    EPIC BPAL Spreadsheet Thread

So I started on this crazy spreadsheet project where I'm using Hackess's spreadsheet and putting everything in order: Excel spreadsheet with different tabs for organized Lupercalia, Yule, Halloweenie, Lunacy, GC, Gaiman, Salon etc. They will generally be organized by year and category etc. For me it is easier to see ALL GC in one place and all LE Yule or LE Lunacy in one place. Just helps keeping me organized. I really only have the GC and CD stuff finished and just started lunacy today, but here is the link! If you guys think you might want a copy let me know and once I am further along with it I'll see about making it so that you guys can all download it! So without further ado here it is... (Has been edited, check later post) ETA: Also I may need help with it and what not for putting things in order! So I'll be posting here every now and then with my progress!

    Temple Viper

This starts off very very soft, and then as it dries becomes stronger and deeper. Overall I get lots of champaca, a touch of frankincense, and a really nice resinous background over a very very subtle base of Snake Oil. The sugar cane really shines in this too adding a sweetness that is just beautiful without being achingly sweet, and the resins add an almost (not spicy but almost spicy) touch to the mix. The blend almost sparkles, like stars in the darkness. The sugar+incense combination is very similar to that of Midnight on the Midway, but without the florals and instead with resins and Snake Oil. The entire combination is almost heavy in a way which is probably because this blend is heavy on the incense, but the sugar cane adds this sparkly lightness that brings the entire blend to completely different level while the resins add a really nice dry warmth. Yum. I LOVE THIS. So glad I sprung for a bottle unsniffed, this should only get better with age!

    Samhain

2010 Version: Lots of damp woods and patchouli at the start, and when I say A LOT of patchouli, I mean woah a LOT LOT of patchouli! I also get a touch of fir, a bit of crispness, a hint of spices and apple. How pretty! This has aged really amazingly and I am now kicking myself for swapping off my bottle of it. Sigh. A really really lovely autumn scent. I have two favorite evocative autumn blends now: Samhain and Lambs-Wool. Lambs-Wool is more of a cheery happy autumn scent while Samhain is the dark, a little sinister, out in the windy night but can still feel the warmth of happy autumn on a cool night. You know what I mean. I need to grab more of this scent if/when it comes out this year!

    Jacob's Ladder

2010 Version: Resinous and gorgeous, almost foody in a way. Lots of amber and tonka with a touch of rockrose. The blend is almost spicy with with a touch of sweetness and really really golden. Not powdery at all and almost syrupy if I think about it. Sigh. I hope this is released again in 2011 because my partial decant just won't do.. ETA: ok so I decided this is a bit too sweet/sour on me. I think it's the rockrose and it is making the blend a bit too syrupy and sweet/sour. If this is ever released again I'll be interested in trying it, but I can't foresee a bottle in my future.

    Lambs-Wool

I can't believe I never reviewed this! It is probably my favorite autumn blend ever! 2010 Version: In the bottle and on my skin this is pretty much the same (YAY). It starts off lovely tart apples with a dash of milk making it a touch creamy and lovely spices that all meld together without anything being particularly distinct. It smells like cider, a lovely cup of warm cider, but with an added tart and freshness from the apple with I love. This isn't candle smelling at all because it just smells so fresh and comforting and alive and yummy. Also it is definitely on the sweeter side of spicy so don't let the spices scare you off. YUM. I love apples. I think this should only get better with age. As the day goes by the scent becomes warmer and even more comforting and the initial tartness of the apple fades while still being absolutely delicious. Swoon. Love. Love. Love.

    Best of 2010/2011?

Some of my favorite new releases (I went about 18 months back) were... - Half-Elf, Ranger, and Paladin from the RPG line. I really love some of the others as well, but these are my favorites! - Celeste was a BPTP release, but I still think it counts! AMAZING stuff. - Metal Rabbit is thought to be similar to the other new year releases, but I haven't tried the others and this is probably one of my favorite fruity fragrances. - The Soldier came out with the Yules and my oh my it is really nice! It is borderline foody and strangely reminds me of Crowley. YUM. - Old Demons of the First Class is a GC that came out with some other Marchen scents in July 2010. I really like it, kind of dry and musky with a bit of a neroli bite. - Since you said 2010, I'll also mention that the Neverwhere line came out and Door and Hunter and two of my favorite blends from it. Door is yummy sticky honey with chamomile and Hunter is the perfect leather and sage combination. - Then of course Paduan Killer Swarm and Panther Moon. Both so so so good. PKS is a coconut esque blend that actually works on me! - Ehecatl is GC and is mainly lime and hibiscus, came out in April of 2010 along with Pyramus which is part of the BPTP Lovers and is a wonderful sandalwood, lavender, dragons blood type scent. BUT if you do count the rereleases I will also include Lambs-Wool 2010, Lotus Moon 2010, Worm Moon 2011, Womb Furie 2011, and Smut 2011.

    Sudha Segara

Lovely! The milk note in alice combined with the ginger note in Mag Mell (a bit softer version though). The honey is faint and creamy. This is rather pretty, light, and fresh. Like a combination of Mag Mell and Alice but without the florals and the super brightness. I must say I rather enjoy this one, ginger can be iffy but when it is done right IT IS DONE RIGHT. I don't know if I'll need a bottle, but this is one to watch!

BPAL for Costume Parties, Halloween Costumes

I've decided for halloween this year I'm going to be a Sailor Scout! Do you guys have any recommendations for scents for the Sailor Senshi? I really don't know which Scout I want to be yet, but here are recommendations I am looking for most! Sailor Moon (naturally) Sailor Venus (was my favorite Sailor Scout, but not sure about all that orange for my costume hehe) Sailor Mars Sailor Neptune (just a warning, aquatics all go soapy on me) Sailor Cosmos (why not?) What say you guys?

    Urd

Mmmmmmm this is just delicious! Grapes, patchouli, and nag champa. It is as simple as that, but this totally works! The muscadine provides just the right amount of juicy sweetness and ripe fruitiness to sweeten and lighten an otherwise dirty and smokey blend. I love this nag champa note and the patchouli adds this really nice earthy (but not too dirty) twist that is just amazing. After a while on skin the patchouli starts to come out more and knocks the nag champa in the background. This patchouli note is great, have I mentioned that? Hehe. I wish I had a little more Nag Champa in this but apart from that this blend is ACE. Another winner and possible bottle!

    Defututa

Like Penance the Lab has been wanting me to try Defututa for a good while now. I want to say I've gotten around 4 or 5 frimps of it? A few I swapped off and now I am left with two. I decided it was high time I tested it out! Right from the start this reminds me a lot of Snow White, I don't quite know why, but the vanilla and floral note is very reminiscent of it. On the skin this one really blooms though. The vanilla and olive blossom are definitely at the core of this, the vanilla not really being very smokey to my nose. After a while I begin smelling the jasmine which makes a nice pair with the olive blossom. I was initially wary of jasmine notes, but have learned I actually really enjoy them, and this blend is no exception (that being said jasmine is in no way a big player in this blend). After a bit the honey begins to bloom on skin, but this is a very different honey than the one I'm accustomed to smelling. It is nice, light, and sweet, actually very similar to beeswax but a touch sweeter and without the waxiness. For the record, O was terrible on me. Way too sharp and sour honey, but Womb Furie was rather nice and the honey in this blend reminds me of the honey in Womb Furie. Overall I really really love this! Surprise surprise! It ends up being this lush vanilla, olive blossom, jasmine, trickled with the perfect honey note. Can't say I get much smokiness or cinnamon, but I'm ok with that. Could be bottle worthy!

    Thirteen (13): May 2011

Oh this was so nice in the bottle and while wet, but my skin ruined it... Wet and in the bottle I get yummy cocoa (which is a favorite note of mine) along with something a bit lemony and woodsy underneath it all, sandalwood perhaps? I also get something a touch rosy and a bit spicy. Yummm. After a while once this begins to dry down the lemony note just TAKES OVER. How depressing. Now this is pretty much all herbal lemon with a touch of spice and a slight rose tinge. I'll have to give this another go after it has some age to it, but as of right now the lemony herbal note is a bit too much and just drowns out everything else, especially the lovely cocoa.

    PL176

Oh my goodness. This is wonderful. Sweet juicy tart orange that gets a touch powdery sweet on me without being particularly sugary or candy like. Reminds me a bit of slightly sweet orange juice with a touch of effervescence! YUM! I love this! Why didn't I get bottles and bottles and bottles of it!!!

    CD: Alley of Games v6

Grass + Sugar + Cotton Candy. This is a bit sparkly powdery and effervescent without being overly so. This is quite pretty but almost a bit too powdery sweet for me. Kind of like powdered sugar which may be just a little too much for me, but it is an interesting scent for sure. I will be really interested in seeing how the final product happens!

    Half Elf v5

Wow. For some odd reason this smells JUST like Door on me. Sticky honey with some kind of green grassy note. I'll have to death match this with Door but from what I can tell this smells almost exactly like a touch lighter Door on me. A little unfortunate and disappointing to me. Grrr yay skin chemistry...

    Hunter

I totally agree with calivianya on this one. This is just like Western Diamondback minus the Snake Oil on me. Which is great because in WD the Snake Oil kind of took over, while Hunter stays true to its leathery goodness. From wet to dry this stays pretty much the same: soft leather, sage, and a touch of amber (not the powdery variety but the deep golden type). This blend is exceedingly warm and round. Some leathers can be really sharp and acrid on my skin, thankfully this leather is extremely soft and very wearable and just delicious and snuggly. I think this is by far my favorite predominantly leather blend, apart from Hand of Glory whose leather is just a touch sharper and a bit more sexy. This is a cosy blend that I can see slathering in the winter, and wearing in the summer just because it is soft enough. Yum. Eta: No clove to be seen, and if it is lying around it is extremely well blended because I am not a huge clove fan and I wouldn't love this so much if it was extremely dominant!

    RPG Combos

Half-Elf + Ranger = Wow. this is LOVELY. I really adore Half-Elf but it can be almost too woodsy leafy every now and then, but when combined with Ranger? Swoon. Sandalwood and musk laden beeswax with some leather, pine, and juniper. That being said, this blend is so so so much more than a simple description of it's notes. So completely evocative and I love the idea of Lord of the Rings scents and this is definitely what I would imagine Aragorn to smell like (will need to try this layered with Good and Lawful too)! Woodsy, forest-y, brown, green, extremely well put together, and a touch mystical and powerful while still being rugged and somewhat sexy? YES PLEASE.

Looking for a BPAL that Resembles a Favorite Perfume

I've never smelled Orla Kiely, so I don't know if this is a match at all, but the description reminded me of The Last Unicorn. "Frosty lilac petals, iris pallida root, orris, violet leaf, white chocolate, coconut, wild lettuce, white sandalwood, and oakmoss." On me, the florals and oakmoss give The Last Unicorn a somewhat 'traditional' perfume scent, while the chocolate and coconut ground it and make it very lightly sweet. I'll have to try that one! I have't tried it either, but have heard good things about it so thought I would try to find something with similar notes!

    Metal Rabbit

I really love this. I wavered on it for quite some time. Thought about swapping or selling my bottle, but wearing it now I realize it is really a unique blend that I have nothing like! In the bottle this is extremely fruity, but not in the tart kind of way. Something is sweetening everything and keeping it from smelling like yelling fruits! On my skin the fruit note tends to smoothe out even more. I don't smell any one fruit in particular but kind of like a medley of everything that creates a really pretty orange and even a bit pinkish fruit scent. On skin the floral note comes out a lot more too. The peony is pretty much eye to eye with the fruity goodness keeping things from getting tart and overly ripe and making everything blend into this sweet fruity floral. And that's all folks! No cypress or bamboo or dragon's blood (thank goodness because dragon's blood can be really cloying on me) just orange, pinkish, golden fruits laced with sweet slightly powdery peonies. Overall this scent is extremely fun and girly but also really sophisticated at the same. Pure love and really unique to anything else I have!

    Dee

This is pretty. Reminds me of a lighter, less cologne-esque version of The Lurid Library. The leather note is really lovely in this though, so that sets it apart from LL and makes it scrumptious: cracked parchment with smoky soft worn in leather and a touch of incense and smoke. I like this a lot but would wear LL in place of it. The more I wear this though, the more I love it. I just wish it had more throw. This stays extremely close to skin on me and that is even IF I SLATHER. Smells wonderful, but the throw will prevent me from getting a bottle. I should try layering this with Lurid Library!

Looking for a BPAL that Resembles a Favorite Perfume

Soooo. Does anyone have any ideas for perfumes similar to the perfume by Orla Kiely? Here is the description, "A charming fragrance of light floral notes, with natural extracts of rose, geranium and bergamot, subtly balanced with fresh fig and a hint of chocolate." Thanks! ETA: Here is more info I found! Top notes: green tea, peach, fig and bergamot. Heart: rose, white flowers, geranium, chocolate and osmanthus. Base: musk, tonka bean, cedar and sandalwood.

Scent Recs based on your PERSONALITY!

Ok! I have already put my personality up here when I started the thread, but thought I would get all of your opinions on a scent for my boyfriend! He is a computer science and psychology major (he is particularly interested in security and how hackers think etc. etc.) that is still a pretty big engineering buff (he first majored in nanosystems engineering but then changed majors). He is particularly intrigued by the engineering of fire arms and has a love for watches, especially russian watches. Actually he has a love for russian anything, he taught himself the language even! He has always been intrigued by nature and would go fishing out on the gulf for long bouts of time with his dad. Fresh fish is one of his favorite foods because of this and he always says he would love to smell like the ocean or rain (but unfortunately everything aquatic turns to soap on him, it is sad). Carl Sagan is kind of a role model for him in a way because he loves all things science and cosmos related. Sitting on his roof and looking up at the stars is a favorite past time. Patience could be his middle name. He is really excited about one day having grey hair? Is super eclectic and extremely silly while being a bit of a clean freak. He has a huge respect for weather, and tornadoes and cockroaches tend to scare him silly. He reads more than anyone I know and is both a nerd and a geek and is quite a fan of anything steam punk. I once told him he wanted to smell like a pirate and bought him a bottle of Jolly Roger that he loves to wear. His favorite colors are khaki and tan and this kind of olive green color. Dimes are his favorite. Recently I have gotten him addicted to pineapple jalapeno pizza! He is the sweetest person I know and like I said earlier is one of the most patient. People will always come to him when they have problems, and he always listens and soothes people and helps them out when he can. He is extremely thoughtful and gets alongs really well with others while sometimes being a touch too eclectic for them. I suppose that is it! If you want to see a picture of us go to my profile! He is the guy

    Roses, Pearls, and Diamonds

Wow. This is absolutely gorgeous and may replace Whip as my favorite rose blend. Rose, coconut, and orris. Nothing cloying or too sweet just crips, clear, and almost creamy pretty. The orris and rose balance each other well (rose is a pretty strong note and orris amps on me usually) and the coconut is not the dry kind but the sweet creamy kind like in Elegba and Paduan Killer Swarm. All around amazing. After a while the orris overpowers the rose and I am left with mainly creamy orris and coconut with a light wafting of rose. This is much sweeter than whip and has an almost candy/cookie like feel to it. I have a feeling this will layer gloriously with Eat Me! For those of you who are scared of full bodied rose blends, give this a go. It has the essence of rose while being sweeter and overall calm, cool, crisp, and less rose dominant. I love this and as much as I adore Whip, will need a full bottle.

    Plague Doctor v13

In the bottle this is very herbal and green. I get may be a dash of something a bit dirty, dark, and may be even a bit spicy underneath all the greenery and herbs. Once this starts to dry the green sweetens up a bit and I feel almost like I can smell a bit of mint leaf or the crushed mint note I get from Tristran that lightens things up considerably. Minty herbs and greenery is pretty much what I smell now that it is about halfway through the dry down. The darker note from before is grounding out the blend slightly but has definitely loosened its hold. Ok, this definitely has a mint component to it, may be pennyroyal even? Now that this is close to drying completely, a warmer note comes into play and helps the herbal green notes blend with the mint. This calms the blend down in a way that it isn't so light and cooling anymore while adding another almost spicy dimension to it. Ok there must be some kind of amber or resin note in this because on the dry down I get loads of beautiful greenery and herbs (keep in mind these herbs aren't quite sour in anyway anymore) with a dash of crushed mint leaves and spices over a base of warm sweet glowing amber! Wow. What a beautiful scent. Evocative too I want to say! It may not be something I wear particularly often, but I can see wearing it often while gardening or being outside or even cooking. My boyfriend also really liked the scent for himself! This morphed like crazy on me! Oh! Also I want to say that I don't think this has the same balsam note from U Mutter Museum because the balsam in that blend completely ruined it for me, while this blend works wonderfully on me!

    Half-Elf

In the imp this is predominantly sandalwood and an overall woodsy leafy feel, can also detect some musk. It seems dry and almost bitter but not quite. Not amazing, but interesting. On my skin this immediately smooths out and becomes sweeter, thank you beeswax! As this dries the scent becomes much rounder and has this lovely soft woodsy feel. As this dries, the delicate nuances of the scent step forward. The beeswax is grounding it out and holding everything together. The musk is providing an almost smoky kind of dryness to it that plays with the sandalwood really nicely. The beeswax is definitely sweetening the blend a bit but it doesn't really show up on its own, very well blended in with everything. I can't really detect the white tea leaf either, but I'm sure it is in there somewhere making this lovely and leafy woodsy. Once this is dry it has sweetened up and is just this glowing warm woodsy sandalwood amazing-ness. Sorry for my lack of words to describe it but I have been kind of left speechless. I am a really big fan of sandalwood and beeswax so it is no surprise that I would adore this blend, but I had no idea it would be this lovely and blended so well. Lightly sweet, woodsy, round, a bit smoky, leafy and just glorious. VERDICT: I may need a bottle eventually

    The Lurid Library

I just realized I never reviewed this! A crime! Well to keep things short, sweet, and to the point, this is glorious golden musk, old dusty yellow parchment, with a light waft of incense throughout. Amazing. And SO evocative. Wet it is a bit sharp, a bit cologne-esque, definitely unisex leaning on masculine, but once this dries the scent melts into my skin and just melds together in the most beautiful of ways. It is a touch sweeter now but trust me this isn't a particularly sweet blend. It is all dry and musky and LIKE OLD WORN BOOKS. So so so so good. This would probably smell amazazing on a man (which means I need to test this out on the boy sometime soonish). For a lover of books like me, this scent is just pure love. Not to mention it is a bit sexy too
