    The Zieba Tree

On me, this is an unassuming clean fresh scent. It's pleasant and sunny, and I can see why lots of reviewers mentioned shampoo or soap. I don't get much in the way of peach or resins, to me this is mostly soapy lemon blossom and bright white sandalwood. It's nice, workplace-friendly, and I do like it. I just don't love it.

    Hod v2

A creamy note like the one in Glowing Vulva, underneath carnation. If you like carnation, you will like this. I keep giving that note second chances, and every time I am reminded that I just do not freakin like carnation. Oh well!

    Beaver Moon 2010

This is spectacular on me! I can definitely smell the classic Beaver Moon 05 cheesecake, and from reading other reviews, it seems I've got lucky chemistry! The scent starts out heavy on the sugared peach note, which is pleasant enough, but then it settles during the drydown, letting the pink strawberry scent and creamy, decadent cheesecake and Graham cracker come forward. My husband commented on this immediately when I walked in the room, he loves it too! A rave review, especially considering my insane perfume hoard of doom.

    Tiki Princess

I feel that this is softly aged Snow White with a breath of warm, lush, tropical florals in the background. As it dries down, the gorgeous flowers come out a little more. It's mostly coconut, through. I really like this scent, it's summery and pretty.

    Banshee Beat

I haven't tried a more glorious BPAL since Glowing Vulva. This scent is the most perfectly smooth vanilla patchouli blend, with a unique woody undertone that I suppose is attributable to the hemp but reminds me more of cedar or rosewood. I feel like an earth goddess with this scent. Deeply beautiful, I'm really quite impressed. Worth sitting on that waiting list, which ended up not being a hassle for me, more of an anticipation-stoking wait. It may not work on everyone, but those that harmonize with this lovely fragrance are sure to cherish it.

The chamomile really dominates this scent on me. It smells powdery, herbal, and floral. The vanilla isn't making much of an effort, it's soft and quiet and is sticking to the background. The vanilla note reminds me of Antique Lace. I was hoping for more vanilla and less chamomile, but sadly my chemistry doesn't seem to be cooperating. : -( Oh well!

    Crowley

This combination of notes ended up smelling like tobacco on me. I can see why so many people are insanely in love with this, but it's not really up my alley.

    Cake Smash

Delicious, decadent vanilla cake and cream cheese, just like Beaver Moon. The precious complimentary notes dance and swirl within the wonderful cake goodness - a lovely way to add complexity to the scent. I can't say that I pick out Dorian or Snake Oil noticeably, but there is something more going on here than just Beaver Moon goodness, and it's fabulous. Somehow deeper, darker, and more addictive. I the way that Beth does this cake note - it doesn't gross me out with cloying fake plastic icky yuck like many vanilla/cake blends tend to do. It's been on for 5 hours and still has great throw. Yum! Shoots straight up towards the top of my Favorite BPAL's list! 5 out of 5
  9. I tested this without looking at the notes, and this is yet another BPAL that makes me feel like an idiot once I find out what's actually in it! I thought it smelled like cinnamon, with a powdery dry floral like narcissus. Then I thought it smelled like the spices in Snake Oil, just without the creamy, sweet vanilla. I guess the powder is from the amber notes (BPAL's ambers often go powdery on me), and I'm sure the red amber is one of the notes responsible for my Snake Oil comparison. The spiciness that I mistook for cinnamon must be the combination of the cloves, pepper, and patchouli. The vanilla flower is the floral note (not vanilla like sweet baking vanilla, it's a faint floral note with the barest whisper of sweetness). I can differentiate the moss now that I know it's there, but it's not strong enough to dominate (thankfully, as it's not one of the best notes on me). I'm surprised this hasn't gained a cult following. It's awesome!! Diamond in the rough. A surprise hit that I never would have tried if I hadn't happened upon a decant! 4.6 out of 5

Chaos Theory IV: Edge of Chaos

DCXII Testable sniffie thanks to the lovely sunshinedaisybliss! This starts out clean with a hint of something slightly weird - like a baked bread note? The weird note immediately disappears and the scent ends up as a soapy floral, like a typical linen/cotton scent. Along the lines of Dirty and Wensleydale. Pleasant. Smells like I just got out of the shower. : -)

    AF6

This starts out with a blast of cloying peach, and as it dries down, the floral note comes out. I think it's jasmine, but a sweet jasmine. I'm not really feeling this scent. It reminds me of car air freshener - you know, the kind that comes in the tin can? No thx.

    Sol Niger v2

Thank you to sunshinedaisybliss for sharing this testable sniffie with me!! In the vial, there is a smoky resin. On my skin, the vetiver comes out in full force, dominating for a while with its sharp, dry, woodsy-grassy character. Overall, the scent is dry, smoky woods with golden resins underneath. It's not really my thing, but I don't really dig vetiver all that much.

    Lolita v2

Thank you to the fabulous sunshinedaisybliss for the testable sniffie! WOW you guys weren't kidding! Sugary sweet Dubble Bubble gum! It's got the strongest bubble gum flavor when it's wet, and as it dries, it smells like powdered sugar as well. It takes a little while for the other nuances to come forward, I can see why people are saying almond or cinnamon - there is just something a little more interesting going on here. The longer it warms up and sinks in, the more addictively beautiful it becomes. At this point, it becomes a little more difficult to describe, other than just sweetly deliciously happy. This makes me feel like doing cartwheels and watching Punky Brewster. Adorable! Edited to add: After being on for a few hours, although there isn't really any throw, when I smell my wrist it is just fantastic - almost like sandalwood but softer. I looooooooooove this scent! I hope I can find more, I drained my sniffie!

    Albedo v5

Thanks to sunshinedaisybliss for sharing this testable sniffie!! I definitely smell a hint of creamy coconut, in the context of subtlety and good taste. The coconut is remarkably low-key and lovely. I think I smell the candied gardenia note from Marae. There is an obvious citrus-herbal note that I also believe to be lemongrass. zankoku_zen mentioned B&BW Coconut Lime Verbena, and I can see the comparison for sure, except this scent is far more sophisticated, natural, balanced, and finely-tuned - it lacks the sickly sweet too-much-coconut and plasticky overtone of B&BW's CLV. Of course it does. This is BPAL! This is the good stuff! Very enjoyable. A great scent for a steamy tropical vacation.

    Rubedo v4

Huge thanks to sunshinedaisybliss for this testable sniffie!! This starts out herbal with a hint of rose, not at all the strong rose scent I was anticipating from reviews. The fresh, green, herbal notes are almost minty, just without the actual bite of mint. Eucalyptus? I can see where someone said lilac, there is a softness to this blend that makes me think of lilac as well. And a hint of sweetness that reminds me of gardenia, but not the lab's usual gardenia note - something softer and less sugary - magnolia? linden blossom? I'm horrible out picking out florals when they're not obvious. It's probably just dragon's blood in here giving that overall soft sweetness to the scent, but it's not a dominant incense note at all - it's just a hint. Very well blended. Rubedo (v4) is unique, fresh, soft and lovely. I really really love it, and if I had the chance, I would definitely buy a bottle. If Beth releases this scent, I hope she doesn't change a thing!

    Montresor

A yummy, dark berry wine - blackcurrant (cassis)? Blackberry? Boysenberry? A hint of precious woods, a whisper of vanilla. Juicy with delicate nuances of creamy sophistication. Wow, did I really just score a whole bottle of this???!?!?!?! How are people not tweaking, seeking this scent out??!!!? A hidden jewel of vintage BPAL (for me, anyhow). Never heard of it, bought a bottle on a whim from reading the notes. Magically delicious. 4.7 out of 5 :evol:

    D'Anjou Pear

Sweet, juicy, apple-y pear. Candied and juicy and dripping with fresh deliciousness. This is lovely! Oh well, 'tis better to have loved and lost....I have to pass this sniffie along in my imp-swap circle!

    Devil's Night

2006 version This smells like baked goods to me, and I also get the boozy rum note. Some wintry spices. Meh, not feeling it for some reason.

    Hellion v2

Delicious, juicy plum with a hint of incense. I think I smell clove. So this is why everyone's obsessed with Hellion! Never smelled the actual scent, but this proto is awesome : -) I have a plum scent from another company that I love. If I didn't, I'd be bat-shit crazy trying to hunt some of this nectar down (and broke)!

    Agapē

This starts out a little cloying and buttery....the fruit is a little too bright and juicy. Once it warms up on my skin, it reminds me of Haloes - the delicious vanilla cream note is divine. I really love this perfume after it dries down. It's worth seeking out. Oops to me for missing out just because I hate carnation! This scent is gorgeous. I can't smell the carnation, thankfully!

    Geek

At the beginning, this is really fascinating, unique blend of spice/wood/leather. It smells like the air as a bonfire is just starting. I really liked the burst of pine, but it didn't stay long on me. The sweet cinnamon at the beginning was also awesome and a great accompanying note, but it also disappeared rather fast. The cedar and patchouli threaten at a body odor and pencil shavings with my chemistry. My skin is just amping the wood notes, and not in the most pleasant way. Oh well, I won't be pining after Geek.

    Numb

Clean, an herbal soapy clean. I don't smell violets at all, and I love violet. I do smell lily, I think. Someone else mentioned hotel soap. I'm inclined to agree. Although it is pleasant, I'm not too sad that I missed out on a bottle of this one.

    Capela Dos Ossos v5

This is indeed a light, dry incense. I'm not amazing at picking out resins. I think I smell a clean (but smooth, not sharp) sandalwood. Capela Dos Ossos is faint on me. It's subtle. I prefer deeper, sweeter incense/resin scents myself. This fragrance is eerily evocative though.

    Ivanushka

A powdery, soft musk with a little amber and maybe a hint of patchouli. There's some kind of yummy woods, faint but distinctive. Unique yet familiar. I like it. I can see why so many have fallen in love with this one. It's lovely. Smells like loving hugs.

    Copper v1

Lemony, with a hint of orange, and a drop of clove, and most DEFINITELY tea tree oil. Zingy, herbal, and eye-opening. A smooth, subtle patchouli at the base. This smells like a high-end organic herbal shop/spa/aromatherapy ~ it's simple and familiar, and relaxing and rejuvenating. I can really visualize gleaming copper metal while I sniff this.
