Recommend a scent for a specific dress or outfit

I was gonna say Pele or Hi'iaka!

This is really, really nice. The rice flower sweetness and honey are on top, spiced with my beloved pepper. Followed closely by sandalwood, with deep woody oakmoss on bottom. When I first put it on it smelled JUST like something else, and I was like, WHAT?! but the drydown changed all that. I think the oakmoss was hitting me first, but as the blend dries, the sweetness comes out on top. Another Shunga I may have to score a bottle of.

Autumn Moon of the Mirror Stand

AGREE. This reminds me of Black Lace because of the cognac; it's really lovely. This is such a rich, juicy, smooth blend -- mysterious and sexy, and very, very feminine. This is the scent I'd wear just on the pulse points to the opera in a gorgeous dark dress. It is amazing. I cannot stop smelling myself. ETA: Wow, long wear-time. I put this on and it lasted all day without any reapplication, and there was still a faintly honey tinge to my wrists when I got up this morning. Will definitely be buying a bottle (or two) of this.

    Okayaki

I got a delicate vanilla-like musky scent on first application, which immediately settled into a creamy floral. As it dries down, I'm getting powdery amber and the soft, silvery snow note. The bergamot and lily are blending really well here. Overall this is a soft, creamy, slightly chilly floral with a smooth citrus-y quality. I really love it. It does remind me of Tabella, and since I lost my bottle of that, I may need a bottle of this.

    Rhinotoros

VETIVER. Now, I am a gal who loves her vetiver, so that's not a problem for me -- but on my skin, my first impression of this is that it's almost a single note of vetiver. Once it dries a little from the wet stages, I'm getting patchouli and pepper. Not a shot of grapefruit in sight. Actually, I quite like it. On me it's almost entirely vetiver and patchouli. As it dries further, the pepper is coming out, which makes this extra delish. I AM STILL NOT SMELLING ANY GRAPEFRUIT. I think my skin ate it. It's very smoky and, as someone else said, bonfire-like.

    Konseishin the Penis God

This doesn't feel masculine to ME at all! This is bright apple blossom with peppery spices and sweetness, blending together beautifully into a seamless, rich scent. I have to say I'm really surprised by how much I love this one -- I bought the decant on a total whim, thinking hey! champaca! It's very beautiful. As it dries down I'm getting some "perfumey" qualities -- that kind of biting scent -- and I think it's the balsam. In any case, it's still spicily beautiful, and I am still lovin' it! eta: BOO, HISS. This gave me a migraine. Had to wash off. Swap pile.

    Lovers in a Carp Streamer

Wow. This is just GORGEOUS, but I had expected it to be. From the notes given, I expected this to smell somewhat like Cheshire Cat on my skin, and I am not disappointed. Wet, it goes on almost like a dupe of Cheshire Cat, in fact. As it dries down the cedar is really coming out, changing this blend entirely. What a morpher! The mint is leaving this with a faint impression of coolness, but nothing overly minty -- which is good, because I don't like smelling of mint. Once the mint and fruit burns off, this turns into a warm woods and tobacco flower scent. In my search for the elusive tobacco flower, I gotta say: YAY~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'll give this a few more wears but it's like a bottle purchase.

    Tobacco Flower?

Thanks for all your suggestions (: once I've tried some things, I will come back to say which worked out, so that anyone else interested might know what I found... I can say that Midnight Kiss was sickly sweet for me, I think because I don't do well with scents involving "wine" except for Nosferatu.

    Tobacco Flower?

Hello friends, I've recently become aware that I love, love, LOVE the scent of tobacco flower. I did a search on BPALs that contained it, but here is what I'm wanting to know: which has the strongest tobacco flower note? Which is the most like straight tobacco flower? thanks!

Rose Recommendations - which blend is for me?

Amen, sister. Seance is like my holy grail, for real. I could not believe how completely in love with it I feel. The instant I opened the bottle -- sold. Totally sold. Seance is the warm heart of a deep red rose to me.

    Isaac, the Living Skeleton (2006)

Somehow, this scent is very honeyed on me. I get the bourbon, and overall this is a very "blonde" scent to me. The cologne comes out after a few minutes in a sort of perfume-y, biting manner, but it's not really cutting through that initial honey stage. It's interesting. I don't think it's something I'd wear often. I'm going to put it on DH and see how it is, then.

Which Orisha blend should I buy

I second this -- I ADORE Shango, so I went ahead and finally bought the 5ml I've been wanting of it. It is one of my favourite BPAL scents, it's such an electric and bright fruit scent, and it gets more compliments than anything else for me. I also feel more connection to Shango than the others as I have worked with him. This perfume seems to also encapsulate the orisha's "feel" if that makes sense!

    Blue Moon 2009: Brian's Interpretation

In the bottle & when freshly applied wet, this has something of Schwartzer Mond to it. Which makes sense, because didn't Brian blend them both? Anyway -- It is silvery. I can smell the mugwort immediately as it dries down, blending in a spicy way almost with the frankincense and cardamom. The flowers bloom in the background after a few minutes, sweetening it up a bit. The anise is peeping out from time to time but I'm happy to say it's not dominating the blend. This is a really complex and beautiful blend! It's a very herbal, calming scent, with a luminescent quality to it. I really love this. I can see it being excellent for wear during esbats or rituals as well.

    Cheshire Cat

Cheshire Cat. This is one of the first perfumes I tried from BPAL, and I loved it then and I love it now. I probably already reviewed it somewhere, but I'm coming back because I found my years-old imp in my box today and I put it on... The sweet, herbal chamomile mingles with sparkling grapefruit for me, with the dark musk and lavender swelling underneath. The currant in this blend is bright and unexpected, and it's only gotten better with age. The scent morphs continuously as someone else said, changing on the skin as time passes, but staying beautiful for me every time. I'd forgotten how absolutely mad and fantastic it is. So unexpected, but so brilliant. I've got to have a bottle!

    Gaueko

Quite frankly, I thought this one was a sure bet. Lavender? Love it. Sandalwood? Tobacco? Nag Champa? Love 'em all. But this... isn't working for me. It's mostly lavender with a sort of dry, dusty background. I'm not getting any of the sweetness of nag champa that I love. The sandalwood is faintly baby powdery underneath the dry lavender smell. This is similar to Baku, just more dusty. I had high hopes for this, but alas. Swap pile. ETA: Okay, I changed my mind. I put it on tonight after using Villainess's "Asphyxiate" soap -- which is patchouli & sandalwood -- and it smells BEAUTIFUL. I'm getting the dusty lavender I got before, but now the sweet champa is coming out, layering with a hint of tobacco and the dryness of sandalwood. It is everything I had hoped it would be, for real. I am keeping this imp and, depending on how much wear it gets, possibly will buy more.

    Intrigue

My goddess. I thought I had reviewed this, but it turns out I haven't. I was frimped this by the lab and I have to say, it is the best frimp I have ever gotten. I am in love, love, love with this scent. It's on my bottle list, it's so good. Intrigue is spicy, dark woods and chocolate on me, with an herbal dustiness and air of mystery that lasts for a long time. The fig swells underneath giving it a fruity depth, and the palm is smoothing the whole thing out. I applied it five hours ago and the scent is still going strong. A++++++++++++++++++++

    Tobacco Flower?

Bumping this to ask: how tobacco flower-like is Lulu?? How does it compare to The Lady on the Grey?

    The Snow Maiden

09 - evergreens, berries, frost, and cleanliness. this is a kissing cousin to villainess's "Frostbite" on my skin, and as such, is totally and completely bottle-worthy. Snow Maiden is so bright; silvery winter, like a blanket of snow untouched by wandering feet. It also has a very strong throw!

    Snow White

This. Well, I got coconut-almondy doll plastic, or maybe coconut-almondy tape adhesive. it also, unfortunately, WON'T COME OFF.

    Ded Moroz

This is mint and rose, on me, and very nondescript. The drydown gives me a little amber, but it's not... it's not WOWing me, which is what I thought would happen. On my skin this is a lot like Cloister Graveyard in the Snow, which I already have a bottle of. eta: this has a remarkably short wear-time on my skin, as well. it was gone in a sigh, leaving a faint soapy scent behind it and nothing else.

    Evening Cicadas and Red Peppers

This is bright, cold, and somewhat sweet. It's mostly the scent of woods, sweetened with that "snowy" note and sort of glimmering with the musks. I'm not getting any pepper out of this. Not sure if it's a keeper or not. This fades down into sweet musk. I don't like it; it's not my thing. However, it's nice enough. If you like sweet, feminine 'cold' scents, this might be for you.
  24. Katherynne

    fizzy, sorta carbonated, sparkling blends?

Shattered is fizzy on me; it's "white champagne notes, grapefruit, lotus, slivered mint and crystalline aquatic blooms." It's like grapefruit and cold fizz!

How to remove scents from your skin

I use dish soap, too. Though I have learned that almost anything, if I hate it badly enough, will stay around NO MATTER WHAT. I think my brain just remembers its hatred for a little while.
