I don't know what I expected, but the description of all the notes just called to me. I usually love anything with Dragon's Blood. Wet: in the bottle, it's all herbal, and reminiscent of some scent from my distant past that I can't quite recall. On my skin: I can't pick out any particular note, but the blend is beautiful, soft, and neither completely herbal nor floral. And there's that fleeting memory that I've smelled this before.... wait! Earlier in this thread, Taniwha said it smells like the original Herbal Essence- that's it! I used that shampoo when I was in college in the 70's, and this does smell familiar! Don't worry, it doesn't smell like this It just makes me feel happy to wear it. edited: oh noes! spelling error

    Heavy BPAL scents

Bloodlust! I amp dragon's blood, so it's a good thing that I love how it smells on me, but with this one, the patchouli, red musk, and vetiver keep the dragon's blood in check, and the vetiver really comes out to play after about a half hour. It's sex in a bottle to me.

    Gemini 2007

I am not a big fan of lavender because it usually turns into a medicinal scent on me, but I had to buy Gemini because it's my astrological sign. In the bottle, oh yes definitely lavender. When I first applied it, still lavender, but not unpleasant or medicinal. But then after about a half hour- what is that scent that is wafting to me? Is it the orchid? It doesn't smell like the descriptions of benzoin, so it must be the orchid. Whatever it is, I love this! A floral that is very pretty and calming and it just makes me feel good to wear it. I'm having a hard time putting it into words, which is hard to believe (being the typical talky Gemini that I am) but it smells exactly like I want to smell. I am really sorry I didn't buy two bottles.

    Monster Bait: Tokyo Stomp

In the imp, I could smell the mint but I wondered where all the thin mints descriptions were coming from. But once I applied it, hello! Definitely thin mint, but not too strong or sharp on the mint. This is very pleasant and fresh, and now I am really mad at myself for not ordering a bottle!

    Milk Moon 2007

Milk Moon is defintely not for me. I shouldn't have been surprised, because I detest the taste and smell of milk. But despite smelling to me like sour milk in the imp, I went ahead and tried it. Ugh- had to wash it off, and even then I could still smell it. Like a song that has earwormed its way into my brain, Milk Moon became stuck in my nose and I could still smell it hours later. Off to the swap pile.

    Urd

I can't believe I waited this long to try Urd! I bought an imp after reading all the reviews that say it smells like a headshop, because I've always loved that scent, although I'm not at all the type anyone would think of when they hear the word "headshop." I should have just gone for a bottle right away. I love the way this smells on me- at first, it's all Nag Champa and I didn't get the patchouli, which is odd because my skin usually amps patchouli. But after about 30 minutes, hello! There's the patchouli, too. This is also a long-lasting scent on me. I put it on about 6 hours ago, and it's still going strong. I catch wafts of it whenever I move or reach for something. This one is not only a keeper, but is going straight to the top of my "must never be without" list. I'm going to have to order 2 bottles right away!

    Midnight Mass

Someone on another thread was asking if a scent smelled like Catholic church incense, and I responded that it had been too many years since I was at Mass to really remember that scent. (I know, I'm in trouble ) But I just received my order of Midnight Mass 2006, and that memory rushed back into my brain! valentina's description captures it perfectly! This smells exactly like the Catholic church where I grew up and spent so many Catholic school girl days!

    Hamadryad

This was a frimp from the lab. At first, I thought I smelled rootbeer. But no, maybe it's wintergreen. No, it's rootbeer. OK, after 15 minutes it's still the strangest mixture of wintergreen and rootbeer. Not completely unpleasant, but not something I want to smell like. It reminds me of a cleaning product scent. Maybe it will work in the oil burner.

    Leather

I received a frimp of Iago and after I tried it, the memory washed over me of an old shoe repair shop in my home town. My dad would take me along when he dropped off his shoes when I was a kid. Strong scent of old leather shoes...very manly, not unpleasant, but not something I wanted to smell like.
  10. Can anyone recommend something from the GC catalog that is closely similar to Chrysanthemum Moon? I just love it, and my bottle is getting low....

    Chrysanthemum Moon

This is my first lunacy oil. I have passed on the others because I decided when I discovered BPAL that there are so many GC scents to try, that I would just ignore the lunacies and other limited editions. Then I read the Mum moon description, and next thing you know, I'm ordering two bottles! It just arrived today, and I couldn't wait to try it. Slathered quite a bit on both wrists and back of my hand, and now I can't stop sniffing. This is a beautiful scent. I'm not good at picking out the individual notes, but all I can tell is it's a softcreamydustyspicyfloral and I love this! So glad I have two bottles to hoard. eta: I put a little more on before bedtime, and it is now almost 4 PM the next day and I can still smell this! Lovely lovely lovely.

    F5

My first limited edition bottle. I'm not even sure what prompted me to order it, because I'm more the patchouli incense type , but I'm so glad I did! In the bottle- green tea and mint! For once, I can actually identify the scents that other people have described. On my skin- fresh, soft, minty, mmhmmm, I like this! Verdict- My bedtime Bpal is Blood, but once in a while I use a rosemary mint lotion instead. I'm really glad I bought F5, and I think it just might become my new bedtime Bpal.

    Hetairae

I received this as a frimp from the lab. Perfumes on me rarely smell close to the way they do in the bottle (except for Snake Oil ), so I rarely even bother to sniff them before applying. I always figure I can wash it off if it's something that disagrees with my skin. But I'm an adventurous type, and willing to try about anything, so I slather away! Hetairae is the first "honey" scent that actually smells like honey on me! This is all smooth honey and clove on my skin. A very soft scent, very pleasant, and I keep sniffing my arm, but I'm not sure if I would wear it very often. I've been described as having somewhat of a strong personality, and tend to wear scents to match

    EPIC BPAL Spreadsheet Thread

First, click on the box where you want to freeze everything. The cursor should look like a +. Then, go to Window, Freeze panes, and you will be able to scroll up and down, and sideways, and keep categories you want as well as only the top line with the titles. Example: I usually click inside box C2, and then freeze the panes, to keep the category and name in view while I scroll.

    Where is this scent?

Thank you so much, and for being so fast! I swear I looked and looked, but now that I think of it, I didn't check Wanderlust. My bad!

    Where is this scent?

I received my order today (yay, 2- 10 mls of Snake Oil-y goodness ) and the labbies generously threw in some frimps. I've found all except for one: R'Lyeh. I've tried the search engine, I've scrolled through every review in the forum, and no luck. Anyone able to help me out? edited for spelling

    Recs for Longest Lasting Oils

Snake Oil, Anne Bonny, Snake Charmer, and Blood last all day on me. I am a slatherer, though, so I'm sure that helps. I really love the spicy/incense/patchouli notes. I usually reserve Blood for my bedtime Bpal, and can always still smell it in the morning. My cat, who sleeps on my head, massages my temples with his tiny kitty-paws and sucks on my hair all night, loves it when I wear Blood, too.

    Erato

This was a frimp I received with an order in March, and I finally tried it today. In the bottle, very floral rose scent. I like florals, but don't usually care for rose. But I love trying new things, so here goes. It smells very nice on my skin... still a strong rose scent, but surprisingly, I like it! Has excellent staying power. I caught some mild whiffs of it this afternoon when I bent over to pick something up (yes, I applied it between the girls ) It wasn't too strong, but one of those "hmmm what scent am I wearing today that smells great oh yes Erato how funny since I don't care for rose scents" ways. Too bad, cause it looks like this one is not currently available. ETA: I must have looked it up wrong, because I found that it is still available!

    Debauchery

In the bottle, I could smell a musky floral scent. Wet on my skin, initially it's not very strong at all on me. Dry- holy crap- all of a sudden it amps way up and smells like water that has been left in a vase of dead wilted roses for about a week after they died. I know that scent well, because I frequently to forget to dump them out. Unfortunately, I put it on right before leaving for work, and all day I kept getting a waft of it as I moved. No one else commented, so maybe it wasn't strong enough to bother others, but I couldn't wait to shower it off when I got home. Of all times for a scent to remain so long-lasting... the ones I love seem to be gone in a couple hours. Dead floral water scent lasts and lasts. Edited to update my original April 2006 review on 9/18/2011: Wow has my nose changed since I first tried and reviewed this in 2006! This was one of the first BPAL scents I had purchased. Years later, Puddin' frimpd me an imp with my Etsy order, and I am so glad that he did! Red musk is one of my favorite notes along with opium. Now that my nose is accustomed to BPAL and not overwhelmed by dept. store alcohol-based perfumes, I have no idea where I came up with the original hatred of this scent! I imagine that my untrained nose picked up civet and nothing but. However, years later, and testing a fresh imp, I can detect the red musk, civet, and opium. And all I can say is that I was SO WRONG the first time! If I didn't already have so many other bottles of red-musk based scents, especially LE's, then I would definitely order a bottle of this. This is well-blended and the civet does not stand out, so those who fear that note shouldn't worry too much, I would think. This is another example of why you should never let your first impression of BPAL be your only impression, and why it's a good idea to re-test after you become more familiar with different notes.

    Nyarlathotep

Brooding, yet electric: the scent of buried secrets, roiling nightmares, the essence of the Crawling Chaos, the Father of Knives and Locusts, the Hunter in the Dark. This is the blackest of ritual incenses charged with flashes of ozone. Another generous frimp from the lab (thanks, labbies!). In the imp and on my skin, incense and a citrusy scent. Much lighter than I expected. Nice, but too light and fades too fast for me to re-order.

    Dragon's Heart

This was a generous frimp from the lab, and on first applying it, I am hooked! MUST. HAVE. MORE. On skin: musky, resin, spicy dragon's blood. I can't stop sniffing my wrist. Want to slather this one all over. Seems to have a decent enough lasting ability on me- the max I have been able to get out of any BPAL before reapplying is about 3 hours, and this one has hit that mark, so I consider it a success.

    Snake Oil

Just received my first ever BPAL order, and because of all the positive reviews, I had to try Snake Oil first. In the bottle: spicy vanilla. I will wear vanilla once in a while, but am not a big fan. Let's see what this one does. On my skin: mmmmmmgood! Hard to separate the vanilla from the spice, and I can't quite figure out exactly what it smells like, but I love it. Can't stop sniffing my wrist. After one hour, and two-three-four... still going strong, and I really do love this! Lasts till I shower it off at the end of the day. I'm definitely getting a big bottle of this one! Edited 5/12/12: haha going through My Stash and rediscoverd this review, which was probably my first-ever BPAL review. Since my initial review, I have to add that Snake Oil remains one of my most favorite, go-to scents of all time. I have gone through 3 of the 10 ml. bottles, have 1/2 of one 10 ml left (aged from 2006 so it's truly decadent and I save it for special occasions only) and have also used up another 2 5 ml bottles. This scent is like nothing else I've ever encountered (outside of BPAL, I mean) and I hope that Beth is able to keep it around forever.

    Scherezade

In the bottle: smells very similar to Snake Oil, which I love. On my skin: initially, spicy and musky, again similar to Snake Oil, but a milder version. One hour later, it's barely there, and is slightly powdery. I can detect it when I raise my hand towards my face, but it's very mild. Kind of a powder musk. This is only the third scent I've tried (Snake Oil and Blood being the other two) and two of three have gone powder on me!

    Blood

In the bottle: I can smell the clove, but the cherry is very strong. On my skin: Starts out with the clove, but the cherry quickly takes over. Within the first hour, it for some strange reason turned to a powder scent on my skin! Not unpleasant, but not at all what I was expecting or wanting! Lasts for hours, but remains a powdery scent. Pleasant enough to use up my imp, but I wouldn't order more. 4/9/06 ETA OK, I have to go back and change this review, because after the first time I tried it, I've never gotten the powder scent again. In fact, this has quickly become one of my favorites, and I have a 5 ml bottle on order and am already regretting that I didn't just go ahead and order the 10 ml. Next order coming up! Must have been something wrong with my sniffer the first time. I've finished up my imp, and the cherry/clove mingling remains long lasting on my skin. I've been putting it on at bedtime nightly, and can still smell it in the morning when I wake up. Very sexy scent.
