Dead Leaves, Black Plum, Bitter Clove, and Oudh

I am slightly nervous about this, it could be great, or it could be awful. In the bottle I smell leaves and what I'm assuming is oudh. When on the plum smell comes out. It is smelling a bit like church incense when drying. I really hope that passes. I have tried 3 out of 5 bottles so far, and none are keepers as yet There was a faint urine note there for a while and I am very glad it has passed! I can smell the bitter clove now. I was hoping the plum would be more prominent in this, but it looks like my skin amps incense over fruits. I'm not sure when I will have a use for this, but I may try to mix it with some sweeter scents to see what happens.

    September Midnight

2017 version. Ugh, I had forgotten I bought this last year, didn't realise until I saw my review! I am hoping there is enough difference for me to like it. So far so good. It reminds me of "Plum Rain" shower gel by Lush when first applied, but is now starting to mellow. Oh no, that sharp note is back. Assuming it may be the amber. Go away! It smells like generic Lush soap. I think I prefer it to last years and will keep it to see how it ages.

    October

Smells lovely and green upon first sniff. October is my favourite month so I had high hopes with this one. As soon as I put it on I smelled soap. I sniffed my wrist at different times throughout the day, hoping the scent would change. But it didn't The soap is a lovely masculine/neutral scent, but still not what I was hoping for. Disappointed.

    September Midnight

I can smell the pomegranate, someone mentioned a dark purple smell, which is exactly right. Like a dark, alcoholic berry syrup. I'm starting to get a soapy note and the syrup is disappearing. Not keen on this, it's a bit sharp and is leaving a chemically taste in the back of my throat.

    This Wan White Humming Hive

This smells like sharp alcoholic cream in the bottle. This is a wonderful smell, a honeyed incense. I can't quite work out when I would wear it though, as I tend to get headaches from incense nowadays (I bought this for the beeswax note). The smell is slightly reminiscent of when I layer Samhain with Honeyed Apple, so I think this is off to the swaps.

    Dead Leaves and Sugared Cardamom

Oh that cardamom is gorgeous, definitely sugared! The dead leaves add a slightly sharp note to it which I am enjoying. The dead leaves is starting to take over as it dries, which is such a shame. It's turning greener and sharper. I think this is verging on too masculine for me.

    Dead Leaves and Lavender Buds

Just put this on and my OH commented "that smells like glue". He never comments on my perfumes, pffffft! I sort of get what he means though. Pritt Stick. I shall see what it's like when it dries as I had high hopes for this! It's still smelling like glue as it dries, but I can smell the dead leaves coming through now. Argh, OH has ruined it, I want to smell lavender, but all I can smell is pritt stick *sulks*

    The Gambols of Ghosts

Smelling it in the bottle it reminds me of a less creamy dragon's milk. Something about this isn't sitting right with me. I'm guessing it's the amber. The oil is red, and red oils never seem to work on me. It smells a tiny bit like earwax
  9. This is really green. The leaves are wet and have fragrant flowers mushed up in them. This has got a lot of throw and the patchouli is dominant now it is dry. I would like to come back to it in Summer and see whether I will wear it.

    Fizzy Jack O' Lantern

This is confusing on my nose! I can't work out what it reminds me of in the bottle, a fuzzy peach shower gel by The Body Shop I think?! It seems to have a good throw when wet. It's quite sharp and starting to turn soapy on me. I smell like gin. I love gin, but not this much! SWAP!

Dead Leaves, Raw Leather, Bourbon Vanilla, and Clove

I wore this last week and remember the lovely leather smell when I first put it on, but can't remember anything else. I was wearing a lot of layers though! I will test it fresh now. In the bottle the dead leaves note is strongest, with the others merging together underneath. A slightly spicy masculine fragrance. As it dries the clove comes out to join the dead leaves, and underneath, the vanilla gives way to the leather. The leather starts to get stronger, but I wouldn't say this is a strong scent (which I thought it would be!). I think I'll leave this one to age and see what happens.

    Spiced Autumn Cider

I wore this blind on Christmas day! Thankfully I really enjoyed it. It smells like eating an alcoholic fruit cake in autumn. Hard to judge throw due to the amount of layers I was wearing. But I caught a slight clove whiff when I hopped into the bath at the end of the day. Will be wearing it again

    Bordello

Frimp. The plum and blackcurrant are dominant in the imp. On and wet it smell like a berry candy. The fake sweetness is calming down as it dries and a wine note is trying to peek through. I'm liking this more, it's currently reminding me of my childhood. A soap maybe, bubble bath? Unsure, but I like it This is becoming more faint as it dries, and from far off I get a soapy smell, so I don't think I'll be wearing this.

    Hecate

Frimp. The almond is the dominant fragrance in the imp. On and wet, it smells like a slightly boozy frangipan. The myrrh is becoming stronger as it dries. I'm almost liking it, but the buttery almond is too gourmand for me at the moment. The smell has gone within 10 minutes. What a shame!

    Hymn

Frimp. Ooh, it is smelling like floral soap on my skin; that'll be the lily. I can smell the incense, but altogether it is reminding me of soap or pot pourri in a church toilet.

    Baobhan Sith

Frimp. The grapefruit was what I smelled first in the imp. I've not yet tried a citrus blend, so am intrigued to see how it works with my skin. As it's drying down it is smelling like a shower gel my Mum uses, not bad at all! The ginger is coming out more as it dries and it is becoming a tad sharp. It's not got much throw, even for my sensitive nose. It would make a pleasant scent for hand soap or shower gel, but not one I want to wear as a perfume.

    Urd

Frimp. This reminds me of dragon's milk without the milk in the bottle! As soon as it's on my skin it changes and the smokiness of the patchouli comes out. I keep getting a slight cigarette ash scent. Things are starting to calm down and I see what people mean about an incense shop, and the slight mustiness of it. 10 years ago I would have loved this, back in my Uni days. Unfortunately I am over my incense phase as they all smelled largely the same on my skin. Off to the swaps!

    Hemlock Honey

This is a glorious honey in the bottle. As it dries, the greenness of the hemlock comes out to play, which stops the honey from being too cloying. It reminds me of something from Lush. I recall a massage bar in the shape of a honeycomb, maybe that's it? It's becoming greener as it dries, I hope it doesn't overpower the honey. This seems to have calmed down now, and is a wonderful fragrance. Different to my other honeys which I like. A fresh scented honey.

    Dwarven Ale

I wasn't expecting this to be foody, but on first sniff it is very much so! I think it's the honey and pumpkin! Let's see what happens as it dries as it has one hell of a throw! This is my second try at a scent with pumpkin in. I think I may amp pumpkin which makes things smell more foody than they actually are. A shame I don't like gourmand scents! The pumpkin has calmed down a bit now. I'm not sure how I would go about describing this, but the notes listed are all there! Unsure if this is one I would want to wear. I was hoping the honey would be stronger, I may age this to see what happens.

    Elf

Frimp. This smell of pine. But not the bathroom cleaner kind, a bright, sweeter kind. The flowers are strong in this, which never agrees with me, but we'll see how this dries down. This smells like a forest, and like a florist! As it dries, the pine scent has disappeared and I can only smell flowers. I amp florals, so this is no surprise, unfortunately I've not found many bpal florals that work with my skin. The floral scent has calmed down now it's dry, and hasn't turned sharp like most florals do. The leaves are almost peaking through. It smells like an early Spring morning in a forest, with just the hint of mist among the flowers. Unsure if I will use this, but am willing to try again in Spring.

    Jack

I was half expecting this to be an orange coloured oil! My first pumpkin scent. This is major foodie. Like cheesecake. I'm not sure if I like foodie scents as a lot of them have made me feel nauseous (I'm looking at you, Shub!). I'm always hopeful, because they seem to be popular around here! It reminds me of Penny Dreadful, the slight ginger biscuit scent to it, but warmer and less red or complex. I smell like cookies. The food scent (is gourmand the word I'm looking for?) is starting to calm down as this dries. I'm still not sure this is for me. I seem to be able to handle gourmand when mixed with other scents, but not on it's own. A shame, but I think this is headed for the swap pile.

    Samhain

2016 version. My first Samhain! I am very much looking forward to testing this. I can't pick out any individual notes on first sniff, it is a wonderful blend. Warm and almost medicinal, slightly reminiscent of deep heat, karvol, vicks etc. Looking at the notes, it's probably the blend of clove and fir that I'm recognising. Oh my, wow. It smells like Samhain night! Dark and misty with the spices of punch to warm yourself. It makes me feel excited, like how I feel on Hallowe'en! The patchouli is becoming stronger now, I'm not a massive incense fan, so I'm hoping this dies down. It's already calmed down a bit. This is amazing, and my absolute go-to Halloween scent I had this on one wrist, and Honeyed Apple on my other. They go very nicely together!

    Honeyed Apple

My first apple scent! In the bottle it smells really sharp and sweet, like an overly fake apple flavour for boiled sweets. I really hope it doesn't remain like this, eek! I am a honey lover, so am hoping this mellows out a bit. As it's drying it is smelling like apple shampoo to me. Please mellow, I bought a whole bottle! This has a lot of throw, which I wasn't expecting. The honey is starting to come through and deepen the smell and I hope it continues this way! Oh dear, it's starting to give me a headache now. I am such a honey fan, but I don't think there is enough in here for me. I'll see what it's like much later, failing that, I will see how it ages. Edit: The throw has calmed down, but I don't think it's one I will wear on it's own very much. However, I tested Samhain (2016) on my other wrist, and when I caught a whiff of them together it was stunning! Honeyed Apple, you have been saved!

    Dead Leaves and Blackberries

I have never tried a blackberry scent and only one dead leaves scent (Falling Leaf Moon) and I wasn't a fan. When I sniffed this in the bottle it was an intoxicating syrupy, almost boozy smell, like a blackberry liqueur. During the dry down I had a phase of the sharp/perfumed dead leaves scent, but that was thankfully short lasting. The blackberry won out with the hint of dead leaves in the background to make it suitable for warmer or colder weather. It reminds me of blackberry picking with my toddler. She always smells faintly of berries, so I knew this was a must buy, and I am so glad I bought a bottle. It doesn't last too long on me, medium duration, but I can smell it when I sniff my wrist (although average noses may not be able to).

    Celeste

Testing my stash due to nose change after having kids. Another one I have that I never appear to have tried! In the imp I smell a floral vanilla. Could go either way on me. Wet and on, it smells like a generic body cream, not too vanillary, not too floral. The florals are creeping out as it dries down. I'm not keen on this. It's not a horrid scent at all, it's just the kind of smell that you would get in regular shops. Pleasant, but not stash-worthy for me.
