Jarek Report post Posted November 11 (edited) @ShadowEtienne Wow thank-you so much! Yes, Cthulhu is really fantastic, and I'm very tempted to get the beard oil as well, though I only grow out a beard sometimes. If I had hair left I'd get it as a hair gloss (if that were available) too. xD Nyarlathotep and Lightning are in my "interested in trying out" private wishlists, and I will definitely consider these two specifically for my next order from BPAL. I'm quite interested in aquatics in general, and the overall Arkham series, in fact I have three more from that series though with very different scent profiles to still try from my last order. I had not picked up on potentially liking Night-Gaunt, I'm less certain I'll like florals but Vicomte de Valmont has florals and today I just tried Veil (sandalwood & florals) and I quite enjoy that, so I appreciate the suggestion very much! (Not to mention I did not realise it's potentially in the same scent family!) And thank-you so very much for the suggestions from the discontinued and LE scents, including the further Arkham series ones, but also just all of them. I will add them to my posted wishlist and keep an eye out for them from folks selling from their collections. :3 Edited November 11 by Jarek Share this post Link to post
ShadowEtienne Report post Posted November 11 @Jarek BPAL'S Beard Oil formulation is fantastic (at least for my skin and beard). It properly saturates my rather thick beard without making it greasy, and it smells nice and has scents other than face planted into trees (which has its place but is often too strong and not what I'm going for). For the most part, I've found the Beard Oil to be slightly more mildly scented than its perfume counterpart which I appreciate with it being right on my face. Good luck with the finding of the harder to find perfumes! Share this post Link to post
omnistraight Report post Posted November 21 Hey there, hope I'm not too late to post to this, but I'm looking for some new scents to try, preferrably more masculine ones, since my top two are out of stock. Following illuviel's layout for this cause I found it really helpful! Top 5 Faves: Antikythera Mechanism: teakwood, oak, black vanilla, and tobacco. Tied for 1st. Nothing but compliments when I wear this one Santo Domingo: tobacco leaf, bay rum and heady Caribbean blossoms. Tied for 1st. One of my favorites to smell on myself, makes me feel strangely powerful, like I've got nothing but time. Perversion: smoky rum and black tobacco with a whisper of steamy leather with a splash of crystalline chardonnay, layered over a sensual, sweet, and deceptively magnetic base of tonka. Date night go to! Tlazolteotl: chapapote and black copal with cacao, black honey, maize, and cotton blossoms. First scent I ever tried - a gift from a friend - and quickly fell in love with BPAL over. Not a scent I would have considered on my own, but I get a lot of compliments on it also. Bewitched: blackberry, sage, green tea, wild berries and dark musk. Another scent I was surprised to enjoy as much as I do. I wear it or Dee when I'm in the office, since they both have something light about them that makes me feel a bit more professional than my heavier go-tos. Currently wearing: Sin: amber, sandalwood, black patchouli and cinnamon. The first time I put this on it felt like I was trying to wear a costume, but after trying it again few years later, it's really challenging Bewitched for a spot on my top 5. Notes that I know work: tobacco, rum, cinnamon, clove, bourbon, tonka, woods. vanilla and leather also, but it's always a toss up if they'll overpower the rest of the scent on me. Scents/Notes that haven't worked for me: Fighter & Brimstone: Both of these were instant headaches. Troll & Black Forest: I really wanted these two to work, but something about both of them just went full tar/pitch on my skin and I needed to wash them off imediately. Aquatic Scents: Hit really soapy & sunscreen-y on my skin. (i.e. Jolly Rodger) Floral Based Scents: Florals in the mix are fine, but most floral based scents go really powdery on me and smell too feminine. (Esp Rose and Jasmine) Thanks in advance yall! sudenmorsian Report post Posted November 22 (edited) Hi @omnistraight! It seems we have quite similar taste, I too love Antikythera, Perversion and Sin, and I'm not into aquatics. Actually my taste of perfume has gotten my husband to fell in love with BPAL too I gave him Antikythera Mechanism and after that his collection has evolved quite a lot. I wonder if you would like Port Royal (Spiced rum and ship’s wood mixed with the body-warmed trace of a prostitute’s perfume and a hint of salty sea air on the dry-down). Even there's "salty sea air" mentioned I don't find it aquatic at all. It's a bit spicy, woody and rum is noticeable if not very loud. This is one of my husband's favorites and I really like it on him. Another one I'm thinking is Ian (shaggy leather, sweet rum absolute, and patchouli). Leather isn't too strong in my opinion (I too have mixed feelings with leather). I was going to suggest Troll but sadly it didn't work for you! But maybe Golden Priapus (vanilla and amber with juniper, rosewood and white pine) would work..? I know there's pine but I've found it quite subtle in this one. Amber and rosewood are more on top. Oh and Wilde (A sophisticated traditional gentleman’s cologne, with just the slightest taint of patchouli’s passion, tonka bean’s decadence, the philanthropy of bergamot, moss’ cynicism, the sharp wit of lavender, and the hopeless romantic longing of jasmine and thyme)!
