be a wonderful substitute. Now, if it just weren't limited edition... I think he'll be my very first back-up bottle. Thank you so much for the recommendation!
  5. Hmm... that's tough for me. Everyone here seems so good at describing scents. For having patchouli and pepper, the scent seems rather soft to me. The notes seem to have fairly equal strengths. I sometimes catch a faint whiff of vanilla, which I'm thinking gives it the softness. The patchouli is not terribly strong. I did manage to get my hands on a solid perfume and a small vial of the liquid. The liquid perfume has a note of what almost reminds me of a bottle of frankincense essential oil I used to have, though that isn't in it, as far as I know (the pepper, maybe?). It's a little bit spicier than the solid. Either way, I love them both.
  6. I'm looking for something similar to Lush's Lord of Misrule; I can't get over how much I love this scent. Someone posted about it a few pages ago but there were no suggestions. The main notes in LoM are black pepper, patchouli, vanilla absolute and gardenia. I'm very new to BPAL so I'm still poking around. I did find the directory and looked up patchouli scents then searched for pepper among them. There were three possibilities (and three others that are unavailable). - Rumpelstilzchen (I intend to purchase an imp of this) Firewood and ash with an oddly otherworldly blend of patchouli, cardamom, nutmeg, black pepper, tonka, vetiver, and myrrh. - Avenger Plush vanilla bourbon and rum accord with pink pepper, patchouli, clove, pikaki, golden amber, caraway, tuberose, and jacarandá-da-bahia - Emma Vanilla bourbon, tea rose, jasmine, pink pepper, and patchouli The second two might be the better options, but I wanted to check around first since I can't buy an imp of these scents. Has anyone had any experience with LoM and the other three? Or have any other suggestions? Thank you!
