I'm not a big fan of ginger so I was a little wary of trying this one out but I was happy to find that the ginger was barely prevalent in this at all. It's all damp, moist tropical flowers and very evocative of Hawaii. It's gentle, soft and feminine and slightly aquatic. As others have said, this would be nice for summer.

One of my all-time favorites from BPAL. My bottle is well-aged and syrupy, golden and beyond delicious. This is sweet rich honey cakes, creamy milk, and a bit of kick from the wine. It is not at all cloying and the wine is barely making itself known except for a touch of something spicy. Foody heaven!

My imp has aged for over a year and it has become a grape-y somewhat floral blend. It's very sweet and I'm assuming it's the thyme that is giving it its green edge. I get more berries than wine and I don't find it overpowering or too sweet. I like the fruity blends that come out of the Lab and the thyme keeps this one from getting too candy bubblegum-ish.

A yummy spicy apricot that is very strong. As some others have mentioned, this is slightly Yankee Candle-ish but not in a bad way. A little of this would go a very long way. The apricot is definitely at the forefront but the clove is starting to push it's way forward a bit more and it's getting more like a spicy apricot tea with every minute that goes by. It's very warm and golden, almost syrupy.

What I find fascinating and very, very cool about this blend is that it is based on a perfume Marie A herself actually wore. She is one of my favorite women in history and history certainly has not been kind to her. This blend is elegant and refined yet soft and feminine as I imagine Marie herself was. It has a bit of a bite--again, just like I would imagine that she had. It is a deep rich tea rose enrobed by a regal violet that starts off somewhat sharp but then the two mellow together in a very womanly scent.

This one certainly is bawdy and deliciously so! It is all plum and amaretto. Super fruity yet sweet without being cloying and it is drunken and boozy without making you feel like you just dumped a drink all over yourself. I love the Old West and the concept behind this blend. It's fun and spirited--definitely not for the faint of heart!

Very very VERY floral. This envelopes you like a cloud and does indeed give you a full-headed feeling that you'd get in an opium den. It's floral without going soapy and after about 20 minutes, it begins to get a bit smokier and mustier. This one is really only needed in very small doses. I made the mistake of slathering it on and I am surrounded by a sweet floral fog. Interesting!

Lemony neroli with the dry dustiness of frankincense underneath it. The frankincense took a good hour to really start to emerge but it adds a nice resiny depth and the citrusy note is gradually disappearing in place of the resins. It's quite a lot sweeter than I thought it would be and there is hardly any lavender which, for me, is a good thing since lavender is not one of my favorite scents. Definitely an interesting blend.

Tons of sugary candy with something in it that reminds me of Beaver Moon 2007 (the strawberry, I'm assuming) and also of La Befana minus the violet. This is definitely an accurate interpretation of a gigantic pillowcase full of Halloween candy. It also has a dusty, powdery and tart note to it. It is not at all cloying or overwhelming but it is very sweet. It's playful and fun, as trick or treating should be. I was hoping to get more of the buttery goodness of candy corn in this (mmm candy corn!) but it's more fruity than buttery. I'm hoping the candy corn and marshmallow emerges more as it ages and mellows out. Totally awesome foodie candy blend!

Foodie heaven! In the bottle, this is all buttery frosted orange cake, super sweet, rich and very creamy. On the inital dry down, it reminds me a bit of last year's Pumpkin V, which is one of my favorite foodie BPALs. This becomes more citrusy after about 30 minutes and then some of the anise begins to emerge. After a few hours, it is very faint and I can detect the flowers. I really love this one. Yummy!

This is so lovely and sweet. It is all honeyed milk and baby powder on me, though in the bottle the lavender is very prominent. It then becomes sweet almost to the point of being foody shortly after I put it on and continues to get sweeter after a few hours. The honeyed milk is right up at the forefront with a mixture of baby powder, and carnation. If I'm not mistaken, orris can be very sweet so I'm thinking this is what is giving this it's foody-ishness. I really love this one and it is my current favorite of the three blends that were created in honor of Lilith Victoria.

I am surprised at how little vanilla I get from this. On me, I get lots of mandarin, tea and what I am assuming is the red musk. No rose at all and I think I can detect the vanilla sweetness faintly beneath the mandarin and tea. The violet gives it a slight edge but this is not floral on me at all. This is a lot different from what I thought it'd be but I still really like it and I have a feeling it will get even better with age. Thankfully there is not too much white musk since I am not a fan of that.

I didn't get clobbered with lavender (not really a big of lavender) as some people did except in the bottle. The lavender is quite strong in the bottle but almost immediately after applying, out comes the Snake Oil only it's more like a sweet version of Snake Oil. After about half an hour, this is ALL Dorian. Now, about two hours after applying, it is still lots of Dorian and actually reminds of Black Lace after a few hours of wear. I really like this one, it's interesting and I love the blending of Snake Oil and Dorian to symbolize the birth of the little one. Lovely blend.

One of my favorites and reminds me of a big stocking full of holiday sweets and candy. This is beautifully blended and melds into a perfect combination of violets and sugary sweetness with a hint of lemon, which I am assuming is part of the candy charcoal note. This makes me feel warm and happy and transports me back to Christmas's past where my grandmother would ply us with candy. The violet is quite prominent but this isn't really floral. It's also not entirely foodie. It's just it's own entity that can't really be boxed into any scent category. Love it.

Irrelevant and Disturbing Surreal Crawdad Dream

In the bottle and right after applying, I get tons and tons of rich, ripe blueberries that are very foody and creamy, more like a dessert than just blueberries alone. Then the gorgeous red currant--one of my favorite notes--starts to emerge and it becomes a delicious mix of the blueberry and currant. After a while, the benzoin begins to show itself and mingles with something that I can't quite put my finger on and it may be the squash blossom or coriander as it becomes a bit spicy. This lasts forever and ends off with a lovely soft vanilla after hours of wear. Totally weird yet totally awesome blend. I am interested to see how it ages. -
This is all gorgeous golden orange-scented honey and blooming roses. It is so feminine and just a touch foodie on me, like a creamy orange dessert of some kind because it is quite sweet. The sandalwood grounds this one nicely and the rose is not overly floral on me at all. Jezebel is a fascinating female in history and this is a blend that matches her well. It is very subtle and just vaguely powder-ish. I dont get any greenness or any medicinal qualities, just a glowing warmth that makes this one of my all-time favorite BPALs.

Something in this smells indescribably gorgeous. I think it must be the skin musk mixing with the honey and carnation because this just smells so natural and soft. It's not soft in the sense of a floral or powdery blend, it's soft in the sense of perfumed glowing skin, literally. BPAL's honey note is one of my favorites and the honey in this blend is no exception. This scent somehow manages to be golden and glowing with the sandalwood grounding it in the background. Absolutely stunning and one of my faves.

The first thing I noticed was that the sugar in this is similar to one of the sugars in Sugar Skull 2007. It has has that lovely rich carmelized sugar undertone surrounded by blackberries/strawberries/black currants and topped off with the teak/mahogany and violet. This is not really very foodie at all, it's more like sugared fruit and that fruit is very fresh. It is not really floral on me at all and I definitely do not find it to be overly sweet. It's really complex and as it continues to wear on, it becomes muskier and fruitier. I find that it's a much different scent in the bottle than it is on my wrist, especially after about 30 minutes of wearing it.

This starts off slightly sharp and vaguely medicinal but don't be fooled--it quickly unveils itself as a very soft, gentle rose blend that is very feminine and a bit sweet. It comes off as very pure. I don't find this one overly floral and it does not go at all soapy on me, though it does go slightly powdery (not a bad thing). It is very delicate and simply pretty. I think I will be reaching for this one often.

2007 version: Delicious carmelized sugar! This is a foodie lover's paradise. Very dark and rich sugar with hint of spice, sort of like muscovado or turbinado sugar. It even has an almost-cookie-ish undertone and a tinge of booziness. It is not toothache overwhelming sweet but as I said, it is rich, dark, deep and delicious. And it lasts for hours! Love it.

Very thick, rich and spicy. On me, I am getting a lot of dragon's blood and clove with a woody undertone. It is quite dark and very smooth and also has a surprising metallic undertone to it. Clove can be so gorgeously warm and gives this blend a bit of heat. During the drydown, I am starting to detect the faintest whiff of cherry. BPAL's cherry is one of my favorite notes so I am hoping the cherry becomes more prominent on me. I think Beth really captured the essence of blood--someone's rich and very luxurious blood--in this one.

Very, very spicy blend. The honey really sweetens this up and on me, it's all cloves and honey. I don't get too much patchouli in this one. The clove is quite strong and I think I can detect the fig starting to emerge. I love all of BPALs honey blends because they are so warm. The honey in this seems very rich and thick. The ylang ylang keeps it from becoming foody and gives it a touch of femininity. It starts off really strong and is now softening itself up and starting to show more of the notes.

2007 version: I am getting a delicious, almost gingerbread-y note from this with the wine grapes underneath. I've had it since Yule of last year and it has aged beautifully, becoming more foody over the months. It is quite spicy and very decadent and reminiscent of an ancient festival. The description of wine-soaked offeratory cakes that others have given is pretty accurate. So warm and sweet! I can only imagine how much better this will get as it continues to age.

Lots and lots of fruity and tart pomegranate wine. During the drydown, the hyssop and barley really start to emerge and the sweetness is tempered. It's amazing how quickly the barley and hyssop are coming out and there is now an earthy graininess to this blend that gives it an almonst incense-y spice feeling, if that makes sense. It really does remind me of ancient Egypt and of the poem itself.

In the bottle and immediately after applying, this smells unbelievably like egg nog. And a very boozy egg nog, at that! Shortly after drying, it changes into a sweet yummy creamy foodie blend that smells like some kind of vanilla baked good. I still get the spiciness of the nutmeg underneath it which keeps it from becoming overly sweet and gives it some depth. I just can't believe how much like egg nog this smells.
