  1. Hi!

Unfortunately I don't have any suggestions (not familiar with these scents and don't have time to look up/cross-reference notes as it's my bedtime), but I wanted to let you know that there's a whole thread of these types of questions, in case you might get more help there (it doesn't seem to be getting a lot of traffic recently, but still might be worth a try):

  2. So, I just started using Minamisoma (https://www.lushusa.com/shower/body-butters-conditioners/minamisoma/9999908130.html), and to me it smells a LOT like Delight & Consternation (https://www.bpal.org/topic/79821-delight-and-consternation/), at least if one got a bottle either with less chocolate globules, or if one didn't roll the bottle much before applying so didn't get much chocolate. I ended up re-homing my Delight & Consternation because the drydown wasn't the best with my skin chemistry, but it's nice to smell something else that's close to how it was upon initial application. :)

I love Green Tree Viper. Can anyone recommend any similar Bpals? I love its soft minty essence, sweet and candy like but not syrup sweet. I just wish it had more throw. But seriously, it is my favorite perfume. I would love to try other Bpal in a similar style, if anyone can recommend any

Not sure if you would want to try to find Knockout Drops? I don't see it much on the secondary market though.

  4. :welcome:

I was thinking The Caterpillar, but you should probably take a look at reviews due to your dislikes:

Maybe The Bow & Crown of Conquest would be more your speed? https://blackphoenixalchemylab.com/shop/general-catalog-perfume-oils/sin-and-salvation/come-and-see/the-bow-crown-of-conquest/

Morocco sounds like another good bet: https://blackphoenixalchemylab.com/shop/general-catalog-perfume-oils/wanderlust/morocco/

  5. Hi there!

You might want to check out the hair gloss thread about this... there have been similar questions over and over where different people will chime in with how they use the product. I will search for it and edit with a link.

The reason it's not a simple answer is that different people use them differently because different people have different types of hair and different needs and desires. Here are some examples:

    • Some people really just use them for scent and not for anything the gloss does to their hair. For some people it is a more convenient way to apply scent than to one's skin for various reasons.
    • I personally actually use the hair gloss to do something to my hair. My (chin-length, straight, fine, and lots of it) hair gets frizzy sometimes. So I use the hair gloss after towel-drying my hair, by spraying some into my palm, rubbing my palms together, and then running my fingers through my hair.
    • My husband (sometimes with a typical male haircut, sometimes with long hair, always with curly or wavy hair) uses hair gloss on dry hair. He says it helps his hair to be more wavy and less frizzy. He sprays the gloss directly onto his hair and then combs his hair.
    • I've read other people's comments that they only use it on the ends of their hair because it makes their scalps oilier.

*EDIT* Here is a link to the pertinent thread. It's 167 pages long, but even on the last page, people are listing how they like to apply hair gloss, and there are responses different from the examples I've given, so hopefully it will be helpful...

  6. With "earthy," are you thinking more of a dirt direction, or more of a patchouli direction?

Destroying Angel has had some attention lately, maybe check out these reviews:

I'm a big fan of its cousin Death Cap, but i kind of think of it as a vanilla/coconut-y dirt, so I'm not sure if that sounds great to you or not...

You specifically mentioned not being into florals, so I wouldn't recommend things like Zombi and its ilk (combinations of earth and strong florals). I'm sure others who are more into the earthy side of scents will chime in with more suggestions. :smilenod:

*EDIT* Ooh, I bet this thread might help you! It was last posted in back in 2016, but some of the suggestions are probably still available...

I asked about it in the fb gusp group and someone said it was in discussion.  But maybe it can be a Sep-Dec one since it's getting pretty late for a Halloween one with the way the post office is going.

Yes, I saw the discussion on facebook, but figured it couldn't hurt to mention Switch Witch here too since not everyone "facebooks." ;)

  8. Interestingly, for me in the bottle this smells like unburned cloves in the pack, and on the skin, smells like a lit clove cigarette. So that's a neat trick! I wasn't expecting to be able to smell the "burning" aspect of a cigarette as well, but it's there for me. I might actually layer this with Indonesian Clove Single note to tone down the incendiary aspect. I agree that this has quite a bit of throw so likely doesn't need to be slathered unless you are a "huge cloud of scent" type person.

Just a heads up that I am still interested in putting together the jewelry swap AND in doing a traditional mystery match spring cleaning swap, but I'm feeling totally overwhelmed right now.

Sorry to hear that. During this "social distancing" time I will try to sort out my jewelry for the swap in preparation for possibly sending it to the swap organizer, but obviously jewelry doesn't have an expiry date or anything!

alas, U&R has both leather and oudh, neither of which work on me. :(

Sorry to hear that... in my comment, I was responding to biyonic who didn't mention those constraints. I did a search for that note, and it looks like the 2 cashmere scents that have neither leather nor oudh are Right Atrium and Monk and Actor (the latter sounds closer to the non-BPAL cashmere scents described earlier, though likely more traditionally-masculine).

Hey all! I've done my due diligence and I'm doing my best, but I've decided to come to the experts!

I adore Bath and Body Works' Bonfire Bash scent, from 2018 and 2019! The main scents are vanilla bourbon, creamy sandalwood (whatever that means LOL), cashmere and musk! A similar scent I like is Replica's By the Fireplace, which has vanilla accord, chestnut accord, and clove oil! I love smoky, creamy, sweet and spicy scents, and autumn and winter is the best time to find them! If anyone could point me in the right direction, I'd be super grateful! Thanks!

I've never smelled the B&BW scent you mentioned, but Unicorn & Ram springs to mind... not sure how easy it would be to find these days though.

  13. There are lots of past discussions about masculine and gender-neutral scents, I might try to come back and link to some of them if I get the chance (*EDIT* here is the obvious one, linking to the last page since it's most likely to refer to currently-available stuff). If I personally think about scents that fall somewhere in between gender neutral and masculine but aren't citrus/floral, I think of Antikythera Mechanism and Tombstone (it's too close to bedtime to try to go through the contents of my husband's imp box, but I wanted to at least mention a couple of actual scents). But of course this is all heavily dependent on skin chemistry (for example, Tombstone is somewhat sweet on me so would lean more neutral than masculine, but some people get just cedar shavings from it), so I concur with the folks who have recommended trying a variety of scents. :smilenod:
