Diary of a Lovestruck Teenage Cannibal

mmmm. this smells good. there's some familiarity here...it's cake-y a la "eat me", and it reminds me at first of carrot cake, the same carrot cake feeling i got from pumpkin queen, from the citrus. ...teenage cannibal is like a yummy, citrussy cake, with whipped cream, crystalized ginger, and candied grapefruit peel. it's a light foody scent, with none of the heavy butteriness that comes with some foodies. the grapefruit and ginger come out later, adding a tang and a zing that is a little "perkier" than what i usually wear (after all this is a teenage cannibal, not a middle-aged one), but i think this'll be good for me as a work scent, and a summer scent. fun! (awesome label too, of course.)

    Scent for Halloween?

i really have no clue what to wear tonight...last year i wore black moon, and the year before i wore stardust. part of me is leaning towards event horizon, though i don't know if that's very new years-y. i guess i'll decide later.

    Villainess and BPAL

for pearl diver, i would go with a pirate-y scent such as blood pearl, black pearl or anne bonny.

    The Peacock Queen

there's something a little funky at first, in this rose, but i still like it. rose is not my favorite smell to wear, but i still have a fascination for it, and find it calming somehow, so sometimes i crave rose. as i said, there's something that strikes me as slightly funky, or rotting at first, about this rose, in comparison to the freshness of rose red. yet, i still like it's mellowness - it's dreamier to me than rose red, and more subtle. i guess i like them both - this one is softer on my skin, yet has an odd tinge of decay to it. definitely the elegant, quieter counterpart to rose red. i guess i don't have a preference here - i like them both. peacock queen is a very smooth, soothing rose - reminds me of rose water actually.

    Hony Mone

hony mone is one of those blends that smell amazing to me in the bottle, but it loses something on my skin. out of the bottle it is really incredible - sweet jasmine with all this mellow wonderful stuff grounding it - the tonka and honey and figgy fruit, just making this ambrosia-like scent. on my skin it blooms for a bit, with a bit of lovely fruitiness, at the same time the jasmine is starting to rise. i never thought of myself as amping jasmine, but i do get quite a bit as time goes on - reminds me quite a bit of perfumed garden actually, with it's jasmine and fruit mix, but heavier somehow. (i really love the perfumed garden, so this is not a bad thing at all). the carnation and honeysuckle are a bit hard for me to detect underneath the jamine, or maybe theyre just very blended. i love the fact that something edible is lurking just beneath this blossomy-blooming floral. a very decadent, romantic blend. like it a lot.

    Midnight Kiss

from the frimp it smells a bit like chocolate covered cherries...reminds me of kali, but not as complex. on my skin it changes quickly - all kinds of woody spices come out, beneath the cocoa. it reminds me of tezcatlipoca, but not exactly. there's something in there which reminds me of snake oil or boomslang or something -- sorry to be making so many comparisons of other oils, but it does seem to have some similarity. somewhere there's a hint of grape-y wine, but not much. i like the kali/tezcatlipoca part of it, but i don't like the snake oil/boomslang-ness of it, which always reminds me of old leather shoes/feet. no it's not actually that bad, but there's something here which doesn't quite work on me.

    Baneberry

wow, i really like this actually! a clear berry scent - at first it reminds me of cranberry, but somehow greener, and more refreshing, as if mixed with evergreen needles. then it becomes a bit more melon-y. it's a very clean berry, to my nose, not overly candied, syrupy, or artificial-smelling. i guess you could say it does smell like a candle, but it's not waxy smelling. i'm not sure i would wear this that often, but i do think it smells very pleasant and uplifting.

    Lysander

this is a beautiful scent - round, and somewhat woodsy, with a subdued caramelized sweetness which i attribute to the tonka and benzoin. the lilac musk gives a powdery, vintage duskiness, but is really not prominent. same with the lime - there is just a hint. i guess this could be called "masculine", but i would have no problem wearing this, and i hate "men's cologne"-type smells. the benzoin is reminiscent of the benzoin in arrival at the sabbath, but not nearly as syrupy or heavy as that scent. it smells very classic to me, what a nice surprise!

    The Masque

this is the masque from dark delicacies... it smells very unusual...my first thought is that it smells quite green, like plants - like a greenhouse. is my bottle mislabeled? i'm not noticing cocoa or carnations...anyway, it gets almost anise-y or like basil...i really like this actually, although it doesn't seem to correspond to the notes at all, it's almost medicinal...it definitely deepens and develops a bit of spice and incense. this scent is very alive, and very well blended. i suppose the sweetness i'm smelling could be the combo of honey, carnations and clove...but the components definitely make a blend which smells like something else entirely - herbal, woody... i think this works well on me - it's very unusual, but natural smelling - subtle and mysterious, not feminine, really. something which would require a smoking jacket at a lodge, or something...

    The Haunted Palace

i've been curious about the haunted palace for years - i didn't order it the first time it came out, so when it came to dark delicacies, i had to try it. it's not the greatest scent on my skin - red musk can be problematic for me - something like an artificial-smelling bathroom freshener, i dunno... but i can see what haunted palace is supposed to be...it reminds me somewhat of hollywood babylon, with the addition of orange - it's a pretty, candy-ish orange-vanilla...i really don't get much rose, to speak of. somehow this just doesn't work so well on me though...smells a bit too artificial and sweet. oh well.

    Black Lace

whoa - smells intense, dark and delicious in the bottle - very heavy on the cognac and tobacco. on my skin: even more cognac and a lot of tobacco - almost catches in the back of my throat, but i like the intensity and dark brown quality of this. this is more masculine than i was envisioning...though when the musk, incense and sugar vanilla cotton (or whatever it is) appear, it sweetens up to a really great balanced scent. this is really unusual - i love when an oil is unusual. verrry smoky. the vanilla is very subdued, a "smoked" vanilla, is what it feels like, and the cognac is incredible. this is not a bright scent at all, but very muted, smoothed over, almost murky, yet quite distinct. great sepia-toned scent.

    The Oval Portrait

this is a very bright floral; girly, sunny and innocent. it's got the bright cheeriness of et lux fuit, though i don't know if they share any notes. i'm not sure which flower is prominent, but i know it is not the carnation - it's actually a little soapy, which i think could be the lily. i think honeysuckle, lily and bluebonnet are what i'm smelling, and maybe a hint of the vanilla musk which makes it just a little sexy and luscious. the carnation is hiding, and the rice flower is blended right in there. this isn't a particularly mysterious scent, it seems full of brightness and light and is ultra-feminine. there's something "juicy" about this floral, and i don't find it overwhelming. i like it a lot! eta: i kept thinking this smells a lot like "berenice". when i went to look at berenice's notes, i see they both have stargazer lily - this, to me, is the prominent note in oval portrait, and berenice - especially on the drydown. and it lasts!

    CCNow or PayPal

i have a question re: the forum-only scent, and CCNow - there is no "comments field", as far as i can see, when paying with CCNow, in which to leave your forum name, as requested. i know that paypal has a comments field, but in the case of CCNow, is it neccesary to e-mail the lab with our forum names? don't know how strict they are about this, i think i have forgotten in the past, and still recieved the forum scent. please advise.

    Event Horizon

interesting scent - a little spooky. from the imp i get a deep, sweet smell - similar to honey, and dangerous-smelling; like cleopatra testing poisons...which i had to swap away (sickly sweet, almost). on my skin though, it's different - it turns into something very resinous and profound - a more "spacious" version of schwarzer mond. opium is iffy on me - occasionally it works splendidly, more often it does not. in this case, the resins are so intense - in a good way - and the orchid adds an exotic edge which, in combination, render this opium the good, smoky-smooth opium, rather than the sickly-sweet opium. i don't know if this makes any sense, so i'll just say: i like this very much for it's intensity and sensuality. beautiful, in a darkly mysterious way.

    Egg Nog

man, people were not kidding when they said this disappears fast - almost instantly, in my case. anyway, it is very boozy in the bottle, yet somehow not that strong - it smells like - you guessed it: egg nog, with brandy and nutmeg. it's quite authentic and yummy. on my skin, the booze vanishes instantaneously and i'm left with an extremely light, though pleasant, custard cream with the faintest dusting of nutmeg. it's quite pleasant, though completely faint.

    Chanukkiyah

first sniff from the bottle this smells great - i'm a jewish girl, and i love hannukah, so this pleases me. i smell jelly, wine (the pomegranate?) and the amber. it smells dark, rich, and raisin-y (the fig?) - but full of flickering light. on my skin, the olive oil comes out big time - and i love the smell of olive oil, so this is good. the beeswax comes out - it's all there. this "tone" of scent seems to work on me. reminds me quite a lot of haloa (which i also like), but lighter - not quite as dark. this is fairly perfume-y on me - not in a florally way, but i think from the amber, which is slightly "high-pitched" in this blend. this has that same blend of rich dark sugar mixed with shining resin - the amber - that i find in arrival at the sabbath - but again, not as heavy, though it is pretty strong. will be great for the holidays.

    Sagittarius 2007

this is the only zodiac oil i've gotten, and it's my sun sign. first sniff from the bottle is fresh yet soft - florally, but it is the dandelion - so: springy and happy. it smells exactly like a fresh grassy meadow, full of dandelions and sunlight. on my skin it goes a bit soapy at first, but does calm down, and soften. i think i can detect a faint figginess, and the chamomile, which i love. this is a friendly, innocent scent. very much for daytime, and sunshine. i can't say i smell the sage, and i wish i could smell the clove more. all in all though, this is uplifting and light, and i'm pleased.

    Rose Red

(2007). i've been curious about this one forever - now i get to try it. out of the bottle, i am surprised that i get a dose of dirt smell, along with my rose, and something almost sharp, almost chemically. on my skin this is really strong, bright and intense rose. almost too much, at first. however, it does calm down and become much more of a well-behaved rose, that is not screaming "rose" anymore. i get the greenery that others have mentiones, and that is nice and much more realistic to what i am accustomed to smelling in a perfume. this rose is very "raw" smelling to me, it's not the warmest scent on my skin, it is rather cold actually. this is an odd one on me, not an everyday scent, but i'll definitely wear this once in a while, when the rose mood strikes - i can see wearing this one outdoors in a field or park.

    Diwali

mmm this one is really nice...almost summery, really. it is quite incense-y on me actually, perhaps the sandalwood/ but i have to say i get a nice amount of coconut, and i am happy about this. it reminds me of being on a beach, with a coconut drink, and incense and spices blowing on the breeze. this is not overly fruity to me, but there is a touch of floral, perhaps the rice flower. this is quite lovely to me - rather elegant - like a delicate dessert made of coconut and almond milk - a bit like an indian rice pudding. after a while, a bit of fragrant woodiness comes out, which is great - it's the cedar, i think. now it smells like a wooden box that held incense. i could see wearing this to work. lovely scent.

    La Befana

i knew i would love this one, and i was right - first sniff from the bottle, this is right up my alley - a lovely smooth caramel hits my nose first - deep, like the caramel in arrival at the sabbath...but not nearly as heavy. the violets hang just underneath this - like caramelized violets, with a touch of candy. i'm not really getting any charcoal or soot, mostly a light, but rich caramelized violet. wayyy in the background i get a faint whiff of what could be lilies or maybe the cypresst. it's a nice balance, and i'll be wearing it alot.

    Destroying Angel Claw Polish

i don't have much to add, except that this is a great, rich, vampy color. i've only had it on for one night, so i can't speak to its lasting power, but it seems sturdy, and is very shiny. i know it's not supposed to have formaldehyde, but to me it still had a normal nail polish fume-y smell. anyway, it looks great - very sultry and mysterious. love it.

    Aquae Massage Oil

this is an instant favorite, for me. i can tell it's gonna be a staple. i love using massage oils for a general moisturizer, expecially if they are light and pure, which this one is. there is nothing sticky or heavy about it, and it smells and feels very healing and healthful. the scent is primarily geranium, and chamomile. geranium sometimes smells a bit strong or tart to me, but in this case, it mellows out upon contact with my skin, and as it softens, i get a touch of the lavendar. in any case, this is just a lovely, peaceful oil, that makes your skin really soft. it also seems to have an uplifting effect, mood-wise. love it!

    Pumpkin II (2007)

in the bottle, there's something down there, deep, dark and strange, blending with the pumpkin. i can't name it, but suspect it's the tobacco. on my skin, i think it probably was the tobacco, and somthing sharp-ish comes out. i can't say that i smell the carnation, but something like a caramel-y floral is emerging. i guess this has something to do with the tonka, champaca, or actually, the pumpkin. this is a dark, rich smell - the only hint of carnation i get, is its spicy essence, but i can't say it smells like the carnation scents i am accustomed to. i do like this scent - it is smoky and mysterious, and quite autumnal. the pumpkin is not overwhelming, but it's definitely present. very, very well-blended, and a bit incense-y. starts out odd, ends up beautiful.

    Pumpkin IV (2007)

out of the bottle, this is mostly pumpkin - a la pumpkin queen, etc. - but on my skin i begin to get the other notes - i can't really define them though, a dry quality, probably the sage. a florally sweetness emerges, perhaps the sweetgrass or cactus flower. it's an interesting combo - sweet yes, but not soapy. and rather delicate. it definitely helps subdue the pumpkin, which i think is a good thing. i really like this a lot actually - i love sweetgrass incense, so, to me, this has an incense quality. and i like the clean, dry feel it gives to this pumpkin blend. if i had one complaint, i'd say the overall blend is maybe a little tame or "safe". it is not a dramatic scent. but good for situations like wearing to work, when you don't want something too crazy or powerful. this is pleasant, and pretty original, i feel. ETA: trying this again, i have to say this one has really grown on me, and i think i underestimated it, when i first reviewed it. true, the cactus blossom doesn't leap out dramatically, but there is something really relaxed and gently pretty about this blend - a feminine quality and a feeling of the southwest that i really love.

    The Perilous Parlor

i LOVE this! at first, from the bottle, i could tell i would like it, but it smelled a bit subtle and faint. i was expecting it to be perhaps overly sweet, or cloying - but it's not! on my skin, it blossoms, and like goldilocks says: it's just right. sweet, syrupy pears - but somehow, it's not too much. the vanilla seems to temper it, rather than sending it over the top. it's like a pear custard tart. it's almost got that mellow vanilla of midway - rich and subdued, at the same time. the pear drifts away rather quickly, unfortunately - since it's such a delicious phase. but the quiet vanilla i'm left with is just lovely.
