Allergy Questions, Allergies and other reactions to oils

I'm allergic to anything with citrus in it. This includes the obvious things, like lemon, grapefruit, mandarin, bergamot, petitgrain, neroli, but also things like amber and verbena. While I dislike lemon and petitgrain, I LOVE other citrus notes, so this is very sad. But my wrists break out in itchy red bumps, and then any other perfume I put there just irritates it MORE, so I have to stay away altogether. And often, citrus notes aren't well-marked in the blends, so there's a lot I have to stay away from. It's very sad, especially since this didn't happen until about two years ago. And for those of you who were discussing this - skin allergies and food allergies can be completely different. For my own reference, a partial list of the things I have had allergic reactions to: CRAZY reactions: Hua Mulan (painful red itchiness EVERYWHERE IT TOUCHED) Alice (painful red itchiness EVERYWHERE IT TOUCHED) Ville-Marie (painful red itchiness EVERYWHERE IT TOUCHED) Little reactions: Diabolical Offspring (widespread little red bumps, itchiness) The Hesperides (maybe tiny bumps? maybe not?) Hopefully I'll be keeping it up to try to figure out if I'm allergic to anything OTHER than citrus.

    Doll's Eye Infused Honey

Wet this smells a like green herbs, honey, and dirty mint, but it dries down to... Stinky. Honey and baby powder and milk. With a little bit of green. My boyfriend too thought it smelled like Stinky so it wasn't just me. Stinky is one of my faves, so I might be tracking down a bottle of this to get a variation on it.

    Paper Kite

This one is coconut and sugar on me - it smells like a marshmallow. In a good way. It was oddly sharp in the decant and while wet, but soon mellowed into scrumptious marshmallow.

    The Marquis de Carabas

This is freaking delicious. In the decant and wet on my skin, it smells like those pomander ball things you have at christmas. As it dries, it starts smelling like spicy bark and dry leather. There is definitely a sweet, root-beerish component if you sniff really hard. The throw is pretty good. This doesn't smell particularly masculine to me, more like unisex.

    Door

Wet, it smells like a sweet floral chamomile, like if you were enjoying chamomile tea out in a garden. It dried down to something much deeper and richer - when I sniffed my wrist it still smelled light and floral, but the throw was all honey and chamomile. Absolutely gorgeous. Most likely a bottle purchase because I will run through this decant soooo quickly.

    Yorick

This is quite bizarre - the first dirt scent I've tried and it definitely does smell like dirt out in my yard. It's really weird. It's interesting to sniff, but not something I would want to smell like.

    The Harp of Cnoc I'Chosgair

Sweet sandalwood and vanilla - this reminds me a little of a creamier version of The White Rider. In the bottle: SANDALWOOD! OH DEAR GOD SO MUCH SANDALWOOD. There are hints of other things (mostly a kind of wet greenness like rained-on grass), but I mostly just smell sandalwood. Wet: Sandalwood. Dry: If I sniff it directly, I have difficulty smelling it, but the most beautiful floral/vanilla/sandalwood scent is wafting all around me, so I know it's still there. I was skeptical about purchasing this but WOW is it a winner. Sweet and creamy and sandalwoody in the best possible way.

    Enchanted Wood Florist

Whoever up above said this smells a lot like Fairy Market was right - it really DOES smell more like that than like anything else I can think of. Except I'm terribly allergic to Fairy Market and not at all allergic to Enchanted Wood Florist! Which makes it my new favorite. Other than Fairy Market, I'm kind of at a loss as to what it smells like. A little like my house when I fill it with fresh-cut irises, but also not. As it wears it loses some of the fresh greenness and gets spicier. It does have a strong throw and wear length. I could smell it around me all day, and I was constantly going, "mmm, what smells so delicious?" only to realize it was me.

    The White Rider

This smells to me like clean leather. I really like it, but it goes away so quickly! I'll need a whole bottle of it. If this smells like a barn, well, I've NEVER smelled a barn this nice. Definitely a unisex scent.

    Obatala

This definitely smells like a creamy coconut. To me it seems more like the scent of a lotion or sunscreen than a perfume... like the kind of thing I smell on myself and go "oh god, will this clash with my perfume?" rather than something that I set out to smell like.

    High-Strung Daisies

I don't like most florals but I love carnation, and since I also like pink pepper and sugar I decided to give this one a go. It's very light and sweet, with just a hint of the bite of the carnation and pink pepper peeping out from behind the daisies. It seems like something you'd wear with a sundress in the middle of summer.

    Miskatonic University

Wow, smells so strongly of coffee. I dislike coffee but occasionally like the smell and since everyone loves this one I tried it... but smelling it just made me feel kind of ill so I had to wash it off.

I bought this unsniffed and mmmmmmmmm it smells like chamomile tea! Love, love, LOVE.

    Forbidden Fruit

There is something in this that is very funky and sour to me. I don't know what it is but I can barely process this beyond "ew! I don't think I like that!" I guess it kind of smells like rotting lotus and gardenia obscured with cigarette smoke. dnw.

    Mr. Ibis

In decant: Aloe, sandalwood, a little bit of vanilla flower. Wet: Aloe! For the first few minutes I smell nothing but aloe. Drydown: The vanilla flower comes out to play, so it's a lovely vanilla aloe mix. Close up it smells primarily of aloe, and in a soapy way at that, but when I'm not trying to smell it I get some vanilla and light musk too. As it gets drier, the musk is more evident. I'm not getting much sandalwood yet, which is good because I don't get along with sandalwood that well. Completely dry: Faint and lovely, with more sandalwood. I like this but it doesn't seem to last terribly long on me. I guess I'll have to try it a few more times before determining if I want a bottle.

    Countess Willie

In the decant: Smells like chocolate and fruits. Wet: WOW. Deep, dark chocolate and amaretto. This is STRONG. Dry: The other notes come out to play, tempering the chocolate and amaretto a bit. It's still strong, but not as BAM! IN YOUR FACE! as it originally was. This is a gorgeous scent and I can see it being perfect for lots of people, but I think it's too sultry and obviously sexy for me to wear. I definitely get the comparisons to Midnight Kiss, which is why even though I'm all "Wow, this smells AWESOME!" I think I won't be getting a bottle... I had a bottle of Midnight Kiss and loved the smell, but never wore it because it wasn't "me" enough! I want to keep my decant because it's so sexy... but realistically I will never wear it again.

    Now Winter Nights Enlarge

Shorten those tedious nights with a surge of body heat: vanilla-infused red musk, champaca, petitgrain, ylang ylang, patchouli, nutmeg, honey, galbanum, and traces of caramel. On me this smells like sugar and... wood? I think maybe it's the petitgrain that my mind is interpreting as woody, because when I think about it, I can sense similarities to other petitgrain blends. The sweetness of red musk is there in the background, and the other things are murky and indefinite presences, obvious more in the throw than when I sniff up close. Also, if Tomoe Gozen and Dorian got drunk together and had a baby, this could be their offspring.

    In Winter in My Room

This does smell surprisingly pink, lank, and warm on me! In the decant it was effervescent grapefruit and flowers. It dried down to comforting and warm tropical florals. I really love it, but my allergies have struck again and I have itchy red bumps where I applied it. I had wanted a bottle but... I guess not.

Mmmm, warm spicy pomegranate! On me this doesn't change much, just stays delicious.

    The Peacock Queen

This just smells like a rose. It's nice, but I prefer something like Spellbound as a rose scent.

    Snow White

In the decant: I don't know what I'm smelling. Something soft and pretty. Wet: Vanilla and ozone, perhaps with a hint of flowers. I honestly didn't expect to like this at all but... I kind of do. At this point I want to eat it. Dry: Gorgeous and creamy! I never expected to love this scent but I'm definitely planning on a bottle of it, because wow!

    Sleipnir

In the decant: overwhelmingly sweet! Wet: sweet, a little bit foody, a little bit berryish. Sweet nutty berries... and Heavenlyrabbit is right, they're more like dried berries. It smells good and I can't stop sniffing myself! Dry: Warmer and more hazelnutty, but still lots of berry. I don't really smell the hay and carrots but I'm sure they're in there grounding things. This is a very soft, snuggly scent. I'm contemplating a bottle.

    Nes Gadol Haya Sham

In the decant: Lemon and patchouli. Wet: LEMON LEMON LEMON! I can sort of smell a bunch of other things swirling underneath. I swear I smell something woody, though I don't think any wood notes are listed. Dry: Gets progressively warmer and less lemony as time goes on... but it is still far more lemony than I would like (I'd like it to be NONE lemony). I might try this a little later to see if the lemon dies down some with age.

    Hypothermia

In decant: smells like soap. Wet: Still smells like soap, but mintier soap, with a hint of something green. Dry: Smells like a minty evergreen tree with a hint of ozone. It does kind of remind me of Snow-flakes except it's softer. I should also note: Ouch it burns.
