Less heavy than the notes description leads you to believe! I get plum from the get go, more dried than jammy, along with the labadanum and beeswax. Gratefully, in my case, no peppercorn! The oud is present but not smoke-y, and the patchouli stays out of the limelight until drydown. I'd actually love to layer this with a smoke note to give it a more moody punch, but it's pretty terrific as is. 100% backup bottle worthy.- 4 replies

At a late period in the evening, after nearly three hours of experiment, Mrs Hayden having risen, and talking at another table while taking refreshment, a child suddenly called out, Will all the spirits who have been here this evening rap together? The words were no sooner uttered than a hailstorm of knitting-needles was heard, crowded into certainly less than two seconds; the big needle sounds of the men, and the little ones of the women and children, being clearly distinguishable, but perfectly disorderly in their arrival. Augustus de Morgan Polished mahogany and black tea with a clatter of vanilla husk and oak wood. I can totally see why others thought this evoked tea in a Victorian fortune teller's parlor. Much more wood wet than when applied and dried down, although it persists enough to balance out any astringency from the tea, which definitely leans Earl Grey. Sweet, pleasant and very wearable.

Boney Moon: Brown Sugar and Oak
SmellsPrettyGood2Me replied to doomsday_disco's topic in Duets & Menage A Trois
With the caveat that I applied this fresh out of the mailbox today, I'm on the (oak) fence. Wet to dry down, there is not much difference in how the scent evolves on my skin. I'm getting a lot of oak in a very hewn-stack-of-2x4s sort of way. The brown sugar is lacking the molasses-like quality that I was hoping would bring some warmth to the scent. This is not a foody fragrance, leaning more along the lines of a cologne-y "bring me your lumbersexuals or bring me death!!" vibe. Will put it away for a few weeks and see how it develops with some resting.- 1 reply

Wet in the bottle I smell...raisins? On skin the open is lemon Pledge-y tea with maybe a touch of bergamot. As it dries down I get more sugar emerging, but it takes a good long while for the rum to really present itself. Even after a couple of hours, there isn't really anything alcoholic that ever appears. Simple notes but really takes a couple of lovely turns on the skin as it wears. I like it, and would love it even more if it had a touch of amber for a deeper sweetness.
-
Powdery brightness that gives salty SweetTart incense vibes as it dries down on my skin. Maybe a hint of cinnamon? The lavender is much more subtle for me in this than TKO.
-
Soapy and very comforting. Reminds me of a sachet that your grandma would put in your sweater drawer to give everything a cozy lightly floral whiff.
-
Definitely salty, but my nose registers yeasty bread more than popcorn. Surprisingly addictive to keep sniffing!! Not very buttery, just a hint of it. The clove is more toasty than peppery, and I don't register the Dragon's Blood at all. Glad I got the chance to try this as it's not in my usual list of scent notes to sample.

This is what I imagine One Eyed Willy smelled like in The Goonies (salt-water logged pirate). I'd pair this scent with my movie re-watch but would not find much daily use for it otherwise.
-
Possibly my favorite BPAL jasmine GC scent. As other reviewers have said, it's quite pretty! Almost verges on candy-like in it's sweetness but has pleasantly moderate silage. I very much enjoyed catching whiffs of myself as the day went on.

Smokey dirt when wet, powdery smokey dirt when dry. Despite not generally being a fan of violets, I didn't hate this. The smoke gives liturgical incense vibes. I'm envisioning an Irish priest performing mass and then afterwards kneeling in his garden preparing the earth for spring planting while chewing violet gum.

As white florals go, well rounded. The ivy note is probably my favorite part of this scent as it provides a greenness that keeps it from being cloying. I can see this being a solid representative in a "Your First White Florals" sample pack.

Sage-y and sweet. Smells like a man taking a nap in a sunny central FL garden on a spring day. While it's not my normal wheelhouse of scent notes, I can't find a reason not to like it. I'd be happy with even more leather but I always want more leather!

This review is for the 2025 version. "A juicy apple says what?" Sliced red delicious apples smeared with a thin layer of lightly vanilla'd fig jam. Bright, but not so crisp that your mouth waters. My bottle is fresh and absent any of the mushy, overripe tones that other reviewers have reported in prior years variants. I expect it will get slightly more cidery as it ages, and I'm 100% ok with that.

This review is for the 2025 version! My bottle is only 2 weeks young and I expect that it will age exceptionally well. I'd love to say that I could pick out all of the individual notes here, but what I am really getting more than anything is...rooibos tea. Love it! Credit to the juniper that leavens the patchouli and oakmoss into something that smells warm and earthy but not dirty. Reminds me of what the it was like to see James Taylor at the outdoor amphitheater at Bethel Woods, where the collective scent of fellow folk fans melded with the aroma of the woods and hills around us.

A Song: When June is Past, the Fading Rose
SmellsPrettyGood2Me replied to VioletChaos's topic in Limited Editions
I was pretty scared of this wet in the bottle, as all I was getting the dreaded "sandalwood pickle" note. On skin, I get pickles, powdery dried roses and crystallized amber. This seems to be lovely for others but is personally a miss for my olfactory system and skin chemistry. -
Lesbian Maidservants Cavorting with a Tortoiseshell Dildo

I not-so-silently wished for a teak forward scent in this collection and my wish came true! The acidity of the teak is counterweighted by a strong honeysuckle note, and the "polish" comes in the form of just a touch of waxy lemon. This scent is Snow White running across a mossy forest floor in a swishy dress, carrying the stolen Mirror on the Wall.- 3 replies

Imagine that a rose pastille melted in the pocket of your suede spring coat when you left it in the car for a few hours on a sunny day, and every time you put the coat on after that you got the faintest whiff of powdery rose sugar. Sweet without being saccharine, beautifully delicate, with low silage. The musk hums in the background without getting dirty. I can see this being a very popular "bedtime" scent as it is snuggly and comforting.

Quite soft and powdery, but instead of the Queen of the Nile this reminds me of a 1930's starlet. Picture her dabbing her nose in front of a mirrored vanity while she waits for the car to take her to a dinner show, where she dazzles her date with her wit before she glides out onto to the dance floor. There is a coolness to this scent that harkens to a spring evening breeze. I barely get any cinnamon until about 30 minutes in, and it whispers instead of screams. The blue lotus is largely front and center from the get-go, but does somewhat surrender to the myrrh after three hours or so with a very light touch of resin at the bottom of it. Unexpectedly delicate and pretty. I like it!

I could easily re-name this "My First Orris" as it's a lovely introduction to this scent note! The patchouli doesn't register for me; instead I get a lightly powdery wisp of a floral. Delicate and wears close to the skin. This is the perfect post-bath bedtime scent.

Sweet and slightly astringent cedar dominates upfront! This is the most restrained cinnamon I have come across in a BPAL scent yet...you really have to sniff for it. The chamomile trades off with the cedar at dry down and gives it a nice warmth. I'm envisioning a quiet English lady sipping a cup of tea while sitting in her cedar closet as her maid tries to suss out the right fur coat to wear to dinner. Much more spring than fall to my nose.

You're on a business trip to Denver and your colleagues convince you to go out to a local bar to go line dancing after work. Completely out of your element, you watch the ebb and flow of the crowd for a bit before a handsome stranger in a brown Stetson and matching leather vest pulls you out onto the dance floor. As you spin and twirl, you catch a whiff of him, and this is what he smells like.

I'm really digging hazelnut as a note lately and Mouse does not disappoint! The brightness of the carnations and warmth of the toasted amber plays very nicely. Thankfully the cream note does not go sour on my skin at all. This definitely gives me late summer / early autumn festival vibes.

Gorgeous green, herby spices with a chewy, toasted wheat and roasted nut base. Am I imagining cinnamon in here, or is that just the clove? Warm and hearty, perfect for the day when your soul needs a pick-me-up.

Nope. I blind bought this because I enjoy most of the BPAL metal and industrial notes, but there is an undercurrent of either anise or licorice here riding alongside the green cardamom that ruins it for me. A very rare scrubber. If these notes work for you, you may love it!

Thrilled to get a very resinous, yet tannic sharpness from the cedarwood and bergamot upon initial application. The dried red fruits give a chewy cherry vibe. Reminds me of the cherries in Cherry Garcia ice cream, more dark and candided than a maraschino. The red oud is also a bit brighter than I am used to in ouds, to positive effect. I don't get any leather? Overall this evokes sitting in a workshop amidst wood shavings while eating a pint of Ben and Jerry's.
