BPAL Madness!

Recommended Posts

Cracked leather and faded ink, dust-heavy pages steeped in echoes of prayer. Beeswax candles gutter in the shadows, their pale, amber light feebly holding back the dark. Low murmurs of frankincense and oakmoss anchor the stern hush of eternity.

this opens with leather and dusty pages. i also get something slightly rubbery, i think it's the ink. i was hoping for an ambery beeswax with hints of the other notes but no, it's the first three notes only until about 45 minutes later i get a bit of beeswax and maybe oakmoss. overall it's paper/ink heavy on my skin with leather. interesting, but ultimately not for me.

On application, I definitely get the rubbery quality mentioned by @theseagrows. It reminds me very much of the rubberiness of Babycat by YSL. I think this is coming from some combo of beeswax & ink. The leather is also very present in the wet stage, followed by paper. As it dries this mellows into a very creamy blend of yellowing paper and beeswax, drenched in thick black ink. The leather only wafts in from time to time on me. Amber and oakmoss transform this from a realistic leather bound tome into the artist's hazy interpretation of the scene. No sharp edges, just impressions in a dimly lit room.

I have a feeling this one is going to be a real beauty as it ages.

I received a tester of this in a decant order.

This is mostly about the leather on me, and it's a strong black leather. I also get some rubberiness from it, which I agree is probably from the leather combining with the ink. The dusty pages are present, but I'm not getting any beeswax or any sweetness from this whatsoever. And that strong leather really could have used some beeswax goodness along with it! Maybe it's just my skin running away with the leather?

I'm glad that I was able to try it, but I wouldn't reach for this over sweet book scents like Jólabókaflóð or Picture Books in Winter.
