    The Carpathian Mountains

The Carpathian Mountains is nastier on the skin than it is in the bottle. In the bottle, and wet on the skin, it smells like the saxophone case I had in high school: all resiny and wintergreen. Yuck! The oil continued smelling that way for about thirty minutes until it turned into raspberry soap. Now, raspberries are okay, but this was really frothy and... soapy.

    Midnight Kiss

I had the oddest experience with Midnight Kiss. In the bottle, it's a decent-enough perfume scent. When it's wet on my skin it stinks of stale cigarettes. I almost gagged. Most of the forum reviewers state they get a cherry cola or cocoa smell. How very bizarre. As it dried down, though, the musk and sandalwood came out and I couldn't stop sniffing my wrist. I'm willing to get past the initial ick so I can enjoy the yummy dry-down.

    Scorpio 2007

Scorpio How could a Scorpio resist a scent made just for her? Hmm? VERY musky and VERY complex. I'm not familiar enough with the individual notes to pick them out, but I couldn't stop sniffing my wrist. It's a serious scent with minimal throw. Definitely one for the darker moods for which we Scorpios are known.

    October

October My favorite month (and not just because it's my birth month)! The oil smelled of rotting leaves when wet, but on drydown it turned into a lovely soft musk. Somehow Beth has captured the feeling of walking through the woods on a crisp Autumn afternoon in a bottle. There's woodsmoke and chilly air and, well, OCTOBER, in this bottle. I am completely in love.

    Earth Rat

Earth Rat I'm a Rat and fond of rodents of all types so I've been collecting BPAL scents with rodent names. I had high hopes for Earth Rat with its peony and plum blossom and lychee. What I got was MELON. Melon when wet and melon when dry. After an hour, the other florals and fruits started to rise, but the ever-present melon remained. This scent is more suited for spring/summer. I'll try it again next year.

    Vampire Tears

Regret born from ceaseless longing: wisteria, white grapefruit, neroli, green tea, jasmine, white ginger, honeysuckle, iris, and tonka. This is an odd one. I puchased it because I loved the scent in the bottle, but when I tested it on my skin two weeks ago, it was horrific: disgusting when wet and almost as bad when dry. It was cigarette-smoky like a wet Midnight Kiss, and never let up on the cigarettes. I was all set to put this bottle in the trade pile. In the meantime, I checked the forum and saw that other reviewers raved about the grapefruit and the florals. I decided to give this scent another try. Wow, am I glad I did! Today there was no smoke; it's all jasmine and honeysuckle and grapefruit. I can barely discern the tiniest bit of ginger, too. Ah, BPAL and body chemistry, what fickle creatures you are. I'm definitely keeping this bottle!
