    The Knave of Hearts

Huh! I haven't reviewed this yet. I think this is hard one to nail down, and reading reviews kinda skews my perception of it. This might be the only rose scent from the lab that I can stand, and I can tell I'm still amping it. So, yes, rose, but like rose perfume sprayed on linen. This reminds me of my grandmother's house. The currant tart definitely turns this on it's head, though. I don't get sweet bread, I don't get juicy berries. It's like someone took a red currant linzer cookie, and mashed it into a linen napkin that had been sprayed heavily with rose perfume. And I'm sure my chemistry is heavily affecting my perception of it. Turns out, this is GREAT mixed with The King of Hearts, and turned into an atmo spray. The berryness and pastry really comes out then, and feels more like raspberries, with the rose and rosewood from King, just supporting it.

    Frostbitten Knave of Hearts

Starts out with slushy snow, which is somewhat disappointing. I was hoping it would be like previous years' "Frostbitten" where it smelled more like Snow White. You can smell *something* in the background, but it's not nearly as obvious as the regular Knave of Hearts. I think the tart aspect is slowly coming through. The snow note really overpowers anything recognizable from Knave of Hearts. So, if you were expecting something similar, this doesn't deliver. If Knave of Hearts is too powerful in the rose department, this really knocks that down, and makes it more approachable. Overall, though, there's not much that stands out from the blend.

    The Poinsettia Gown

I got this for my sister, so I took a sniff. It's pretty, but I can smell the jasmine and rose, which I know is HeadacheTown for me. I wouldn't be surprised if this is the sleeper hit of the season.

    Minerally rootbeer!

Apples?? Finding the right apple scent

Oh yeah, Soupy is right! I'm a huge apple fan, I can do decants of just about anything. Based on what's currently in stock, I'd like to add: Caramel Apple Snake Oil Samhain (obviously it's mixed up with lots of other notes) Agreenex (it's weird and appley, I have it in my shop) Snow Moon (not super appley, I have it in my shop) Take a Knee (in shop)

    Whiskey & Apple

I wanted to try this since I was such a big fan of the Bourbon-Soaked Apples hairgloss. If the hairgloss is the feminine version, then the Whiskey & Apple is the masculine version. Apples in the HG are sweeter, but these apples are tarter, more green, with the whiskey leaning on some leather. This isn't boozy like how you'd expect, though. Mad Sweeney is clearly boozy, and this feels more like green apple and saddle leather?

    Snake's Tongue

In the bottle, this is overly sweet Snake Oil, with something a bit fermented. It starts to dry down, with the odd fermentation smell starting to chill. A bit of the sweet caramel becomes more recognizable. I think it's the oakwood, it's not playing nice with my skin. It just never gets beyond overly sweet SO.

    Witch Dance

Wet: goes on like wine, but quickly ends up smelling like grape soda with a bit of smokey background. It actually smells great, but it's not great for me. The smokiness ends up giving me a headache. It's pretty, but not for me.

    Beaver Moon 2019

Soft, sweet coffee. Kinda like a nice latte. I'm not getting much cheesecake or throw.

    Yuletide at Heathrow

Slushy snow with lavender taking over. I can kinda pick up the carbonated fruit soda thing, but it's hanging out in the background. I was really hoping that the fruit would be more predominant, but I am really amping the lavender.

    Thirteen (13): January 2017

The cedar pretty much overpowers everything on me, with a hint of chocolate in the background. My skin can't support all the other wonderful notes.

Dark Chocolate, Whiskey, and Cardamom-Infused Caramel

This ended up smelling like chocolate stout cake on me. This is what I wanted Chocolate Stout Cupcake from 2014 to smell like. I've made chocolate stout cake before. It's rich and dark, and the beer giving it just that hint of alcohol that tweaks it just enough to turn the sweetness into a musk. Kinda hard to explain, but imagine spilling beer on your skin, and letting it dry. Anywho, I'm happy to report the cardamom doesn't overwhelm things, nor does the whiskey. And I even got many compliments on it when we went out. Super winner!

    Single Note: Candy Bag Debris

Starts out more chocolatey with candy corn. Yep, Lemonheads and wax teeth, with a tiny hint of chocolate that disappears pretty quickly. Fun, lemony, with a hint of pillowcase. Husband picks up “gas station soap“, so your mileage may vary. Wearing this again: it's much "prettier" than just lemon candy. There's a lightness to it, maybe there's a linen or cotton note that's elevating it past sticky candy territory for me. I'm so happy someone swapped this for me.

    Dragon Doodle

I forgot what the notes are in this. Initially sniff was super sweet, super ripe peach. Then the strawberry comes out, like fresh strawberries from Eat the Strawberries. I’m sensitive to honey, and I didn’t pick up any. It’s just sweet fruit that leans towards peach.

A Deadly Terror That Had Seized Upon All

I got this based on someone else’s excitement about the orange. It’s very pretty. Orange sandalwood. It’s pretty simplistic, but yet still grownup. Only problem, it lasts about an hour on my skin. I’ll try layering it, and see what happens.

    Aeronwen

fig and myrrh is not a winning combination for me. And that’s the extent of what I pick up. Not nearly as nuanced on my skin.

    Mrs. Bunce

I usually love all the tobacco scents, but this too musky for me. Wet, it makes me think of castoreum. Yuck! A sweetness and the sandalwood eventually come out, but not enough for me to get over the musk.

    Blueberry Sufganiyot

In the bottle, not quite as pastry-heavy as Raspberry or Black Currant Suf. Fruit is definitely front and center, and a bit adolescent, like candy. I don't think it's as real fruit-like as blueberry cream pie, it's more fun and light-hearted. Pastry note really comes out stronger in blueberry cream pie, too. I'd say, if you want a sweet fruit candy, this fits the bill. It's also great for layering. Surprisingly, I layered it with Ian. LOVE!

    Frostbitten Sin

I like Sin normally, but it's always a bit much. I figured having it mixed with Snow White would make it easier to enjoy. I love Frostbitten Snake Oil, so I was hoping for something similar. The above poster is pretty spot-on! It's mostly Snow White, with a tiny bit less snow. I think this particular mashup doesn't work if you already have expectations. I can see a newbie being really digging this, though.

    Daddy by EFFY

This didn't have anything I really enjoyed. I love my fairy for getting it, though, and I love the idea behind the inspiration for this scent. I definitely agree about it being a spectrum, though. It wasn't overly masculine or feminine, but for my preferences, I felt like it leaned on the masculine side. For whatever reason, I just don't enjoy fougere or bay rum, I think. I do think it's worth getting a decant of to see what it does with your chemistry, though.

    Patchouli & Tobacco

I feel like the patchouli smokes up the tobacco more than I would expect. The tobacco isn't nearly as sweet as Pumpkin Tobacco. I think these 2 notes work pretty seamlessly together, so I can understand the previous poster's thoughts on it being single-note. I think most tobacco lovers would enjoy this because it's not complicated. I do feel like the patchouli edges this over to the masculine side a bit, but I think it's unisex enough for anyone to pull off. When it dries down, the tobacco sweetens up a bit, but the patchouli very much hangs out at the back. This still makes me really happy, though.

    Elegant Vulvas

In the bottle, I definitely pick up the lotus blossom. It's pretty, but it unfortunately reminds me too much of my mother-in-law, so off to sales it goes.

Looking for a BPAL that Resembles a Favorite Perfume

Search this topic. It's been discussed previously. The consensus: there's still not an exact dupe in the BPAL catalogue.

    Scent Boom

Not too cacophonous. Sweet fruit with a slight floral edge from the tuberose. It's very bright and fun, but not too child-like. It didn't last very long on me, though. Maybe 4 hours.

    Pumpkin Spice Silkybat Hair Gloss

I honestly didn't know what to expect since I've never smelled the original Silkybat. But this is very much sweet patchouli and autumn spices. It kinda smells like caramel. It has a great gourmand feel to it, while still having that sexy, visceral patchouli going on.
