    Searching for the Perfect Vanilla?

Black Opal has become my perfect vanilla. It reminds me a lot of Antique Lace and it is GC.

    The Last Unicorn

I had really, really high hopes for The Last Unicorn and it does not dissapoint! In the imp: I smell lilac, lettuce, and coconut. On my skin: The coconut and white chocolate are the strongest at first, with the lettuce not too far behind. As it dries I am getting these wafts of serene heaven! The lilac and everything in the blend just combine so well that I cannot pinpoint one specific thing, like other reviewers have noticed. It starts off sweeter(although not too foody sweet, which I love, don't get me wrong, but this isn't that)and then shifts slightly into a more floral blend. This does not once turn sour, soapy, sharp,or plastic. It is perfect and I love it. Plus, it has AMAZING throw! The fact that I applied it several hours ago and it exists in a cloud around me still is rare and amazing. If only every lovely blend would last this long(I'm looking at you Black Opal!) I love smelling like a Unicorn!

The First of the Three Spirits

Just got this in the mail today, so this may need time to settle but here I go! In the bottle: There is a marvelous vanilla, fruity-flowery(like flowering fruit!) scent in the bottle. It smells so good I want to just sniff it all day long. I am very much reminded of a something by this scent that I can't quite put my finger on. Wet on skin: Very faint and light, getting more amber(but not powdery amber, which is usually what happens with amber on my skin) and some murky floral notes. I only say murky because they are not bright and heady, perhaps a little past their prime, but def. not decaying. I get no vanilla when it is on my skin. Dry on skin: There is a lot of throw on this scent and I keep catching whiffs of stately amber-y musk. I am not getting any vanilla on my skin, which is sad because that is what I wanted most from this blend. This is very beautiful and has a elegant feel to it but I am not sure it is quite me. I am at a bad time of the month to be testing so I will re-test once my chemistry is back to normal. I have a feeling this will blossom into what I want it to be with age. Update: This is starting to give me a major headache. Oh dear.
  4. I ordered Beaver Moon 2010 and a bottle of First of the Three Spirits also and was wondering if it is backordered or something. I placed my order on 10/27 and have seen CnS's for orders placed a bit after that.

    Beaver Moon 2010

MMMM...Beaver Moon, more like Delicious Moon! In the bottle this smells uber peachy, with a little fruity strawberry mixed in. Wet on skin: Very peach! I am getting a canned peach in heavy syrup vibe with a hint of strawberry and if I sniff too closely I get a plasticy scent. Dry on skin: MMMMMM! The peach has mingled with the strawberry to create a creamy bonanza of goodness. I am getting whiffs of cheesecake(in a subtle vanilla way, not as obvious as previous Beaver Moon incarnations)and a crust-type note as well. As others have mentioned I think this will age really well! My only complaint is that the two little beavers from the full artwork are cut off. They are sooo cute too!

    Twinkle, Twinkle Little Bat

This is such a fun blend! This is very much a melon scent, but a nice crisp one(not nauseating as some of them can be to my nose). Once on my skin the strong melon becomes a melon/citrus with a splash of lemon and lime. It is indeed a bright and jolly scent, good for any season in my opinion. I am not getting any grape, thankfully, since that is not a good note on me. It lasted about 2 to 3 hours on me, but while it was on the throw was pretty good and I had no problem carrying my imp around for delicious smelling touch-ups! A winner!

    Liz

Oh Liz I wanted to love you! Apparently I amp leather, like truly amp it to the point of ridiculousness and I am blaming this fact on why Liz was not meant to be. In the bottle there is a wonderful smoky vanilla with a spicy floral kick and some leather rounding it out. On my skin I get a very strong leather note, like a damp suede bag in the rain and very little else at first. After about 2 hours I can smell the spicy florals picking up and a smokiness that is quite beautiful mixed with a teensy bit of vanilla, but unfortunately the leather is still a bit too overwhelming. As someone mentioned in another topic this shares some qualities with Givenchy Hot Couture, which has the same spicy, smoky floral vibe, but with a fruity twist instead of a leather one(on me anyway). If Liz could just leave her leather handbag at home for the day I think we would be a match made in heaven. It's quite an interesting and gorgeous scent, just not for me. edited for spelling nonsense

    Pumpkin Latte

At first I get a HUGE blast of espresso! When the coffee tones down I get a very spicy, nutty scent that emerges. There is a long period of time where I smell like a very nutmeg-y coffee drink. It isn't until an hour of wear that I start to pick up on the sweet and subtle vanilla-tinged milk and sugar. I haven't truly smelled the pumpkin yet, but I think with age the sweetness of this will come out and maybe balance out the coffee. I like this, it isn't as sweet and sugary as I was hoping, but it is very fall appropriate and I have already worn it 3 times this week, so I think it is a keeper! Cute bottle art also!

    October

October 2010 In the bottle: Smells very similar to A Blade of Grass, lots of fresh cut grass and leaves. Wet on skin: Again conjuring up memories of A Blade of Grass but with a lot more complexity. It smells like dry leaves blowing in the wind on a fall night, with a full moon (maybe it doesn't smell like a full moon, but it could!). Dry on skin:There is a slight smokiness that comes and the leaves smell quite dry and scattered along a trail in the woods. This is not masculine to me, although it is pretty gender neutral, but it has a dark quality that I can't quite put my finger on. Really beautiful, not sure how often this will get used, but it is really nice and the bottle art is really cute!

    Punkie Night

In the bottle: Tart berries and crisp apples. Wet: I am getting sour cranberry and crisp apples, this has a very fall, almost candle-ish smell, without smelling like a candle at all, it just has that fall feel to it. Dry: More subdued sour cranberry with a little spice coming out and fresh picked apples, yum! This one is very nice and makes a wonderful companion for my Lambs Wool as scents I will reach for when the weather gets a bit chilly!

    Polynesian Pop

In the imp: Orange juice and fizzy ginger ale. Wet on skin: Heavy on the orange juice with a splash of ginger ale. Dry: Very boozy, there is that rum and this now smells like a really sickly-sweet schnapps, oh no! After a bit: Like orange juice concentrate and very faint.

    TKO

TKO is amazing! In the bottle I get a sharp lavender smell(powerful in the same way tea tree oil is when you sniff it closely, which I love the smell of!)and maybe a hair of sweetness in the background, but mostly lavender. Wet on my skin it smells very strongly of lavender! Sharp and pungent(in a good way, as I LOVE this stage)and it is starting to make me sleepy! Once it dries it becomes a lavender/vanilla combination reminiscent of a mashmallow(others have noticed this too and it is true!), but not really that sweet or foody, it still has an herbal tinge and is quite beautiful! It helps me sleep when nothing else does and as others have mentioned also it leaves my pillow/sheets smelling like brownies, almost like Lump of Coal in the morning! I think this is my favorite scent and I have already blown through almost 1/4 bottle in a few weeks, which sheer madness for me! edited for past/present tense errors!

    Givenchy Hot Couture smell-alikes?

Emily, This isn't coming from my experience as I have yet to try LIZ, but.......I was looking through the message boards a couple of weeks ago(don't remember which thread, possibly LIZ reviews?) and I found someone comparing LIZ(from the Hellboy series) to Hot Couture. I used to love Hot Couture myself and was excited that there was a mention of similarity, now I am all about getting some Liz. I don't know who said it, or where I saw it, but there you go.

    Tiki Princess

In the bottle: Fruity and tropical, with some light pine notes, and creamy coconut. Wet: Very, very pine-y! Dark, but still slightly fruity, no real coconut to speak of. Dry: Just like in the bottle, equal parts coconut, tropical fruitiness, and light island breeziness(not sure what makes it smells like that, but it's very lovely). Not any pine at this point. Lovely, reminds me of a tropical island and also of a Brady Bunch episode set in Hawaii, something nostalgic about this scent, but that's just me! I love it!

    Persephone v6

Got a tester of this as a frimp. Wet: Sweet rose, almost too sweet, there is a powdery fruitiness that is coming out as well. Dry: Still rose, strong, but not sharp, a powdery rose with an extremely heavy fruit note. Smells almost like guava, but mixed with other unidentifiable(to me) fruits.

    Ü Mütter Museum

What? This is doing the Licwiglunga Jolly Ranger-thing on me. Like hard, slightly musky candies. Very sweet. What am I amping? Raptor Moon did this wet on me too...hmm..I can smell a teensy whiff of balsam, but it's overwhelmed by the odd sweetness.

Finding BPAL blends similar to Dior perfumes....

This one is a little tricky to acquire, but I found that The Girl(Halloweenie, Literary Vampire), smells very similar to Dior's Hypnotic Poison(I've never smelled Midnight, but I approximate it might be in the same family as this). Vasilissa in the GC(under the Marchen section, I believe) has a different combination of scents to it, but a similar feel as well(to me).

    Fledgling Raptor Moon

Not quite what I was expecting, but we'll see how this is when it settles in a bit. Wet: smells a lot like Licwiglunga to me, almost fruity, but just for a split second. Dry: Dark woods, with a lot of clove seeping in through the cracks in the wood. I'm not getting any vanilla here, but maybe that will come out in time. Definitely wearable, but I'm not in love like I thought. If the vanilla would peek his creamy head into the mix it would smooth things out beautifully. This is a spicy blend, but definitely not shrill(thankfully). Beautiful, but I don't think it's for me.

    Haloes

Ahhh....so gorgeous. Wet: Very strong amber and fuzzy vanilla. Strong and almost overpowering. On: This morphs into something truly divine. First it goes through a strong wood-tinged vanilla period, tripping into a strong amber and almost over-the-top heady blend, and then, then, the magic begins my friends! The vanilla dries into the beautiful vanilla apricot creaminess that is pure bliss(the feeling, not the oil!). I want to live in my wrist forever. What was I thinking swapping away my bottles, I live near a retail outlet, but still...

    Drink Me

I was interested in trying this out and received a frimp and got my chance. In the bottle it smells very foody, lush and decadent, I got an almost amaretto feel, with some baked goods thrown in. So lovely smelling, truly. On skin: I get a hint of berries and then I get a lot of pineapple, then things take a weird turn and all I can smell is roast turkey, maybe with a hint of some side dishes, maybe some sweet pineapple cake, but the turkey is most certainly the main course here for me! Verdict: I had to wash it off as I don't want to smell like roasted turkey, I have a feeling this one would be beautiful on someone else, depending on their skin chemistry(i.e. doesn't amp roasted meat!).

    Monster Bait: Underpants

My first review! In the bottle(or decant ,as the case was here): Sweet, sophisticated vanilla with a strong scent of saffron coming through. Wet: Very, very sweet. Getting perhaps the butter rum element more in this stage than in others. There is a strong vanilla, very creamy and a little overwhelming. Dry: I really start to get hints of the sandalwood and it is adding a nice aspect to this. Almost like the vanilla and saffron went into a sauna filled with sandalwood steam. This is a gorgous blend. I keep sniffing my wrist continuosly thorugh the day and from a distance I get a sweeter vanilla, and a deeper, drier vanilla up close. Strong saffron prescence and it gets better the longer it is on.
