I had no idea how embarrassingly olde my previous entries were. How do you feel about stationery, like nice pens or notepaper? And if you're in favor, do you prefer classic/contemporary or cutesy stuff? I would love to have some Calling Cards to write on, as the lost art of the hand-written note is something I am terribly neglectful of. As for the design, I'm flexible! I also love to write with felt-tip pens, and getting those in fun colors are always nice. If you've got stuff on your BPAL wishlist, would partial bottles be okay? Are you kidding? ABSOLUTELY! Say you were my witchee, and I found things on your wishlist that I could totally make. Would you want me to make it? Or would you rather it be purchased for you? If you could totally make it, and you WANTED to make it? I would be tickled pink! What about vintage decoration items, teacups, etc etc? Our house definitely has a vintage aesthetic (as do we), though when it comes to decoration items gifts like these would be more likely to wind up in my office, which has no aesthetic. With regards to your gifts, would you prefer your presents' awesomeness evenly spread out (several packages of pretty terrific things) over the round or a slow build-up of awesomeness (going up from pretty cool things to something super-duper cool at the end) to go out with a bang? Do you have a preference? I do not have a preference, and so whatever is most convenient for my Witch is perfectly fine with me. What kind of make-up do you wear? What colors? Is there anything you'd like to try but haven't yet? I'll wear damn near anything. My makeup kit has both high-end and drug-store items in it, depending on what I need. I do also formulate my own makeup for personal use, but I always like to be enabled by new etailers (especially for loose eyeshadows). Do you like maple sugar candy? Nom. Who would be on your top 5 (IE famous people you’d date/have relations with) Okay, I don't really fantasize much about boning any celebrity, but Christina Hendricks (Joan of Mad Med) is TOTALLY RIGHT UP THERE. Holy Gods, what a woman. Others celebrity crushes include (my "TV boyfriend") Hugh Laurie, Olivia Wilde (Thirteen, also of House), Christopher Gorham (hominahominahomina), and Michael C. Hall (but only as Dexter). For holidays, do you decorate? Would you like decorative stuff, weenie or otherwise? If so, do you lean towards the elegant, the crafty/folksy, or the more, erm, campy? Last year, at work, we had an office-decorating contest for Halloween. My office windows were smeared in stage blood, there was an outline of a body in the floor, and crime scene tape on the walls. So yeah, I'd say I totally go for elegance when I'm decorating. Homemade bath products YES PLZ! Are you a foodie? Absolutely. I love to cook and to play with new flavors in the kitchen (though ATM just thinking about food makes me a little nauseated -- thanks, oxycodone. At least I can always keep black beans and rice down!). Vampire shows, literature, etc? Yay or nay? It has to be "good" vampire stuff, though what that means is highly subjective and difficult to define. I can tell you I enjoy True Blood, Buffy The Vampire Slayer, 30 Days of Night, and the Blade movies (okay, the first 2). Soundtracks you'd like? I was actually thinking about how I'd like the True Blood soundtrack, or songs featured in the show. If you could see one concert right now, who would it be?Lady Gaga. I am not ashamed. If you witch made you something and it didn't come out just right, would you still want it? Totally! I know how freakishly perfectionistic I am, but if you put a lot of time and effort into something and were worried that it wasn't "quite" perfect, please don't be. I'd be thrilled just the same! Would you like homemade preserves (e.g. marinated vegies, pickled onions, chilli jam)? Oooo, chili jam does sound good. I love spicy stuffs, but not so sure about the pickled/marinated veggies.

What movie scared the bejeezus out of you as a child? Dark Crystal. I /still/ cannot watch that movie without freaking the hell out. Aughra = TERRIFYING. (and that's another skill I would like to pick up, learning how to manipulate balls like that.) Comfort rereads? Heh. Pretty much anything on my bookshelf is a comfort reread. Box? No thanks, I'm set. Favorite Halloween candy? My mom makes the awesomest cinnamon popcorn. Storebought - I lurves the Reeses pumpkins. Also Dove dark chocolate. And Snickers bars. Please do not give me too much candy though, dear Witch, as I'm working towards my weight loss goals and some days I don't have a lot of willpower. ETA: I totally wouldn't mind an astrological workup. My relevant info /is/ on the forums. favorite Muppet: from the Muppet Show I was always partial to Beaker, Swedish Chef, and Kermit. If we're also including Sesame Street, then Ernie was my hands-down favorite as a child, followed by Herry, Grover, and Frazzle. Going anywhere during the round? Sadly no. Wanted to get up to Canada for Thanksgiving, but that's just not going to happen. Stupid 'extra' expenses. So no October travels for me. School/classes: Not in school, but the CEU (continuing education units) monster is always wanting to be fed. I would also like to go back to school for esthetics, but first things first - gotta put the husband through nursing school.

Things that have been on serious repeat recently: American Idiot: the Original Broadway Cast Recording, The Airborne Toxic Event, Muse, Tom McRae, Okkervil River, Richard Thompson. Is there any country you particularly like, or are interested in? Hungary, Italy, Norway, France, England, Greece, China, Morocco, Egypt, Thailand, Vietnam, Japan, India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Peru, Poland, Czech Republic, Russia, Kazakhstan, Turkey, and I'd like to visit Israel and Germany and Holland and Spain and Portugal and Korea and Singapore at some point... [Okay, top 6: Hungary because I loved Budapest, Italy because I loved Rome and Venice and Florence and basically everything, Norway because I want to see the fjords very badly (and I love glaciers), China because of my heritage and studies, and... France and England because I've always wanted to visit them and I know I'd love both their cities and their countryside. But I'm interested in tons of other places, too.] Are you a foodie? I am! What's your favorite sport/team/player? I'm not really much of a sports fan, alas. I do like figure skating a lot (current favorite figure skater is probably Adam Rippon or Daisuke Takahashi), and am secretly fond of hockey despite not really following it. It's my favorite team sport to see live, though. My loyalty goes to Minnesota teams, primarily. For holidays, do you decorate? Would you like decorative stuff, weenie or otherwise? I like elegant the most, but crafty, folksy, and campy can all be appealing, depending. Do you like journals/notebooks/sketchbooks? I do! I love journals, especially ones with blank paper or graph paper (though lined is also fine); I've actually been on the hunt for a tiny journal or notebook to carry around with me as my Moleskine is just about filled up. I like bigger ones, too! I also like sketchbooks, and have been thinking about getting back into pastels/pencils/charcoal -- I miss doing art (even though I'm not super great at it... but I enjoy it). I definitely prefer classic/contemporary in stationary, elegant and clean, but sometimes cute stuff will appeal to me, and might well get used because I know the person I'm writing to likes it. Would you like homemade preserves (e.g. marinated vegies, pickled onions, chilli jam?). I think so? I am sometimes iffy on pickled stuff, but the other two examples sound pretty good to me. I love partials because it's fun to see the bottle art! But I love decants/imps and bottles, too. It's all good! To visit, there are a lot of places that would be fun to see (assuming some way of dealing with language issues... and also possibly some way of disguising my sex and race...), but I don't think I'd want to go back to any point in the past and actually stay there and live out the rest of my life. I'm too attached to modern convenience, communication, medicine, travel, other technology, and social mores, and too much of a historian to have a utopian view of the past. The percentage chance of being anything but a starving peasant is just too low. However! If I were forced to choose a place and time... Tang Dynasty China (or perhaps Han Dynasty), Athens during the Age of Pericles, Shanghai in the 1920s and 30s, or Renaissance Italy. Favorite Halloween Candy/Treat? In terms of typical things actually acquired during Trick-or-Treating: Snickers, Almond Joy, Reeses Pieces, Reese Peanut Butter Cups (I love the enormous holiday ones!), Peanut or Almond or Peanut Butter M&Ms, Andes Mints, those mini Toblerones, Hershey's milk chocolate with almonds, Almond Hershey's Kisses, Kit Kats. I guess I check Ideeli fairly often, and I read Tom and Lorenzo at Project Rungay ~ weekly now that the season's going. Do you like the Muppets? Which is your favorite? I do (I watched so much Muppet Babies as a kid!). My favorites are probably Rowlf and Animal, though I do like Kermit and Miss Piggy and Beaker and Fozzie and the Sam the Eagle, and many of the others as well. If you could have any creature (real or imaginary) as a pet, what would it be? Possibly a jhereg from Steven Brust's Dragaera books, or Alanna's black cat (though I think that's probably cheating!). Maybe a dragon. As for real creatures, I don't know if a housecat can really be beat as a practical pet. If you are in school now, what classes are you taking? Does anything you are currently studying really interest you? (if you are not in school, is there anything you are trying to learn?) I'm not in school right now, because I quit the PhD program I was in a little while back and am still kind of traumatized. I still like East Asian Studies and History (it was a Chinese History degree program) and libraries, I just don't want to deal with academia for the rest of my life. Things I'm trying to learn: see the "what hobby/craft I want to learn" question. Also possibly some graphic design or photography, and I'm thinking about librarian/archivist sorts of things. Will you be going out of town during the round, or is there any other time during the round when it would not be ideal for you to receive a package from your Witch? A big cat (panther or tiger or puma, probably) or possibly a raven, or quite likely a bear. I especially like goth-steampunk hybrids in terms of colors and styles and moods. I like gears and keys as motifs; gears that work and add function are especially cool, but I do just like how they look as well, particularly if they are delicate and real. I am also by intrigued Victorian shapes in dresses and boots and such. Would you like a bag of dried Honeycrisp apples? Ooooh, yes, please! Honeycrisp is one of my favorite apple varieties (and created by my home state, go Minnesota!). I love love love a good apple. I like dried fruit in general, too. When I lived in a place that had Trader Joe's, I used to get this dried berry medley that had strawberries, blueberries, and cherries, YUM. I miss it so much. But I like other kinds of dried fruit as well! And fresh fruit, of course, and even canned fruit and frozen fruit... I am easy for fruit. If you were to receive a knitted item (such as a scarf, hat, etc), what colors would you like? And do you have any sensitivies/allergies to any materials? I think I covered this preemptively in answers to previous questions. I don't have any specific allergies, but some wool is scratchy (while others are lovely), and I tend to prefer natural fibers, the softer the better, the more lightweight the better. If I were to send you a gift certificate for something would you rather get a physical gift certificate in the mail? Or would you prefer an electronic one that you can use right away? Either's fine. Favorite Yankee Candles? Or other brands' scents? (I make my own candles too, but sometimes have money to spend on others) I don't know much about Yankee Candles, but in general I like all the scents I like in BPAL, plus some of the more foody scents that sometimes go amiss on my skin. Spicy and vanilla-y is always good! Homemade candles would be most welcome, too! Which brings me to a question: would you like a zuni animal fetish? And if so, what animal? Sure! Most likely a bear, but I would also be psyched for a mountain lion or wolf. A badger or mole or bobcat or snake or buffalo would also be neat... or eagle or coyote or turtle or frog or owl or bird... or deer or antelope or mountain sheep or elk or horse or beaver... Color and texture and aesthetics are just as important to me as the animal. And how does everyone feel about glow in the dark radishes? CUTE! Cake or frosting? CAKE! Unless we're talking super spectacular (key component: not too sugary) frosting (cream cheese frosting, mmmmmmmmmmm), in which case, both! Cake Truffles, interested? and if YES! Cake/icing/chocolate preferences: Yes! Cream cheese icing is my favorite, but I also like fudge and strawberry, anything that's not too super sweet, though I do also like glazes. Cake, I like pretty much alllllllllll cake. Are you interested in mini bottles(under 100ml for hand luggage) of bath and body products? YES! I travel quite a bit, so these would be super useful. Favorite vampire stories: Let the Right One In (the movie), Drawing Blood and Lost Souls by Poppy Z Brite, the Vampire: the Requiem game a friend of mine ran. Vampires do the opposite of sparkle. Seriously. Let's just say my favorite True Blood character is Eric because he is both super hot and deliciously amoral. I have not been impressed with the latest wave of vampire fiction -- Twilight is a huge no, Southern Vampire series by Harris is a huge no, Vampire Academy is a meh, Anita Blake (despite being kinda addictive) is a meh (except for Obsidian Butterfly because I loved Edward so); the Kim Harrison ones were pretty good but seemed to be kinda going downhill... I was okay with Interview with a Vampire but those went downhill too... But I am willing to try more! I like the idea of vampires, I like many things about them... Would you prefer clothing or costume pieces? If so, what would items would you like? I have a very slight preference for clothing, but I love costume pieces, too, so both are very very welcome. I would LOVE a fascinator, and hair things are always good, and generally things like jewelry and fancy gloves. If you play console video games, what game systems do you have and what games would you love to have? I do, though not super regularly. The Boys have all the current consoles and also a PS2. I suspect that any game I'd want, they'd already have bought, though; sorry. Ooh, unless you find a cheap copy of three kingdoms 8? And if we move into PC games, well, I play the Sims (3) and would love Sim related stuff or good games along those lines, or puzzle games, or old school games (I've been having a strange yearning to play Rampage, for example). How do you all feel about flowers and plants? Flower and plant seeds? Drawings of flowers or plants? Pressed flowers? I am death to flowers and plants, sad as it makes me. I'm in a better place to take care of one now, though, so maybe I'd be up for giving it a shot. Maybe herbs for the kitchen? I would love drawings of flowers of plants, especially those kind of classical botanical drawings. Pressed flowers, or fresh flowers in a vase or something along those lines, would be lovely, too. How do you feel about marzipan? I like it, though I can be picky about it. Pure marzipan can be a little overwhelming or too sweet, and fake almond flavoring is a sadness. But sometimes I really like it (especially if it's more almondy and less sweet)! I love almonds and natural almond flavored things in general. If you could have 3 BPAL bottles fall (gently) out of the sky right this second that you've been looking for or pining for - which 3 would they be? Pumpkin Queen, Geek.Goth, Tomoe Gozen. Are there any international treats that you love and have a hard time finding? Yummy Asian drinks and hard candies and black sesame candy! The more unusual Dolfin chocolate bars, Ritter butter biscuit chocolate bars. I'm sure there are more but that's what's occurring to me right now. [ETA: Also Ritter Cornflake bars, Ritter Whole Hazelnut bars, and Vosges Bars] Are there any soundtracks that you'd like? Yes! 2046, In the Mood for Love, Fallen Angels (the Wong Kar-Wai film), Newcastle, Mysterious Skin, Brick, Whip It, Zombieland, Shortbus, Were the World Mine, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Across the Universe, Working (the musical), Guys and Dolls, Wicked, 1776, the current revival of Promises, Promises. I'm sure there are more, too. I'm fond of soundtracks! Is there anything from the 'Ween BPTP update that you would like but haven't ordered for yourself? Ginger Skulls and Treatsy Bath Oil, but most likely I'll order those. Bogle looks interesting, as does An T-Samhuinn soap, and I'd love a little Slaugh to send to a friend of mine, and a bit of Halloween: New Orleans to try and to send to a different friend. Nut Crack Night and Samhain would both be lovely, as would Jack soap and Rimmon soap and Sagardoa soap, and Pumpkin Pie bath oil. Social networks: LJ and Twitter are both jencallisto, though I haven't posted in awhile (though you'll get a pretty good idea of me from my older posts, probably) and I don't really use Twitter for anything but playing Echo Bazaar. I do have a Facebook, but I don't really use it much, either. Clothing sizes: XL, in general (women's sizes). If a top is stretchy enough, or cut in a particular way, sometimes size L. (For example, in BPTP and Jinx.com shirts, I'm almost always an XL. For skirts I'm in the size 16-18 range at the moment. I don't usually wear unisex clothes b/c I'm far too curvy, and some styles of women's clothes also don't really work (hence one of the reasons I basically never wear pants except for pajama pants). Stretchy is good, shape is good. Anything that's basically just a rectangle won't work; anything that assumes I'm a B-cup or don't have hips also won't work, anything top that's too long is iffy (I'm rather short and have a relatively short torso -- the longer length tees tend to look strange on me). (For example, I love some of the shirt designs on Threadless, but have sadly discovered I can't wear their women's tees at all because they're too square and not stretchy enough for my body shape.) Also, an addendum to my Questionnaire -- I know I said I usually wear skirts, and that's true, but I would adore pajama bottoms for lounging around the house, especially ones made of thinner material. XL in those, I believe, or possibly XXL. I like nightgowns and long nightshirts and such, too. Actually, just in general, material as light as possible -- I overheat really easily. Mix cds: YES! I love love love getting new music to try listening to. [it occurs to me I should've mentioned this in the "least favorite music" part of the Questionnaire -- I'm pretty averse to pop country music (it often falls into the "bubblegum pop" category in my head even though I guess it's technically country), though I like some bluegrass and old school, classic country a lot. In the "favorite music" part, I forgot to note that I love oldies! And the album I'm currently listening to over and over is American Idiot: Original Broadway Cast Recording because I saw the musical (twice!) in NYC last month and absolutely adored it.] Halloween plans? Nothing is planned yet, so who knows. How does everyone feel about handmade soft things? Whether they are plushies, knit scarves, gloves, etc? I'd adore plushies! Scarves and gloves... well. I live in a part of Texas, where winter is like a mythical creature. I'd much prefer to be cold than to be warm, but I don't get to be cold very often here. So thick scarves and gloves would get almost no use (sometimes I go to Minnesota for the winter holidays, but even then the really thick ones are not my preferred style). Thin ones, especially if made out of super-soft, non-scratchy material, I might get more use out of, and would probably just enjoy more. I also like knee-high (or higher) socks to wear with my skirts sometimes, though, if those count as soft things, and also shawls. I know those are a bit of a commitment to hand-knit, though. Girlieness: The definition of girly is kind of confusing sometimes. I guess I'm more girly than some, with the skirt-wearing and long hair and affection for baths and all, but I don't really think of myself as girly. I like dark colors! I am too lazy to primp! So I don't know. Addedum: I don't wear heels unless they are super well-balanced and sturdy; overall I much prefer flats. I don't really like the color pink in most cases. I like some shiny, sparkly thing, but honestly I tend to prefer things to be pretty and elegant or in-your-face -- for example, I prefer most of my punk/goth stuff without the sparkles. Also, I am a huge book and gamer geek, though honestly I know plenty of book and gamer geeks who are pretty girly, much more than I am, so. Yeah. All a bit confusing because people have such different ideas of what it means. For example, when I say I don't primp, I mean sometimes I leave the house without having brushed my hair and sometimes I forget to use even basic lip balm to make my lips less cracked, much less anything like lip gloss or other actual cosmetics. Even for special occasions I don't usually do much more than brush my hair and put on lip gloss, and that's only if I remember, which I usually don't. And I never shave my legs or pluck my eyebrows or anything along those lines. Are you into Austen's books? Yup, I love Pride & Prejudice, and I like her other books, too. Do you read Tarot cards? If not, would you be interested? I own a Haindl deck and really like it, but I don't really do much actual reading. I wouldn't mind getting more into it and there are some really pretty decks I'd be interested in trying. I am not, I will note, a believer per se -- I am essentially agnostic on the subject -- but I find them fascinating. So for those of you who are into Harry Potter at all, which house do you think you'd be sorted into? I am so Ravenclaw it's not even funny. What, if anything, is your guilty TV watching pleasure? I'm not much into feeling guilty about the things I enjoy. The few reality shows I watch, perhaps (Project Runway, So You Think You Can Dance, Dancing with the Stars). I watch a ton of scripted TV, too. I guess of those, True Blood would be the closest a guilty pleasure? But mostly, I am proud to claim the shows I watch! If you cosplay or need a costume for your bellydance/burlesque hobby (or any other hobby which needs dressup/different from your normal wear), is there anything you need/want for it? The only thing I'm currently doing along these lines in goth clubbing (and that not as often as I'd like, either); anything along those lines would be adored. Skirts that twirl (and yet aren't pleated at the waist) are always desired (especially if they are black, but some other colors might be good, too). I've been thinking about getting back into bellydancing, so accessories for that might be neat. If I can find a LARP group around here, then I'll probably have more costuming needs then... E-books: I generally prefer actual, physical books, but I would be all right with e-books if my Witch sees something he or she would particularly want me to have in that format. I like a ton of art styles. Especially almonds and peanuts (honey-roasted, spicy, just plain, etc), but I like mixed nuts, too. Fruit! So many different kinds of fruit. Also sesame sticks, garlic rye chips, sharp cheddar cheese (or herbed cream cheese, or pepperjack) and crackers or triscuits, baked sour cream and cheddar potato chips, veggie chips. And, well, chocolate. I find chocolate with nuts in is especially satisfying! I like greek yogurt with honey, also, and granola. Oh, and toast with butter or peanut butter or honey or preserves! And I have an unfortunate weakness for cheetos. And reeses pieces and peanut butter cups. And a lot of other stuff, too! For those who decorate for Halloween, do you prefer cute decorations or creepy ones? I don't do much decorating, but I think I'm mostly more into creepy than cute, but cute is sometimes good, too. Creepy and cute is awesome. I think spooky is even better than creepy, but I prefer elegant to all of those. Also, as part of the cute-or-creepy question, would you want hand made, molded, glazed (by yours truly!) ceramic decorations (napkin rings, potporri/tart warmers, etc) to add to your stock? Sure! And, separately, how do you feel about mortars and pestles? I would love a mortar and pestle set. What hobby/craft would you like to learn how to do? Soap making, bath supply making, jewelry making. If we're talking about skills, too, then I desperately want to start taking dance lessons again, modern/contemporary, ballroom, bellydance, flamenco, tap, maybe even hip hop... I've been planning to buy a car soon, so maybe auto mechanics, and i've been wanted to take a motorcycle safety course for years now, though who knows when that'll ever happen. I can't think of anything that's not something that probably most people would find squicky (and I like some things other people don't, like spiders, though are other kinds of bugs and creepy crawlies I don't particularly like). Oh, yes, I'm not very fond of clowns, though I don't know that I'd call it a phobia, per se. Personally, I would love getting something similar to one of my favorites, even if it is not the same - what say all of you? How picky are you? Generally I'm in favor of things that are similar but not necessarily exactly the same. Do you wear make up? Hardly ever, but I do wear lip gloss occasionally, and I experiment with lipstick, lip liner, lip stains, etc every once in a while. I wear blush very occasionally, too, and bronzer might be good for shading, and powder for controlling shine (my skin is East Asian, medium-tan-ish, warm undertone, combination). Eyeshadow and eyeliner, I like, but almost never wear (and yet I covet it!); mascara I basically don't wear, as it interferes with my glasses. Disney movies, Yay or Nay, and favourites if you do like them? I like them, in general. Beauty and the Beast is probably my favorite, though I do like Lady and the Tramp and the Robin Hood with the foxes a lot, too. And I tend to really like Pixar movies -- Up and Ratatouille are my favorites of those. (And I love Miyazaki (and other Studio Ghibli) movies! I like quite a lot of anime and manga in general.) And, as a secondary question, I adore icons for LJ/dreamwidth/forums/etc use, but suck at making them myself. Anyone else in the same boat, who would like custom icons as a gift? Yes, indeed! DVD, BluRay, VHS: I don't have a VHS player; DVD or BluRay are both fine. What is something you use to comfort yourself when feeling yucky, depressed, or in pain? Music (listening to it, or singing), tea, chocolate (sometimes hot chocolate), bath w/ salts/bubbles/bath bombs/bath oils/scents/etc, re-reading my favorite books or stories, going out to one of my favorite restaurants for a comfort meal, watching (or re-watching) a movie I know I'll like, sometimes going somewhere pretty and sitting with a book... A massage if I can get one. Oh, and I also have a gel eye mask that feels pretty good and can help with headaches; ice packs or cool cloths help sometimes, too, or sitting near a fan, because I overheat so easily. And ginger ale or mint tea sometimes helps with stomachaches, while very localized heat sometimes helps with cramps. Plus, BPAL's Baku scent can relax my whole body if I'm feeling too tense or wound up. Socks? I wear socks very rarely. When I do, I prefer knee-high socks (in dark, gothy colors), though I'd be interested in trying thigh-high ones, also (stretchy ones in both cases, because I have fairly wide calves and thighs, and thinner is generally better than thicker). I do wear regular black socks with my Docs, as well, but they're boring and black for a reason, and are almost completely obscured by the boots. I guess I might wear fun socks with my Docs as long as the colors and themes are dark & gothy? Mostly I wear sandals, though, the curse of living in an overly warm climate. ETA: Oh! I do have one sock-related desire: I once had a pair of super super soft lightweight crochet lace tights (in black of course) that I adored until they developed a hole in the toe; I would love something like that, either as tights or perhaps as knee highs or thigh highs. Favorite Halloween/Scary movies? I'm not really into scary movies or horror movies or whatnot (I had a terribly active imagination when younger and so tons of things scared me; I'm better able to deal with such things now but still don't tend to specifically seek it out), though I do like some supernatural sorts of things. Movies along those lines that I really like: Nightmare Before Christmas (if it counts?) and Zombieland on the more lighthearted side, 28 Days Later and Let the Right One In on the more serious side. I think Let the Right One In is probably the best, and darkest, vampire story I've ever seen or read, and it's all in the atmosphere and psychological/mental/logical aspects of the situation. Brilliant. Scary books? I'm not super into horror but I do like some things that are fairly dark. Favorite book in the ~ horror genre: Drawing Blood by Poppy Z Brite. I do read them, though I'm bad about keeping up properly. I've read all of Sandman and all of Strangers in Paradise, those are probably my two favorites. I like Runaways (the Marvel comic), but I'm behind, and I'm interested in some DC characters/groups/storylines (Batman and the rest of the Batfamily (I have a soft spot for Robins and former Robins, and The Long Halloween is amazing), Birds of Prey, Secret Six, Teen Titans and Young Justice, etc, but it's hard to know how to really get into it just because canon's so huge. I loved Kingdom Come. I've read a little of Fables and a little of Y the Last Man and enjoyed them both and will probably continue at some point, just haven't gotten around to it yet. I don't think I need copies of those two, though, I'm pretty sure I can borrow from friends. Other comics I've really liked: Blue Monday, Hopeless Savages, JtHM, Charm School, Global Frequency, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Umbrella Academy, Castle Waiting; I liked Promethea for a while but lost track of it, I liked the part of Preacher I read but got bogged down about 2/3 of the way through while following it, and though I own the rest I still haven't read it. I enjoyed the early issues of Little Gloomy, Gloomcookie, and Courtney Crumrin, though apparently not enough to keep up with them. I liked Persepolis a whole lot, though it's not really a series, exactly. I'm always up for trying new comics! I've been wanting to try Transmetropolitan and Powers and Irredeemable, if that helps? I also like manga, though I'm bad at keeping up with that, too -- I loved Here Is Greenwood and Nausicaa of the Valley of Wind, Saiyuki and Inuyasha I own a bunch of and really adore but aren't all the way through yet, I read the first volume of Fruits Basket and enjoyed it (and wouldn't mind more of that), and I've been meaning to get into Black Butler -- I saw some of the anime and now want to see more of that and also read the manga. Squick: I LOVE Halloween, but please do not be sending me any fake (or real) spiders. There /will/ be a freakout, and it will not be pretty. Decoration: I tend more towards the cute. Please nothing that makes noise when you pass by. Celebrity crush: Hah, this could take a while. I'm really disappointed I couldn't go to Dragon*Con and get my picture taken with Ben Browder and Michael Shanks (or as I called them, Hot Man Sandwich) or James Marsters. Nathan Fillion is probably the only crush I might have a chance of randomly walking by, as he is from the same city as the husband is from. I've got some girlcrushes too, but am having a hard time tearing myself away from the Hot Men of SciFi so will update later when I'm not being a dirty old lech. Ceramics: An oil warmer would be nice. Mortar/Pestle: I have one, but it's not used frequently. Widescreen/formatted?: Widescreen, but uh.. I'm going to go with no movie DVDs, as the husband has a HUGE collection (the bookcase is approximately 6 feet long and 4ish feet high (4 shelves) and it's completely packed). TV shows like Burn Notice, Leverage, Carnivale, Deadwood, True Blood and the like are less likely to be on the shelf. Smallville I think he has, and possibly Supernatural, too. Amazon wishlist: a work in progress: Wishlist baked goods: Always welcomed in my house although my kids and DH are biggest cookie monster than myself. Just one note and this is on my questionnaire, one of my kids is allergic to peanuts so as much as I love PB cookies, it is a no go. Gifts for the fam: That would be a nice gesture but not necessary. My kids are spoiled enough by grandparents and are too little to really get it. And DH is a picky guy and frankly he doesn't care that much about it. Testers of lots of little stuff vs. "big" items I love samples! Because then if I hate something, it is not alot of product wasted, and if I love it, I can gp buy myself some more! I need to rebuild my stash and while I don't paint my nails, I love painting my toes and I wear sandals as often as I can get away with it. I'm still hurt from when my DDs poured an entire bottle of OPI Melon of Troy on the tile (I had only used it once!) Soft plushies: I love little cute cuddlies, and even if I don't, my girls love carrying anything like that around so an all-around winner in my house. Most definitely yes, ceramic and pottery is awesome! how do you feel about mortars and pestles: I really don't have a use for them. Is there anything you have a phobia of, or that would make you go "squick" if you saw it in a package? um rats, particularly dead ones, vermin in general, big huge spiders. Obvious plastic things are okay but nothing too realistic. When you go to an etsy wishlist, it will tell you what things are sold. If you click on the sold item, sometimes it will give options that are similar to what was sold, but not identical, would you like the similar item or prefer not to get it at all unless it's the same item? How picky are you? Something similar is more than fine. I always think of a wishlist or registry as more of a guideline of my tastes. I had a really hard time explaining this to my guests for my wedding. Similar is okay, the list is just to give you an idea and if you find something completely different and think "She would totally love that!", that's cool too! Do you wear makeup: Yes I do and I'm always willing to experiment with new products. Just a few things, I work as a professional so my makeup needs to fit that (I am my own boss but I need to not freak out clients), I am pale with dark hair and brownish hazel eyes. How do you feel about handmade stuffed animals? That would be awesome. What are your favorite animals? Cats of any size, wolves, otters, owls, foxes, red pandas. Is there anything you've had to give up that you really miss or want back? Maybe something a witch could help out with? To echo others, I do miss my cloves, but it's best I don't have them. Although I am one of those rare people who can take cigarettes or leave them, my hubby is most definitely not. And he has asthma. So I have banned tobacco products from the house. If you were a student at Hogwarts, what house would you be in? Probably Ravenclaw. Pretty! How do you feel about home-canned goods, like pickles, jelly, preserves, stuff like that. Yum. What's your favourite flower? Stargazer lilies Are you opposed to vegan baked goods? Or baked goods in general? No indeed. I am quite a fan of baked goods. And anything coming from a switch witch is magically rendered calorie-free in transit. No lie. For those that have dogs, if I were to knit them a sweater, what colour would you like it to be? That is super kind and thoughtful, but Koto is not too enthused about the sweater idea, I'm afraid. And he'd probably eat it. Lip balm: Yay or nay? To answer my own question, I have a deep and profound addiction to lip balm, as I fight a near-constant battle against chapped lips, especially in winter. I tend to like balms more than glosses (and by "gloss," I'm specifically talking about the kind that come in a tube with a little stick inside and applicator on the end), because I find the latter tend to feel sticky to me. I love the flavored kind. Do you like guessing who your witch is, or would you prefer to know? Do you mind knowing? I never manage to guess correctly. I'm perfectly fine with not knowing until the end (tho I like a reveal so I can say thank you), but don't mind knowing before either. Whichever works best for my witch (and makes things the most fun for him/her too). The Hardness Scale by Joyce Peseroff Diamonds are forever so I gave you quartz which is #7 on the hardness scale and it's hard enough to get to know anybody these days if only to scratch the surface and quartz will scratch six other mineral surfaces: it will scratch glass it will scratch gold it will even scratch your eyes out one morning -- you can't be too careful. Diamonds are industrial so I bought a ring of topaz which is #8 on the hardness scale I wear it on my right hand, the way it was supposed to be, right? No tears and fewer regrets for reasons as smooth and clear as glass. Topaz will scratch glass, it will scratch your quartz, and all your radio crystals. You'll have to be silent the rest of your days not to mention your nights. Not to mention the night you ran away very drunk very very drunk and you tried to cross the border but couldn't make it across the lake. Stirring up geysers with the oars you drove the red canoe in circles, tried to pole it out but your left hand didn't know what the right hand was doing. You fell asleep and let everyone know it when you woke up. In a gin-soaked morning (hair of the dog) you went hunting for geese, shot three lake trout in violation of the game laws, told me to clean them and that my eyes were bright as sapphires which is #9 on the hardness scale. A sapphire will cut a pearl it will cut stainless steel it will cut vinyl and mylar and will probably cut a record this fall to be released on an obscure label known only to aficionados. I will buy a copy. I may buy you a copy depending on how your tastes have changed. I will buy copies for my friends we'll get a new needle, a diamond needle, which is #10 on the hardness scale and will cut anything. It will cut wood and mortar, plaster and iron, it will cut the sapphires in my eyes and I will bleed blind as 4 a.m. in the subways when even degenerates are dreaming, blind as the time you shot up the room with a new hunting rifle blind drunk as you were. You were #11 on the hardness scale later that night apologetic as you worked your way up slowly from the knees and you worked your way down from the open-throated blouse. i got witched! i've known who my witch is for about a week, we've had some nice notes back and forth. she sent me her big packeage of goodies last week, then sent me on a treasure hunt to find her identity... yewberry! thank you so much for making my first switch with round so fun! anyway, she told me she had one more little thing to send along and it should be here around this weekend. and it was. a bottle of the snow storm, a decant of l'autunno & a sample of happy housewife's revel. i love the snow storm, love it. i was down to my last bottle and a little bummed that it did not return for this yule season. but now, thanks to you, i have another whole bottle to tide me over. and i've always wanted to try l'autunno, i do love the apple scents. and i'm always curious to try other companies scents and see what i think. thank you so much once again for spoiling me way more than i could have ever expected.

i just got a fun nacho witch package from sheyona! with the flurry of fun & sweetness crowding my inbox alongside the encouragement to "watch the mail" i decided to dash down to the unibox after the mailman had left. it probably took longer than it should have because i ended up taking photos of leaves and puddles and all sorts of other autumn things. but when i arrived, there was only one thing for me, a box! i skipped back home and decided to open it on the kitchen floor. (i don't know why, i think it was the proximity to the scissors needed to cut the tape.) there was a nice little note from sheyona telling me that two of the "kitschy gifts" were form the original saturday market (the candles i'm guessing?) and the other was done by her. it's kinda hard to tell from the photo but the candles are beverages. one is a coke-glass filled with a "cola" candle (complete with ice cube) and the other is a mug of hot cocoa. then there is an awesome handmade tarot card of the hermit (my favorite card). and two tea samples for my sipping pleasure. this is so awesome for so many reasons: just this morning i was re-arranging my candle cluster in the bedroom and deciding i should probably refresh my candle supply. these fabulously kitschy items will be a welcome addition! they are just so wonderfully odd, they'll fit right in with all my other strange candle stuff. the hermit is destined to become my special bookmark. just because it's so darn awesome. and the tea... well, it's already halfway consumed. it's nice and cold today and perfect for hot tea. to my witch and my nacho witch: thank you both so much for giving my something so fun to smile about!

huzzah! i was witched! an interesting thing to note: this is the second time my witch has had something mailed to me and both times my package has arrived the same day as a bpal order... interesting... i think my witch and her helpers have a spooky power... anyway... my postal carrier had both of my packages scanned and waiting for me by the time i had walked down the hill to the mailboxes. i spent the whole mad dash back up to my apartment trying to feel through the wrapping to guess what was inside. okay, i'll confess. i squeed a little when i saw the pouch. i have this wonderful weakness for pouches and treasures hidden inside pouches. and dots? it never even occurred to me to check and see if they were vegan. in my brief checking so far, they appear to be! they are almost too cute to eat, little ghost dots. anyway, i had to see what was in the pouch. i'd been patient for, what, five minutes? agapē! one of my favorites! and full! i took a good, long sniff and sighed with happiness... thank you so much! but then i wondered: my witch must have had someone send this to me. but there was no note... so i went back to the package and sure enough, there was a business card with a note on the back. seems that schackjj was my witch's helper this time! so i'm off to huff agapē some more and ponder who my witch could be...

oh wow! i got witched! my witch must have heard the crazed squeeing, the frantic sprint i did back to my house, the shrieks of delight... but, as this is my very first igi post, i want to do the thing properly, so this will be as detailed as i can make it. so let me set the scene: i was waiting for the post since i knew that both my bpal order and my bindi would be here today. so i was keeping an extra-vigilant outlook. suddenly, there he was. so i skipped down to the mailbox to get my packages. i told him i had two and he quickly produced two packages with the bpal orange tape. i was so confused, but said: "well there should be one more, kinda small." yep, he retrieved my bindi and while i was turning to walk back, it hit me: i'd been witched! now normally i would have been tearing into my bpal order at the speed of light but no, i had to know what was in this mystery box so cleverly disguised as a bpal order! my hands were shaking with so much excitement i confess it took far longer than it should have to get the tape off. yes, i was that giddy. kids at christmas have nothing on me. so the very first thing i spotted was this: my heart was instantly warm. a note and some autumny leaves made me feel so warm and loved. i did not immediately read it, i had to arrange everything contained in the box: wow. vintage mystery books? like the ones i read when i was little? oh my god witch, you are awesome, you have no idea how much i love these kinds of books. cute pencils? another fave i forgot to even mention on my questionnaire! and imps/decants galore. some are imps of my favoritest gc scents, others are ones i've not yet tried like pickled imp (can't wait to try this one) and PUMPKIN QUEEN! so i finally opened the note, though with some difficulty because, well, i was still pretty excited and i also have a cat who decided to "help": the note indicated that the books were from tartchef and the imps/decants were from my witch. but who i ask, who were the pencils from? witch (and tartchef), you made my day. no week. this was totally surprising and so uplifting. this day started out a bit meh, but now... i can't remember the last time i've had such a sudden positive change of mood! thankyouthankyouthankyouthankyouthankyou!

If you could decorate/redecorate any 1 room in your home, what would it be and how would you decorate it? I would LOVE to redecorate our stupid kitchen. The counter tops need replacing, we need an island or something -- anything! -- to give us some counter space. I'd also replace the refrigerator, washing machine and dryer (the fridge with something stainless, washer/drying with one of those cool front-loaders in red to match our other kitchen stuff). Bracelets or anklets? For necklaces, I like more delicate and dainty things, or something cool on a cord, like those pretty glass pieces with the glittery swirls and such. I like chokers and short things (around 16 inches or so). I would kind of like to try mixing it up with some long necklaces of the pretty, dainty variety. I'm not crazy about sort of mid-length necklaces, though. I have gauged ears (00g), as well as regular ear piercings, and like plugs in natural materials like polished wood, stones, bone, etc. I do like bracelets and anklets, of varying kinds. I currently have a leather cuff with a Celtic knotwork design that a wear a lot, and I love it. Wouldn't mind having more similar things. Have you read anything by China Mieville, Neil Gaiman or Charles de Lint? If so, what? Like/dislike...?? other than books/cds/dvds are there any "things" that you collect or symbols which you have an affinity for? If you were buying or making a witch gift for yourself, what would YOU buy/make? Book stuff: I love love love love love Neil Gaiman, and anything Gaiman related. I have Sandman posters, action figures, watches, a set of postcards and a clock. I have a cute little Neil Rat resin figure by Lisa Snellings, and two Gaiman lockets, and am gradually working my way through trying all the BPAL Gaiman scents. So yeah, um... that kind of thing would be very welcome. I haven't read much Mieville or de Lint. I make jewelry and bookmarks, but sadly don't have any photos of them. I just keep giving stuff away before it ever makes it to etsy. I made a couple of things for my witchee last round that I thought were nice, but she didn't post pics. So yeah. Note to self: take pictures of things! L'Autunno and The Winter Maiden are my other current favorites. I actually haven't tried any of the general catalog bath oils, but would like to. Post #323 Little treats: Not much of a candy person m'self, but I love tiny (pocket-sized or smaller) school supplies and sketchpads! It's so hard to resist buying one whenever I go to the campus store/an art supply store. My favorites have plain brown covers and spines, but spiral bound ones are nice too. Hair: I once got my hair highlighted with red and violet... It was at a Japanese hair parlor. They had to bleach first because I have blackblack hair... and apparently my hair was traumatized by the experience. From now on the only chemical treatment I'm going to use is permanent straightening... BPAL storage: I use unfinished wooden boxes from Michael's with simple handmade cardboard partitions. I have three right now, but they're overflowing... But I don't really want any more boxes; they take up too much space. I might instead make second stories inside them. I'm not a pen geek though, since I do most of my work on the computer. #4600 So, bath products. I mentioned in my questionnaire that I am bath-challenged and don't have the slightest clue what to do with most exotic fancy stuff... soap, shampoo, conditioner, that's it for me. But I can tell you about my favorite textures in soap: I don't like things too exfoliating because my skin is apparently really sensitive to scratching, but just a wee bit of texture is nice. I don't care for gooey.

A more traditional-style SW help post! Here are things I love, but I don't add to my wishlists because they're general wants (like doll materials) or, in the case of the etailers, things that look interesting but I'm not motivated to buy for myself. Adult package warning I'm 19 and I live alone or with other people over 18, and we're all pretty liberal folk, so an R-rated package (or higher ) would be okay in the sense that nobody's going to be offended by it. But... I'm afraid I might not get bawdy/raunchy gifts. I'm really rather disinterested in and ignorant about sex, so while some naughty stuff might make me laugh, most of it is not really my style. Doll materials and accessories I love to make itty bitty felt dolls (the current generation is 6" tall) and would love to find clothes and accessories for them! I have a gallery for them at my LJ. I also have Uriel's measurements. Clothes and accessories that suit the character would be welcome, but so would random things that are the right size! Useful supplies would include swatches of fabric (solid colors are lovely - very nice, subtle patterns would be nice too,) thread in various colors, tiny buttons and beads, etc. Tea I love tea, but I am very picky. I like black, green, and oolong tea; I really don't like chai and herbal/other non-tea plant tea. Other favorites... Earl Grey, genmaicha, Ti Kuan Yin oolong, jasmine green tea... You can get a sense for what I like from my LJ tea tag. I now have a teapot so I can make loose tea, yay!! Menswear I love crossdressing (I do it so regularly it doesn't really feel like crossdressing anymore) but my family is a little bit disturbed by it, so I don't like to put suit-type things on my wishlists. I love neckties (silk preferably, in solid colors or subtle stripes,) pocket squares (don't really need any more, though,) and SUITS *_* and sport coats. I really want a pocket watch -- currently trying to find one that looks nice, is functional, but also not too expensive. I also like cufflinks! O'course a lot of these things are way too expensive for Witching, but accessories or just, like, fashion tips would be awesome! Bath & Body I am an extremely unglamorous girl -- I almost never use makeup and don't know what to do with most bath products. But I'll take anything that is useable in the shower, and I might be persuaded to try things for the tub while I'm at home. In general, I just use shampoo, conditioner, and soap in the shower, occasionally a fragrant body wash. If you send me one of those four things, it will be used. I also like alcohol-free lotions (cocoa butter especially) Other things may require written instructions. ! I have an LJ soap tag but there isn't much under it, mostly just SRTC. I went around looking at some different sites and found a couple of items that looked like they might be good matches for my scent preferences... Because I am not a really enthusiastic bath person, I probably won't be motivated to buy these for myself... which probably makes them good Witching goodies! Movies: Sheer beauty -- an incredibly beautiful scene, or a scene of really intense emotion, will reduce me to tears. I generally to prefer cleaner, Romantic-type beauty to abject-beauty, but there are exceptions. Examples of scenes that moved me - from Whale Rider, Pai's speech, and the shot of the longboat after the fade from white; from V for Vendetta, the last fight scene; from the Lord of the Rings, the aerial shots of the massive battles and the wedding; the statue-carrying sequence from Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter... and Spring; the last parts of Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind; and, like, ALL of Hero. I like decent plot and acting, but beauty is the most important. Music: Similar to movies, intense emotional charge and eerie beauty (good examples from "favorite music" above would be "Revived Power" and "How Wicked Ruler".) I don't like lyricy music; I focus on the sound. Anime, manga, and (fiction) books: Intriguing, deep, and pitiful characters with an intellectually stimulating (but not pompous) plot -- AND I like very silly humor. Video games: The qualities of BOTH my favorite movies and books -- beauty, good characters, good plot -- with some degree of "moral freedom". I really hate being forced to take a certain moral position (especially when I find it WRONG) or to take only one interpretation of the plot. Freedom in general is also good, but I can love a one-storyline RPG if it gives me the freedom to interpret. And the game should also be fun to play -- fun and engaging in general, easy controls, leisurely and sensible level of challenge or ability to customize difficulty levels, etc. I'm a "casual" gamer. Imaginary boyfriends: Gentleness, intellectual orientation, compassion, honesty, loyalty, but some serious, pitiful weaknesses -- personality weaknesses or physical weaknesses (I am rather attracted to physical weaknesses ) that can be healed or transformed with help. See the "favorite concepts" section. Favorite concepts/the conceptual side of Apologia as all my favorite concepts are a part of Apologia. I really like a particular... "narrative"? "emotional trajectory" in fiction? of healing that begins with a pitiful wounded one who then has a sublime and mind-opening experience and emerges from it majestically. He is aided by another character for whom the reader/player (hopefully) feels empathy; she changes from pitying the wounded one, to merging emotionally with him at the sublime moment and sharing his pain and happiness, and finally to a sense of awe and peace at seeing how he has grown beyond her. Healing and growth founded on a loving relationship. The ultimate noble character in my stories is someone who is weak but chooses, not out of duty but free will, to suffer grievously in order to lessen the suffering of others. This self-sacrifice can be melodramatic, or much smaller and simpler -- it's most commonly an awakening to the suffering of another and a small act to help him, which is shortly followed by someone else sacrificing to help the helper, and so on and so forth, the formation of a chain of compassion and helping. Most of my stories focus on the desires, emotions, and interactions of characters (rather than "plot.") The interconnectedness of characters is very important. Some of the biggest concepts probed in Moon's Apologia: the formation of meaning, knowledge, morality, and identity; existence, relationships and relativism; the nature of thoughts and emotions. The theme of "Am I human?" comes up a lot... there are a lot of androids, demihumans, and imaginary half-beings running about in the story. I'm generally interested in delicate and ephemeral things. The emotions I'm most interested in are pity, tenderness, sadness, empathetic suffering, love, affection, eudaimonia, and sublime ecstasy. The main characters from Apologia, who are extremely important to me. An example of how they could apply to Switch Witching: I'm generally not interested in trying perfume from other companies than BPAL (I already have so many more GCs to try!) BUT if there's a scent that perfectly matches one of my characters, I want to try it!! Moon - A half-Dream gynoid, an ethereal magical construct. Extremely gentle, subtle and nearly invisible, shaped by those who care about her. Uriel - An intelligent, gentle, dignified professor and alchemist-perfumer. Outwardly cynical, inwardly romantic. Cosimo - A selfish, energetic, nerdy young intellectual, a magical and mathematical genius. Outwardly aggressive, inwardly shy and jealous. Isaac - An android (bioroid) on a quest for justice. Outwardly coolheaded and suave, inwardly anxious and sensitive. And others... Light and her Incubus, Jin, Seondeok, Tenran, Eschaton, the Bard, Izumi/Reisen/Setsushi, Ante, Yshayya, Arazari, Seri, and so many others Go here for pictures and descriptions of them, and what they would smell like!
