Death Moon: Wisteria and White Musk Hair Gloss

This is so, so pretty. It's a dainty, light purple floral supported by some powderiness. I think some white florals go grape-y to me and while this threatens to veer into that territory, it only has the faintest hint of it, and I get to bask in the full glory of these beautiful blooms. I feel like that description could apply to lilacs (and I have tried the WL and Moss HG as well- also a stunner), but Wisteria comes off as a more mature, cool beauty than the WL HG, which is powderier and more youthful. Out of the two, I prefer Wisteria, but I cannot stress enough how pretty both of these HGs are!

The Woman Clothed with the Sun and the War in Heaven

(Testing from a feltie sample) Ok wow, I like this! I'm getting a feel for BPAL's pomegranate because I recognize it from the one in The Fruit of Paradise, but of course, portrayed differently so there isn't the same tantalizing sweet juicy tang that FoP has (FoP is pale, sweetened pom juice to me). It was mainly pom when I opened the feltie bag and when wet, but the pom steps back as it dries down and the resins help ground and round out the pom so the overall scent is soft, warm, and lightly powdery. The singed frankincense isn't smokey at all. This one is a pretty calm scent with a dim garnet glow that doesn't break the peace.

    Green Lovebird

Wow, I thought it smelled a bit like mint ice cream at first, but its more mint candy (buttermint that's actually minty?). It smells super cold and is very minty. It's softened by sugar but definitely has that cooling minty effect. I'm not getting much pistachio from this. The mint makes my arm tingle a little!

Idle Moon: Coconut Milk and Rice

It's not very buttery to me, but the coconut is 'cold' and isn't warm like a lot of coconut notes. I agree that it's like the coconut milk you use for cooking, it hasn't been sweetened. I can kind of see the sunscreen comparison, the rice is recognizably steamed rice but I think how it mixes with the coconut could have veered into sunscreen territory if my brain didn't make the connection to coconut rice dishes. It really does make me think of thai curry or adjacent dishes (sans spices).

    Different smells/colors, same perfume

I bought the Ajevie partial around ~3-4 months ago and it's coming around 2 months since I bought the WoS HG. I've asked a couple people to smell them and was told they smelled vastly different :') I haven't bought a third to truly tell if it's a batch diff or mislabel. If it does change in a year I'll come back and update, but FWIW I unfortunately don't smell any similarities between the two so I don't think it's an aging thing, but fingers crossed!

    Ghost Milk

I picked this up because I kept hearing raves, and I get it now. It's a transparent milky aura steeped with honey dust (I was going to comment that the honey feels like honey dust instead of the usual thick syrupy consistency and what do you know, it is honey dust!) and warm gauzy vanilla cashmere. I agree that the milk isn't very lactonic- it serves as a carrier for all of the other sweet goodness. It feels like an autumn scent- I'd love to wear this on a grey day- but it's definitely suitable year-round. Sweet and pleasant.

    The Fruit of Paradise

2017 Version! I wanted to try a straight pomegranate, and I love this! Pale garnet droplets that are distinctly pomegranate with just the right amount of tartness. I say pale, because this doesn't really smell like a deep jewel-toned pom, but more like a lightly sweetened juice. There's something that hits the back of my nose that I absolutely love that keeps me coming back. I would absolutely drink this. Kind of smells like a really nice shampoo (complimentary). I think this is the pom perfume for me, and it will be getting a lot of use this summer.

    La Glorification de la Musique

I love the Ars Anni line, and most of my BPAL collection are LEs that are conceptually interesting to me. When I saw this released, I bought it because I fell in love with the painting, notes be damned! Well: it's rather grape-y to me. Some white florals can read grapey to some noses because of certain aromachems (MA, I believe!), and I think that's what's happening here. It's mainly soft grapey white florals, with an undercurrent of soft and hazy incense smoke. I detect a hint of green apple, but it's very muted and I suspect it's because of how the white florals perform for me. This does not read as a purple smell, fwiw- it is a hazy, luminescent whitish scent. Pretty! I don't dislike the grape-iness of it and it's a lightly tart, floral haze drifting with a soft white cloud of incense smoke.

The Stuff that Dreams are Made Of

Another vote for opalescence- it's a great word to describe this perfume. The notes fade quickly into a pleasantly milky musk. The fingertip I used to apply smelled gently of fruits when wet and blended into the haze of white when it dried, colored by the soft florals and fruits bobbing to the surface at times. It's milky in a texture way, like pale white and cloudy liquid; the coconut milk seems to serve as the texture as I don't smell anything coconut in this. While this has floral elements, this is better described as a soap or skin musk scent. Pale, milky opalescence.

    Tropical Print Sheet Ghost

I smelled this without looking at the notes and thought... is this a tropical fruity green Penetralia? It has that same beautifully pale pink-green nectar element mixed into high-pitched fruits (in a good way) with a lush greenness to it. I pick out more of the banana leaf, papaya, and hibiscus over anything else. A fun scent!

    Revenant Rhythm

When wet, it's a deep, dark earthy scent with a dankness (not stereotypically weed) with an herbal edge that reminded me of ginseng without the sharpness. What really surprised me was that as it dries down, the bitter herbalness dissipates and there's an aura of pleasant earthy patchouli and hemp with the tiniest bit of sweet creaminess from the vanilla. There's a small mint thing going on that adds a subtle freshness without cutting through the deep robustness of it all- it's just there chilling out. I like it! I can certainly see why it's so popular.

    Die Wunderblume

I want to say that this is Columns of Neptune's freshwater sister- they're both atmospherics with mineralic, aquatic, and green notes, but Die Wunderblume is sweeter and fresher from the florals and moss. The white florals are under the aquatic greens- this is more about the river and moss. It's a bit soapy and strong, like laundry detergent and a little goes a long way. I want this as a room spray or body wash. I can see what the other commentor said about carrots- there is a little something in the moss and vegetation that has something sweet and earthy like what carrots impart. DW is the moonlit woodland river nymph to CoN's sunlit temple priest that lives near the ocean. Night and day.

    Falling Stars

Wow! Tame and dozy florals, not indolic at all. The bergamot adds a subtle brightness to it at first, but it steps down as the scent settles. The jasmine is the most recognizable in the floral blend, but it's a very well-mannered jasmine. The musk is plush and velvety. Sort of reminds me of vintage perfume. Very much a nighttime scent, illuminated by soft, warm light. Very lovely on a cool evening.

    Different smells/colors, same perfume

I bought a Wreath of Snow HG from the lab after loving my partial from Ajevie, and it's vastly different! The older bottle smells like soft lavender with tinges of tobacco flower, which I fell in love with. I would wear it and catch whiffs of soft lavender throughout the day. The new bottle smells indolic (like narcissus) and doesn't smell like lavender at all. I'm wondering if it is possibly a mislabel, because I'm comparing it side by side and they are very different- I don't think rest or age has anything to do with it;; I'm giving it a week, but I might reach out to the lab because this was supposed to be a gift to my partner, who loves lavender :') (Update: I did end up reaching out to the lab and Mr. Puddin' very kindly helped me out)

A Guardian Angel Serves a Small Breakfast

This was the dark horse of my order- it is surprisingly true to life; I am genuinely in awe that there is a bread perfume without a hint of artifice. I can literally see the ripped bread, the steam rising from the torn edges. It is cinnamon-y and sugared, but the sugar does not overpower the yeasty bread notes- the bread is the star here. Before BPAL, I shied away from gourmands. Now, A Guardian Angel is yet another bottle that I find myself reaching for to inhale that insanely specific aroma like a captured scent memory. I personally find this to be a scent locket perfume- alas, this turns into cinnamon tea as my skin eats the bread note. Wear this to trick people into thinking that you're an accomplished baker.
