This is definitely in the same snow family to my nose as Skadi (the more recent one, I wasn't around for for the first iteration), Woods in Winter, etc., without any berries or other notes to muddy up the snow scent. Sadly sugared anything and I do not jive, I get a very chemical-y sweet note in with the cold Lab snow smell, and that's the end of that.
-
So I just got my latest lab order, and I have to say, Full Moon from this year's Lupers is a perfect spring scent.
-
This is gorgeous and very well blended--I can pick out the notes but nothing's clobbered its way to the foreground. The clove is doing wonders for me in toning down the sandalwood's sweetness, and the whole thing blends into a spicy, not-quite-incensy haze. I think this is still a little strong for me, but the scent itself is just beautiful.
-
In the bottle I get the moss and cypress very clearly, and there's a snowy, minty clean undertone, the overall effect is sharp and cold, very slightly sweet to my nose. Unfortunately, this is a total skin chemistry fail on me, something takes it straight to stale cologne territory.

Intrigue is a bit of a strange beach scent, it's more the exotic shaded hut a little ways back from the surf (Black palm, with cocoa, fig and shadowy wooded notes) My favorite coconut scent is the LE Goldenrod Crab Spider (White mint, coconut, Indonesian champaca flower, lime rind, white ginger, and green tea.) I don't know how this year's stacks up, but the original Season of Ghosts was a very beachy scent to me, it reminded me of vacations in Florida, a fruity citrusy sunscreen-ish scent, but not coconut (bergamot, frankincense, rose geranium, ginger, lemongrass, and blood orange). eta: Pele and Havana (discontinued, sadly) are hot, humid, tropical scents to me also

Ah, skin chemistry. I don't get oranges or spice at all...I get apple shampoo. It's not an unpleasant scent, but not what I expected. Throw is pretty strong on me, and the scent stays true as it dries.
-
This is definitely the life cycle of a Christmas tree. Wet, it's very sharp and almost menthol-y, then as it dries it morphs into true Christmas tree, and then it picks up the woody/sawdust smell. The throw is very low on me, which I like since I'm around very scent-sitive people most of the time. The only downside is that when I huff my arm, there's a faint sweet perfumey afterscent, so I might try a scent locket and see if it's a skin chemistry thing. I probably don't need more than my decant of this, but it's quite a fun scent experience.

This is stunningly beautiful. Part of the wildflower mix that sticks out to me is a mum/marigold kind of thing, maybe from the leaves. The closest comparison I can make to La Calavera Catrina from the Weenies a few years ago. Catch Me is like Catrina's little sister, the same floral heart but a little softer (I get a tiny bit of powder), innocent and playful.

I straight up adore this. On first application I get a nice herby lavender, but it fades pretty quickly blends in with the rest of the notes. I do get the soapy impression that a couple of other reviews mentioned, but it's the best kind of soapy--this is tumbling out of the bath into freshly washed sheets, clean and inviting and just a little sweet. I got the TKO atmo to try in the same order as this, and I have to say, as a bedtime scent for me, Once Upon a Time wins hands down.

I had to get a bottle of this unsniffed and was hoping for a more unisex/masculine leaning variant of BB. I've worn this several times the last few days and not so much with the similarity...on me this is close to a patch single note, but it's much smoother and softer than either of the SNs, and almost has a cedar-y vibe, a bit like Aureus to my nose. Hippie also stays much closer to the skin than some other patch blends I've tried, so I can have my comforting not-quite-dirty hippie scent at work with no problems. HOWEVER, it is the first perfume where I've noticed a distinct shift during shark week (pardon the TMI), and the first few minutes after application, I get wafts of skunky weed. It burns off after a bit and I'm left with my nice soft patch skin scent, but sheesh. Even though I live in CO, that's not really gonna fly at the office.
-
I'm another one who's not tried the TKO oil, but in hopes of finding something to help me pass out at night, I snagged a bottle of the atmo. When first sprayed, I get a hint of vanilla, and then the lavender wanders in. It's very distinct, but not sharp or astringent; it's more like smelling dried lavender flowers than lavender e.o. I guess. The vanilla-ish note doesn't stay distinct, but the sweetness blends with the lavender into something soft and mellow, and to my nose, it almost has a licorice-y vibe, or something like the super strong violet candies my grandmother loved from Germany. I haven't had a chance to test it out as a sleep aid, but a squirt in my office was certainly lovely and calming, and I enjoy the scent regardless.

In early stages, this is glorious. It starts out as straight up fresh apple, like just-cut-an-apple-in-half apple, which is an experience I've never gotten from a perfume before. The apple sticks around a reasonable amount of time, softened and sweetened by the other notes. The apple doesn't stick around super long, but the base certainly does.....twelve hours later I still gets wafts when I move my arm, but what's left is strangely reminiscent of the Wild Musk perfume I had in high school. It's not at all a bad scent, just not remotely what I would have expected.

Ladies and gents, if you're comfortable receiving clothing, what size(s)? Any particular types of clothing (skirts, oversized t-shirts for crafting, work clothing)? How do you feel about shoes that were bought, worn once, and never brought out of the closet again? To answer the question myself, I'm perfectly happy with gently used clothing mostly I wear ladies' L/XL or something in the vicinity of a 14. Knee-length or longer skirts, dresses, business-casual tops, nerdy t-shirts. Shoes I'd be fine with in principle but my feet are impossible to fit. I'm also happy to take in hippie/bohemian/folkloric/why-the-heck-do-i-have-this type of stuff that I can disamantle and remake into tribal belly dance costume pieces. vinyl toys: I'm not opposed if something fits into my interests, but not something I'd actively search out. makeup: swatched/tested is fine. I wear mostly loose pigment shadows, warm browns, purples, tawny neutrals, and saturated colors are best, I don't really wear anything matte. Nailpolish I like, but I do have a ton. Not picky about brand, but I don't care for glitter polish because it's impossible to take off, and I'm generally not a pink person. books i wouldn't care for: political intrigue, horror/gratuitous violence, sappy romance, and jane austen-esque books won't get much love around here crafts: cotton remnants that could be used for quilting, decorative trims or bits of funky fabric for costumes, wood blanks for woodburning...I'm an avid crocheter, but I really should not say send yarn, I need to evict some. kitchen stuff: I had a flat-edged bamboo spatula that was my most-used cooking utensil until it broke, haven't been able to find a replacement. Otherwise I think I'm mostly set. hair and other accessories: I have something approaching neck-length hair that I'm trying to grow out, so bobby pins, barettes, and headscarves are welcome. I can't wear headbands at all, don't have the right head shape. Other accessories like handwarmers, shawls, scarves, especially handmade stuff--if you knit/crochet and want to make something out of your stash to send, I'm all for it. Kids Stuff I do not haz small humans International/regional stuff: Absolutely. I would extend this to even virtual tourist kind of things--items with a place emblazoned on them, tourist brochures, whatever. handbags: I almost never carry a purse, so handbags as a category are not that useful, but I do use tote bags and backpacks for things video game type stuff: computer, original nintendo, super nintendo, playstation, PS2. mostly I play rpg type games and puzzle types of games. If you get me and this question becomes relevant, I can cobble together a wishlist of games I missed. Perfumes other that BPAL: I don't object to other perfume companies, but I wouldn't be able to name names of things I'd want--if it fits with my note preferences (or at least lack of death notes), I'm all for trying it. Pets: 1 bullyhound mix who loves toys and treats, One psychotic macaw. Strangely, the macaw adores corks, like out of wine bottles, to demolish, so if you have a bunch of those laying around... Bath Stuff nothing with sulfates, but otherwise sure! scrubs, bath oils, bath soaks....I like to pretend I fit in my tub once in a while. Yarn sure...I have a ton, but I'm trying to destash, so we can play revolving yarn door here. Not picky about fiber or weight, I can use anything CDs/DVDs sure! prefer no horror as far as movies go, and I don't listen to much jazz, rap, or country, but I'll give anything a listen once. =) If you are interested in receiving homemade baked goods: Anything is fair game, I think. The beloved has a great fondness for chewy cookies. If you are interested in receiving clothing, would you like any belts, sweatpants, or slippers? And do you have color/style preferences? Belts, sure. Probably something around ladies' XL in size, or those woven types where you can make a belt hole anywhere. I do prefer plainer styles, or at least not a huge buckle, sweatpants and slippers I'm proabbly set, but if you have a pair of L/XL cotton/knit pj bottoms to offload, I could use those. If you are interested in receiving books, would you like to receive ebooks? I think my hand-me-down tablet can work as an ereader, so sure. Any format is fine. do you have any use for a potpourri container, a bright purple reusable water bottle, or a Massage Envy gift card? Probably not any of the above Hey, how do people feel about stripes? Say, black and white stripes? stripes are cool collections: interesting rocks (darn geology class), shells, shark teeth, that kind of thing, pottery, damaged Windstone Editions figurines (I restore them), garden seeds, jewelry in particular inexpensive hippie/bohemian/etc. kind of stuff, dangly earrings, necklace/collars, bracelets, stuff that I can wear for dance.

I was gifted a bottle of this in a circular swap, and I will first say that orange blossom is historically godawful on me (generally on my skin it turns to corn chips) but every other note here I love, so I really wanted to try it anyway. This is the first butterfly I can wear, and the first orange blossom scent that hasn't gone funky on me. It's a miracle! First applied it is all orange blossom all the time, it's fantastic, and has a ton of throw in that stage. After the drydown, it's soft, sweet, and fuzzy smelling as the tonka and sandalwood come out, with some lingering orange blossom, and it stays much closer to the skin. I'll have to edit this later when I have some idea of wear length, but I love this scent!

The scent and the name definitely do not jive in this case. In the imp, this is sweet, orange-leaning citrus. On my skin, the orange fades very quickly, leaving me with fruit-tinged bubblegum. I actually love this because I can't wear candy/sugar scents, so now I have something to reach for when I feel like that kind of playful scent. There's a bit of similarity with Tweedledum to my nose, so I guess fig equates to bubblegum for me. My only complaint is that it lasts about an hour tops.

The Butterfly from The Last Unicorn (Fuzzy brown tonka bean, golden amber, bergamot, and petitgrain) is lovely if you don't mind bergamot. The overall impression to me is bright and uplifting, a soft, fuzzy citrusy scent.

Trying to find the right winter scent for me
skyelyric replied to childdoll's topic in Recommendations
Last year's Skadi I think is lovely, cold and piney with just a hint of sweetness on me. Woods in Winter also, but that might be more woods and less snow than you'd like. -
Tombstone is really pretty (and a little rootbeer-y), Embalming Fluid is a very light, clean smell (if you've ever smelled Elizabeth Arden's Green Tea it's very similar), Kumiho is light and clean as well. Aglaea is a beautiful peach smell, Delirium (rose, apple, and lemon) is nice, too. For age appropriate resins and woods, I might recommend The Lion, Tweedledum (there's almost something bubblegumlike about this to me, I love it), or maybe Intrigue if you don't mind a hint of coconut smell.

In the imp, I get some of the chilled root cellar vibe that Ashmedai mentioned, soft, chilly, slightly damp, and woody, with just a little undertone of violet from the orris. It's quite lovely. First applied to my skin, however, I get some heavy duty chilled violets as the orris amps up to front and center. It's a very pretty, complex violet, but it's not at all subtle...hopefully the drydown softens into more of that woodiness that the imp had. Well, the scent did soften, but the orris stayed very much the dominant note, and if I put my nose to my arm and sniff there's a faint plasticky undertone. Sadly, this is not a winner for me.

Blacker than the Raven Wings of Midnight
skyelyric replied to Jennifurious's topic in Limited Editions
My first thought opening the decant was 'Good lord, I want to drink this!' There's almost a fruity quality, or the rich syrupy feel that O has, even though the scent itself isn't at all similar. It's really impossible for me to pick out distinct notes in this, it just smells a little incensy and very opulent. I generally amp patch (and love it) so the fact that I can't pick it out is a little disconcerting. The drydown is mostly soft, woody incense, not a whole lot of throw on me, and not a ton of staying power. It's a very pretty scent while it's there, but not something I need to track down a bottle of. -
This was one of those things I had to get against my better judgement, because lemon verbena can go painfully harsh on me, and lavender, while I love it, is also pretty sharp. Amazingly, they kind of cancel each other out here. This is a very bright, clean lavender and citrus scent--I had to look up elemi, which, from the descriptions I found, is probably adding to the citrus vibe. The overall feel of Light and Swift is sunny and clean, and it seems to last a reasonable time without being overpowering, and without morphing much. Very pleasant surprise.

In the imp and wet, this is a beauitful woody, green herbal scent, like that sharp weedy smell of crushed plant stems, but underlaid with a hint of powdery amber sweetness. I love amber, but I've never come across an amber scent that smells like this, it's fascinating in its greenness. As it dries, the sharp herbal scent fades back, and the amber takes center stage. I catch some faint wafts of neroli rounding this out, but overall it's a beautiful sweet amber (my skin chemistry does a little bit of a powder trick with amber, but I actually like it) with a hint of woodsy cologne underlying. I'd say Bright Flame falls just on the masculine side of unisex. In the less detailed and more poetic reaction category, this is remarkably comforting. The impression I get is snuggling on the couch late at night with my boyfriend's arm around me.

Unlike earlier reviewers, I got very, very little in the way of white tea, and not much in the way of distinct wax. This was almost single note LILAC, but as Ashmedai said, it's like fresh on the shrub lilac. On, it doesn't morph much on me, but in later stages I get faint wafts of a creamy, waxy scent that's not present if I huff my skin. I actually love when the air and skin components of a scent are different, so that's a plus for me. Also need to try this one around the beloved, since lilacs are one of his favorite flowers. I don't know if I'll want to hunt down a bottle since I don't wear florals very often, but I will enjoy the hell out of this decant, and probably try blending it with some other scents as well.

I was really hoping for a more refined, subtle version of Delirium from this, with the rose and lemon. Sadly, this was not to be with my skin chemistry. The florals and the aquatic notes combine to turn into very elegantly scented dryer sheets. I get almost nothing of the lemon, and while it's not a bad smell, it's one I would much rather have on my laundry than my skin.

I was recently gifted a decant of this, so here's a slightly aged review. This is one of the biggest morphers I've tried, for sure. In the imp and wet this is a very green scent, a little herbal-medicinal, a little citrus, a little whisper of floral and sandalwood just to weirden it up...It's not aquatic, but something about the wet stage of this one makes me think of waterlogged ground and trodden weeds. It's not a bad smell, just very odd, and it doesn't last long at all on me. The halfway stage turns into a beautiful floral, reminiscent of flowering orange groves, I'm guessing mimosa plays nice with my skin chemistry, but once again, it doesn't last. The final drydown settles into a soft, incensy sandalwood, like the smell that lingers in your hair after you've wandered around an import shop for a while. I don't know if I'll try to track down more, but I will definitely enjoy my decant for something a little quirky.
