The Seventh Veil

For the first half hour, The Seventh Veil is a cold fir and warm woodsmoke thing that makes me think of Christmas, and then a tart fruit punch joins in with something rubbery-leathery.  Over time, the fruit punch shifts into more of an actual blood smell on my skin, metallic and creepily off, but in a good way.  Then, a couple hours later, it mostly reads as just a soft woodsmoke and maybe sandalwood on my skin.  Not my favorite but I don't tend to like smoky scents.

Warm and sweet... I'm getting a lot of dragon's blood, maybe some amber.  I thought I got a hint of cinnamon, but I'm not sure.  Very pleasant!

Something sweet and grapey, something clean and powdery, perhaps even silky. Something is clean and cold and glittering here, but I can’t but my finger on it. This is a really nebulous fragrance that I struggle to describe due to its complexity and uniqueness. There is a bit of a grapey undertone when wet, perhaps like wine?        
 

This is everything I wanted and more and I have *weird* dreams when I wear this. Like dreams that feel so real I genuinely think they are and am shocked when I awake. The other night I was standing on the edge of a cliff somewhere in aberdeen scotland with the wind just absolutely buffeting my face as a storm blew in. I could smell the thick creamy lanolin scent of my woolen sweater and the petrichor and grass. My hair whipped against my skin and it actually like physically stung. I’ve never experienced real pain in a dream before.

 

Has anyone else ever experienced things like this with non-magical blends from BPAL?????? i’m like genuinely freaked out.

I know it doesn't help anyone much to review this blend after it's gone down, but I have been trying to make sense of it for months now! It's a tricky one to figure out.

 

I definitely get strong resinous notes, certainly amber, possibly another resin, along with a sweet red fruitiness (red currant?) and a soft metallic sensibility. I definitely get a lot of musk here, though I don't think I could say what color. As it dries down, the fruitiness fades, and the musk becomes the center of the scent. Definitely red and gold, as in the description, definitely regal and queenly, but at the same time somehow hazy and undefined by comparison with other bpals I have with overlapping notes and qualities.

 

I like this, and wear my decant occasionally, but something in it doesn't quite come together on me, and I ended up not going for a bottle. I'm not sure if it feels like it needs something additional, or if I'd want the balance of the notes to be slightly different and more intense, but either way it feels like it doesn't quite hit the mark for me. I'm glad though to have my decant and will continue to wear and contemplate it.
