    Hungry Ghost Moon 2013

Offerings of hell money, ginger candy, sugar cane, smoky vanilla and rice wine mingle with a ghost's perfume of white sandalwood, ho wood, ti, white grapefruit, crystalline musk and aloe. This scent is tapered by the presence of seven herbs, woods and resins used in the purification of the spirit and the purging of earthly concerns from the soul. Got my bottle today! I wish I were better at describing, but these are my impressions. I tested this on one wrist, with the 2006 version on the opposite. This version is much more foody to me in the bottle - it smelled a bit like Huesos de Santo, kind of orangey cake. On my skin, that disappeared almost immediately. As it dried, the character became similar to the 2006 version but while that one feels more citrusy and 'bright' or 'white', this one is warmer, deeper, maybe even muskier? It seems to have faded a little faster, but that could be because I didn't use as much for the test.

    Peninsula Deliriorum

It's weird, but, in the bottle this smells very sharp and herbal, not exactly pleasant. On my skin it blossomed into something entirely different, a strong "clean" scent with a hint of white floral creaminess. It kind of reminds me of Gossamer v3, which I like very much. Glad I took a chance and bought this bottle.

    Scrappy Damsel

I could weep. Seriously. This oil sounded so fantastic, all those beautiful notes, and on me it's nothing but wood and a weird rancid musty sourness that I think is partly the honey (and I'm normally good with honey, helloooooooo Mead Moon my beloved). BITTER. TEARS. Edit for typing fail.

    Baruch's Phoenix

I want what Alaeidrel got! Instead mine is, wet, all dry woodsiness. Guessing that's the cedar. Eventually it dries down a bit sweet with some hints of the orange, but that's all. Maybe I'll try it again later before consigning it to swaps, it has so many awesome sounding notes in it. Disappointed that all I get is wood.

    Ezekiel's Phoenix

Dark, spicy fruit with slight undertones of wood and a little smoke... quite delightful, and I'm glad I bought a bottle blind!

    Lunar Phoenix

When I first tried this on, I was heartbroken thinking I wouldn't like it. It goes on with a weird mustiness that makes my nose wrinkle. However. As I'd put it on and then run out the door, I couldn't wash it off -- which was great, because within about 15 minutes it had morphed into something delightful. I think it is the lettuce, but it reminded me a bit of Cancer, which is one of my favorites. I guess that's not surprising

    Mercurian Phoenix

This was on my wishlist due to the scent notes, which sounded amazing! I was lucky enough to receive a bottle from a forumite, so it makes me sad that I don't really like it. Wet, it's all lemon, lemon CANDY, like lemon Jolly Ranchers. I don't mind lemon, but I don't like it when it dominates. Once it's fully dry, the lemon is all gone and it becomes something entirely different -- very earthy and musty, no throw -- I get the anise there but don't know what else. It's... interesting... but not something I want to smell like. Alas.

    All Souls

(2013 ver.) I liked this when I first tried the decant, but wasn't sure I wanted a bottle. I will have to go back and order one now -- I wore it all day at work yesterday and it really is the sweet incense smell I wanted. A lot of the incense blends I've tried have been too dry and sharp to my nose. This one goes on with cake and a fruitiness from the currents, and dries down into the most beautiful, perfect incense. If I have one complaint, it's that I wish it stayed a bit longer on my skin, but very few oils have good staying power on me.

    Ooky

When I first put this on, I get a very strong waft of lemony sugar icing - that kind of icing you see on cakes you get at the grocery story bakery, where it's pretty much pure sugar, so strong the smell of sugar rises off the cake and kinda makes your teeth ache in anticipation. So that kind of icing, over a lemony cake. As it dried down, I kept sniffing my arm trying to think what it reminded me of, and then I realized: potpourri. This is probably a great foody scent, but with my tastes and skin chemistry, it's a no.

    Haunted Houses

Reading these reviews makes me think I must be crazy (or really, just that I haven't learned to pick out notes very well yet) I mainly got what smelled like vetiver. Not in a bad way; a nice, polite, friendly vetiver that snuggled up to my skin, kind of like in Desmonema. I need to do a full-slather test when my nose isn't tired from sniffing 15+ decants and see if I don't end up with a bottle.

    Le Revenant

I put this on, and gardenia immediately came and punched me in the face. After about an hour, it'd settled the heck down and I was getting wafts of something slightly fruity and really quite pleasant. I rescued my decant from the "Noooope!" pile at that point, but definitely not a bottle scent as that gardenia cacophony was hard going. (YMMV; the only floral I dislike more than gardenia is rose, which is my all-time most hated note)
  12. Impulsively picked a bottle of this as part of a multiple-bottle purchase from another forumite. SO. GLAD. Sniffing the bottle, I just get sweet maple syrup deliciousness, and indeed when I put it on, that is a big part of the throw that I get throughout. As it starts to dry, when I sniff my skin, I get a bit of a grassy smell... but nothing burning/scorched (I was a bit worried, tbh, and apparently for no reason). After a couple of hours, when I sniff my wrist I smell incense that would be very dry except for a lingering syrup sweetness that just turns it into a balanced delight. A new favorite.

    Elegy No. 1 S. 196

This is like, Helloooooooo bergamot! at first. After a bit, I can get a hint of the dryness from the sandalwood and something I think is the musk. When it dries down it gets very dry and I think I get a hint of the ambergris, but more of a suggestion because I know it's in there vs an actual hit of scent. Will enjoy the decant but not sure if I want a bottle yet.

    Stentor

From the notes I expected to love this more than I actually did - I expected to love it lots, even though I'm iffy on juniper berry and vetiver. There was a phase where it was really very nice and compelling to my nose, but overall had me making this quizzical "what IS that smell?" face. I just couldn't decide how I felt about it because it was a knifepoint balance between "OMG so wonderful" and "wash it off NOW". It also created a borderline-unpleasant burning sensation on my skin- at least, in the crook of my elbows- which is a first. Other mints and even cinnamon have had no such effect before, so I wonder what that was about? I keep meaning to try my decant again for a firmer opinion, but I remember the burning and reach for something else. will edit later with better notes on what it actually smells like once I'm brave enough to test again

Scent similar to Hollywood Pink by Mark

I definitely got more of the chocolate from it too! I still have one sad partial bottle of lotion that I've been hoarding Would love to find something similar but I haven't run across it in my BPAL travels yet.

    Lunar Eclipse: April 2013

So, so, SO glad I took a chance and bought this. I'm not too good at picking out notes, but I think I'm getting the tea and the musk. This is overall sweet with a certain spiciness. Lovely all the way - it's just on my skin now after a few hours (I just tested a little on the back of my hand, so this isn't the best test of staying power) to where I have to put my nose right next to my skin to sniff it... which I keep on doing.

    RPG Combos

I got my RPG imps last night... Today I decided to be bold and after sniffing everything, put on a little Lawful Good Half-Elf Bard. LOVING IT. I just put parallel stripes of each on one wrist, and rubbed my wrists together. It just all blended together wonderfully. I get whiffs of it but I also keep sniffing myself I need to try something with Halfling and Druid next I think.

    Unveiled

I sort of impulse-bought a bottle of Unveiled on the forum just based on the notes listed... NO REGRETS. NONE. I tried it yesterday and was in instant love, had to wear it today even though I have reams of things yet to try. It's a little fruity and fairly floral and a bit dark (maybe the myrrh? it's almost incense-y) and overall perfumey in the BEST way.

    Book smell deathmatch (heh)

I've worn both Lurid Library and Philologus before, but not tested them against each other -- so tonight, I have Philologus on my left wrist and the Library on my right. Library is coming out sweeter and more incense-y, but Philologus smells much more like old books to me. Both are extremely agreeable in their own way and this is still not helping me decide which should have a place in the gridded part of my BPAL box that only holds 9 bottles.

    Vice

Smells divine in the vial - I got the imp as a freebie with a purchase, popped the top and nearly swooned - but it literally disappeared from my skin in under an hour. The chocolate part lasted maybe a minute - then faded to the fruit which I did also enjoy - but then my skin just drank all of it and nothing was left. SADFACE. Still want to keep the imp, if for no other reason than to open it and take a deep sniff when I'm PMSing or something

    Arcana

I'm really not good at picking out fragrance notes, but this one has so many that I'm familiar with, it was a shoe-in to get an imp to try. I really loved this scent, both in the vial and on my skin, but it didn't last too long at all - 2 hours at most. When it first went on, I got a strong sense of the sweet neroli and lemony-tart verbena with the lavender underneath - never lost anything but I think they receded a bit as time went on, but not totally. It just sort of faded sweetly. A lovely, calming scent. Definitely on my "get a full bottle" list regardless of the short life it has on my skin!
