    Gardenia & Labdanum

this is a really interesting combination. the gardenia is lush and gorgeous. the labdanum is resiny and goes a bit sharp at first. later on the notes become fairly equally balanced, but gardenia wafts off the skin the most. i really like this one, as i was almost certain i would.

    Cherophobia

this starts with a sweetness from the honey with some ginger. it smells like some type of food but i dunno what. then i get the carnation. my skin seems to eat this up-i can barely detect it. it's a softly spiced, softly sweet scent. it's not bad but not great on me either-something goes bit plasticky here. a shame, as i love all these notes and am always seeking interesting carnation scents.

    Vigil for the Harvest Suitors

at first, i get mostly lilac and the beeswax is subtler (i recently tested second sight which has lilac and honey, and the lilac is stronger in this perfume than second sight.) the broom adds a coolness and amps up the lilac, i think as this is most prominently lilac. i do get more beeswax later but the lilac remains strong. later on it changes, i guess the bone and broomcorn are becoming stronger here- and it's hard to describe what it smells like but it's sort of herbal and green but there is a weirdness to it, at least on my skin. i enjoyed this more in the beginning when it was primarily lilac. the bone/broom does something strange on my skin.

    Balancing the Sake Cup

this starts with orange blossom/neroli and candied ginger. it's a thicker orange blossom note, not so light and springlike as it often is. i really like this one a lot -it's a spicy, smoky orange blossom on me. this is a unique take on orange blossom and i love it.

    Signum Crucis

this smells more like roses than rosehip, which i thought was more herbal (?) but maybe i'm wrong. i get a slightly watery rose with greenery along with ambrette at first. it brings to mind rain on fresh flowers. the scent gets more and more earthy and bitter-this must be the mushroom note. however, in the past the mushroom note smelled different on me-more soft and almost musky. then the leather comes through last, tempering the sourness of the earthy notes. however, this is still overwhelmingly rosy on me. it's like a watery, clean rose, very springlike.

    Kimi Ga Dai Wa

how odd, it doesn't smell like i expected it would. i get the woodiness of the sandalwood, something mildly animalic and a hint of something sweet and kind of fruity? almost like orange candy. is this my skin chemistry being wacky, or what? it gets a bit less sweet, but that note is there. i guess it's maybe 'sweet amber' but doesn't smell like amber at all to me. after maybe 30 minutes+ i get a sense of something ambery and a hint of soft leather. the sweeter note stays the strongest as it dries down. this is a really pretty and interesting perfume.

    The Grey Columns

this is a very soft amber with a slight sweetness that smells kind of like vanilla, as some people mentioned. i get a hint of smokiness but it's very subtle. this is so soft-it seems like a perfect bedtime comfort scent. it definitely smells grey to me.

    Beeswax, Amber & Star Jasmine

wow this is beautiful! i get a creamy jasmine and honey at first. this is a beautiful, heady, tropical floral. i don't get a strong sense of amber, but i think it's there in the background rounding things out and subduing the jasmine just a bit. beautiful and...now i need to find a bottle.

    Horses

wow, this one is warm and pretty-i get a lot of honey with amber backing it up. the 'fire' is a very slight smokiness in the background. this perfume glows warmth through coldness. after a bit longer on the skin, the 'fire' turns subtly spicy, and i feel like a sense a very subtle anise note as well. the honey in here verges on the beeswax note for me, but it's also a kind of creamy honey. i have many BPALs with this exact note and i love it. i will definitely keep my decant but am unsure i need a bigger bottle because i have so many honey scents.

    Leaden Fog

i get a whiff of black smoke (not an incense smoke) and cinders over a cool almost aquatic note-i guess this is a more 'carroty' orris than powdery one. later the smoke dies down and i get more sandalwood-at this point it's a cool orris with sandalwood and a bit of smoke. this is a really interesting perfume, and is not my usual type of scent, though it's a mix of things i tend to like separately/with other notes.

    The Air and the Ether

at first, i get lavender, somewhat dryer-sheety, with a hint of amber. so a fresh lavender, less herbal. the ambergris seems to grow more over time. this is pretty but a little too 'fresh' for my personal liking, though it is very pretty, and i think a winner if you like lavender.

    Second Sight 2021

i think i was most excited by this one as far as yules go. i love lilac and honey. this one is very pretty. at first the lilac and beeswax are fairly balanced, with the beeswax a bit stronger i think. i love this combination, as i figured i would. the champaca seems very light in this, but gets stronger over time, and the agarwood is nearly nonexistent. in the end, this is primarily a lilac-beeswax on my skin and the other notes are much subtler.

    Violet Fog

this one starts with champaca, lavender and a green violet that is not the least bit powdery, then i get a ton of sandalwood. i get a dry powderiness later from the orris root. the violets are so green they go slightly sour on my skin at some point. the perfume then dries down to a sandalwood-orris with hints of green violet. it is soft, pretty and dry with a vintage feel.

    Drow Yoga Instructor

plum and fresh dryer sheets...is that the 'indigo' mixed with lavender? i dunno, lavender doesn't usually go dryer-sheety on me, but maybe occasionally, if memory serves. i also get something like a yellow floral here. it's fresh and fruity. later i get a lot more incense which improves the scent quite a bit. dries down to a plummy incense- it's very nice in winter.

    Innocent Souls Turned Carrion Birds

i get mostly sandalwood and musk with something almost softly spicy, but i think it's the sandalwood. i get the coca cola thing that bpal's labdanum note does. i always forget that it's unique in that way, till i try a perfume with it again. dries down to a soft woody musk. very pretty but i am wishing there were more top notes, guess.

    A Skull, A Music Book, A Snuffed-Out Candle

this sounded really interesting, but not sure which way it would go on me. at the beginning i get a lot of the tulips, which is like a non-descript wildflower note, i think. it's bright and kind of grassy, then it gets more soapy and green. a bit later i get a hint of beeswax after a few minutes. the beeswax gets stronger over time and balances out the floral notes. there may be a tiny hint of sandalwood, but i get no leather at all.

Chibi Skull With Last Will and Testament

at first i get mallow and patchouli, quickly followed by the bourbon vanilla and cream mousse, which is a bit buttery. later on the patchouli gets kind of sharp and the cream gets a bit toasted, neither of which i enjoy. i was hoping for a cozy marshmallow scent but my skin seems to be projecting the other notes more. it dries down to a buttery creamy patchouli. it's ok but too intensely gourmand for me...i like my gourmands to be a bit lighter.

    Pumpkin Pie Musk

i got a freebie of this one. it's deeply pumpkin-spicy and foodie. not my thing but it does smell cozy. i might use it as a room scent during the months of october and november only. there seems to be a spicy-woody thing along with the pumpkin, to my nose. i think the spice is ginger and maybe cinnamon? it's very spicy.

    Lilitu

at first i get the lavender, cashmere musk, black tea and black orchid. it's a mix of herbal and sweet, but not super sweet. the tobacco leaf becomes more prominent and the scent gets sharper, then i get deeper notes that don't really smell like oud or leather, but they balance out the sharpness a bit-there is a hint of spicienss from the carnation. on me this is primarily black tea and lavender with black orchid in the back. pretty but not amazing on me. goes a bit too sharp for me.

    A Noiseless Patient Spider

this starts with lavender and ti leaf with something sort of toasted in the background. not sure what that is. then it gets a bit greener- i am getting the dew and cognac with a hint of cardamom. it's cool and floral and green primarily. later in the drydown i get the tonka which warms up the scent a lot. this perfume goes through many stages while also keeping the same characteristic mood. it's pretty and calming, and eventually dries down to a soft perfume that has a vintage feel to me.

Famous Kabuki Actors in Imagined Scenes of Lovemaking

at first i get goat's milk and honey dust (which in another perfume was nutty and toasty on me and it's the same here.) after a few more minutes i get some woods, cardamom and tobacco which seem to amp up the weird toasted note on me. overall this is just too foody and nutty for my personal tastes.

    Honey, Agarwood, Opoponax, and Leather

this one starts with mostly honey and opoponax. it's resinous with a honey that's not too sweet, thankfully. later i get some leather but it's very subtle, as is the oudh. it's primarily a resinous scent on me, then dries down to honey with hints of leather and opoponax. this one is really nice, but i feel that i already have others like it so do not need a full bottle.

    A-Rovin'

this one starts with tons of red musk and indolic jasmine. it's a hothouse flower for sure. there is sweetness from the sugar and honey as well. really pretty, the red musk dominates. this totally reminds of a BPAL from my past, but i cannot place it. later on i get hay, carnation, sandalwood and tobacco. never any leather, unfortunately. it dries down to primarily red musk with sandalwood and carnation i think. the jasmine is gone at this point. i like this one but already have so many red musk scents that i don't need to do a bottle upgrade.

    Fracas with Eleven Kabuki Actors

ooh i really like this at the beginning-it's all sweet almond, bourbon cream and a hint of toasted sandalwood. it's a really interesting mix of notes-warm and comforting and more like something i'd want to wear in the fall. the bourbon cream and sandalwood become the strongest notes for me and it leans unisex/masculine now that the sweetness of the almond faded. honestly, it smells just like this 'dupe' of tom ford's tobacco vanille that i recently got. i can't remember tobacco vanille all that clearly, but i am guessing this could be similar then (?) i really like this one. one of my favorites from this year's lupercalias so far.

    Honey, Mahogany, and Incense Smoke

at first i get a lot of honey and incense with a hint of mahogany. something in this is slightly animalic (no, not the honey), way in the back. after awhile on the skin the woods come out much more and it gets quite smoky. it's sweet, smoky and woody-it's kind of comforting and would probably be great in cold weather.
