    Snake Charmer

This wasn't as spicy or vanilla-y as I thought it would be. It definitely doesn't smell the way I thought it would. But it IS an awesome scent. It goes on a lot more perfumey than I expected, but not in a bad way. I do get a hint of spice behind the musk. Once it's dry the vanilla comes out a bit more. The notes do intertwine as others have said, and this scent does not morph but yet stays a gentle, pretty, beautiful scent. I agree that it's a softer, less oriental version of Smut. It doesn't smell much like Snake Oil to my nose, but then, snake oil doesn't smell even the littlest bit like vanilla to me and everyone says they get vanilla from it *shrug* all in all this is a beautiful scent. Definitely in my top 10. ETA: Now that I've been wearing it for almost a day straight, I can safely say this is the BEST SCENT EVER. It's probably my favorite or my second favorite bpal. It really grows on you. It lasts and lasts, but yet is never strong. It's just so...glorious and divine. It smells so sweet and soft and slightly musky. The dry down is really amazing. It's just a wonderful blend all around.

    House of Mirrors

I left a review here thinking I had House of Mirrors instead of snake charmer. On further investigation, I think I really do have Snake Charmer.

    Katharina

This is a very, very sweet fruity scent. It reminds me a lot of The Body Shop's Mango Body Butter -though I don't think there is actual mango in it, it's in that vein. I'm not smelling any musk, mostly just apricot tinged with orange blossom. I don't looove it but it's alright. I'm going to have to try this again and see how I feel about it.

    Dance of Death

oddly, even though I do like myrrh, I've found myself not liking BPAL myrrh. Maybe it's because it's stronger than the myrrh I am used to, which I have in the form of a frankincense and myrrh body lotion. This smells like strong, strong, STRONG soap on me. It's very similar to Penitence in smell, but this is even stronger. With my chemistry, it's awful -almost floral- sharp, strong, soap. It gave me an intense headache and lasted FOREVER, it wouldn't even scrub off. Such a shame, I really wanted to like it. I love the idea behind it, anyhow. Lady death was death for me, indeed.

What do bottles and labels look like?

That gallery is awesome! Finally saw a pic of the Monsterbait: Underpants label that everyone was talking about. Brilliant

    Decadence

This is straight cinnamon and almonds on me, with something woods-y in the background. Hmm. After the drydown the almond fades a bit and it's kind of nice. Still unsure about this one. I'm tested out today, so I'll try again later and edit this review.

    Black Forest

This is a really great scent. I smelled it THROUGH the closed imp and had to put it on immediately. I wasn't even going to try it, becuase I hate pine, but I do like this scent. The pine is more of a background note and the scent is softened by the black musk and ambergris. Very nice, and a bit Christmas-y too. Not sure it will become a regular perfume, but perhaps will be used as a room scent. ETA: I had my husband try this since I thought perhaps it would smell lovely on a man. OH BUT NO. Well, not on him anyhow. It turned to pine-sol on his skin. Ew. Although he said he thought he smelled like a Christmas candle

    Stardust

This, on me, is floral hell. It's sharp, nausiating, incredibly strong (definitely a long laster!) and just....awful. My husband said it smells like cheap drugstore perfume. I'd have to agree. I can tell though, that with someone else's chemistry it would be magnificent. Sadly, I can't wear most florals, this being no exception. ETA: This was Stardust '05. if that makes a difference.

    Mantis

Ok, so I expected to hate this after I sniffed it in the imp. I've had bad luck with neroli in the past, and it smelled very...manly in the bottle. It stayed true when I first but it on my skin. But oh, how it morphs! On my skin, after a few minutes, it dries into a citrus-tinged sweet perfume. Very pretty and soft. This scent is creamy, feminine, and lovely on my skin. I don't really get much citrus in the drydown, oddly, but more of a vanilla-like floral (must be the amber and neroli). Fantastic! I definitely want a big bottle of this.

    Midnight Mass

In the bottle: heavy incense and wood On my skin: Strong pine and cedar with incense. Makes my eyes burn a little. This baby has some throw! I often found Penitence to be too strong for me and this is WAY too strong. It mellows quite a bit in the drydown, but still isn't a perfume I'd like to wear. It would be nice for a room scent, and anyone who loves resins and incense is going to LOVE this.

    Muse

I love this smell, but my skin does not. I was expecting to violently hate it, and I do not, so this is an improvement. It goes on like fresh, clean flowers twisted with lime. Very yummy and sparkling. But as soon as it dries the lime disappears completely it goes soapy. Not horrible soapy, not headache-y, but it has a rose finish. I don't hate it, but I don't love it either. I'm still not sure about it. It's really too bad that my skin is where bad roses come to die. As usual, the rose is amp'd up and overtook everything else. *le sigh* Even so, it is still wearable. Not a favorite, but I do kind of like it. ETA: a few hours into wearing it the Rose Soap of Death smell goes away and it's actually quite nice. I also LOVE it as a room scent!

    All Night Long

In the imp: Sharp cinnamon On my skin: Smells just like pumpkin pie spice. I'm getting lots of cinnamon, cloves, and a bit of ginger. After a half hour: Yep, still smells like pumpkin pie spice. Hubby said it made him hungry. I washed it off. Not a fan.

    Blood

This is a really fantastic scent! In the imp: Strong, sweet but yet almost bitter too. Burns my nose a little. Wonder what it will smell like on. On my skin: Whooboy! This baby has some throw. Starts of will one hell of a kick. Very sharp but yet sweet too, powerful, intense. I can smell the dragons blood, fruit, and clove. After about an hour and a half: this really mellows nicely into a pretty, soft, sweet fragrance. Dragon's blood and my skin are friends. I really enjoy this scent. 5 out of 5!

    Ravenous

I ordered this bottle unsniffed, on a whim, and I am so glad I did. I buy this shampoo by Nature's Gate that has patchouli and orange, I'm in love with it, so I knew I'd love this. Well, this doesn't smell at all like the shampoo (the shampoo was a sharp orange and very earthy patchouli) but it still smells great nonetheless. In the bottle: orange tainted with patchouli. I think this is going to smell pretty good on... On my skin: Creamsicle. The orange is softer than I thought it would be -must be because it's orange blossom and not sweet orange oil - and the patchouli is softer as well, must be because it's red vs traditional patchouli. This scent starts off very food-y, but in a good way. After about a half hour or so: The drydown is really amazing. The creamsicle smell backs off and the patchouli takes center stage, but is still laced with orange blossom. I think I almost smell vanilla as well. Oh, it's such a warm, sexy, beautiful, scent. Delicious! It definitely lives up to it's name. This is going straight to my top five

    Snake Oil

First sniff: Mmmm, sexy. Reminds me a tiny bit of Smut but without the booze note. On skin, wet: Hmmm. THIS is the most popular blend? Smells like sour play dough. Or baby wipes (not even baby powder!). Something sharp and not pretty is overtaking the vanilla. On skin, dry: OH. NOW I see why this is so popular. It dries into a very lovely, rich but not too sweet vanilla scent. Warm, soft, pretty, and very sexy. The vanilla is tainted with something I can't put my finger on, but whatever it is, it's wonderful. Very well blended and complex. Two thumbs up

    Darkness

Oh, wow. This is an amazing scent. I would like it to be noted that I am the eternal hater of most florals, so it's pretty incredible that I'd like *any* floral... In the bottle: fresh, somber flowers (must be narcissus). On my skin: fresh, sweet but yet dark flowers. This 'aint your Grandma's floral. After about 15 minutes: This really softens a lot and turns into a really sexy, smoky floral. A very heavy, mornful scent in tone but that doesn't give me a headache. This remarkably doesn't turn soapy on me, but just remains, mysterious. It's a hard scent to describe, but I just have to say that it's wonderful. It's not something I'd normally wear, but it really suits a dark mood well.

Allergy Questions, Allergies and other reactions to oils

Ok, I have the world's most sensitive skin. It's really rediculous. Anyhow, pretty much ALL perfumes make my skin break out in little bumps (bpal being no exception), usually only on my chest/neck (where my skin is most sensitive). Thankfully I can still wear it other places, but the bumps are odd. Does anyone else get little bumps from perfume? It seems to be only really an issue for me with chronic use. The bumps don't hurt, or itch, and are not really that visible unless you're looking very closely. They look maybe like goosebumps, or even smaller. Maybe clogged pores? And the skin feels a bit sensitive there too. I've had this issue all my life and just learned not to spray perfume on my chest. I thought bpal would be different without all the scary chemicals that go into most perfumes, but alas, nay. It's not a big deal and I can still wear bpal (just not on my neck!). Thoughts?

    Alice

I knew this was going to be hit or miss on me, but I really held out a lot of hope. On my first sniff from the bottle, I suspected it might not be for me. Rose, lots of rose, smells like cheap public restroom soap. But, I still held out hope that it might work on my skin... Alas, no. My skin amps up rose to the upteeth degree, which is a shame becuase my nose hates it. I smell like Grandma. Though my husband assures me that "this Grandma shops at Nordstrom" it's still not something I'd like to smell. Our roomate said I smell like Glade room spray. I think I smell like a Crabtree and Evelyn explosion. Ever smelled their Summer Hill scent? like that. So basicly, soap. But expensive soap! Verdit: swap.

    Smut

I knew this scent was going to love me before I ever even tried it. I FINALLY won an auction on ebay without spending my life savings and it arrived today! In the bottle: Oh, my. Musk and sweetness. It smells like one of those sex (well they are technically massage) oils they sell at adult stores. And I don't mean that in a bad way. This *IS* Smut. On my skin: sweet, sexy, earthy musk. I knew this would smell excellent with my chemistry because my skin loves musks -all musks. And oh, it does. My skin does eat it up somewhat after about 2 or so hours, but man, those first few hours? HOOBOY is right. This stuff has a pretty decent throw and smells....divine. It's too bad my kids are still up because this stuff has put me in the mood. I've never smelled anything like this! It reminds me a bit of Obsession but it's better. Smut is hot. This is definitely in my top 5, perhaps even my favorite. I think my bank account might have just shed a little tear

    White Rabbit

In the imp: Very fresh, clean smell. Lovely. On my skin (wet): I smell mostly linen and tea with a touch of honey. A very pretty, fresh, clean fragrance. One of those nice all-occasion type smells. On my skin (dry): this dries to a slightly sweeter smell, I definitely smell more of the honey and vanilla. Nothing is cloying or play-doughish, it is just soft and fabulous. Verdict: This is a complex, pretty, wonderful scent that I really enjoyed. Must have big bottle!

I want to smell like dirt! Dirt, Earth, Soil recommendations

Shadow is pure lemon dirt to me.

    Shadow

At first it smelled exactly like lemon pledge. I was scared. After it dried I smell mostly cedar, with a touch of patchouli and sandalwood. Would be lovely as a body wash or room scent, but I'm not fond of it as perfume.

    Perversion

I was worried I wouldn't like this because the smell of Elegba turned my stomach and I was told the two are similar. I actually love this scent. It's sweet but not sickeningly so, smoky, and oh so yummy. At first I smell the vanilla, and something else -a little bit fruity, maybe. Apricot? Coconut? Just a hint of leather, tobacco and a nice smoky base make this smell divine. Very sexy, and a bit naughty. In short, it's excellent.

    Lightning

This is a nice smell, but not for me. I think it would be delicious on a man, though. ETA: I had my husband put this one the other day. I could smell him from across the room....and it wasn't pretty. This has to be one of the foulest smelling scents I've ever smelled (sorry!). Maybe it's his chemistry. It smells like Glade Rainforest room spray, or perhaps like cheap hairspray. BAD. So bad. AND strong. Even after he washed it off it smelled up the room for like two hours. I am pretty smell sensitive though. Eeek.

    Scarecrow

Harsh, masculine, chemical at first, though it sweetens up some with wear. Smells like a man's cologne -actually, I think I might test it out on my husband. It's definitely not feminine, and though I like woodsy scents, I won't be wearing this.
