    Tweedledee

Hello, yellow Thai curry. There's the lemongrass, there's the curry powder.... yep! I'd rather eat this with some Jasmine rice than wear it as a scent. Dunno what is causing that dead-on Thai curry aroma, but there it is. Not liking this as a perfume one wee bit, unfortunately.

    Drink Me

On me this is primarily buttered toast. Its bready, yeasty, and buttery; there's a bit of fruitiness in there, too, but it dissipates when it dries, leaving the crisp biscuit/toast/buttery smell. It smells like the buttery-crisp smell beneath all the unfortunate cassia in Monster Bait: Underbed. Which is awesome. I so wanted to wipe the cassia off the buttery biscuit smell in Underbed- and here it is. The buttery crisp biscuity scent that was half-hidden under the OD of cassia. Happiness! This is a fun GC addition, it's pretty unique in the BPAL pantheon. Yeah. I bonded more with this after I wore it more. We'll call it a 5 out of 5, too. It lasts better than Eat Me. Edited to add: I got a second bottle, a 10mL while I could, and found that the new one is a bit fruitier. Which is good. I like both, can't say I could decide which I like better actually. The buttered biscuit base is still the same, just with a bit more pineapple on it. Pineapple toast! Also like Eat Me, it gets to be MUCH longer lasting as a few weeks pass; my first bottle lasts like whoa, although the scent didn't change in other ways.

    Eat Me

I tested this and my brain exploded with happy. I love the smell of Eat Me! It has this amazing, cakey-vanilla-fruity smell that is absolutely delectable. It doesn't last an incredibly long time on me but that's fine, for the lovely smell that is fresh Eat Me I will slather and reapply all I need to; THANK GOD FOR GENERAL CATALOGUE AMAZINGNESS. Soooo glad I won't have to stalk eBay for more, I can order any I need! And I will. I got a 5mL but damned if I don't need a 10, stat. GIMME MORE. Thank you Beth! 5 out of 5. Edited to add: My first 5mL went the way of the dodo, and I've dented the new 10mL. I use it a LOT. My dork of a brother in law tried to, you guessed it, eat it when he saw the bottle. Apparently it does not taste as good as it smells ;-) I would also add that it ages nicely: aged it lasts longer on skin. It also does this amazing thing when it's fully dry after a few hours that I can't even describe, but is scrumptious.

    Mouse's Long and Sad Tale

Amazing, amazing blend. The vanilla is a beautiful one, the amber is delightful. I love it! Glad I followed my instincts and got a bottle. The vanilla followed by soft, unpowdery amber are the major notes on me, with no sweetpea noticeable (yay!) It truly is a Beth masterpiece. It reminds me of the recent foody-but-not blends like Underpants- this does seem like it may have a whisper of sandalwood in there, a la Underpants... this is actually not a bad GC substitute- not exact, not even close, but in a similar family. 5 out of 5, will wear it a LOT.

    Spectre

Woohoo! Major thanks to the labbies for the fr...bottle? Anyway, this was a very, very welcome surprise with my order. It is one of the few florals that really appeals to me, in a visceral way. It's so hard to know what draws the line between "pretty, but won't wear it much" and "OHGODMORE!" This lands in the latter category, and it's damn hard to find a floral I feel that way about. I suspect the sandalwood helps it. Its just soft, pretty, feminine, but delicious. I love it. The floaty-softness of this blend is amazing. Too bad it's discontinued, but I will snuggle my bottle of it. 5 out of 5. I think it's the lilac & sandalwood that are blowing my mind- I love sandalwood, and fresh real lilac is my favorite floral scent.

    Egg Nog

Sadly, Nog is Play Doh on me, all the way. The one and only vanilla which isn't on me. It smells lovely in the imp- like Sugar Cookie actually, but less spicy- and then *poof*, it's instant Play Doh. Dammit .Oh well, last thing I need is another LE to hunt down. Glad I got to try it anyhoo. 1 out of 5.

    Jezebel

And here I thought I'd reviewed Jezzy. Anyway, it's one of those which some days is seductively gorgeous, honey-sweet and swoony. And others is over-the-top too sweet. It's gotten a bit better over the few months I've owned the imp; I think it's aged pretty well, the sandalwood balances the honey a bit better. I'd probably order a 5ml and take my chances with it, except I find O and Alice to be my Holy Grail BPAL honey scents, with O being like a better version of Jezebel, and Alice being the more innocent, less drop-dead-sexy one. Anyway, Jezzy gets a 4 from me, out of 5.

    Forbidden Fruit

Well, huh. I usually like lotus- it isn't bad on me I swear!- but this has a weird undertone under the lovely lotus. It actually gets better as it dries but it's still there, bugging me. It's a harsh note, a weird dissonance. No amber, not really citrussy. Oh well, off it goes! 2 out of 5.

Chaos Theory II : The Butterfly Effect

XLIV: 44, I do believe. I got this from someone who got a cake/buttercream vibe from it. I can see where that came from... there's definitely an under-scent of cake. There's just an itty bitty whisper of mint on top. There is something else in there... herbal? I soooo can't tell! I hadn't found a review for this blend anywhere else. I do think there's a green edge to it. No floral. No resins. Probably no musk. Yes, foody. That's about as far as my nose gets. It's an enjoyable blend, though I think I prefer my cakey blends more straight up, rather than with the unidentifiable other notes. Still, this is the best Chaos Theory I've tried, by far.

    Storyville

I've had the pleasure of trying several sniffies of this, and there is a fascinating theme emerging. That is, that I suspect Beth hand blended these individually, or perhaps the oils settle differently. Anyway, there is slight but noticeable batch variation, and though most have absolutely knocked my socks off, a few were less to my taste and therefore only "very nice". The two I didn't absolutely love, one had a scent in the same family as Enraged Bunny Musk. The other had a stronger foodiness that reminded me of Gingerbread Poppet. After trying that one, it made a ginger note stand out to me in all of them, which I hadn't previously smelled specifically before having a very strong ginger variant. The ginger is the foody, buttery kind in Gingerbread Poppet, not the fresh smelling variety. I much prefer Storyville to GP, it just smells more intriguing to me. Most of the others I've sniffed have been ones I've preferred to those- a smooth, somewhat foody, rather dark vanilla/musk scent that is just gorgeous. It has a depth to it, a sexiness, and yet it's still sweet and wearable, and feels very "me". Though I will admit I've never been to New Orleans I do find it evocative of at least how I imagine it to be. Beautiful, beautiful scent, definitely high in my favorites, unfortunately. And the batch variation is a fun feature, too- while they're all quite similar, nevertheless each I've smelled has been unique, too. An individual. On me this scent has major, major throw and lasts very well. I need only apply a small amount (yay!!) and it lasts as well as any BPAL has, which is about 6 hours on my dry annoying oil-eating skin. So my wee stash of this will last well I think. Which is lucky, because it has become a staple in my BPAL "wardrobe." 5 out of 5 for most variants, 4.5 for one or two out there.

    Voodoo Queen

I found this an enjoyable but not drool-worthy blend. It smells extremely well-mixed, like it has a large amount of high quality well balanced notes. However it just isn't grabbing me viscerally, and making me swoon. It smells dark, like it has some good musk in it, also sweet. I can't single out any notes unfortunately. It doesn't last an enormous length of time on me. It's definitely smokey, and sexy. It is a nice blend, its just that there's others quite like it. I noticed Gypsy Queen shares a distinct resemblance particularly. It's not identical but an excellent substitute, same feeling of smokey, incensy, sexiness. Compared side by side, Gypsy is a bit more floral, while Voodoo is smokier. Wow, they're similar on me though. That makes sense since they're intended to evoke similar ideas. 4.5 out of 5. Edited to add: I realized I rated this rather lower than I should have- I like it quite a bit, despite it not being my One True BPAL Love.

    Flower Moon 2005

Daffodil, with some daffodil on top. I really don't care for daffodil notes (also very prominent in Beltane '05). I just can't get past my dislike of that scent. The other notes seem nice but I can't cope with the overkill-o-daffodil. I know someone who would adore this though- not sure how she'd react to BPAL, being a 60something co-worker, but she is always talking about how much she loves them, and when we had a bouquet on the desk (annoying me with it's scent) she told me she would love to find a daffodil perfume someday. How about tomorrow, Louise? Hopefully she'll appreciate it more than I can. 2 out of 5.

    Fruit Moon

Well spank my butt and call me a doofus. I clean wrote off Fruit Moon with no skin test. Bad Girl No BPAL! I feared fruit for a while, due to a few bad experiences with some fruit notes. But, as I have been learning, all fruit is not created equal. Fee is orgasmic, and it was the one which converted me. Yemaya continued to lubricate the slippery slope. So it inspired me to re-examine the Fruit Moon imp languishing beneath the Looney imp hoarde in my drawer of impage. Oh. My. GOD. It is sooo good. I'm such a dweeb for not skin testing it! It's perfect. It is only a hair less enjoyable to me than Fee. The lunar oil base is perfect... the melon-ness of it all is beautiful... the guava beneath sings. I just am in love. Sadly hard to find! Will try though. 5 out of 5. Delish.

    Kingsport

Mmm. This is one of the best-balanced aquatics. It's not over ozoned, like Cthulu was on me. It has a hint of saltiness, and some cool floral in there too I think. Very nice. Need a bottle, I think! For me, 4.5 out of 5.

    Beth's Experimental Blends

When someone listed a horrifically tempting bottle of Storyville on eBay, the only way I could restrain myself from bidding was to make a deal with myself. I could bid $50 on one other hard to find thing, and thus ignore Storyville. I got myself a lovely Snake Oil variant, labeled Experimental Blend #1 on the cap by the previous owner. Basic brown lab bottle with reducer cap, no label. It smells amazing. Divine. Gorgeous. Like the best Snake Oil ever. It's even smoother than aged SN. It lacks that... edge that SN has. It's deeper and more divine. I still smell the basic notes though- vanilla, spices... it's just better somehow. Deeper, less shrill. Though I do love the basic formula, this happens to be better. It's like it mated with Snake Charmer and the result is better than both. No plummy notes like Charmer. Oh yeah. Will definitely cherish this bottle. Glad I got it rather than wasting too much on Storyville, frankly.

    Milk & Honey

This smells much sharper than I imagined. Very herbal, with a very pointy lemon note. Not very honey like but sweet, yes. It smells OK, but not something I love to smell like. Haven't tried it in any way except sniffing yet, I admit.
  17. LittleGreyKitten

    Queen of the Nile

Yeah, OK. This smells so darn good I'm totally tempted to ignore that it's supposed to be for something (that I don't need it for!) It does have a Snake Oil type thing going on, for sure. It's spicy, exotic, and yet sweet and incensy. I like it quite a bit. I did wear it for a while and didn't notice any particular reactions to this. Very nice fragrance, it smells the best of all the TALs I got.

    Charisma

I like that Charisma has specific instructions, and that they're pretty straightforward, not esoteric at all. I did try it as suggested, a drop on all chakras. I didn't use much as I didn't love the scent in a "I want to smell like this" way, which is fine, as it's not for that really. Though I should note it didn't smell in any way *bad*, just more... herbal? Anyway, I actually thought I got major good service everywhere I went- the highschool kid who's usually comatose or snotty at the deli actually brought my food-to-go to me, which he never does. And when we went out to dinner I thought our waitress was going to pet me, I swear. And so on. I definitely got way more attention from strangers than usual. Interesting. Plus, I was exhausted and not exactly being particularly outgoing (I'm like a huge introvert, and it takes a *lot* of energy for me to chat people up... I've learned to do it, but when I'm tired it's one of the first things I have a hard time with.) OK, rambly review but there you have it. I'll have to try it when I'm feeling more lively, too.

    Enraged Bunny Musk

This is lots less powdery than I feared it would be. It is a delicate sweet scent, very fresh and there's a note that is mostly lemony (what IS it in this that says "lemon"? I know it's not actually lemon... it's just something that my nose interprets as lemon, if that makes sense!) There's a soft, soothing scent to it. I notice that on me, it gets stronger dry. Then it fades in about 3 hours. Which isn't too bad for a soft scent like this one. I like Underpants better but I'm definitely enjoying the bunny. It'll definitely be one I won't worry about wearing to work. The bunny, for all it's rage, is pretty soothing. I'd give it a 4 out of 5.

    Monster Bait: Underpants

Holy wow, Underpants rocks. I am so, so glad I bought 3. I would have bought more if I hadn't been a wee bit worried about the sandalwood/saffron thing, but in actuality they are mmmm, so good. Three should be enough even a douser like me! The sandalwood is a light, sexy one which smells great on me, and the sugar coating it is fantastic... sweet, but not cloying. There's actually a lightness to this blend that really is lovely. Yet it has depth too. It's one heck of a unique smell, and I'm sure it will be a huge favorite of mine. I do get the Antique Lace references. Antique Lace is lovely but I sometimes get baby powder out of it. Underpants is deeper, less powdery, and fairly different on my skin- they're more similar in the bottle. (Which makes me think maybe I should put AL in a scent locket.) 5 out of 5, it's damn good. And I love the picture on the bottle! ETA: It's not my imagination that this throws pretty darn far on me. I didn't slather, and I've gotten two compliments on it so far (!!) both from people separated from me by a counter about 3 feet deep. So yeah. Strong! But in a good way. One said my perfume smelled "restful".

    Sathariel

Sathariel is tough to describe for me. It's quite well blended like most of the Qliphoths, and not knowing the notes makes it difficult sometimes to know exactly what you're smelling. This is sweet, a little resiny, and a bit spicy. I am not in love with it, I'm sort of neutral on it truthfully. It doesn't smell incredibly unique. It isn't offensive either. Basically it's a decent blend but one that doesn't reach out and grab you as amazing either. I'd call it a 3.5 out of 5 scentwise.
  22. LittleGreyKitten

    A'arab Zaraq

Very nice. It is spicy, warm, inviting. I think it's quite sexy. On me it isn't masculine at all. It's sweet and resiny. My only gripe that it's not incredibly unique- there are other GC scents that are quite similar. However this is definitely a nice scent. As strictly a perfume, I'd call this a 4 out of 5.
  23. LittleGreyKitten

    Golachab

Ooohh. Another Qliphoth I'm loving quite a bit. This is a deep, sexy scent on me. Warm, spicy, yet sweet. It is reminiscent of something else... but what?! Drawing a blank. Will update if it comes to me. But this is definitely a sexy/spicy scent, and a very nice one at that. May need a bottle of this eventually. Mmmm. Yes. This is one that bloomed on skin, incidentally- I didn't love it initially, in the imp. As strictly a perfume, I'd call this a 4.5 out of 5, possibly a 5.
  24. LittleGreyKitten

    Ghagiel

Hmm. This one is so well blended I'm totally not sure what I'm smelling. Floral, yes. Not as deep as some. I have all the Qliphoths on right now, smeared up to my elbows with each patch labeled. How silly is that? Anyway, the Ghagiel patch is about 15 minutes into drydown, and it's actually a pretty faint scent at this point. I am just getting "bright floral" out of it, and that's about it. Not very complex, at least at this stage- but well blended, definitely. For wearability, I'd call it a 3.5 out of 5.
  25. LittleGreyKitten

    Gamaliel

Something sharp pokes out of this. Lemon? Lemongrass? Not a soft lemon anyway. Beneath there is a hint of dust, and some sort of depth. A musk? A sandalwood? Something, anyway, supporting the sweet and sharp top notes. All together not my favorite Qliphoth. The pointyness is offputting to me and something pleases me not. I can't put my finger exactly on what. Anyway, I'll call this a 3 out of 5 for wearability.
