    Priala, the Human Phoenix (2006)

I'MINLOVEWITHPRIALA. It's been a while since a scent hit me so hard as soon as I open the bottle that I have that "MUST REVIEW MUST REVIEW MUST REVIEW!!!" feeling. Priala hit me just like that today. Lots of spicy cinnamon in this, and it seems to come out more the longer the scent's on my skin. It's not Red Hots or burning "my skin's on fire!" hot -- it's just pleasantly spicy. There's a bit of sweetness to it, a lot of smokiness, and a helluva lot of sexiness. This is a dark, sultry, sexy, evocative, KMD&FM-kinda scent. I'm in love.

What do bottles and labels look like?

The mods probably received the bottles from the Lab since they work so hard here, and GypsyRoseRed sniffed them at Will-Call right after they were released. I can't wait to see the labels, too! C'mon, Carousel, ship away! I love looking through this thread and the photo gallery for labels. So pretty. *pets the pretty*

What do bottles and labels look like?

Browneyes, the Carousel blends were just released Jan 31st/Feb 1st. No one's received them yet -- shipping is in late January, but not quite to the Carousel update. Hopefully we'll see them ship out soon, and then maybe someone will be kind enough to take some pics for us!

    What's in a blog?

I understand. I'm an only child -- no siblings to be close to. My cousins are much older than I am and two states away. There's only so much stuff I feel comfortable talking to my mom about. I didn't have any close friends in high school, and I've lost touch with pretty much all the people I called "friend" back then, anyway. My college friends knew me best, but since graduation, we're all strung out across the state. After a triangle drama over one guy and two of the girls and a whole bunch of BS lies spinning around, not many of us are still calling each other "friend" anymore, anyway. I have two people in town I can call if I need to talk, but the person who probably knows me best and whom I feel most comfortable discussing personal matters with is a girl I've met only once in the nearly ten years we've been friends online. We keep in touch mainly by email. I'm used to typing out my thoughts, concerns, freak-outs, etc, to her. It carries over naturally into blogs. I just have so much trouble finding the spoken words to express this stuff on the rare occasion I actually do call up a friend to talk. It's easier to type it out.

Rose Recommendations - which blend is for me?

I'm definitely seconding Harlot -- absolutely gorgeous spicy roses. It's one of my favorites.

Nag Champa scent in a BPAL blend?

My husband thinks Spellbound is spot-on for nag champa.

    Snow-Flakes

If this is similar to Snow White, then I'm glad I never tried Snow White. Snow-Flakes is a cool, creamy white scent. There's a soft mint to it, and something creamy that makes me think of coconut -- like the coconut in Black Pearl, although it's been a while since I smelled that one, so my memory could be way off base. Since I'm not crazy about mint or coconut, this doesn't work at all for me. My decant is definitely going into the swap pile.

    Halôa

Wow. I definitely get the Beaver Moon reference straight out of the bottle. It's amazing, almost identical to BM, the only difference being that this is slightly softer. I loved it. And then I put Halôa on. For the first few seconds, it stays similar to Beaver Moon. Then something resiny -- I guess the myyrh? frankincense? -- comes out, and goodbye, sweetness. I can almost smell the wine grapes at this point, but only when I sniff for them. It's still nice for about an hour, but I much preferred the initial sugary sweetness. After about an hour, this turns to powder on my skin. The initial throw is pretty strong, but as the scent morphed on me, the throw lessened quite a bit. I can now only smell it if I press my wrist to my nose.

    Thirteen (13): October 2006

10/13/2006 formulation: From the bottle, hints of cocoa, whiffs of orange rind, and lots of sandalwood. Upon initial application, it all blends together so well that I can't pick out any individual notes. I do agree with SultryWolf's remark about the "cologne"-like aroma; it fades after about 15 minutes, and the florals come into play. I'm no good at identifying any of the individual floral notes, but they are there, playing openly with the sandalwood which had made a grand reappearance. I'm so glad I don't get overwhelmed with tea! So far it's got pretty good throw, and I'll update to say how the scent progresses and how long it lasts. ETA 20 minutes later: Something (the vanilla, I think) is peeking out to sweeten this up a bit more. The more I think about it, the more I think the "cologne"-like aroma may have come from the rooibos tea, maybe a combination of that with the sandalwood. (Sandalwood is still the dominant note in this for me.) I get hints of the rooibos tea every now and then, but when I try to breathe deeper and verify, it disappears again...which is odd because normally tea is one of those notes that jumps out and yells, "LOOK AT ME!!!!!!!!" as soon as it hits my skin. Whatever it is, right now the vanilla's making the scent sweeter, which is making me like it even more. ETA 1 hour + later: By now, the florals have disappeared, and the scent is a bit faint. Vanilla has taken over as the dominant note, but the sandalwood is still noticeable. I think the cocoa is making a reappearance, too, but it's very faint.

    Quincey Morris

Soft, sweet tobacco with just a hint of smooth, supple leather. So gorgeous, and on my husband, so drop-dead KMD&FM sexy. The vanilla and pear work perfectly to sweeten the scent, but not so much that it's girly. He likes it, too, especially when he gets a whiff of the cedar. I could never smell it on him, but he says every now and then he'd smell it. Quincey Morris is the absolute perfect scent to help me get him to wear smell-good stuff!

    Peach, Peach Blossom, Apricot, Nectarines

Butterscotch, it's under Excolo, in "THE GRATIÆ" section, near the bottom of the page. Hope that helps!

    Mme. Moriarty, Misfortune Teller (2006)

GORGEOUS! This is dark, creamy, earthy, with the perfect amount of sweetness to keep me happy. The earthy patchouli isn't sugared like in Snake Oil, but the vanilla, plum, and pomegranate all blend together beautifully to sweeten it up just the same. The red musk gives it a smooth, dry finish. My only problem is deciding how many more bottles of it I need. ETA: As this ages, it smells more and more like tobacco to my untrained nose. It's still an absolute winner in my book and definitely one of my all-time favorites.

    Creepy

Dark, creamy, rich, gooey caramel. As I put it on, the apples pop out, but they're still covered in caramel. And then...the coconut rum. I don't think I like coconut rum. Creepy is fantastic on me until the coconut rum shows up because for some reason, it knocks out the apple and turns sour, ruining the rest of the fabulous gooey scent. It's very strong, though, and lasted through three washings.

    Pumpkin Queen

I was terrified of the red ginger in this, but how could I resist Egypstian amber, cardamon, and pumpkin? I kept swearing that I smelled apples in here -- is that the fig? The bright appley note mingles beautifully with the mandarin and just a hint of pumpkin. For once, ginger doesn't overpower everything! I can barely even smell it -- in fact, on me, there's barely any spice at all. The amber gives this scent a silky smooth feel and dusts gold the red color that springs to mind whenever I sniff it. I'm not sure if I really need a full bottle of this, but I'm definitely keeping my imp.

    Punkie Night

Uh oh...I keep getting the same crayon wax smell from this as I did from Lampades. I don't think cranberries like me. Punkie Night is overall mostly apples. I don't get any spice from the cider out of it. It's just sweet, soft apples darkened by crayons. I want to love this, but I can't ignore the crayon smell on me.

    All Souls

Softly sugared incense. It's lovely in the imp. There's definitely a slight foody note behind the incense from the "offertory soul cakes." Within seconds of this oil hitting my skin, however, it goes to powder and stays that way for hours. I'll try it again in a few days, and if it's any different I'll update here, but for now I'd have to say that All Souls 2006 does not want me to love it.

    Kindly Moon

HOW I WISH I HAD HAD THIS FOR THE WEDDING! Seriously, it's gorgeous. It's definitely floral, which I usually don't like, but "other" keeps popping up to my nose to make it much more attractive to me. At times it reminds me of cucumber melon, at times it reminds me of pears, at times it reminds me of something soft and sweet and white and unearthly. Just one drop on my wrist was enough to scent my entire office for well over an hour. It's so not at all me, yet I love it and will keep it forever.
  18. *peeks in* Just wanted to say that out of ivyandpeony's list, I've tried very few of those scents (6 to be precise), and only one of them is still in my possession (or at least still in my "MINE" box and not the "Get thee out of my sight!" box). I like my Seraphim. But Snake Charmer, Bastet, Rose Cross, Nefertiti, and Gypsy Queen just didn't completely agree with my skin for one reason or another.

    Euphrosyne

FLORAL ALERT, FLORAL ALERT! But yay, it's not a generic-fake-flowery-gas-station-bathroom-soap floral on me! Ahem, anyway. I'm not very familiar with gardenia or jasmine as individual notes, but I'm assuming one or both of them is what gives this the hint of spice that I get upon initial application. The oil is a very, very heavy floral, but it is beautifully blended. The tea rose peeks out every now and then enough to let me identify it, and the florals mix so well with the vanilla, which shows up sometime after drydown. After a few hours the florals have apparently disappeared and left me with a very soft, slightly powdery vanilla scent. Strangely enough, I like this, but...it's just not my style.

    Harvest Moon 2006

Very fruity at first -- there's definitely apples in here, but I'm pretty sure I can pick out the pomegranate as well. After the oil finishes drying, however, it becomes more herbal. I can still kind of smell the fruits, but that may be wishful thinking. I'm not crazy about herbal scents. After an hour or so, it turns very powdery on my skin, which isn't much better. The throw isn't very strong, and it doesn't seem to last much longer once it goes powdery. Harvest Moon '06 makes me sad. I wish the fruit stayed on me.

    Gypsy Queen

A heavy-lidded perfume, the quintessence of beauty and power shrouded in mystery, swathed in a deep, velvet-clad cloak of dark omens: Romany incense and candle smoke mingling with an alluring, body-warmed whiff of bergamot, neroli, Bulgar rose, carnation, and amber musk. I don't know if the decant I have is from the original or the resurrected, but either way it's lovely. Very soft. Something sweet plays hide-and-seek with me; every few minutes I catch the barest whiff of it, but when I try to concentrate on it, it disappears behind a light veil of smoke. Beautiful. My only regret is that is doesn't last long on me.

    Obatala

Very light, very creamy, very subtle. The main note I pick out is the coconut meat; it reminds me of vanilla, but I can tell the differenc. It has light throw, not strong enough to fill my entire office, but just enough for my fiance to smell when he comes in to give me a kiss. I can see why so many people like this and find it to be the perfect comfort scent. I'm just not sure if it's my perfect comfort scent.

    Sleepytime BPAL

I don't know if it works for anyone else, but I almost always wear Sybaris to sleep. It's very soothing to me, and I uaully have no trouble falling asleep when I wear it.

Bridal BPAL - BPAL for weddings?

morleigh_s, you're getting married on my fiance's birthday, which is exactly one week after our wedding. Yippee! And, err, I'm not really sure what to suggest for you -- will have to think about it for a while -- but I'll be wearing either Regan or Brisingamen. Probably Brisingamen.

    Yemaya

Melon, sweet, juicy melon! If I imagine really hard, I smell the grapes, too. I don't get any aquatics (other than the juiciness of the melon), florals, or mosses. It's just sweeeeeeeeeeet melon. Unfortunately, it doesn't last long on me, and melon's not really my ideal scent, anyway. Yemaya is lovely, just not for me.
