doomsday_disco Report post Posted August 21 (edited) The tiniest of dragons, these flirty, silly, and theatrical beasts build their nests in gilded opera boxes, toy stores, and above confectionaries and sweet shops. Their scales blaze like a handful of maraschino cherries and red currants bathed in fluorescent lighting, sparkling with sugar crystals and drizzled with vanilla liqueur. doomsday_disco Report post Posted September 10 (edited) I am reviewing the scent after I sprayed it on a paper towel, but will update this post with throw and longevity in wet and dry hair if I do end up testing it out in my hair. I bought a bottle of this hoping I would love it just as much as Dragon Bouffant HG, which was a Dragon Con exclusive of yore that sold out pretty quickly. My bottle of that one is not long for this world, so I am hoping to find another cherry hair gloss that could fill that void when it is gone. Based off of the notes, I thought that this would be a sure win and was the Dragon Con exclusive that I was most looking forward to this year. But you know when there's a descriptor in a scent and you're not sure if it is just poetic fluff or an actual note? Well, when I originally read the description and the reviews from people who sniffed it at the con, I had figured that the fluorescent lighting was just poetic fluff. But it's not. And it's a note that hovers over the rest of the scent. What does the fluorescent lighting note smell like? Well, it smells like a firework mixed with what I believe is the glowing amber of the blow mold scents. It was actually my partner who pointed out the firework aspect and said this smells like a sparkler that was just lit. I think that is a very apt description of this accord. I didn't try Pumpkin Sparklers, but I can't help but wonder if Beth happened to use whatever accord she used in that scent and incorporated it into this one, like she has been doing with her perfected lipstick accord in the various make-up scents that have been released since then (according to other reviewers). Beneath the sparkler-esque fluorescent lighting note, there is an absolutely lovely candy-like cherry note accompanied by the sugar crystals and a dry-smelling vanilla liqueur. I'm not really getting the currant, although I suspect it is lurking beneath the cherry. If it were not for the fluorescent lighting note hovering over the other notes, I think I would love this. The cherries and sugar smell exquisite. I'm going to hold onto the bottle and see if I can come to love it despite the unexpected industrial note in this. But if the Lab ever releases another sugary cherry scent sans a sparkler-like note, I will probably end up grabbing it and destashing this one. ETA: I get the firework note only when this is applied to wet hair, but fortunately, the scent doesn't really last very long. In dry hair, after the initial firework blast, I do smell the lovely cherry -- but I can't comment on the longevity because I got busy and forgot to pay attention to that throughout the day.
