    Fruit Moon

This is a strong sugared fruits smell, of sweet to citrus fruits mixed in kiwi & cantaloupe fruit juice - I can't pick out the various fruits from sniffing the vial because of it's strength; but it's both sweet and sharp. It reminds me of tropical fruit cocktails! On my skin it mellows, and becomes softer and sweeter. The citrus fades and the sweetness comes out - it's fruity and sweet and sugary. Mmm.

    Thirteen (13)

In our paean to all the mysteries surrounding this enigmatic number, there are thirteen lucky and unlucky components, including white chocolate, tangerine, currant, mandarin, white tea and iris. Sniffing from the vial, this smells like Jaffas to me: Chocolate orange yumminess that makes me want to go to the cinemas for some reason...!! On my skin it continues to smell like Jaffas for a while, but gets softer and more of the sweet (as opposed to citrus) fruit smell comes out ... It's sweet, but not overly sweet, and it really isn't as strong as I thought it would be. It fades too fast so I have to refresh it after a couple of hours!

    Pink Phoenix

This is indeed a sweet, silly smell. Sniffing from the vial, the word 'pink' came to mind ... perhaps the title may have swayed my judgement, but it's the pinkest BPAL scent I've smelled yet!! (The most pink would be Aquolina's Pink Sugar which smells exactly like fairy floss (cotton candy/candy floss).) While on my skin, the sweetness is tempered by something ... hm... how to describe it? Something that rounds out the sweetness so it isn't cloying, but it's not really a foody smell. Something with perhaps a little sharpness to it. Perhaps the sweetpea? But it does remind me a little of Strawberry Moon, though it's doesn't have that creamy scent to it. But it is an amazing scent and I couldn't stop sniffing my wrists!!! Mmm.

    Pumpkin Patch II (2005, 2006)

Wow. In the vial, that's the only thing I kept thinking every time I smell it. Wow. It's like Jack, but with added nuts, with only a touch of cocoa. It's an amazing scent, powerful and strong and, well, wow!! On my skin it changes, smooths down somewhat and gets more and more soft as time goes by. Completely different by the end of the day than the smell from the vial! The spicy, slightly sweet smell (sort of like pumpkin/sweetened condensed milk with spices) come through more and more while the other notes fade into the background. One of my friends didn't like the scent in the bottle, but thought it was a good smell on my skin. Whatever it is, it's certainly powerful and it's quite nice. Not really foody, but nice none the less.

    Jacob's Ladder

This is a spicy blend, and the word 'yellow' comes to mind when I smell it from the vial. It's bright and uplifting, yet also has a deep complexity to it. On my skin there is a citrus-like scent that takes over, so it's sort of like spices in lemon juice, with a something (possibly the benzoin) to smooth it out with a slightly vanilla-like touch. It becomes slightly sweeter before it starts to fade. After it fades it becomes a dry scent that seems like the spices have been mixed in with the other scents to give a warm, dry, flat smell on my skin.

    Red Lantern

Mm, In the vial, this is just so delicious and gorgeous - caramel and deep and exotic and slightly coconuty!! But as soon as it hits my skin it changes - the deep richness of the sweet scent disappears and it has a more spicy, piercing scent coming through. Whatever it is, it overpowers the caramel when it touches my skin and makes it less sweet and maybe a touch smoky. After a few hours it's much more subtle and is still a touch smoky (the tobacco, I guess) and a touch sweet. I was hoping that my skin would amp the sweetness, as it usually does with BPAL scents, but it didn't work out that way ... if only it smelled on my skin just like it did in the vial!! But I still like it, just not as much as in the vial. It works extremely well in my car diffuser! My car smells delicious!

    Pumpkin Patch V (2005, 2006)

This is an interesting smell - sweet, from the pumpkin, with something coming through. A little sharp, slightly spicy and earthy, which is probably the wood, ivy and/or galangal root. On my skin this morphs into something else. It starts sweet and spicy and goes through to subtle, smooth, sweet, musky (yet a little dry) scent with a slightly green touch to it. It's a very complex, but nice, mix.

    Trick or Treat

I've no idea what candy corn is meant to smell like, as we don't have it here. Until I Googled it, I assumed it was something like Lolly Gobble Bliss Bombs (popcorn covered in toffee stuff that is hard to find these days), but I'm wrong! In the vial I can smell a very sticky sweet scent, perhaps with corn behind it? There is some scent that is savoury behind the sweetness. On my skin, on the other hand, it ends up smelling like sweetened condensed milk with spices! It reminds me a lot of Jack on my skin. Mmm, yummy!

    Sugar Skull

Mm, in the vial this smells like slightly burned brown sugar!! It is strong, but I'm quite happy with the strong foody scents. When I wear it, the scent doesn't change much at all (same with the other strong foody ones like Beaver Moon and Midway and Gluttony) - it does lose the burned smell over time as the scent fades. It eventually ends up smelling like I'm wearing soft brown sugar; it's quite pleasant and sweet.

    Parlement of Foules

Roses, roses and more roses! That's what I smell in the vial, pure roses. So wearing it give a very floral rose scent for most of the time I wore it. Eventually, as another said when I asked him to smell it, it became more complex (after a few hours) with the 'resins' showing through. It reminded me of the smell of the sandlewood in Khajuraho after that had been on my skin for a few hours. A sort of wooden scent came through the roses. Quite nice.

    The Tell-Tale Heart

This is a swollen, pulsating, thudding scent, heavy with dread; a steady, unceasing, throbbing harbinger of retribution and doom: blood musk, cocoa, black pepper, allspice, dragon’s blood resin and vetiver. Now that I see the description, I can pick up the cocoa when I smell the scent from the vial. It's cocoa with something sharp through it, probably the pepper and all spice, because I've no real idea what blood musk (like musk, I assume!) or dragon's blood smells like. On my skin the sweetness comes through the spice, and as usual the scent sweetens up. It is really delicious, a very good mixing of the cocoa and spices that become a touch musky that I really enjoy the smell of. It's not foody, but it's very lovely. This fades on my skin too quickly! It's just so gentle and almost not there on my skin after a few hours. Perhaps just a waft of something subtle and slightly sweet, but I can't detect much else.
  12. Oh this is yummy on my skin, after it settles down! It's like all the sweetness of the honey and dates and florals all come out to play on my skin! It's gorgeously sweet and delicious. It reminds me a little of something like Lampades or Baneberry. Mmmm!! I love it!

    Khajuraho

When sniffing from the vial it's a dark scent (probably the sandalwood), reminiscent of incense, that almost has a hint of something like anise behind it. But oh this is yummy on my skin, after it settles down! It's like all the sweetness of the honey and dates and florals all come out to play on my skin! It's gorgeously sweet and delicious. It reminds me a little of something like Lampades or Baneberry. Mmmm!! I love it! Eventually the sweetness fades a little and the sandlewood comes through - kind of like flowers and dates and honey on a sandlewood platter.

    Come to Me

In the vial it smells slightly floral and possibly a bit herbal. It's soft, cool and light. When I wear it, it changes. It's still soft and cool but stronger when I first put it on, and has this sort of nut-like scent that I can sometimes detect in the Voodoo blends that I've got. Over time this nut-like scent goes away and I'm left with a bare hint of subtle scent ... ever, ever so slightly floral-sweet and a touch of something else, possibly the herbs, but still with a coolness to it. And it goes really well on my skin with a touch of Snake Oil. I couldn't stop sniffing!!!

    Brisingamen

For some reason, when on my skin, this reminds me of a very gentle version of Love Me. It's got a soft, sweet cola-like (my skin tends to make BPAL scents go sweet), a little spicy but also a slightly powerdery scent. Maybe it's the amber that people talk about?

    Baneberry

This smells like gorgeous, sweet, ripe, yumminess. It's delicious with a sweet berry scent. It smells greener in the vial than it does on my skin. The greenery disappears, and all that's left is an amazingly lovely sweet sugared berry! Mmmm...

    Ode on Melancholy

I can smell the lavendar in the vial, now that I've read the ingredients, but on the skin it turns into a soft, sweet floral. Very pretty and delicate, a beautiful scent. It's got the beauty of Bess and Les Fleurs Du Mal (after the soap-like scent fades). Just lovely and lingering!

    Phantom

There's just something I'm not fond of about this, making it an iffy blend for me. It's a touch floral, but it smells ... well ... savory. This non-sweet smell sticks around for quite some time, and I'm not sure if I want to wear it for that long. It kind of also reminds me of a man's cologne, but not fully. When the savory scent dies away, after a few hours, I can smell a sweet floral. I'm just not sure I want to wear it for that long first ... After reading the ingredients listed, I guess it's the myrrh that I am detecting behind all the flowers. It isn't strong like in Athens, but myrrh isn't a scent I like. :/

    Thalia

Wearing this was a sort of floral with sweet fruit, but something reminded me of creaminess and depth... I'm not sure about smelling champagne when it's on my skin, but I guess it must be the champagne giving it the depth. It's a lovely little scent, IMO.

    Medicine Show

I'm not sure where to begin with this one! I can hardly smell it in the vial, but on the little dipping lid thingy it smells like ... something a little bitey, though I've no real idea what it is. On me it goes, over time, a little like All Saints - rose incense - I guess, though it's also a little more savory underneath. It's a rather odd scent, I've got to say! And now that it's over half way through the day (say 7 hours after putting it on), I swear I can smell a faint chocolate smell and nothing else!?!? Or am I imagining things? @_@

    Love Me

What an odd scent! I'm not really sure what it is, other than when I sniff from the vial it's somewhat strong. But when I put it on, I can smell what people are talking about when they talk about cola (a sweet cola on me) and bubblegum (I'm assuming cinnamon bubblegum, as it doesn't smell like the bubblegum they sell here in Australia!), but it's also a bit powdery on me. It's a very distinctive scent. It's not quite so strong on me, and the more time passes the more it fades. The first time I wore it, I had a male friend ask what it was that I was wearing. I told him, and he said that it was nice. Last night the boy was a touch naughty when saying goodnight at the pub, but it didn't make him cleave to my side or anything! But both times I was in a pub filled with cigarette smoke (bleh), so maybe I'll have to try it another time when the smoke won't cover the scent. ;p

    Love in the Asylum

This is a very unusual scent. It's completely and utterly different on my skin than in the vial. I can't really describe what the vial smells like, but it's a mixture of things that give it a scent that isn't floral to my nose. Maybe a bit medicinal, but not really. But it's not an overpowering scent, it's actually more gentle. On me, it changes into something again that's odd, but I think people are right in that it smells of roses. But I didn't pick the roses, because it's again still got other scents mixed in. It's more incense-like, I guess, but that's not quite right as it becomes slightly sweeter on me... ...With a whiff of something really strange in it. Something maybe sharper or more medicinal. Maybe it's the labdanum and/or the tobacco leaf. This odd after-scent starts off strong, fades to revealing itself at the very end of a breath of the scent and then disappears or combines with the rest of the scent - I'm not sure which. I think it seems to fit the theme (love in the asylum) very well!!

    Midway

It doesn't smell like fairy floss (cotton candy) or toffee apples to me... I've no idea what a funnel cake is, or what a midway at a carnival is, but wearing this reminds me a lot of Beaver Moon. I love them both!!! This one is a little sugary and more like caramel fudge, though it mellows a bit over time. I want to eat my wrist!
  24. Thanks! Though he's not a stranger, so maybe not the Queen of the Nile one... Maybe Dixie Love Perfume, Charisma or Blinding Glory of Love? Or Mantle of Venus? Milk & Honey? (And it's off the topic, but had I known, I could have worn the Baptismal one at my Baptism near he begining of the year!!)

    Strawberry Moon 2005

I bought this from my BPAL dealer (ie. my friend who introduced me and a few others to BPAL!) who doesn't like it. From the vial, it smells like sugared strawberries and fake (sugary) cream. Mmmm. A very sweet scent. When it's first on my skin, it isn't that sweet, it's a deeper fake berry smell, but it soon goes sweeter and again ends up smelling like sugared strawberries and fake cream on me, but it still has a depth of some other scents behind the sweet smell. It's a lovely, sweet foody smell, and not for the faint hearted because of it's strength. I find it yummy and love catching a whiff of it now and again. Mmm. *laugh* And a friend last night, after I got him to sniff it, said, "I don't know what it is, but don't make me have to eat you!" because of the scent!!
