    Drops of of Amontillado

Drops of Amontillado smells like sweet sherry! Super grapey, for those who love the BPAL red wine note. Agree there's a musky woodiness behind this, something dry that tempers the sweetness.

    The Orange Window Hair Gloss

King mandarin, wildflower honey, cognac, labdanum, honeybush and blood orange. The Orange Window HG is like an orange-lovers' dream. The king mandarin and blood orange are in the forefront, with the honey. The cognac, labdanum, and rooibos trail, making this a bit boozy/resiny and adding a subtle tea note. I think this is my second-favorite of the Halloween hair glosses I've received this year, and would layer so beautifully with any orange-dominant perfume or Snake Oil.

    The White Chamber Atmosphere Spray

Lily of the valley, cedarwood, chamomile, vanilla orchid, white sandalwood, and polished oak. I love lily of the valley so was super excited for this atmo. And lily of the valley is definitely the star here. The cedarwood, sandalwood, and oak cut the sweetness of the floral and give this a woody base. The chamomile and vanilla orchid give it a slightly herbal edge/additional floral that skews a bit waxy and spicy. Super pretty!
  13. Kitchen herbs and rosebushes streaming with snow peas and fluttering petals. Wow, this smells like spring! Kind of a weird experience to spray this when there's snow on the ground outside, but I'll happily indulge in anything to distract me from winter's chill. A Triumphal Arch of Leaves and Flowers atmo spray is really equally split between the herbs, the snow peas, and the roses. The herbs and snowpeas make a kind of phantom note that reminds me a bit of seaweed—in a good way! There's something very green here to balance out the rosebushes. After spraying, my husband walked in and said "Roses!" so clearly it's not rose-light, but the greenery is prominent. After a bit, this smells, somehow, like a green rose. It's fascinating! I'll definitely keep and enjoy this one, especially since spring is a ways off yet. ETA: This morning the room I spritzed this in smelled mostly of roses, with just a hint of green. I love rose and am so glad this note won out and lingers.

Candy Canes, Powdered Sugar, Snickerdoodles, and Vanilla Cream

Candy Canes, Powdered Sugar, Snickerdoodles, and Vanilla Cream hair gloss is like the smell wafting over from a table of holiday goodies. It does smell like angel food cake, plus a hint of mint and cinnamon. As this evolves in my hair, I catch moments where I smell the individual components—a snickerdoodle here, a candy cane there—but mostly this is just a happy wallow of treats that manages to truly not be too sweet, at least to me. As fun as I’d hoped it would be!

    Ziegenkopf Hair Gloss

Ziegenkopf hair gloss is my favorite of the goaty hair glosses. The black amber, dark mosses, and clove combine to create something green, woodsy, mysterious, and very appealing. Even though there’s no carnation in here, the clove and moss together create a phantom note of carnation that makes this smell like a dark floral. Gorgeous.

Western Small Foot Bat Hair Gloss

Western Small Foot Bat hair gloss is a beautiful rose hair gloss! Creamy, sun-sweetened rose with a hint of patchouli. Very summery and well-blended, no edges on this one.

    Southern Yellow Bat Hair Gloss

Southern Yellow Bat hair gloss is like an upscale gourmand pumpkin. The smoked pumpkin note here is very subtle/beautifully dosed, and in fact I get more of the sugared almond (smells like marzipan!). The patchouli and golden amber round this out and make it smell verrrry smooth. The longer I wear this in my hair, the more smoked pumpkin I get, but it remains very well balanced. The result is a hair gloss that smells gently seasonal but could also be worn all year long. I’ve worn it a few times and I like it more each time. So glad I picked this one up!

    The Blue Window Hair Gloss

The Blue Window hair gloss has a gentle foundation of blue musk and orris blend, with pastel layers of blackcurrant and rose floating above it. I definitely get the blackcurrant and rose notes, but they are restrained. I wore this to work and could smell it all day, but I don’t think anyone else could detect it. Agree that this is for orris lovers! I think it would pair beautifully with Cabbage White or The Shield.

    Endless Night Bath Oil

Endless Night bath oil is honeyed blackberry musk on me, with opium and bay leaf giving it depth and complexity. This would be a great nighttime bath soak or moisturizer, and would pair well with Lady Una, Bewitched, or Mummeries and Straining-to-be-Memorable Passages. I find it very relaxing.

    The Violet Chamber Atmosphere Spray

The Violet Chamber atmo is gorgeous. Yes, 'perfumey' (orchid + oudh, I imagine) but in the best way. The fig is light here, and the pluot and bourbon geranium are also applied with a gentle hand. It comes across as a dusky, well-blended scent, and agree with z_z that this smells upscale. It's like a fruity floral for a Hitchcock blonde. I have a lilac-colored wool winter dress coat, and I'm going to lightly spritz the lining with this—and maybe also my sheets as well.

    The Orange Chamber Atmosphere Spray

The Orange Chamber atmo is a total mood-lifter at this time of year because it smells like sunshine. Fresh, sweet orange (yum, mandarin and blood orange) and beautiful orange blossom team up for a bright, luscious ray of happiness. The leather and teakwood are very subtle, grounding those effervescent citrus and floral notes so they don't float away. It's really pretty and also super fresh, very energizing. I accidentally ordered two bottles and I don't regret it.

The Women's Song of Mourning Hair Gloss

Can the fire of the heart be extinguished in the flames of the funeral pile? Red sandalwood, black clove, fiery saffron, and honeyed amber. If the red sandalwood note in Crimson or Sinus Amoris is your happy place (as it is mine), you should try The Women's Song of Mourning! It's delectable here, and at least on me, makes this hair gloss smell like an early Lupercalia treat—red and sexy and decadent. The honeyed amber is married to the sandalwood very smoothly, and the clove and saffron are detectable but not overwhelming. I'm trying to write the review and I just want to huff my own hair...one of my favorite hair glosses of 2015, for sure!

    Incolumitas

Incolumitas really is a comforting scent. Lavender, sage, patchouli, vanilla, and a smidge of honey are all present and detectible. Wet, the lavender wins and the other notes fall within its herbal hug. But as it dries down, the patchouli, vanilla, and sage claim snuggly prominence in this blend. The result is something herbal, gourmand, and musky-earthy-grounding. It does make me feel safe! It also makes me feel like I might be able to rest. I would totally buy a bottle of this if it were available! The smell of cozy, comfy, sleepy-beepy love.

    Zoe and the Goat

Agree that the patchouli in Zoe and the Goat is reminiscent of the patch in Silkybat. On me, this is like a honeyed, golden Silkybat, almost like if Silkybat was dipped in Golden Syrup. I can also see comparisons to Goblin and Tricksy...that so many reviews are comparing this blend to beloved other BPAL blends says something alone. Definitely for lovers of patchouli and honey, this is smooth and sweet and creamy.

    The Serpentine Bath Oil

I love the perfume oil so much that I bought two bottles of the bath oil. And Serpentine bath oil is everything I dreamed of! I also use this as an after-shower moisturizer. It's lavender-forward, with the Dorian and snowdrops underneath, and downy soft, the equivalent of a pale lilac color. So relaxing and comforting. I'll enjoy using these bottles up this winter—it's perfect after a nighttime bath for a great night of sleep or a decadent start to a weekday.
